  1. Very good points Solidus, except I think your terminology is a bit off. What you are referring to in effect is social mobility - the ability for a person in one class to move to the class higher up in the heirachy. As you've mentioned, there are no actual in-game restraints holding people to the hypothetical 'class' to which they belong, therefore because of that, social mobility in RS is high. I would argue so high, that the whole concept of 'classes' ceases to exist, due to the ease with which I (for example) could switch from skilling to PKing, thus the barriers between classes simply dissolve. I link 'class' to opportunity, not merely the way in which someone acts, lives or behaves like you seem to see it. Everyone is RS has equal opportunity, except for a few exceptional rule-breakers and those who can only come on RS for a strict amount of time. Even then though, the possibilities open to them are exactly the same; it just takes longer to get there.
  2. Exactly. If you are referring to an increased amount of tools on fansites as a sudden increase in the intelligence levels of your average player, then you, sir, are a fool; A) Draynor having more tools avaliable to use indicated they have a person willing to spend time thinking of, and creating new tools to use. It reflects nothing on the RS population; B) Surely an increased amount of tools avaliable hints that the average IQ value of an RS player is actually lowering, otherwise they wouldn't need those tools in the first place. Of course, that's complete rot. I have strong opposition to using the word 'class' as well. RuneScape isn't a classist soceity. It's not like the real world where you have several distinct classes (the proletariat vs bourgeoisie, for example) - the economic situation is the same for everyone is RS. Thus there are no 'classes'.
  3. I notice you've highlighted Russia in that list of people with nukes, as though they're in with the Americans when it comes to nuclear proliferation. To Russia's credit (although it was probably more of a propaganda campagin by Putin to be perfectly honest), Putin has actually held the Americans up when it comes to the Middle East on several ocasions, publically telling the world that it's unfair America is allowed to build tens of thousands of nuclear weapons, and then for America to tell any other country they're not allowed. You have to remember Russians probably make up getting onto a half of the Isreali population, so Russia's influence is felt in the Middle-East. I personally feel America's stance on this has nothing to do with security. Certainly, America's actions are not those of protectionism, at least not in a military context anyway. Provoking the Iranians and making them angry is not only a threat to America, but also a threat to the campaign in neighbouring Iraq, so America's actions make little sense. I feel this is completely down to oil. America knows full well that if Iran became capable of building nuclear weapons, Iran would consequentially be able to turn round to the Americans, and tell them to get out of Iran. They wouldn't lose any trade, not when Britain, China and the whole of Europe are desperate for the stuff. In short, this is just down to the USA wanting to keep a tightfist control of the situation in the Middle-East. I look at this and I actually think, "Why does America agree with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty?". Do I seriously believe the leaders of the world's biggest superpower signed up to it out of some moral obligation? Of course I don't. It's America's way of ensuring they have a weapon only four other states joined to that treaty also have, and then effectively banning its use anywhere else. Then they'll tell the world, "It's for our own protection - the fact the Middle East has barrel loads of oil has nothing whatsoever to do with it". That's the way I feel about it.
  4. Indeed. I mean sometimes when I get in from college and all I wanna do is play Civilization IV, I go on the more powerful family computer, instead my personal one which is enabled to use the thingie we use to update stuff on the site. Anyways, if you have a look, I've gone and updated it. :)
  5. It isn't a case of arrogance on our part, please don't feel insulted. It's just whenever we receive information about anything, we like to have proof to back it up. While you still haven't actually provided actual proof, it's clear you've done all possible to gain the correct data, probably more than we Crewbies would have been able to. I'll add this information into the entry now then. Your help is appreciated, believe me, but we still reserve the right to be a bit skeptical about the information being fed to us, even if all the other information you've provided to date has been reliable. Having read your explanation, I'm convinced that you'd know the monster's HP best, so I'll add your version of the data and replace ours. Thanks, ~Ginger Warrior
  6. It appears I shot the gun prematurely on this topic, as it were. I realise now you were talking about the Fishing Guide, for which I had no idea we'd actually put the shop prices on the bottom, so I misread the post, thinking you meant its shop database entry. My fault for not reading properly really. #-o Please accept my apologies.
  7. If you couldn't figure out that he meant pedophile, you have more mental problems than he does. Well, I suppose a person with a degree in mental health such as yourself would know... obviously. In case you haven't noticed, we don't take very kindly to insulting on these forums. It was a perfectly good question. All it needed was a Yes or No.
  8. I can understand what people are saying about the rice should just be dircetly donated in the first place, but surely the point is that at the end of the day, rice is going to be donated to children. Surely, from a consequentialist point of view, the fact we have to prove our vocabulary in order to do that should be outweighed by the very fact food is being donated?
  9. What on earth is a "pedofile"? Is that how the USA spells "paedophile" or something? Wow. So the guy's never actually been in love or shown any sexual preference, yet I'm expected to believe Rowling intended Dumbledore to be perceived as gay? Or maybe it's just to kick up a bit of fuss and get people buying the books... kinda sad when you have to depend on a character being a homosexual in order to sell your book a bit better but... I digress I suppose.
  10. Maybe it is a tiny bit immoral for people to be profiteering from the poor... then again that's capitalism, and in my honest opinion, excessive profiteering from a few has led to the situation where the developed world can literally give tons of food away to developing nations, when there's a perfectly good enough quantity of food to go around. So all in all, I can't really see how this organisation is doing anything 'wrong'. In fact, I'd say they're doing a much more moral act than Walmart or Tescos ever will. I commend both the organisation and the companies involves in the project for organising this website. It's certainly positive action.
