September 11, 200718 yr Excuse the double post, but allow me to tell the story of Ray Putterill, Liverpool Reserve. Source: The Liverpool Way In recent seasons, goal celebrations have become more and more colourful. Some player's take off their shirt, whilst others don masks that they have had hidden in their socks. On Tuesday night 18 year old Liverpool winger Ray Putterill converted a penalty in a reserve game against Middlesbrough, and then stunned the crowd, the opposition and his own team-mates by planting a big smacker on the lips of Boro full back Tony McMahon. Boro's defenders were furious at the decision to award a penalty for an unintentional handball against Johnathon Grounds, and McMahon in particular was especially riled up. As Putterill walked up to place the ball on the spot, McMahon followed him and was clearly giving it some verbals (see picture). The referee eventually had to step in and give McMahon a talking to. TLW can reveal that McMahon was actually making comments about Putterill's mum, trying to put the young scouser off his kick. He rolled the ball into the bottom corner before shrugging off the attempted congratulations of his team-mates and went straight up to McMahon, grabbed him by the back of the head, planted a kiss on his lips and said "give that to your mother from me". The Boro player was stunned and clearly didn't know what to do. His expression was priceless. And that's why Scousers have the best sense of humour :P This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
September 12, 200718 yr There is a god and he is a Scotsman! September 12, 200718 yr 3-0 much better performance than the Israel game especially in the first half, surely Barry did enough now to establish his place, and Owen silence all his critics. A friend to all is a friend to none.
September 12, 200718 yr Can't believe people still manage to doubt Owen. Anyone else wonder how bloody long this qualifying lark has gone on for now, or is it just me? This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
September 12, 200718 yr There is a god and he is a Scotsman! Scotland 1 - France 0 AGAIN :D and his son is Craig Gordon. A friend to all is a friend to none.
September 12, 200718 yr Is Domenech still in charge of France? How the smeg did he keep that job? He's proven to be completely imcompetent as a coach, moreso dare I say than McClaren, in making decisions, tactical nous and motivation. Don't bring up the World Cup as that was Zidane's team. Give me the job, I'd pick the Arsenal team and I'd have you qualification guaranteed. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
September 12, 200718 yr There is a god and he is a Scotsman! Scotland 1 - France 0 AGAIN :D and his son is Craig Gordon. That might very well be true. I don't care that we had to defend for 89.5 minutes, we won again. I honestly did not believe this is possible. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
September 12, 200718 yr To be fair, Barry isn't the same standard. Yes, he did well today, but we were playing Israel. That's Israel, folks.I hope you stand corrected :P If Lampard is in next match I will really cry. Also well, ermm, [mutter]I hope Hesky stays in the team[/mutter] Looked a bit shakey at the back at times but the clean sheet will boost confidence. Well done to Scotland, I can't believe they pulled that off. I never thaught McLeish could do as much with that team as Walter Smith but he has proven me wrong. And did anyone hear about some bloke smacking Fergie in his bollocks? Legend :D
September 12, 200718 yr And did anyone hear about some bloke smacking Fergie in his bollocks? Legend :D I heard it was his leg  he was at a train station http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6991198.stm A friend to all is a friend to none.
September 12, 200718 yr To be fair, Barry isn't the same standard. Yes, he did well today, but we were playing Israel. That's Israel, folks.I hope you stand corrected :P Russia at home playing 4-5-1 in the first half? Don't think I need to be retracting just yet. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Lamplard or Michael "He's a great passer of the ball" Carrick are of that standard. Far from it, actually. Hargreaves, on the other hand, is a world-class operator in the holding role, having done it for years at one of Europe's premier clubs in Germany, who have a great history of that kind of player. The only thing that Barry's performances have done, albeit a major thing, is dispel the theory for the need of a holding midfielder. For some reason, a holding midfielder seems to equal balance for McClaren, but it's not that simple. Neither Gerrard or Barry played the holding role in the last 2 games, and tonight, when they actually had to defend unlike the Israel encounter, the balance came from the understanding of positioning. The only need for a holding midfielder is to counter overlapping runs of both full backs. Think of Brazil, Argentina, Spain etc. With Cashley Cole showing as much form in the last 18 months as a 3 legged horse on Grand National Day, there's little chance of that happening. Not that he'd ever get fed the ball from the man in front of him, Mr Joe "Shoot on Sight" Cole. No wonder they call him the Marine. It aint for his crew-cut! This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

Give me the job, I'd pick the Arsenal team and I'd have you qualification guaranteed. Aye, it was Zizou, Thuram, and Makelele that saved France from the humiliation of not even qualifying for the World Cup. Ugh. Domenech doesn't have as much media scrutiny and English hate-mail as McClaren, that's why :-P. I heard Donadoni is in something of the same situation too.
September 13, 200718 yr LOL at scotland, france got pwned :-# England should qualify now , we have found ourselves a good quality starting team, and owen is back on form Arsenal to win prem and champions league O:) I r a Good Pixeler?90/99 Woodcutting73/99 Theiving

It aint for his crew-cut!But Barry didn't put a foot wrong in either of the games, and Russia did pressure him, especially in the second half. Perhaps it is just me, but I'm really wary of any Man U players playing for England. Bar Ferdinand, no Man Utd player has put in a good performance for England since Scholes and Rooney (who wasnt even at Man U at the time) ran the show at euro 2004 and it just seems to me that they are under pressure from that miserable Scot not to exert themselves for their country for fear of injury for the team that pays their wages. I suppose we are yet to see Hargreaves in an England shirt since he moved to Manchester but it wouldn't surprise me if his England form plummited, just as Rooney's did. As for the holding midfield role, I completely agree although Richards does like to get foreward but SWP is a solid tackler who can cover for him. And Joe Cole, while his is a selfish player, I still believe he is a vital part of the England team, especially looking at the alternatives on the left.
September 15, 200718 yr Arsenal do seem to have the habit of coming back down against Spurs. I'm really pleased with this result - Fabregas is on fire! And we're at the top of the table (for now) :-D.

September 18, 200718 yr chelsea only managed 24,973 attendance for there match against Rosenborg, very poor showing. I imagine that Liverpool would take close to 40,000 for an equivalent game, Man U full at 70,000+ as usual and Arse pushing 50,000+. www.PETAkillsanimals.com
September 18, 200718 yr Liverpool, as shown by the last 3 seasons ticket records, on average could seel 65,000+ tickets for a European night. That includes rip roaring games such as Total Network Solutions, Grazer AK, Maccabai Haifa, CSKA - all qualifying rounds as well. Hence, the new stadium. Hence, the best fan base in the world. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
September 19, 200718 yr Chelsea and Liverpool both draw 1-1... hoping Arsenal does better tomorrow
September 19, 200718 yr AC Milan needs to win again, their match was really good. Also I like the fact Real Madrid is playing, very attractive football.
