  1. This thread alone should be stickied, that way someone can say "Post an HJT log", and link here with that text to give instructions. :geek: EDIT: <*puts in a report to request sticky status, and hopes it happens*> ~D. V. Devnull
  2. You might want to say which applet you're using and what Java level you have. ;) ~D. V. Devnull
  3. 11,609 ... Let's keep rolling along, then. I'll make sure you get some peanut butter ones.
  4. I'm with the Mods/Admins on this one... <*goes hunting for anything breaking this forum rule*> ~D. V. Devnull
  5. Hey, Laikrob... Isn't that a mighty dangerous statement to be making? After all, the guy ain't a genie, no matter how much anyone wishes to make him sound like one, right? :? (LOL... ...) Also, I was looking at the Global Announcement that has been made ... Could it please be made more clear that this is the place to discuss about any of it? Finally, I'm glad to see that all of this has been put into place, including the alternate RSN field. All those who worked on this in Tip.It's Staff have my thanks. (OT: Was reading some past threads... Do you prefer being called 'Laila', or is that just a crazy nickname that someone thought up? *confused*) ~D. V. Devnull
  6. 11,611 ... Palindrome, nice ... : And hey, I see we have got a newcomer who's interested in those cookies! Who else is hopping aboard the train? ~D. V. Devnull
  7. 11,613 dsavi & run4, get us below 11,500 and I'll have a giant packing box full of cookies waiting for each of you. I might even have some for those that help. ~D. V. Devnull
  8. 11,620 Congrats... We just got onto a new page. <*gives Pryo a bag of cookies*> ~D. V. Devnull
  9. I can already say that Kaspersky does. I wouldn't even try Norton though, even if they have a 30 days trial, all it's gonna do is freeze the machine, if it's already slow, and you add something taking so much juice. I'll concur with sbrideau about Norton, especially since I've witnessed firsthand how much that AV sucks up....... BTW, don't forget Eset's NOD32! From what I remember, they have a 1-month trial also... :-k ... So if all else fails, it is at least worth trying. 8-) (Also, from what I understand, the update feature is the only thing on NOD32 that disables after the trial is over, allowing your PC to stay at least protected while you decide what you wish to do.) ~D. 10. 11,633 Very sticky situation, I'd say. (Pun intended.) ~D. V. Devnull
  11. Of course, if I have actually found the problem, then disagreeing with me is a bad idea. Or maybe you didn't realize that? :P <*walks off, laughing loudly*> ~D. V. Devnull
  12. What, me? I'm not having that problem at all. :) As for the opening poster, neither are they... In fact, it looks to me like they don't even have a firewall running, now that I really noticed it... No wonder they've been hit. That rules out any local processes right there, unless what happened was triggered by one of them. (Which I could almost bet on, if it weren't for the missing firewall.) :o ~D. V. Devnull
  13. You heard me... "Dr. McNinja"... and BTW, if you wish to know more, read through the whole site over there. 8-) 11642 ~D. V. Devnull
  14. Sadly, yes. I've tripped over articles about it happening, and almost been hit by more than one. (In case you're also curious, it was due to pages that are normally innocent, having been hacked/changed somehow to contain viral code, and/or triggers to download such.) They're called "Drive-By Attacks"... :( Please, tell that to Jagex? I think they should preview adverts before they allow the showing of them to the general public. :? ~D. V. "stuck on mental overload" Devnull
  15. I wonder if a spare iteration of you gets copied into the wrong place? :P As for the bugs... Extremely nice finds. I hope that never happens to me on F2P. :ohnoes: ~D. V. Devnull
  16. I'll support this... However, I have to say that some of those items would be good to have in F2P also. Mages decemating Warriors actually sounds fun. ~D. V. Devnull
  17. RS adverts can give you a virus? Very unlikely. I wouldn't take advise from D.V. Either way, post a HJT log. Nadril, you haven't seen a PC drag to a halt while trying to run the RS Game Applet while the Advert Server wasn't blocked, have you? You haven't seen your antivirus go off while playing on RuneScape, with nothing else loaded (and knowing your PC happens to be clean) and telling you that your PC is pulling down an infected file, which you're (at that point) certain that is being triggered by the advert frame, have you? Sadly, I've had the luck of seeing all of that, and I have to say, I was rather irate... (I'd show you the [bleep] log, but the system admin here keeps things to only about 3-4 months, and the incident is older, so it was 'pruned off' already.) I would like to hope that Jagex has possibly revised their Advert-handling/Advert-serving strategies, but I suspect they have not. Also, do you notice it was ONLY after having been on RuneScape (without the grade of blocks I now have in place) that le3t's PC was infected? Now, I'll admit I'm making the minor assumption of le3t having not gone wandering off to the fringes of the web, given as they sound like a total newbie. But knowing that the Java Applet NEVER has a virus in it, which means that you can't be infected by logging into someone's RS account... That means the only remaining way is through RuneScape's Advertisements, unless they did go wandering off into some bad spot. :ugeek: To which, I'm now left with these questions... le3t, did you only go to the RuneScape website on the day that your PC became infected? If you did go to other sites, which ones? (Some of us around here know where to stay clear of without a proper filter, and can tell you if any of those sites you went to are 'certified trouble'...) And BTW, you've got a lot of awful spaghetti in your HJT log... :-s ~D. V. Devnull
  18. 11,644 An image that will go down in infamousness... (click to view the link) Dr. Mcninja's Office being blown up. ~D. V. Devnull
  19. This sounds like something worth having as a sticky, much like the "Post Pictures of Your Browser" thread that's already a sticky. However, I would NOT make it a requirement to show off ALL of the computer's peripherals, seeing as there are situations where they can't all be out constantly for one reason or another. :-k I'll just look forward to seeing what happens with this. :) ~D. V. Devnull
  20. le3t, I can say that whatever happened was NOT due to the RS Applet. It is more than likely, however, that if you did not have the RS adverts blocked that you may have picked up a virus (or three) on your computer. :( Now that you're infected, good luck removing them, because they sound like they've been rigged to stop any attempts to kill them. :| (BTW, that HJT log, if you can get one, might still help.) ~D. V. Devnull
  21. You said it, Hawk... Thanks for catching that and getting it into image form for everyone. ~D. V. Devnull
  22. Here's a few questions to start: [*:355oufbf]Did you buy the computer pre-assembled? [*:355oufbf]Was there any discs provided with it? [*:355oufbf]Is there any directories that just look like driver stocks from the original manufacturer, possibly located on the base (root) level of the 'C:' Drive? :geek: Finally, why are you in need of a reformat? :-s <*sits back and waits for answers*> ~D. V. Devnull
  23. You and I share matching sentiments on this issue, my fellow Tip.It Forum member. ... Being too invasive is downright wrong. ~D. V. Devnull
  24. Hello, everyone... While using my available private message system functions here on the forums, I discovered that the informational indicators about messages are not staying visible (once again) on the screen. Also, I discovered that the icon indicators for sending messages have gone away again, after appearing for a while. :? Anywho, I was wondering (IF anyone knew) what happened, and if there was any timetable on fixing it? :-s ~Mr. D. V. "The Curious One" Devnull
