The only renders PR lets in their galleries are ones that are rendered from publically availble images on the internet (wallpapers, stock photos, etc). GIMP has all the features and more of PS, you can write your own plugin if there's something it doesn't do that you want it to do. The pen tool is apparently very different from PS's but I think it's fine. You can rearrange its tools and add/remove dialogs if you feel the need, and edit the skin to your preference.

School Plans on Buying Netbooks for its Students, Help
Makoto_the_Phoenix: they've said the laptops will only have 80mb hard drives. What can you do with that? These computers have to be able to log into the school network, is that possible with XP Home? My questions about the internet stem from the fact that the school district could be liable for 'bad things' that happen to students as a result of being unsupervised with a laptop with internet. I honestly don't care, but I want to know what they're doing to prevent that. I am planning on asking them about what they plan to do in the future, they've siad they hope the laptops last 5-6 years, and after the first round of laptops is done (after next year's sixth graders are freshmen) they will buy the extras needed using money from the general fund.

I'm using my mom's camera, it's a little canon one, these are the specs from DA: Picture Make: Canon Model: Canon PowerShot A470 Shutter Speed: 1/8 second F Number: F/3.0 Focal Length: 6 mm ISO Speed: 200 I believe it's a 7.1 mega pixel, with 3.4x optical zoom (whatever that means)

Much smaller photos this time. : I've been experimenting with the macro option... These are all on my DA as well. And can someone offer advice about preventing over exposure (like in http://hawkxs.deviantart.com/art/Japane ... -121456951) [hide=Apple Bud][/hide] [hide=Apple Flower 2][/hide] [hide=Bleeding Heart][/hide] [hide=Unknown Flower][/hide] [hide=Apple Flower 1][/hide]

School Plans on Buying Netbooks for its Students, Help
My school district is planning on buying netbooks for all of its junior high students (they're getting a new building, and there was money left in the part designated for technology... why they can't spend money on buying MS office is beyond me but anyway) Specs they've relesased: 80Mb hard drive, 3 yr warranty with an option to buy into some form of insurance plan. They hope for them to last 5-6 years. Each kid will receive one netbook during their JH career. At the end of 8th grade, they turn it back into the JH, and get a new one in the fall which is theirs during their HS career (but they will turn it back in when they graduate) Can you give me your thoughts on this? I am writing a letter to the technology coordinator addressing my concerns (I am a freshman in the district who will not be recieving a netbook but I have a younger brother who will... you could say this is spurred on by jelously... sorry for my awful spelling) The tenative outline for my letter is below. I will be talking to some fellow students to find out their thoughts also. [hide=Letter Outline]Netbooks. Why/What -Why did you decide to purchase netbooks for all JHS students? -What do you invision these being used for? -Can you give me more specific specifications? (OS, RAM, network capabilites) -How do you think teachers will use this to their advantage? Internet/Network Connections -Will students be able to use these on the Internet? -Will there be non-bypassable filters to prevent students from looking at objectionable content? -How will this work if they log on at home to a wireless network or at the public library/McDonald's etc.? -If students take their laptops home, do they just log into the laptop, or do they log into the school network somehow? How is this differentiated, because they have to be able to log into the school network, but also use it at home? General Usage -Under what conditions would a student be liable for the replacement/repair of a computer? -If another student bumped into a student, causing damage to that student's [the one bumped into] laptop, which student would be liable? -Would they be charged even if it was under warranty? -Can you give more details into an insurance plan and what that would cover? -What sort of limits do you have placed on these netbooks? Will they be limited like the school computers? (in that you can't change the backgrounds, edit the icons, install programs, etc.) Other Ramifications -You have said that labs at the HS would be closed, can you give details into why and which ones, if you know? -When would these be closed? Would the closings affect the current freshman class (Class of 2012; who will not get netbooks)? -Because of this, do you expect to have applications installed on these netbooks that would otherwise be availible only in the labs? (PS, other Adobe products) -Or would this just get rid of the current school-owned laptops that are already in pretty bad shape? Suggestions -At the parent meeting in the fall, it would be important to explain thoroughly the internet and network parts of this system so parents understand what the computers can and cannot do. -Also thoroughly explain the insurance system and explain why parents would want to buy the policy.[/hide]

Answer to the question: I read as many as possible, and check the overall rating of whatever it is I'm looking into, be it a CD, a book, or a video game. Riddle: Is it sleep?