  11. I believe we already have a subforum for "What if" questions about RuneScape. As Dragontotem has pointed out, it's called the Questionnaire sub-forum. I have a feeling you already knew this though. Are we barking up completely the wrong tree, and are you actually suggesting something else? If that is the case, I'm sorry for insulting your intelligence, but I really can't see what you're suggesting. Could you explain it a bit more? :|
  12. True fakeitormakeit. In which case, I hope I didn't completely waste my time making my avatar on GIMP.
  13. I'm playing Super Paper Mario on the Wii, which involves holding it sideways. It's a nightmare, that's for sure. The Wiimote keeps losing connection with the sensor bar every few minutes. It seems to run out of batteries faster. Your left palm blocks the infrared sensor. All in all, it's just horrible when turned on its side. SSB has always been abut button bashing. The GameCube controller suits that purpose. I'll be using the GameCube controller for sure.
  14. Fletching. Tried going for 99 once with some mates at CW. Burnt out. Then after I got 99 Cooking, tried going for it again. Failed after 4K yew longs. Now I'm currently sitting nicely at 94 'um-ing and arr-ing' over it. :-k
  15. I understand that m1cha34l, and I really don't want to politicise this issue. However, in near enough all the country's RS is played on, attacks on people on grounds of their sexuality are seen as either immoral or illegal. Therefore, it's fairly safe to assume most people on the channel advocate tolerance of bisexuality. If the mod kicked him on the grounds (s)he was deliberetely stirring up trouble by saying (s)he was a bisexual, then of course, the mod has every right to kick him/her from the chat. However, if this person has been kicked exclusively on the grounds that they are a bisexual, then that's wrong, and would arguably be illegal had it happened in a public venue. The reasoning thing does make sense though. However, from what I've seen, kicking powers are rarely ever used and when they are, are justified and explained. Remember that it's still at the moderator's discression and their decision is final.
  16. As Tripsis says, there will always be people who are willing to spam up the forums just to get their message across, or just to be a complete nuisance. You can control the amount of them there are by enforcing moderation, yes, but in my opinion, Tip.It Forums has done all it can to restrict the amount of spammers on the forums while still making the forums a friendly, open place. Therefore, my personal judgement is that any further clamp down on the few spammers that remain would actually do more harm in terms of the quality of the experience shared by forums users, than it would do good in the amount of spammers left. And even then, there'd still be some left at the very least. So, all in all, I think this is a poor suggestion.
  17. The Hallowe'en event item. (Why is a UK-based company celebrating Hallowe'en anyway?...) :-k Then? Who knows...
  18. Smoking 15 times a day? I'm amazed he isn't either dead or a schizophrenic. Or maybe he's just chatting bubbles... Rogues' Den I've found it actually quite a mature place. I actually had a debate about globalisation with a load of people there when I was going for 99 cooking. There were other mature conversations (most of which Jagex would probably disapprove of anyway) we had, so to say Rogues' Den is a place for immature people is a bit harsh TBH. I go on clan chat, while listening to music, or talking on MSN, or tuning into Radio 1 with Zane Lowe. Basically, I just take myself away from the in-game chat system. Solves the problem most of the time.
  19. I'm sure his penis contributed to that as well. Maybe so, but there's no denying tabloids get way too... emotional about this stuff. It wasn't like England performed particularly badly in my opinion, and I say that as someone who deplores England in international games, except for perhaps a few errors in the defence. Russia were given far too much space on the wing. You could argue that when you're given that much space, the chances of picking up a penalty go up that little bit higher when the defence starts to panic. End of the day, Russia were the better team. That's not McClaren's fault. He's done well rallying up the team, considering the position they were in three or four matches ago.
  20. Well, if anyone could give us names of the people who were making such clearly derogatory comments, we can keep a look out for them in the future. As for the person involved, make sure (s)he knows they're always welcome in the chat so long as they break no rules. Their sexuality should have nothing to do with their privaliges of joining the chat, and if this has happened, then it's wrong on the part of the moderator. Simple as. Until then though, I'm not going to make a judgement based on what seems to be speculation over evidence.
  21. Excellent! I've been waiting on some info for the wasp, spider and frog since last week. Thanks loads! :D I'll work through this information and and it to the entry later. :)
  22. The system used by the "Submit Correction" link is currently undergoing maintenance, so is unavaliable. Just thought I'd clear that one up. There are three other ways to contact us with any information you may have though. The first is through the "Contact Us" form on the main page. Alternatively, as has been mentioned, you can contact any Crewbie (for a list, see the Staff List on the main site) through PM, although the Crewbies who would deal with any information you have for the Bestiary would be myself and darkblade986, so it might be wiser to PM one of us. Lastly, there's the Website Updates and Corrections board, as pointed out by mchainmail (thanks ;)) above. I'd advise you to read the sticky in that board which tells you how to submit information effectively before posting. Just on a side-note, items researchers (to my knowledge) cannot change Bestiary monster entries. They aren't generally responsible for dealing with information about monster drops. Hope that clears a few things up. :
  23. I checked nexgenwars.com this morning. The Wii and the 360 were about 60,000 consoles apart, with Wii catching up at about one thousand per two hours. Yet, I've just checked again now, and it's suddenly risen again by 100,000... Are they rigging that thing or something? :-k
  24. What fun would that be? :D Seriously though, I just don't have the will to argue this anymore. I would argue to the death on here in the glory days, but they are long gone. Yeah same here. It's clear we have much self-belief in our views so we may as well just run around in circles...
  25. If you call winning by a penalty and a drop goal "amazing", then yes, it was amazing. Leeds Rhinos beating St Helens tonight by 33-6 in the Super League Grand Final. That's amazing entertainment.
