  1. From what I can see , nobody edited your signature If you worked "oh so hard" on it, you should have kept a back up .... And if you're looking to see the person who supposedly edited it, "pay for it" , you're barking up the wrong tree  And nice try on the "they had no right" , your signature is stored in OUR database and we can do what we see fit with it, read the registration agreement more closely next time...
  2. Although its a tad late , its caused by a weird, and almost never occurs, bug with Opera not properly decoding zlib compressed data .
  3. even funnier that it took me over 5 seconds to load THAT site. :P But, I used it anyways :P The funny thing is , all these tools are never going to be 100% accurate due to their own servers load. Your own personal route to the server you are trying to view, etc etc All connections go through up to 30 different hubs (or servers if you like) when transferring data between the server and the user. Any one of those servers could have an extreme load and slow the results. Results will never be perfect but we get very little complaints about speed overall. Trust me , I monitor statistics on our servers quite closely and make as many adjustments as possible when they can be found, but I cant fix every network router in the world to ensure that every ISP delivers its customers the best connection at all times :) I do appreciate the feedback though, don't get me wrong , I'm not trying to knock your info , just adding that there are way too many factors that come into play when it comes to serving content to millions of users worldwide :)
  4. The funny thing is , Alexa only measures traffic generated by users that are using the Alexa Toolbar when they browse the web. Personally I see the toolbar itself as the problem. My browser contains none of those toolbars or unnecessary add ons and neither the forum or our website ever take more then a second to fully load.
  5. Hard to read???? Have you ever read a guide that has 20 or so pictures written by a person who has absolutely no idea how to crop an image? When you have to scroll side to side to read every line and then up and down to read the entire post , THEN its hard to read.
  6. We don't prune to save disk space , we have 400x more space on our servers then we would ever need. The reason being is that most rants are pure junk, repeated topics, topics that violate the rules, not really rants at all, the list goes on and on.... Would you prefer that we leave the last 25 pages full of all those locked topics that have zero meaning ?
  7. What browser? What version? Running a firewall ? Is your refrigerator running? Are cookies enabled? Are cookies being allowed from our server ? How tall are you? What size shoes do you wear ? If you give no real information, then there won't be any real solution.
  8. Topics stay in the marketplace forums for 3 days. When a topic is inactive for 3 days , it is removed. The more activity the forum has, the more topics you would see, and more pages there would be. Jagex forums have a huge amount of pages because they do not prune topics where the items are already sold, bought, or inactive. No fansite forum will ever be able to compete with the activity level the official forums have in the marketplace.
  9. So let me get this straight You see a lot of spam , but you want us to grant the users more privileges which they could use to further add to the spam.... Giving users the ability to delete their own posts would be like giving murderers the ability to magically remove all evidence from their victims, its not going to happen. Users need not lock their own topics, if you don't think your topic needs to be replied to , then it probably doesn't even need to be posted. If a topic is "getting out of hand" , theres no need to PM a moderator, use the report button , its like PM'ing every Moderator and Administrator at once. Yes, it would indeed be great to have a double sized Moderator Team, let me just search through the memberlist and pick a few at random. Finding trustworthy moderators that can deal with immature users and problem posts on a consistent basis is not as easy as it sounds when theres a few hundred people browsing and posting 24 hours a day. Contrary to popular belief , post count means absolutely nothing when we invite people to join our staff, but I'm also not going to tell you what we DO look for either, that only adds to people trying to live up to some standard that is false. Be yourself, if you have the right stuff, someone will notice you. As for the Runescape News, you may find it useless, great, you don't need to browse it , but we have got so many users that actually visit our site before runescape.com and like to see if theres anything new they want to try out that day. Not everyone plays Runescape every single second they are at home, but we have a pretty large handful that do like to browse the forums and site daily. It also gives the users a central site to share their thoughts on the update. Yes the clan section has its ups and downs, its active one week and not so active the next , changes will be made when they are needed. We already have the Off-topic forum that has its own group of users that like to address all those topics you mentioned, and you're right, they shouldn't be grouped with posts like "whats your favorite color?" , because to be honest , posts like "whats your favorite color?" are completely useless and really need not be posted anyways. A debate forum has been suggested as an off-topic subforum in the past , and the off-topic users didn't feel it was all that necessary. If an "immature user" posts in what you call a "mature discussion", well, thats life. As a user , you have a choice, you can join the immature group and acknowledge it, or join the mature group and ignore it.
  10. If your signature actually was "I would rather die fighting for what I believe in, than live for anything else." then it wouldn't have been deleted, but thats far from what it said according to the report.