Get GIMP. (http://www.gimp.org) Works on any platform, has a great community, and is just like PS without the cost. And there's lots of tutorials for it. A few of my favorites: http://daconman.deviantart.com/art/CREA ... t-94374158 http://blakemoso.deviantart.com/art/Gim ... loggedin=1 http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/enguarde- ... 19378.html http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/penguins- ... 10820.html If you plan on making sigs, you should probably sign up at http://www.planetrenders.net so you can download their renders and sprites. You can post your work in the Gallery here as well and get help. (though I don't recommend posting the first sig you make) If you need more help, post in The Gallery; the people there know stuff about lots of stuff.

7th May 2009 - Development Diary: Tools for Games
Hoping for more than just six-sided dice... d4s, d8s, d10s, d12s, and d20s would be a whole lot more interesting.... Please Jagex? It could start a clan revolution of people who otherwise wouldn't have a reason (or an ability (levels)) to get into a clan. (including me, and it would get me to play more, probably)

Knee problem
It was a while ago (that I saw the PT) and I figured that people know random things here.... and last time there was one of these topics, tif apparently has some people studying to be doctors; and that other people might have had similar problems.

Knee problem
I've recently started having knee problems again. My problem in particular is that my right knee will partially dislocate itself and then go back again, alebit very painfully. It only takes a second or so, but the pain continues days afterward. This is the first time in a few months it's done this. (today it was aggravated by me getting off the bus [going down stairs]) Previously it's been bad enough that I was sent to a physical therapist who gave me exercises and stuff to do (which I haven't done since... becuase I figured hockey and then gym would keep it in decent shape) I'm thinking of taking up yoga. And we have an elliptical which I might use once my knee gets a little better. Advice would be nice, and I know I should be doing the exercises. If there's ones in particular you know of please tell me.

Today...
I got off the bus this morning and my knee paritally dislocated itself again. It pretty much ruined my day, and I'm still limping and having problems going down stairs. I did manage to almost get hit by a guy while waiting to get on the freeway... And my dad can't help my with my math homework because he has dumb golf today.

Being a Geek is now "cool" in today's pop culture...
...But can you code? Some, but not a lot. But I plan on learning... And coding does not define geek, I'd like to think that sufficiently geeky things are also at work... ie D&D, which I believe that you don't play.

for £100k would you let your parents...
Ya know, I would actually. They'd be more freaked by some conversations I've had and other certain things I've not told them then if I looked at porn (which I don't) but I'd welcome the 100k (which is about 150k in US dollars so more for me)

Being a Geek is now "cool" in today's pop culture...
I find this dumb. I am a true geek. I have random computer knowledge, have inane math skills, play D&D (which I bet most 'geeks' do not), and I receive the ThinkGeek catalog as well as the American Science & Surplus catalog (both amazing things... http://www.sciplus.com) And I own sufficiently geeky tshirts, a D&D one, a Link one, and a LEGO Darth Vader one (which says 'The Force is strong with this one'). I can quote passages of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. I know about 'DO NOT WANT'... And I use GIMP but not Linux. Squeez Bacon!!!

Radio Host Michael Savage Banned From England
The guy is very obnoxious (and kind of offensive, he got kicked off the air for a bit about something a while ago) but apparently people listen to him, and this is a dumb move on Britain's part because he's just gotten free publicity.

Some Elephant/Panda/Seadragon Photos
These are some from my spring break which I finally got around to putting on my DeviantART. I have an inane amount of them so I only picked some, I'll post the best of each category, and there are more on my DevART. *Warning* These are insanely large, it's probably easier if you just look at the Deviantart links: http://hawkxs.deviantart.com/art/Elephants-3-121456159 http://hawkxs.deviantart.com/art/Panda-3-121455600 http://hawkxs.deviantart.com/art/Leafy- ... 2-12145663 http://hawkxs.deviantart.com/art/Japane ... -121456951 [hide=http://hawkxs.deviantart.com/art/Elephants-3-121456159][/hide][hide=http://hawkxs.deviantart.com/art/Panda-3-121455600][/hide][hide=http://hawkxs.deviantart.com/art/Leafy-Seadragons-2-121456635][/hide][hide=http://hawkxs.deviantart.com/art/Japanese-Friendship-Garden-121456951][/hide]

I really liked the structure of the second one, it was a nice change from the normal wall of text. Both articles were interesting though.
