24-hour limit on link posting?
D. V. Devnull replied to Youmu's topic in Forum Updates and Suggestions
Sonikku, this one must side with the Admins/Mods regarding this matter. Even 3 hours with an alert of temporary non-URL status for links might be overkill. Heck, this one has no idea how easy/hard it would be to implement a captcha to defeat spammers, but allow new users to bypass the time restriction if this kind of thing was put into effect. :-k BTW, even if this were to happen, it would have to wait until the pending forum upgrade was done. It would be in the same heap as some other suggestions/notes that this one has made. :geek: ~D. V. "24 hours = beyond overkill... Even if less, it's stuck on a queue anyway..." Devnull -

D. V. Devnull replied to Dominatr's topic in Forum Games
Banned because this one removed that due to not fitting everyone's definition of "Retired", as well as being way too ticked off at Jagex and the investors controlling them. That, this one feels a bit out of their mind, and has been taking a bit of flak from others on the forum who can't understand this one's harsh words and feelings regarding Jagex's stupidity. :-X ~D. V. "It really had to be you posting next, didn't it? This one didn't need that extra headache!" Devnull -
This one thinks that the Daemonheim Tasks will reward an item only usable in Dungeoneering, so there will be no cross-confusion with the Lumby Task Set. Therefore, no need to have the Explorer's Ring retconned. This one would be very mad if it did get changed to something else anyway. :geek: ~D. V. "Explorer's Ring is fine as it is... Daemonheim reward shouldn't be an issue." Devnull

Banned because this one has a headache from trying to catch up with this thread. -.- ~D. V. "And the next poster had better not be BlazeTMF..." Devnull -
No Then to hell with Dungeoneering for the BXPW, because players want their tokens!... Oh wait, this one's F2P, so it doesn't affect them. :P It's just this one's opinion, but skilling (except Prayer) seems to be the optimal thing to do for the BXPW time period. This one gets the feeling like preparation for things will be more valued than diving into the things themselves. :-k ~D. V. "Really, no token boost makes it not that great of a BXPW thing. Skilling FTW!" Devnull

This one forgot to remember mentioning that in their own post, especially since it caused their exit from playing RS in any large amount since November of Last Year. Good catch, Tripsis! :shades: ~Mr. D. V. "She thought to speak something this one forgot to remember..." Devnull

This one would like to see the source of that, after seeing the rule references above... ~D. V. "Really? Where did it say that?" Devnull

Looks good. You might want to remove the black sketch lines from over the eyes, though. And I suppose you'll run a sharpening pass on everything when it's about finished? :) ~D. V. If you reckoned the 'value' of f2p magic by the teleports, then you clearly didn't have much value in it to begin with. This one didn't reckon the value by just the teleports, Kimberly, but also valued it by combat and other things. At the moment, Melee can easily beat Mage, and even more so in F2P, when it is supposed to be the other way around. This badly devaules Magic, because it makes players feel like they're forced to try Melee to beat another Melee user, instead of using what the Combat Triangle says is correct. Yes, this one has tried to use Magic to beat Melee in F2P, with a 100% loss rate except in Fist Of Guthix. In particular in F2P, due to lack of damage spell power, and holding spell duration. Things are imbalanced in F2P far too heavily, and it should never have become this way. As for non-combat, non-teleport spells, they should be usable even while a player is on the move. Jagex hasn't rendered this possible, causing Magic users further issues, and therefore further devaluation of the skill. Literally a game and skill that can't keep up with its' users is self-devaluing. Having to go 'step, step, stop, alch, step, step, stop, alch, step, step, stop, alch', etc. (same applies for superheat and such) is not a way to be having to do something that should be possible asynchronously! So, yes, if you stack on these new non-spell teleport spots, it will pretty much render magic toward obscurity. In a worst-case scenario, you may one day see no one in F2P using Magic, just because of these. That's when the investors controlling Jagex will swoop in and remove yet one more F2P skill. Such loss would damage the Combat Triangle even more, and it would perma-damage Dungeoneering, where it is critical against some opponents. The quest, "The Blood Pact" would be stripped of its' meaning as a tutorial in combat types and applications! Would you really want to see the rage and upset from that? This one would most definitely not. No TeleTabs in F2P? That's a definite lie, and this one most certainly knows! Have you even played Great Orb Project and checked out the RuneCrafting Guild Rewards Shop within the same room? If not, you've got a bit to learn. No offense, but get moving... NOW. How? Range is supposed to beat Magic. Right now it's extremely difficult for range to beat a max mage. Magic has been on top of the PvP combat triangle for too long. Don't get torqued off. This one's opinion was based on their 100% F2P experiences. Since before I began playing in F2P, Melee beats all, and Magic never stands a chance outside somewhere like Fist Of Guthix. Literally, we're still overdue for enhancements to F2P Magic Combat abilities. As for the ease of which one is supposed to beat another, this one would agree that extreme difficulty is beyond far too much. However, putting it to a point where the one supposed to be on the downside will always lose, even if the one on the upside screws up, is not a way in which it should go either. If the one that's supposed to be on the upside screws up, there should be an opening in which the other can win, thereby teaching the one that screwed up a lesson. In short, this one's hidden point still stands in regard to the matter. Jagex needs to re-equalize the combat triangle, and not just for P2P, but for F2P as well. Just because one group doesn't want to get the levels for things, the rest shouldn't have to suffer the devaluing effects of their behavior. Jagex shouldn't support a tilt toward any combat style either. ~D. V. "Proper pre-balance is what this one calls for from Jagex..." Devnull (p.s.: Emotes skipped because of how long it has taken to post this. The feeling of forum burnout has reached this one's mind and fingers. And before you go nuts, this post is based on this one's experience and opinions only. Your mileage may vary!)

