dsavi
Thought I'd write a bit about MechScape for those who haven't heard of it before. Not everyone does, actually. Basically, MechScape is another game, possibly coming out in around a year, made by Jagex. From what (we think) we know it is probably a more futuristic game, will use the same gaming engine as RuneScape (And therefore will have similar graphical quality and the same computer requirements) and will be, like RuneScape, a browser-based Java MMORPG. Also, the RuneScape user accounts will be shared with MechScape, like FunOrb. This is a lot bigger than FunOrb, maybe you gathered that already by the way that the Administrators of TIF created a forum for it. As you can see we don't know very much about it, if you have something to add just post. :)
Amundogus2
Well, we know a TON more than this ;) And MechScape will have graphics "one or two steps beyond RS HD". "There are only two strategies in war. Move forward or change. The victor is the first to realise that when he cannot move forward he must change." ~ Mod Mark H ~
dsavi
So if we know a "TON" more than this, then why don't you help out and post it? ;)
Amundogus2
So if we know a "TON" more than this, then why don't you help out and post it? ;) I already posted one bit of information, that the graphics will be better than RS. For a collection of all MS information, there is a rapport written on [] which includes all the things we know (atleast he claims it does). "There are only two strategies in war. obfuscator
Well I know Mechscapeworld has been given exclusive concept art, so I imagine most of the information they have is probably legit. Danqazmlp
We should so compete with mechscape world and become the #1 mechscape fansite. Tip.it/mechscape ;) I also heard that mechscape will be aimed at a higher age group than rs. Want to be my friend? InkofDeath
I also heard that mechscape will be aimed at a higher age group than rs. RuneScape was aimed at the 18-20 year olds, and look how it degraded after 5 years even. Hopefully though that the Quests (or whatever will resemble Quests) are darkly themed, or are mature...and it attracts some of the MMO gaming veterans out there and give Jagex the recognizition they deserve. Bauke
"Probably" ain't enough. Well, if anything about Mechscape is trustworthy, then it would be mechscapeworld. Due to their affiliation with Jagex, and their exclusive content provided by Jagex, I'd trust them over any other source (well except for Jagex ofcourse). So I'd say, what is written in the report on mechscapeworld, that's pretty much what we know. Cowman_133
The point is that saying WE KNOW THIS IS ON MESHSCAPEWORLD LETS ALL GO THERE LOL doesn't really provide anything to the discussion. Bring in some quotes or some images or something and don't just burn the discussion.
Salad
Jagex took out some domains like "Mechscapegold.com" or stuff like that (Probably to stop RWT). Jagex bought "Mechscape.com" In 2003, so it's been 6 years that they are working on it (Or about it). Can't confirm 100%, but that's pretty logic of their part. http://mechscape.googlepages.com/
Will H
I am guessing that MechScape is in Java, so to claim that MS (oh dear, we need to find a better acronym, I'll read it and think Microsoft) is "one or two steps beyond RS HD" in terms of graphics is a big ask. RS HD was revolutionary in it's own right for such a platform. So how are they going to target 20 year-olds? Are they going to have darker themes? ~ W ~

RS HD was revolutionary in it's own right for such a platform. So how are they going to target 20 year-olds? Are they going to have darker themes? That, and also I believe the style of play will be different from traditional MMORPG's in the sense that it doesn't require as much grinding and levelling up. It's supposed to cater to people with less time for that, I think.
Forerunner
Hopefully though that the Quests (or whatever will resemble Quests) are darkly themed, or are mature... Quests are so medieval. InkofDeath
so to claim that MS (oh dear, we need to find a better acronym, I'll read it and think Microsoft) I read MS and think of it like the medical condition #-o Lol, I read it and thought of MS just because I watch House. Lol. ---- I'd like to know how their playstyle is going to be so different from other MMO's. I've played a ton of MMO's to be honest and developers before release always go on about how their game is 'different', 'revolutionary', or 'entirely different in the way that you play other MMo's'. While sure the game is different, the way in which you play it is hardly ever different. Same UI set-up, same basic way to 'train' whatever it is to train, same way to do quests, same way to do skills/levels (both are the same), and I've never seen a true attribute system. I could see Jagex using an attribute system and not a skill/level system, where you earn points, and then you can choose which attributes you want to put these points in. There's this game series called Dark Alliance, and it's when I first encountered an Attribute system and it was epic. When I needed to be more accurate I put more into accuracy, when I needed to be stealthy or quiet, I put more into that. You could wipe your attributes w/o loosing points, and you could just take away one or so at a time for each attribute and use it on another. While this would only remove the need for levels/skills, it still doesn't change gameplay. You need to earn these points in some fashion. Thus this is where developers would say they've got revolutionary gameplay, when in reality it's only just something different about levels, and not different about how you obtain the points, levels or experience. Still no game has really made a breakthrough without using this like 10 year old MMO template with levels, and quests, and very similar combat systems either turn based, real time, or directional. So I have a hard time believing that MechScape will actually change the way you play games. Thus Jagex is only going to be labelled as a company that wants money and not the best interest of players if they continue to advertise that they've got a unique game different from every one else's. Then again Jagex is a very smart company, and they don't have publishers killing their ideas, so they may provide something different. But if it is truly something different then it'll be a hit or miss by the players.
Amundogus2
Okay, I'll post some info then :P Wouldn't actually call my post advertising, but ok. So, MechScape will feature 4 different species, one of which is thought to be called "Pliigi". Agent1777
Do we have any clue what this game will be about?
