Okay... We're looking at needing Clare to get her what-cha-ma-call-it in here. It looks to me like I'm lacking some key piece of info you need for being able to make it stick under Vista. :( ~D. V. "Aww, [bleep]!" Devnull

Question for those familiar with NOD32, SpybotS&D,ZA(free)
D. V. Devnull replied to slymongoose's topic in Tech and Computers
I know I'm a late arrival, but here goes...................... slymongoose, Joey said it. BTW, the only program whose resident protection system that you should be using is that of the AntiVirus. (In this case, NOD32.) Well, that and the one of a firewall. :geek: As for Windows Defender and Spybot S&D, do have them installed and waiting, but DO NOT use their realtime protection systems, as those WILL interfere with the AV/FireWall... Further, try to toss back in ZoneAlarm WITHOUT having those realtime protections running. (Do, however, install that as an Admin.) I have this feeling it may start working if it only has to worry about the AV alongside, and not anything else. ~D. V. "Late to the ball game..." Devnull -
why2060, I can at least say a few things about FireFox. First off, if you're running NoScript, it needs to not be blocking the game applet. And second, if you're running AdBlock Plus, please let us know. I have a filterset that fixes this problem, and I've perfected it to 100% since the last time I had seen a person with these issues. (Only one Advert Object now that I have to rely on any secondary passes to kill.) :geek: As for IE, I have no idea what's killing that... BTW, have you rebooted that PC recently? :-s ~D. V. "Well, isn't that puzzling?" Devnull

Glad to hear that fixed it. : As for this, just look for an item marked as "Java" (Not "Java Plug-In", I forgot the convention change between v1.4 and v6, sorry!) in your Control Panel layout. If you don't see that, I will hope that Makoto or Clare comes along with info I appear to be lacking at this time. Good Luck to you. :geek: ~D. V. "Argh, where is that panel?!?!?" Devnull

MedievalKid, here is my opening question for you... Who are the ISPs that power each of your net connections? :-s (Call me crazy, but it sounds too much like they're all gamer-unfriendly.) ~Mr. D. V. Devnull

Caxis, I've experienced problems with Java (even the latest versions) on F2P, but it was cleared up when I told Java that it had more room to work with. You may wish to try the same. If you go to (I'm using XP, I hope this is the same for Vista) "Start > Control Panel > Java Plug-In", there will be a place within that panel to add the following switch (which you can just copy-and-paste) to the RunTime VM... -Xmx384000K ...which will tell Java that it has near 384 MB, instead of the basic 96 MB default limits, to work with as scratch space. (In case any of the propeller-heads in T&C are curious, I've seen the F2P RS HD applet eat near 120 MB of RAM in displayed usage at times, but noticed it bloating FireFox to 'hell-in-a-handbasket'... Horrible, eh?) Anywho, please try it to at least see if Java is choking, and let us know if it fixes your problem? :-s BTW... I'll admit, I'm taking a real shot-in-the-dark here. However, even if this doesn't cure it, it will have NO negative effects to try it, except maybe slightly increased base RAM usage, but nothing horrible. (You have 2 GB of RAM, right?) Further, the change can be undone if you want by following the same info to get to the destination, and clearing the command switch. :geek: ~D. V. *groan* ... Please don't use such annoying small font sizes. Leave things within a couple mouse scrolls of readable. 11,577 ~Mr. Devnull -
I wouldn't call it recent, if we are thinking of the same one. The latest one i remember is from months ago lol. There was one, I can remember, but I'm not sure if we lost it or not. Alright, I just dug down through 15 pages. (Yes, 15 pages... I know, half of you think I'm insane.) Sadly, it looks like we lost the thread during the rollback nuke... :| ....... I guess we'll call this the rebirth of the topic. ;) Hmm... I guess I'll have to go check my numbers again... I wonder what speeds I get. :-k ~D. V. Devnull

11,584 :!: Okay, punk... You're caught... Now you must suffer the fate of your wrong... :ugeek: <*DVD pulls out a weapon he hasn't used in some time, his "Buster QuarterStaff"... Expanding on this... You may also wish to try a "nslookup http://www.runescape.com", and then connecting after that. :-k BTW, if this persists, check your "hosts" file for an entry or two that might say something like "127.0.0.1 http://www.runescape.com" ... If you have that, then it means that either someone was pulling an April Fools' Joke on you a few months late, or you've got an anti-RS virus on your computer. :( Which, for the heck of it, would you please run anti-virus/anti-spyware scans, please? :-s ~D. I'm wondering that too... If Killer is trying to use HD, it needs a fully-working card. :? Also, there is a high chance that Killer is running out of system resources, seeing as on any OS, Java + FireFox = serious RAM usage. (Still, for FireFox's stability, I'd stick with FireFox any day.) :-k ~D. V. Devnull

Well, I can tell you that Epson and Lexmark don't put out the best of printers either. So you might want to stay clear of them unless someone finally got it right on a printer or two. :-k Although, I have to say, when the Epson we have here is working right, it prints beautiful photos. Problem for you is that this printer which I speak of is too old to find on the market anymore. :-s ~D. V. Devnull

Danger Will Robinson! (The do's and dont's in computing)
D. V. Devnull replied to ClareJonsson's topic in Tech and Computers
My TV allows me to play with only an audio feed. In fact, any TV I have ever owned has allowed me to do that. And anyways doing such a thing wouldn't break anything or prove to be even remotely dangerous. :? I'm the poor idiot who's working with a Panasonic TV here at my parents' home... and BTW, I know it wouldn't break anything or be dangerous, but it definitely helps to know the causes of some issues and leave a hint for others who might have the problem. Kinda thought that not having newbies screaming over this kind of thing would be a good idea, too. ;) ... So, please, don't kill me, alright? I didn't quite think completely about the opening part of Clare's thread title anyway. ~D. V. Devnull -

Danger Will Robinson! (The do's and dont's in computing)
D. V. Devnull replied to ClareJonsson's topic in Tech and Computers
Here's one, even though it might not apply to all television sets....... 'TV's & 'A/V from PC' If you're hooking up audio to feed to a TV, make sure you provide a video feed with it. Some TVs will not allow the audio to play without a video feed backing it. Also, if you're having to provide a video feed, make sure that you use the best link cable that you can between your video card and TV. :geek: (e.g.: HDMI/DVI > S-Video > Composite ... and yes, HDMI and DVI are 2 different things... I just haven't gotten to see an HDMI video feed from a PC, ever ... But, I figure it is as good as DVI or better!) ~Mr. D. V. Devnull -

*takes out shotgun* I'll start hunting for something that might fix this. ~Killer Killer & Peter, a good start point might be the file(s) that contains the custom tag data. Still trying to remember the filename, however. If I do find it, I'll let you know. If you find it before me, however, please tell what it is? :-k ~D. V. Devnull
