What do you believe happens when you die?

This is and always will be (for obvious reasons) unanswered but what do you think happens when you die? I like to believe we go to heaven and do what ever we want to do and its just like having the greatest super power ever. Rationaly i think we just go into absoulute nothing-ness as our brain dies so does our mind and what we think and are thinking and your mind wont live if your brain doesnt because your brain powers your mind. But i hope the 1st belief is right.

OK first off I'm gonna say to people not to turn this into a religious debate, like most of these threads turn into, please. Everyone's entitled to their beliefs here.

You'll never know until it happens and even if you are able to experience after-life you'll never be able to tell us directly.

oh.... you mean rl? uh.... thats a good question... i remember watching an episode of "in search of" on the discovery channel i think.... there was this interview with a guy who claimed to be a zombie, since he was alive tho he was officialy declared dead by 2 doctors (1 american). he said he was able to see everything that went on around him when he was "dead", as if he had his senses but he couldn't move and such. its a possible outcome... at least it would satisfy the 'eternal slumber' meaning :?

well it depends on if i get cremated or buried. if i get cremated, when i die ill be burned and be turned to ashes. if i get buried when i die ill be stuck in a coffin which is then stuck in a concrete box and buried. other than that, cant really think of anything else ill be doing when im dead.

Basically, I believe I will spend eternity with my Lord Jesus Christ ;) in Heaven - no idea what it will be like, but I'm expecting it to be super-sweet.

i think you get teleported into another dimension of the universe. OR, if your lucky, you might get teleported back to earth again. Remember, e=mc*squared, meaning that we can't disappear, but only changed phsically, not mentally. We'll be left in the form of energy, with our thoughts inside.

Well yeah, like mentioned, I also think there's two main options/sides to it. You either do nothing, (ie, its like sleeping, but with no dreams. I think thats happened to me before...or maybe I just didnt remember. anyhow, it might be like that) or you go onto your next life. I strongly believe you continue your life cycle elsewhere, but I dunno the details. You're alive and well, but your soul just moves on, out of the current body it posesses.

I think when I die my body and mind are totally shut off and the body, although pumped full of preservatives, will eventually decompose. I'm a bit skeptical as to what happens to the soul, because I don't know anyone who can describe the experience to me.

I think that the sperm and the egg are two diffrent things. The egg is the body, and the sperm is the brain. The only way i can see the theory working is if the soul goes into the sperm to be reborn.

ehhhh i think you just ummm die? i dont think that there is an afterlife, reincarnation, ghosts, or any of that rubbish, i just this that everything in you like your thoughts, feeling, etc cease to exist :?

Personally I think its the end. Nothing. Finito. No memories, no thoughts no nothing. Just emptyness, and of course 3 or 4 generations down the line and you will be forgotten. Just another abandoned grave stone. thoughts>

When I was fifteen, I went under full anestethic for surgery to my knee. I was on the operating table, one of the doctors pressed a button on a machine, and told me to count to ten. Before I got to three I was completely blacked out, and I woke up a few hours later in the recovery room. Somehow during those few hours the consciousness I seem to have during sleep seemed to be completely gone. I wasn't even aware of the fact that time had passed. My best guess is that such a permanent, complete loss of consciousness is what death is like.

Life down there is just a strange illusion.

I think our minds continue living for us in a parallel universe. Its hard to explain, but if your conscience was clear when you died or it was for the majority of your time on Earth, then you think of yourself as a good person and your mind kind of dreams forever. Its like a personal heaven and hell, if you think you were bad you won't have a good time in these dreams, but if you think you did good things for the right reasons you will see yourself as a good person and thats how you will behave in your dreams.

Its kind of hard to explain, but basically, you physical self withers away but you live through your mind.

A theory that i sometimes ponder is that the life i'm experiencing now is actually part of a dream for the 'actual' life i'm living. I don't believe that theory, but i just think it would be pretty cool if death meant nothing more than waking up from a sleep, living a day, then falling asleep and starting a new 'life'.

I know my grandma can't even be bothered to see her husbands grave more than once every 3 years and she only goes then because mum makes her :ugh:

It's possible there could be a supernatural being that created the universe, but instead of creating a lot of personless clones to keep him company, he (or she) is sending souls down to Earth to experience stuff, so that when they die, each one will be different and he/she can relate to them since he/she created them in the first place.

But, I don't think it's very logical. It doesn't matter how depressed or happy you are, most people deep down wish their life had an ultimate meaning other than viewed from the biological point of just 'surviving'. Not that you should underestimate surviving... You guys are alive today, you should respect your ancestors a lot because they survived very, very harsh conditions and in some points of history they survived cold climates of (estimatedly) at least -66celsius during the ice age, daily. During generations and generations.

Rationally thinking... :) It's obvious nothing really happens to us, we just decompose or taking the 'burning' option your ashes could be passed down as a family heirloom for hundreds of years. And it's more than likely that 'soul' is just a taught concept, it just means your consciousness.

Lol i reakon when we die thats it aswell no heaven and hell. buts its not we are all made out of energy/substance and when we die that energy/substance goes back into the earth. makin use 1 with the planet.
