  1. I have just informed Jagex of the issue, and I am sure they will investigate. Thanks for bringing it up.... sounds nasty.
  2. I believe the starting wage for customer support is ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã13-15k a year (thats $26-30k for you Americans) You have to remember different report options went into different piles to be worked through, and they always have prioritized what comes where in the report que. So for example they have said previously that stopping staff impersonation is one of the top priority from the damage it can cause, although that may have changed to a different rule along the line.... Banning bots has not been really a large priority of recent years, as it does not do much good with the speed they can return which is why they focused mainly on other ways to more permanently stop them. But as it said player mods forum mods and allot of dedicated players did a hell of allot and where taking probably 1000's of accounts out a week. The last reports I heard a few months back was that jagex where banning over 6k accounts a week..... that takes allot of man power! and perhaps now that is not needed they can get on working other reports actioned very quickly.
  3. it will still disappear though....
  4. I use it regally..... but always as part of a joke, or imitating a begger through pms to friends... True though, not seen it used for a long time outside of jokes.
  5. Ah ok, so it;s a one time buy..... but you can only have one grave set up at once to avoid grave spamming? I would say if you can afford it 500k is a sensible thing to buy.
  6. Sorry to be off topic, but I have heard conflicting reports about graves... and don't feel i can join in this discussion until I know the answer... are the graves a one time buy, or do they need to be rebought each time I die with items? (aka one grave per death)
  7. It isn't. The problem isn't with the programming but with the database design. Consider this board. An admin could change your name easily, because in the database you aren't "Duke_Freedom", you are "userid # 690". That's what is used to index your profile, options, PMs, posts, etc. The only place you are "Duke_Freedom" is in a user data file, so that can be changed there and then it will appear everywhere else dynamically. If Jagex, rather than using a user number index chose to key using the user name, then changing user names would be extremely difficult. It could be done, but would require a large amount of work. Actually I am not sure if they can change the names on this system.... I know you use the same forums for your site, but I remember on forum suggestions forum I remember sombody asking for their name to be changed a while back and was told they would have to open a new account as it cant be changed....
  8. Personally I don't think it's going to be a major risk... No matter what the realities are with respect etc, I feel that players are going to recognize it as much higher risk, and also as it is essentially one account per person at a time, there will be a considerably less impact that autoers who probably have 20 or 30 bots per customer. Also from a legal angle there is not the issue of bot organizers paying with stolen credit cards, so it is not as big of an issue for the game as a whole. On a side note with the loss of allot of pures, stakers and merchants, alot of the old community who are more likely to use these services are no longer about. Obviously it's still an issue that Jagex need to watch, and belie allot of the old effort put into bots, has now been redirected... and they have also implied that their detection methods are very good for this issue... they seem confident that the accounts can be very effectively banned.
  9. you say its not 1 person yet you only give a 1 person example. Engage your own brain and show more proof. 1 example does not change the masses. So your saying that because someone bypassed a filter , they should be allowed to get things back? I don't think so. That is like rewarding the guilty. Not only that , if they did that now they would have to go back 7 years and do it for all those they banned in the past. F*kedyomomm , third person to reach 99 hp , banned for his name , never offered anything but the chance to make a new account. , no stats , no name change , no free membership. Actually, they are having one big push, to get rid of them.... only one example shown but I promise you that they are going after all offensive names.
  10. I have very mixed view points on this, as I possibly put across in the other threads... In one hand, I feel that after a certain point Jagex should put up their hands and say.... "hey! we missed them, let `em be". These players have been on for along time and allot of them are respectful community members. Also I agree that starting again as a level 3 is a real kick in the face..... (I will go more into that later) However, I also see aloft of positives in it. It's good that Jagex are willing to do a very unpopular thing to do whats for the best. At the end of the day the accounts aimed where made with offensive names, and we should not really have them about. It will be nice to have 2008 starting as a whole new place, where allot of the old issues are gone, maybe it's good that Jagex are saying enough is enough..... lets get it over with before it goes even further. As for the not editing stats thing, I think it is a block that jagex them selves have but on the game, I seem to remember it explained once that it was once possible but mistakes where made losing people items and stats.... jagex changed it so they cannot make changes to banks, stats etc. Good or bad I don't know.... but it's a reason. In this case as already explained in the other thread, I don't find the name atall offensive, but can see how some odd people can totally miss interpret it... I would like to think that this case is appealable. Stepping away from the human side and looking at the over all, I feel it's possibly a very hard, yet ultimately good decision, and it will be nice to see 2008 starting fresh, yet from a human side I think there is a large negative to come with it... and allot of cases are just not offensive unless you are very easily offended. Perhaps if enough person miss interpreted the name in this case then maybe there is an issue..... possibly can be miss read more easily in other languages? I don't know. I am just going to sit here on the fence on this one, it's a really hard thing for me to give a definitive answer on.