Banned for making all the males on this forum look at a woman's breasts in order to see what's printed on the shirt covering them. :shame: ~D. V. "You pervert!" Devnull -
Kimberly, not everyone uses (or can use) the RS client, and for many the RS client would be a severe framerate loss due to inability to stop certain things. You can note this one being amongst those who would be even worse hit by trying to use the client, so it isn't an option anyway. :shame: As for adjusting parameters, it doesn't work if you're using a browser like FireFox/Chrome/Opera/Safari/IE... Due to how Oracle/Sun has coded Java, and how the browser makers have coded their browsers, all parameters that are set by website developers override the user-set parameters at the moment when the Java applet starts up. Therefore, any user even trying to set some things like... -Xmx384m (RAM Increase, obvious...) -Djavaplugin.maxHeapSize=384m (Slightly deeper method of trying to force RAM Increase...) -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=false (Necessary for those who need 2D DirectDraw Acceleration!) ...end up flat failing, because the developer parameters, such as what Jagex is found to be using... -Xmx256m (Not enough on some systems...) -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true (Disables 2D Directdraw... Extremely damaging to users who need this enabled!) ...get listened to instead of the necessary user-set parameters. Put simply, businesses have decided they always know better than the user, and that's just not true. Many users (such as this one) know their systems better than the businesses, and can always better optimize their systems in ways a business can't understand. Getting overridden like this causes a great many problems to those knowledgeable users, including slowdowns and system instabilities as their system thrashes from the strain of not having what it needs set. Some don't even have 256 MB of RAM ("-Xmx256m", again) to allocate to Java, and that setting crashes those users outright. Not tolerable, in this one's opinion. <_< So if you're wondering why many of us are ticked off at Jagex, you can stack this post on the heap of reasons why. They will have to fix this issue themselves, due to what has happened, because the user is blocked from doing any kind of workable repairs/changes. One ultimate truth put very simple... "You don't override the user, and you let them configure their system how they need it to be set up!" ...because ignoring this truth is exactly what causes these kinds of awful problems. ~D. V. "Many of these issues could have been stopgapped if users weren't being overridden!" Devnull (p.s.: If you don't believe this one, go try and set 512MB of RAM or such in your Java Control Panel. You'll find it NEVER works where a developer has gone and been stupid enough to write their own parameters.)

Three problems with this, which this one encountered... -.- First, double-clicking to transfer tries to make the video pick up from right where a person triggers the transfer to youtube. This forces a person to then have to drag the slider all the way back to the left to get a proper stream. Due to the internet, pausing to wait is automatically something that has to be done anyway, so streaming from the video start works out best as it doesn't leave the player trying to connect the data together. Second, viewing quality/resolution has to be readjusted when transferring. It doesn't hold the setting while jumping across. Third and final, there is no Full Screen button on the YouTube player on Tip.It... The version of the player that is appearing doesn't have a Full Screen button on it! These are why this one was annoyed by not having a link directly to the YouTube page. This one had to stream the video twice just to get one proper viewing, due specifically to these issues. <_< ~D. V. "And now you see what ticked this one off..." Devnull

D. V. Devnull replied to Dusk Souls's topic in Help and Advice
Hiya, DuskEclipse... While it's entirely optional, you could copy and paste the source data from that questionable message to a post here on this thread. Yes, both headers and body in quote tags (the whole enchilada as this one calls it), but not the final rendered form of the message. This would allow all of us to see by looking at the underlying source whether it's really a scam of some kind or not. If it is, we can then post back to you about any incongruities in the message, telling you of any scammer tactics that we see being used. :geek: Or, if the matter's already handled, you could just totally ignore this post. Like this one said, "entirely optional" is what this curiosity-fueled request happens to be. ;) ~Mr. D. V. "Just leaving you an option..." Devnull -
