American President Bush is about to give a speech on sending more troops to Iraq...

Thoughts?

I'm gonna go watch it now so I'll check out your responces later.

Well I suppose he has to do something about the problem. The conflict will just get worse if they can't control the country, so I suppose they think the best way to control the violence is to send in more troops.

Wake me when the war's over.

I'm with this guy. I think the war is a complete waste of time and resources.

Isn't every war the same?

Whoooooooooo cares at this point. Iraqi's don't want to cooperate, they don't want our help, so leave their [wagon] sit. We've wasted way too much money there.

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

I really don't see how People can look down at these countries and say that they are doing bad when we are doing pretty bad ourselves, before going out to help people who don't want helped, maybe we should actually show that we are compitant enough to fix our own problems first.

And wasn't there talk about taking troups out of Iraq earlier on? Why the hell is that idiot sending more people to war, when everyone has been telling him to take them all back?

Apparently i heard on the news he wants to send 25 thousand more troops. To do what, most people cant seem to say.

People dont realize it, but this is basically colonialism. The idea is "Let us help you", and later on the USA can just get the stuff they need and leave the place to rot. It is basically a repeat of south Africa.

Oh yay! Another South Africa! [sarcasm]

We don't need more troops over there at this point. I didn't see this because I was a bit busy, but did he give a reason as to why he wants more troops over there?

Basically it is because he thinks that if we don't, Iraq will spin out of control and create a safe-haven for terrorists.

Now, I was against the war from the start and have never supported it. But that is besides the point now. If we are going to focus on the future, we need to not dwell in the past. Basically I think we need to hand over control to the Iraqi forces, not the American troops. Sending in more troops will only increase the Iraqi dependence on the Americans. If we were to do a complete withdrawl it would, like Bush says, have potential to be disastorus.

But keep in mind that continuing to let Americans die in a war that should never have happened is also disastorous. I think redeploying troops is a risk worth taking. If we continue what we are doing, we will only keep on losing lives. If we pull out, two options could happen: Iraq stabalizes itself, or Iraq becomes anarchy. Though, of course, anarchy is not going to stay forever, and eventually some form of leadership will come through, and I think we can deal with any threats that come from that, because I highly doubt they will be on a nuclear scale.

The thing that really got me with Bush's speech was that he had ordered to send a naval force in to 'intercept' any possible millitary troops from Iran or Syria. This is really sending the wrong message, and is just asking for trouble. I think Iran can be perfectly reasoned with, though Bush seems to try to corrupt us American minds to think he is a 'hitler-like' leader. Kinda like he tries to imply Iraq attacked us on 9/11.

...wow, sorry, I just get carried away on political rants

I could go on for a ton more, but I will have mercy on you guys.

So its ok to go into a country & mess it up and then when the going gets tough just run away and let it fall into anarchy? To me that sounds a little like how the west became hated in the middle east to begin with. In my opinion if you make a mess you have to be prepared to clean it up yourself. Otherwise Iraqi civilians' blood will be on the hands of America if they run away and let this situation get out of control.

Just remember that the last time USA decided to cut and run from Iraq it led to Saddam brutally killing many more of his people who the USA encouraged to rise against Saddam.

The problem in Iraq to me has parallells with the one in Ireland. You have to rival religious groups who for so long have hated each and who are both incapable of reaching common ground.

The problem is that when Saddam lost power, the USA looked to Iraqs religious leaders as the solution to all of their problems. However, these leaders who had basically no power under Saddams Iraqi Nationalistic regime were now vital to USA but had no real experience in the political world. Of course outside agitation has only helped fuel the long running tensions.

So basically the USA has to stay in for the long haul untill an effective Iraqi government is in place which can somehow clamp down on the extremists and some how create atleast the illusion that there can be a single united Iraq.

I remember Bush saying that America will NOT send in more troops because it would undermine the idea that the Iraqis are taking the security of their country into their own hands. But now he's doing exactly the opposite.. :?

I really wish we never even started this war. It's so useless and costly.

I think he'll make a fool of himself

When does he ever not? :P

There needs to be serious political resolutions made in Iraq, as well as security forces ongoing support. If the U.S. troops leave before the government is stable, the whole country will likely descend furthur into civil war.

So I guess you guys don't have any faith in our nations leader. May as well just leave the U.S.

Thats kind of narrow minded... Just because they dont like the leader dosent mean they dont like the country. I know of many people who don't like our Prime Minister - John Howard but they would never leave the country because of it.

And im not sure if I know correctly, but he apparently HAS ADMITTED that some of the things that went wrong in Iraq is his fault.

Yet, even if he admits them, hes still labled an idiot if he continues them, which Bush is doing here.

I'd have to agree with you there. I think he was going to cut down troop numbers, now he's having this 'surge'.