  11. Personaly I don't find the name offensive, but I wont get involved with that. just to let you know through, Jagex are doing a mass clear up of any account name deemed to be offensive, getting rid of all the names at once, even though I dont think this name is.... I personally think this is a good move on jagex, and will set the game in good stead for 2008. In this case I think Jagex made a wise desission allowing people to transfer items. Stat switch was not offered as it is not possible... sadly its just not something they can do. The messages are premade as it is exactly the same infomation they need to say each time, and need to send ALOT of messages. Although I do think they could have actually said his name rather than dear player.
  12. Don't know why the heck we are discussing the wilderness ditch..... but while we are.... Sly whilst there was the warning that flashed up for the wilderness, may I remind you that bug abusing lurer's had ways to get people into the wilderness without the victim having the message displayed, and no they tried but it was not a bug that could be fixed. Reasons for actions are never 2D, if you treat them as such you miss so many points of view.
  13. Sly_wizard... may I ask if you have read the development diary that went along with this batch of updates? If not I would ask you to.... if you have I would like to bring your attention to the section that mentioned that the Farming companies where actually buying membership with stolen credit cards, meaning Jagex where finding them selves in major legal issues, and faced being forced by the credit companies to stop excepting credit payments for membership.... Take that on! based from what i know that was possibly as close as 6 months down the line.... where 60% (educated guess) of members would no longer be able to pay for membership on the game.... now I am sure even if you don't use credit /debit cards to pay this would effect you. -you probably (I hope) have friends who pay via card who your would lose -the majority of members would just not resubscribe as they don't trust the other methods as much -The game would stop being profitable meaning Jagex would have to lay off staff, which would reduce support and updates. -future games from the company would also not work with the credit problems. Basically if Jagex did not take drastic action THE GAME WOULD HAVE TO CLOSE... cheating effects everybody... directly or indirectly if hurts us all
  14. Also we should see a massive reduction in account hacking/hijacking as the hijackers will not be able to get the items off account... although account trading will probably go in an increase, which may cancel it out as the groups will target the official forums and game with hack site addresses aimed at steeling accounts to be sold on.... of course I don't think they will be sucsessful as they have the entire of ICU focused on it.... and accounts are regainable. I semi expect Jagex to put a block on logging onto accounts from addresses over X miles away (cross continental) without having the account unlocked (with recovery questions) by jagex.... I feel if they did that we really would see an end to the illegal aspect of this game.
  15. Hurray! Me and Qeltar are on exactly the same page for once! Not one point I would differ with even slightly. Whilst I feel that some of the features that have been done/will be done need some tweaking for balancing and fairness reasons, I sadly feel that the updates where badly needed. I think the resent updates have removed allot of the worst of the players indirectly, sadly it was always recognized that it was the worst: pkers, stakers, and merchants who dragged down the games community.... I feel we are going to have a much happier, more mature community with them going. However saying that I think the better members of the above groups have had the ability to adapt to the changes.... I would still like to push for a bigger staking cap (50-75k) and a bigger trading boundary (10% either side), but if not I can still carry on. I do feel for some that genuinely feel let down by Jagex, and as the development diary said... I think Jagex are sorry to have to let them down as well. I think the game can go to a new strength now, and I bet within 6months most of the other MMORPGs will have followed what jagex have done. It will be interesting to see what the warcraft people say then...!
  16. The game has been changed massively, but I am unsure if it is actually for the negative, Sure I am sure every single player in the game will have some small or major issue with one of the updates, for me it is the unbalanced trades... But in the long run, with a few tweaks I am sure Jagex will make, I think it is probably for the better, now please don't take me as generalizing here.... as it is defiantly not true for allot of people, but with pkers, stakers, and merchants gone, is it possible that the games community will become massively more mature, and this game become a better place. Pkers (especially edgville pkers) as a general group are recognized as one of the most disruptive community in the game after band new players, is it possible that we would all be happier with the new system? I have no doubt that with no rwting or autoers this game will defiantly improve, and am amazed to see Jagex as the first MMORPG company to make such drastic efforts. If it works in it's task I really belive that most other popular game will follow, with the dangers in all aspets that rwters bring.
