  1. This is baffling me as well. The BIOS has no concept of a cursor, let alone it's appearance. The files which determine the size of the cursor is in the operating system, which is completely separate. Maybe a faulty driver is causing the problem? EDIT: Vidi's probably nailed it, it makes sense.
  2. Please don't do that. Windows Updates keep your computer a lot safer and faster. They also usually supply drivers for any devices you add, which won't work or won't work well otherwise. I'm also going to advocate Microsoft Security Essentials, but remember the best antivirus program in the world is in your head. So long as you know the signs, viruses won't get to you.
  3. I honestly hope you're not referencing to the tradable drops. If you are, you're completely missing the point of a holiday event.
  4. The huge size of the Universe makes it pretty much certain that what caused life here will cause life elsewhere, but the huge size of the Universe makes it pretty much certain that we haven't been in contact with them before and won't for a very long time. I... that is we need to start colonising other planets before that happens.
  5. I don't think you will be able to get hold of infinity robes right now except though the minigame. The people who are going to profit are those who sell infinity robes right now. Oh, and it looks like a good update, I like what they've done with the Rune Guardians, I thought that they were a bit lacklustre before.
  6. Maybe, but some skills need boosting far more than Cooking right now, as a skill it's doing quite well and has a good path ahead of it. Fairly soon we're going to get Constitution boosting stuff (a.k.a. increased Max Health), so people will have to eat food to fill that extra space. If this is ever done, the cooking should be complicated with a high burn rate at most stages. That way cooks will have to make a serious effort and be rewarded in the end. Healing 25+ should never be easily achieved.
  7. True, but they are both needed. In this one, it's laid out in front of you, you have to deal with a single situation at a time. Sheep Shearer and Cook's Assistent prepare you for more open ended tasks which you can approach in different ways (do you buy the items, buy the tools, or find/make the whole lot yourself?). The game has both of those situations, so it's great that the Novice Quests now reflect that.

I agree with you. Unless you are using ancient magicks (which is out of the equation in f2p), it is far to difficult to prevent a meleer from getting close enough to land some deadly blows. Holding, pushing, or otherwise keeping away your opponent should be simple. Dealing damage should be what your magic level primarily amounts to. There also needs to be some improvements on the inventory space front. Jagex seemed to start on dealing with this by introducing Combination Runes, but then abandoned the whole project shortly afterwards. There needs to be some kind of storage mechanism, like a belt that you can equip in the arrow slot (this makes sense when you notice that dragonhide armour holds some arrows against your leg). I'm sure the crafting skill would appreciate the addition.
  9. Maybe a 3 child policy is appropriate in the short term? It's extended families that are the root cause of overpopulation. Ideally, the population shouldn't grow or shrink, so given that the ideal birth rate is about 2.1, and considering some families that don't actually have 3 children even though they can, a 3 child policy would make a good enough approximation. But, the Indian government must not use any such policy as an excuse to not invest in contraceptives, sexual education and birth control, or they'll end up in the same boat as China.
  10. I think it's a bad idea. Some skills can be set up so you can gain very fast experience in a short burst. Combine that with a 2.7x to 2.0x multiplier for a few hours and these methods become so overpowered that it devalues the game as a whole. Stealing Creation and Barbarian assault rewards specifically don't benefit skills such as Summoning, Herblore and Farming for this reason. Skills should never be generalised as equal in any single respect, Jagex should know this better than anyone. The supply/demand curve was never going to react well to this either. It made certain resources which I would have wanted whether or not the XP weekend was on completely unavailable or overpriced. Finally, it brought an unnatural sense of urgency to the whole thing. The game is too casual and freeform in design for a feature that's designed for a different game. I wanted to go questing/Temple Trekking on that weekend, but the event has forced me to skill when I frankly didn't feel like it.
  11. Overall, a great addition to the f2p game, and it demonstrates how the combat triangle is supposed to work really well. It's what the 'newbie' stage of the game needed.
  12. It just gives 4x pray xp as normal, as can be found in the faq of the RSOF thread mentioned above.
  13. That's a great idea. Runescape would fit in to Facebook perfectly.
  14. Eh, I haven't seen a bot in nearly 2 years now. I think the game has more important issues now, groups of bots simply can't function efficiently.
