  1. Theres a huge difference and its not based on disk space. Items are loaded one at a time, guides are loaded all at once. Adding another section to each guide stating the "best" way to do a skill or task just adds to the size of the guide and makes for more reading. Not to mention the fact that the "best" method for one person is not always the "best" for all. "Best" methods are opinion based and not suitable for reference guides, which is precisely why we created the archive of wisdom and player made guide forums.
  2. Other than the title, this topic is pointless.
  3. Next time it's brought up , I'm just going to remove everyones ability to use signatures and avatars completely. Hows that sound ?
  4. I know it sounds stupid, but don't allow access to your database :P thats the ONLY effective defense. And as you can tell from the recent little oops , its VERY easy to miss something when writing a script so ALWAYS sanitize your input. You might want to check this article out though , its rather informative and might help you decide on an alternative http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=0 ... 2&from=rss
  5. its possible , but not really necessary. Yes it would change the hash , but as md5 becomes more and more vulnerable, it will barely slow anything down.
  6. Thats about enough I suppose
  7. Someone bumps an old useless topic and you wait 9 days to do the SAME DAMNED THING in an attempt to insult him ... Wow , I'm impressed
  8. No , you really can't. IDE drives plugged in while the operating system is running would NOT be usable even if they didn't fry themselves.
  9. I prefer Fedora as well
  10. That is by far the most awesome thing I have read all week, thanks :)
  11. your guess would be horribly wrong :) As active as the forum seems, the traffic to our website makes up 88% of our overall, the forum is the other 12%. The forum doesn't even pay for itself, the website picks up its slack.
  12. Am I reading that right? you plugged it in while the computer was running ?
  13. I'd like to clear up any rumors pertaining to our recent downtime for the forums. The forum database was NOT accessed or compromised in any way, shape, or form. There was a slight hole in a script on one of our other servers that allowed a user to view the MD5 password hash of staff accounts for another section of the site. Unfortunately some of these passwords were weak and used in both places. That in turn allowed access to their forum account. That hole has been closed and all accounts involved have also been taken care of. Thanks for your patience in this matter and we apologize for the downtime. Albosky
  14. All private messages not in users save boxes have been removed. Once again, all complaints regarding lost messages will be ignored.
  15. I already get about 40 useless PMs a day , a few more wasn't going to hurt...
  16. What part dont you understand ...... Moderator TRAINEE A.k.a , in training The people who ARE chosen will not be given instant moderator privileges and set free to police the forums. Hence the word trainee  I can't think of any simpler way to put it....
  17. We dont have an exact number we want , or need. It depends on the voting process of the applicants that still remain.
  18. Less then we started with , and more then we'll finish with....
  19. Thats not a matter that ius relevant or needs to be discussed here, Reb didn't apply and would have given the reason why if he wished.
  20. Which lowers the amount of gold going to players who harvest gold by selling macro'd products, which reduces the amount of gold harvesting "players", which reduces the amount of income going to gold selling sites/players, which reduces the amount of sites selling gold, which reduces the amount of people getting banned for buying gold, which INCREASES profits for Jagex :P This update was the SMARTEST thing Jagex has done since Construction drained so many bank accounts back in June 2006 ..
  21. I guess I would be a good example for this post lol Can't stand Runescape anymore, even looking at screenshots of it makes me want to puke.... Yet I still log in here daily, check the server logs , keep the os up to date, help manage the crew/mods, etc etc Weird :-k
  22. Ah crap , my lack of free time has been discovered :-w
  23. wow, file_get_contents :P Seriously, use cURL :) Also , for the skills array , why make it 24 lines when it could just be one ? And I don't know if that code is actually in use , but using the root mysql account for scripts/application is probably the worst choice :)
  24. They have enough to do already and we don't want them to feel obligated to start moderating the forums as well. By not having the ability to do so, guarantees that.