  17. My appeal was later denied :-s 0.1 Blackmarks plus a 1 day mute. This was my appeal: There is no way Jagex reads every single appeal if they failed to pick up on this -.- Support more than 400 characters in ban appeal - make a sig for me today! We all know that the "q p w" is ASCII art for male reproductive organs.. -.- I would sure hate to see you smiling....... I am pretty sure you are fully aware of what you did there, remember that the main audience of this game is under the age of 18 ... I am sure it does not take much effort not to be offensive,
  18. As far as I am aware it is not happening yet, but it is a suggestion that has been noted along with all other suggestions on how to fix the issue of losing old game features. I know a 3month thing has defiantly been written down..... but as with most things after discussions etc they are unlikely to happen.
  19. That's idiotic! Jagex shouldn't have the right to tell you how to feel. They dont.... we are allowed to think however we want to think, as long as we act in a mature and professional way, Jagex are more than happy to listen to criticism, but they don't want people who act in a disruptive matter to be in a moderator position
  20. Interesting find.... I would be tempted to submit a bug report and see what (if any) reaction it gets, it's often a good test when you are not sure if something is intentional or not..... I will keep listening though.
  21. Jasper Carrott is a member of tipit :D plz dont take offense ^_^ Wow!! glad you said that! I though the exact same thing before I read your post.... for those who don't know Jasper is a British comedian: You get no picture of me....... it would scare you all :P but here is a self portrait!
  22. As always Qeltar, a great bit of writing that should defiantly make a difference to how some people in the community. From your list of reasons... I would place my self as a large collection of all of them.... I am never a fan of making a loss though and will aim to profit from my training where ever is possible. It's important for me though that profit does not come at the expense of enjoyment, and so I am prepared to buy in 'stock' for aspects I find less enjoyable. I know people who fit into every group you listed.... I have a few rank 1's, a few 200million xpers (or aiming for that - who will archive it) and some who are just in it for the skill cape. it is important to remember that everybody is different, and just because people cant understand somebody's actions, does not mean they do not have a very valid reason for doing/aiming-for something ___ In reaction from what the message on the front page said, big well done for tip.it in the war, and I might attempt to write and article one day.... i even have the topic, but I would prefer to give it the justice it deserves so will wait till I have the right frame of mind.
  23. I am sorry and understand that you where trying to help, but we cannot allow ANYBODY to post urls on the forums, they are extreamly damaging to our community, and do cause allot of damage. I speak to you as an official forum mod it is our policy that any hack/scam/offensive website urls are dealt with very strictly, what you needed to have done is to submit your infomation by the "comment on our service" link on the main page. We have no way of knowing a players intentions of why they have posted a link and so treat them all as a serious rule break. Again I recognize that you where trying to help, and am sorry that you got a bad reaction from your efforts, but the reasons why we issued a ban was very important, and I stick by the desission. The forum emergancies thread is for emergancies found on the offical RS forums, that need the immediate attention of a forum mod, and should be used for no other reason.
  24. I got banned also that day and when I sent my appeal in, they used the auto-reply "they had clear evidence I was in control of the account". I never said I wasn't!!! OMG idiots. Then I sent in my last chance appeal and thy denied it. I had that account since 2001 and they banned it. They said i had repeatedly broke the rules, I have no blackmarks and I repeatedly broke the rules?!?! They should know TOS means nothing and they owe me money back. I am not going to comment on RWT'ing bans any longer.... I am just not in hold of any evidance, and so would be wrong to speculate (unless theya re really obviously wrong/telling lies) But just to comment on "they had clear evidence I was in control of the account" statement that I see mentioned so many times.... I have discussed this statement with a jmod member of Customer support in game before and whilst in my opinion the wording is wrong..... the reason why they put it there is valid. They try and get as many facts as they can in a response to an appeal, and if they know that you where in control of the account (based on ip address etc) they state the infomation, as it saves trouble down the line. As I say I feel it's worded badly, and probably will recomend that it is changed if I hear much more said about it.
  25. Like everything in life political motives push us too one direction. It seems to me however that Runescape... and more precisely Jagex is centralist, rather than right or left wing. generally they allow the economy to travel in it's natural direction, not punishing the rich or helping the poor. However when they wish to restore balance within the economy or raise or reduce prices they will release an update, or change the way something works which will bend it towards the desired direction. They don't control the economy, but do their best to keep it stable, and balanced in a very centralist fashion.