  15. It's a really promising suggestion only if all of these fires were player made. They should take a long time (up to several minutes) to light and burn to full strength, but once they're going you can extend their life by adding more logs. Having a higher firemaking level will make each log last longer, but using better logs will make each log last a lot longer. Once lit, everyone can add to the stockpile (if the fire is not dying) or the fire (if it is), and use its boosts. I think we've just found a way to get firemaking into a decent skill.
  16. I agree. The point wasn't the whole 'beginners don't like being hit for 1' thing, that's a side effect, it was to break the bond between your Hitpoints and your Hitpoints skill level, allowing boosters to your max hp instead of your actual hp. I think we'll find that this update will get a lot more support once we start to see these Constitution boosters.
  17. I know it's your opinion but I still say that it's all based off of just how used to an OS you are. Even though I use OS X a lot in school I'm still really iffy about the OS in general and I just don't like a lot of it. I find windows 7 to be a lot more user friendly (especially if you're used to windows based operating systems). I just have to ask though, what is it about OS X that you guy's all find really user friendly? Windows 7 has a "dock" just like OS X after all and in all honesty I find the mac's way of exploring folders to be god awful compared to windows explorer. I'm just wondering why people find it so user friendly. Does it have something to do with the perceived notion of it not messing up or breaking or something? I don't know the differences between XP (what I run) and vista/7 very well, but I hate hate hate XPs way of "exploring folders". Seems like I'm taking twice as long to do something as I would on my Mac. I mean, what's the deal with having to click start>my computer>C drive>program files to get to an applications files? I'll stick with finder>applications, thanks. I guess it's the little things that do it for me. I've used Macs since I started using computers, and I'm still discovering new things. One my friend showed me the other day was how you can click on a file and hit the spacebar to view it, without ever opening it's application. Way cool. But XP is 8 years old now. You can't criticise Windows based on an OS from 2001 in an environment of 2010, much like you can't with Macs. The Jump Lists are also very useful in Windows 7.
  18. That also confused me. That is one thing that is un-needed from the update. They are still hit points, so why confuse people and change the name to life points. Actually, there's one other thing. I don't want members advertised to me when I log in, especially when I'm already a member. At the very least, could they stop it appearing after the first try using a cookie if I last logged in to a members account?
  19. I'm wondering why they bothered about changing the value of the player's current health to 'Life Points'? Almost all games refer to it as Hit Points, or HP. I'll still call it that. Oh, and can anybody else log in right now? It just keeps saying that Runescape has been updated, even if I reload the page. EDIT: Never mind, I'm in now.
  20. Yeah, it's not interesting. Oh right guys, skully sc obviously knows what interesting means for everyone else besides him! Since he's such an established member he can set objective standards on everyone, not only in video games, but in other subjects as well now! Anyways. Granted it's very minuscule, but won't some experiments and equations that require precision need some tweaking now? Yeah, I was wondering on the same lines. If those atomic clocks can measure to an accuracy of a second over the course of a billion years, and change of 1.3 microseconds in a day, every day, suddenly becomes significant. It might mean that we would have to put more 'leap seconds' in the UTC clock.
  21. Of course it's not the same game back then. If it was, it would probably no longer exist. Dharok is based on a combination of life points and your own pure stupidity for thinking it otherwise. Next time, read and think about the News and KB articles. Yes, you will take fractionally more damage because they used to always round down, but we're considering the equivalent of 0.1 of an old hitpoint. It's nothing to be exploding your face about.
  22. Go for a PC, the money you will save means you can get a more powerful machine.
  23. The number playing is going up one by one, it went to 2 and now it's 3.
  24. I thought MMG wasn't going to go for cheap membership incentives like we saw in the Iddison era. The more I think about it, the more I feel that this is a bad idea. The economy and skill system is delicate, balanced and complex, and repeated exp weekends will damage both. Why are they doing this, anyway? It just seems so un-Jagex like.
  25. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's appropriate to this game. There's a culture here where high level players want the skills they have achieved to remain difficult to everyone else, otherwise they feel cheated. Admittedly, this time it won't make much of a difference, but if they do it too much, there is going to be some raised eyebrows.
