DuckyTheSwan
Ok... Basically on the rants forum, I ranted about how younger players (you could tell their age by their behaviour) started being [delevopmentally delayed] and ragging on me, basically because I was 12 combat levels lower than them, even though I had pretty much twice their total levels... I work with children (so I get sick of idiots quickly) and I don't feel that I should have to train with my public chat off just to avoid them, when all of my runescape friends were made by talking while training. My proposal is that for membership, Jagex needs to be sent a form of id to check how old you are, and we are able to set our chat to either "all" for anyone, or just over-18s could set their public chat to "adult"... your private chat wouldn't be changed at all. I'm just sick of younger players being [wagon] online just because they're anonymous... I'm not being ageist here, you find me an over-18 being a total noob just because they're higher level and I might change my opinion that it's the younger players causing all of the problems. I'm not saying that all players under 18 are a problem, just that the problem is comprised of a bad bunch of under-18s, and I want to avoid them. I know the implementation of the id idea would be a problem, but that the filtering would not be. Thoughts? Ideas? Here's the badly-written rant, written at a time of anger haha  [hide=]what really annoys me is when higher-level players, like 95+, rag on high-mid level players... like i'm finishing off a green dragon slayer task from vannaka (which takes ages because green dragons are overpopular) and i've got 6 out of the 53 left to kill... i've been there ten minutes on my own, not harming anyone, when two high level players (one was 91 and the other was 95) showed themselves as children... their conversation went something like this: idiot1: her you let a noob in our spot idiot2: no i didn't idiot2: hey level 79 noob, go away idiot1: noob idiot1: why don't you world hop... go now me: huh? i was here first... and quit talking to adults, children idiot1: this is our spot idiot2: i'm 12 levels above you me: and i bet my total level's twice yours *i check high scores quickly and find out that i'm almost right* idiot2: i bet you only have 500k in your bank idiot2: noob idiot1: we're better than you noob *they then start to talk about stupid stuff between them and i teleport out because i've finished my task* what was up with this? what's wrong with these stupid 13 year old children who get their members' accounts because their parents pay, and rag on those who are better than them overall... and that's not even starting to talk about real life... i've met one nice high level player (101) who said sorry for taking my kills but that wasn't her intention, she needed limpwurt roots, and was it ok if we shared (hill giants, i was there for the drops too) and i was gobsmacked! a high level player who was being considerate? i spoke to her for a while and later came to the conclusion that she was an adult like me.. or she couldn't have been so nice. i work with kids... can't we have an age filter on runescape whereby i don't have to hear [developmentally delayed] cr*pwits under the age of 18? i'd never quit runescape because of the kids there, but this was created as a game for adults, and there should be an iq test... if you pass, you get the chatbox, if you fail, you get quickchat. i think that's more than idiots deserve anyway. wow that's a long rant...[/hide]
Makoto_the_Phoenix
What do I think? No, not necessary. If we could filter out all of the "idiots" in our life, we'd never talk with anyone to begin with. Besides, that kind of testing means nothing - it's plausible to cheat, lie, and all other manners of deceiving the tester to get through. sparky1_2007
ohai, im 19, and my character is level 136, i dont act stupid like that \ but yea, i agree, i hate kids like that. but for me, it's not a problem of them doing stupid stuff like what you were saying, it's more of a problem of them seeing my high combat or my 3rd age armour and say "can i borrow your GS please" and i dont even have a godsword weilded or even own one for that matter. trust me, it gets real annoying real fast :| but that's one of the woe's of being a nice person and always leaving your private chat to ON so anyone can talk to you. retired 12-31-
Bloodrex
i myself am just 17 so i could be a 'younger player' (will be turning 18 in just a few months...) but i really agree with your point. Young children are VERY aggressive (can't remember me being that aggressive at their age... and that's just 4 years ago for me!) like yesterday, this random kid was talking about the NSDAP like they were gods. I asked him to stop because he could hurt other peoples feelings and because it's not appropriate to talk about things like that on a game... And almost immediately he started to threaten me in real life sentences (some serious anger issues if you do that on a game...) I dislike inappropriate and immature behavior a lot. And young people really should learn what respect is. Oh btw... if you avoid the server from the Netherlands and belgium, you won't get that many aggressive players... A lot of the players from the Netherlands and Belgium are very young and very aggressive. I'm perfectly fine with 13 year olds who show maturity... But the majority of those immature players really annoys me. I believe there should be a list that contains all immature players (people who talk immature not are immature, big difference here) I also meet some other players who are still young, but who realize that asking friendly helps more then aggro. Those young players are very fun to play with and they will help you/ change worlds /give you food if they have left over after a task. anyway jagex will say you have a ignore list for these people so a change will never come. ubervonlemke
A better solution would be a maturity test at character creation. This can group you into different categories, allowing people to ignore certain categories. That way, if the test works, you don't get immature players from any age. Deaners1212
It seems like sending in identification just to talk to who you want to would be more work than it's worth. Muting a player is much easier. I actually enjoying noobs yelling their heads off at you for stealing "their" rock when mining. Back to P2p soon! hihihi727
I agree about the green dragons thingy, happens all the time in experiment cave but that doesn't mean they are young, i bet over 90% of Runescape is under 20 and if you have a problem with young people than you might as well turn off public chat altogether. plus Jagex has already made it so people under 13 can only talk in quickchat. DuckyTheSwan
[hide=] ...plus Jagex has already made it so people under 13 can only talk in quickchat.[/hide] no, jagex makes sure that the ones who tell the TRUTH about being under 13 can only talk in quickchat. [hide=]A better solution would be a maturity test at character creation. This can group you into different categories, allowing people to ignore certain categories. That way, if the test works, you don't get immature players from any age.[/hide] this to me is the perfect idea :D ... now how to implement it... maybe there's a new reportable offence, but only if the player is in their first month of playing would it count towards anything? for example "immature behaviour" and if the player in their first month is indeed being [developmentally delayed] then they would be put in the category that other players could mute. ubervonlemke
Of course it would count, I don't get how 1 month of time will make any real impact on maturity. But not really an offence, just more so be shifted into the immature category and they can be filtered as well. Of course, if the people wish to take the test they should be able to. People can change over time, I remember (sadly : p) when I was 13.

Juhnie
Being able to filter out certain people just based on their physical age sounds like discrimination to me. You can not say "99% of children in video games are total wagons" just because you met a few who were total wagons at you. If a person starts to annoy you, just ignore them. : Foolproof way to get rid of those annoying people who for some reason want to prop their ego by throwing insults at you. Bauke
Jagex will not ever ask you to prove your age and take consequences based on that. It's totally useless, discriminating and very bad for a company that is trying to gain money. Filtering out a whole age group is just totally nuts. If individual players annoy you, there's a solution: use the ignore button. Guess I'll make a thread in the forum updates section about being able to filter out [developmentally delayed]ed threads. Now that would be a feature. Twitter ||| Google+ ||| Facebook ||| LinkedIn ||| My very interesting weblog about science

To begin with, I find it ironic that, based on your own metric, you'd be the first to be filtered. Moving on... 1) It's not that disliking immature behavior makes you immature, it's trying to split the population based on perceived notions of maturity that makes you immature. 2) You can't deal with teenagers mouthing off? Hey, that's what they do, alright? You should've known that when you got into that kind of work anyway. Perhaps you're not cut out for helping kids/young adults. Lastly, this is a MMOG. There are going to be people that are younger than you, or act in a different manner than you believe to be 'mature'. If you don't want to deal with it, go out and buy yourself a freaking DS.
