China Downs sattelite.

Basicly China just blew up a sattelite with a missile. Those more educated among us know of the space race between the U.S.A and the old Soviet union, and some people think that there could be a "space arms race". personally I dont think this will happen. What are your views? :-k

What type of sattelite? And i heard about this a few days ago :o

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

Why did they shoot a weather missile?

Why did they shoot a weather missile?

They didn't. They shot a weather sattelite with a missile to test it. It's pretty obvious why... when war comes they blow up the enemy's sattelites, it's not rocket science. hahaha

yeh, apparently the U.S has lots of spy sattelites in the ocean near China.

And no offence rocketman, but the pun was pathetic =;

Hehe :P .

It might have actually been over a week ago that this happened, because it seems like forever. Anyhow it was long enough ago for me to pretty much completely forget the details.

More recent news in the "space race" (which I believe is still going on, just not quite as important anymore) is India successful mission with a reusable spacecraft. India and China are the two most populated countries in the world. They are pretty far behind in the race, but any step forward is bad for the rest of the world. They can easily become the superpowers of the future.

Americans can hardly boo hoo about it while out rightly saying how they intend to weaponise space and are actively developing satellite killing missiles themselves.

Yeah, we are definitely going in the wrong direction. We should be more worried about setting up space stations, and maybe a moon base. I'd like to see a moon base before I die, I think it would be possible before then.

I hate the thought of the human race taking war beyond Earth itself. We've already fudged up this planet... we don't have to do the same for space. <.< My personal opinion, and no amount of discussion or debate is going to change it.

:? weird, but the idea of this big explosion in the sky and a hunk of metal falling down to the ocean kinda is... funny.

I could just imagine the first space wars, big dorky looking ship firing randomly, both sides screwing up. Everyone complains about lag then leaves... Wait, am i talking about a game or real life

While space debris may be a problem, it falling down to earth probably wouldn't be. It should mostly disintegrate by the time it gets the the ground.

Ops, weather sattelite. Why a weather sattelite? Was it like out of principle or was this onlyposing as a weather sattelite?

How'd we fudge up this planet exactly?

Apparently during the cold war there was a massive worry about the USA or USSR building satellites in the sky where they could rain down missiles whenever they choosed. Sadly no one apart from the scientists (who needed their projects funding) realised that the logistics and physics behind this would render it nearly impossible.

China's launch is nothing to worry about.

Nothing too big of a deal, USA and and the Soviet Union did it in the 80's, so it's not like they 1up'd us or anything.
oh yeah, because its not like we had anything to fear back then, the thread of a nuclear strike was all just a joke :) :x

I ponder why it's "nothing to worry about" to you? If a country shoots a missile and downs a satellite, it obviously isn't to solve world hunger.

Wasn't pathetic. He's the rocketman so he knows all of the good puns when it comes to rockets.

Anyway, what was the real reason for it? Were they sending some kind of message or was it some scientific reason? I read all of this and couldn't get a clear reason why.
