It stands for hard drive.

Hard drive is HD, hard disc drive is HDD. I think it's more likely he made an error and you went to acronymfinder.com, considering I've never heard of one in my 5 years of being taught computer science, 3 at degree level. And that a search on google yields results pertaining to tape drives and DVDs.

A64 3700+

1GB GeIL DDR400

Sparkle 8800GTX

ASROCK Dual SATA2 motherboard

OCZ GXS 700W PSU

820GB storage over 5 physical discs

2x 21" trinitron monitors

XP Pro SP2

Wow, are you not bottlenecking like mad on that GPU?

Anyways, I'm not even going to bother posting my present one...It's solidly low-end. But I've been saving for like 6 months to buy one, and I'm getting it sometime in February. Should look something like this:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400

nVidia 8800GTS (of what make, depends on what's cheapest)

2Gig DDR2 800 (wanted Corsair, probably going to go with Mushkin though (cheaper))

Asus P5b Motherboard (or maybe a 650i, not sure)

OCZ Gamexstream 600w

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250gb SATA harddrive

Xfi-xtrememusic sound card

Antec Sonata II case

19 inch CRT monitor (extremely hard to find these days <.< )

Maybe need to take that as a hint (btw, 17 inch LCD would be more screen, and a lot easier on the eyes... none of the new LCD's have ghosting issues like the old ones :))... and the E6600 is a great choice for price/speed, might want to take the into consideration... I love mine. Its the only processor I've ever had that can actually keep up with how fast I move around the screen, its awesome.

LCD's...ehhhh, I can only imagine getting repeatadly annoyed by dead/stuck pixels. Even one and I'd be staring at it all the time. And plus, an LCD screen wouldn't be safe. Screens that aren't as durable, or atleast stuck pixels can get caused by tapping the glass, something my family does repeatedly.

$1300

I won't be buying Alienware again. It runs well and it nice for traveling but the HDDR is kind of small and it overheats pretty easily while gaming (unless fan is well exposed to air and clean). Next time I buy a laptop I'm going to get a decent one from BestBuy with a bigger HDDR. I don't do much gaming anymore so I almost feel like I wasted quite a bit of money back in March when I bought it..

Yeah, that's expensive considering mine was about 1200 CAD with about twice the specs of that :\

Windows xp media center edition, which I hear is kinda similar to vista.

Heheh, no. It is XP with a couple of things tacked on.

that'll be vista then ^^

i think media centre is pretty good, if only for the new paint job and the whole TV tuner/recorder stuff

XP MCE is NOT Vista. MCE is XP Pro with media software running on top. It's nothing you couldn't already do with free software or other payed for out of the box stuff. It was just built for the people that have no clue what they're doing with a media center.

Cruiser, that sounds like an awesome deal!!

Exactly why I bought it. It was Walmart's "Black friday" laptop. Dirt cheap, brand new and they had it out 2 weeks before the start of the holiday shopping rush here in the states (yay). Had to stand in line for about half an hour at 12:00 in the morning but it was worth it for the price.

There will be 1024 installed, but for some reason or other the machine isn't reporting all of it. On board video is an example where that happens.

Both of my towers report something like 1020 RAM while both have 2 512 sticks installed. No real idea why they do because onboard video is non-existent but it's never really been enough of an issue to go researching.