  11. I'll explain it ONE LAST TIME..... The search feature marks any word found in more then 40% of the posts as "common" and will not return the results of those posts. When a post is made , the search function strips all BBCode from the message. It then separates all the words in the post. Then it strips all non-alphanumeric characters out of the words (only a-z A-Z 1-9 are kept) It then removes any words that contain 3 or more consistent characters (hence why ZZZamorak and Aaron11144 were not found) Now it moves on and removes all words that are less then 4 characters long or greater then 16 characters long. The words that are left are then stored along with the corresponding post id number for search results. If you are looking for posts by a specific author, use the author search, don't search for their name as a keyword. Theres no possible way I could allow every single character to be entered into the search tables. Theres over 1.8 million active posts, each with an average of 20-30 words. That would result in over 45 million entries needing to be sorted through every time a user tried to search the forums. On top of the absolute annoying strain on the database, you would end up with so many results that its almost definite that nothing you wanted to read will actually be found in those results. BE SPECIFIC when you search , use multiple words, use the author search , choose the forum/category you want to search , use the title only search , etc etc etc...
  12. As tallest said above, we do ask that Moderators leave a message or an edit explaining a lock, sometimes it may slip their mind as they often handle multiple posts at a time due to the report system, the level of the days activity, or other various reasons. We have posted a reminder to the Moderator Team to kindly try and add a reason or post when locking topics so users do not feel "left in the dark". :)
  13. I see no problem with the guide staying here. It's a guide, its written by a player, for the players , I'm sure it could be useful to someone, somewhere. If it was an exact replica of the beginners guide , maybe that might be different, but its a specific and was well written :)
  14. Well I can guarantee you this , if a signature is removed, its not a moderator you would need to contact. Moderators cannot alter or ban a users account.
  15. How-To Guide: Taking Screenshots and Posting Images The image your signature links to will not be accepted though , its much larger then our limits allow.
  16. I have changed the avatar limits to 8KB and 100x100 , with the ability to use an avatar linked from another site. Avatars linked from other sites will be automatically checked by the scripts to make sure they are within the allowed limits and will be rejected if they are not. As for signature changes, none have been or will be made any time soon.
  17. You seem to have misread the pages title ....this is the PLANNER , which just as our other planners do , tell you how much experience would be gained and what level you would be at the end after you enter how many "things" you are going to do. A calculator is in the works , but its a bit more complicated...... For instance, lets say you are level 94 attack , and your desired level is 99 , your points would be worth 1472 XP each. (161,920 per 100 cashed in) You need ~5 million exp to get level 99, I can't have the calculator simply say that you need 3096 points, because the points would increase in "value" when you hit 95, 96, 97 and 98.
  18. Thanks for the compliments and suggestions so far , we are pretty much looking at this as a "beta" , we wanted users to see what we had so far so we could expand on the idea as time permits :)
  19. I noticed it immediately after posting and have corrected it already :P
  20. After many user suggestions, I finally have some enhancements installed to make a posting a lot easier to read, as well as create. A minor glitch in the phpBB JavaScript which inserts BBCode at the end of your message instead of your current cursor position was fixed in subSilver quite some time ago , but has now been fixed for every template we have installed. A new BBCode "Hide" has been installed. This will allow posters to hide a portion of their message until a user clicks on the link to view it. This works exactly like the Hide/Show buttons we use on our Quest Guides. This can be used to hide spoilers such as movie or book endings , or even to hide a large image to prevent stretching the page before a user wants to view the image. It supports custom text , as well as having a default. For more information on how to use it, see our BBCode FAQ [hide=Click here for an example]This is a hidden message[/hide] Easy image attachments have been added to the Post window. Below the textbox where you enter your desired message, you will now find a link "Add image to post". Upon clicking it a popup window will appear that will allow you to upload your image directly to Postimage.org, when the image has finished uploading, the popup will close automatically, and the proper BBCode to post the image will instantly be inserted into your message. A change has also been made the Quote BBCode. The title text for quotes will now appear as a link which will allow users to collapse quotes within the message. A new profile option has been added as well which will allow users to select whether quotes should be hidden by default. This applies to both posts, and private messages. I hope you enjoy these changes and should you encounter any problems with them , please use the Forum Updates & Suggestions forum to report them or suggest any further changes.
  21. Silverion is not "safe" from sue happy people because he lives anywhere, you seem to have that misunderstood. The server resides in the United States, therefore the site is subject to laws in the United States. And yes , we DO enforce the age limit laws in the United States (COPPA), which states only that Parental Consent must be obtained in regards to collecting Private Information. Which actually we do not, we do not require anything but an email address and a password upon registering. We do not ask nor want a users real name, age, address, phone number , social security number or anything else which could directly identify them. Our forum software comes packaged compliant with COPPA and has not been edited. If a user lies and clicks that he/she is 13 or over when registering, we are not liable and must only remove their account if their legal parent or gaurdian requests it, and provides legal documentation proving their claim. Then again , this has nothing to actually do with the topic. The admins are still addressing the pros and cons , and until a decision everyone that agrees to is made , sorry , you'll all just have to ride it out.
  22. Due to popular demand and recent changes in Jagex policy regarding Worldswitcher applications and Runescape Toolkits, we have updated our Forum Rules (Section 1.1). If you have any questions or concerns about this change, you may contact an Administrator. Thank you for using Tip.it Forums :) Albosky Tip.it Administrator
  23. The spam in this topic has gotten way out of hand. Unless you have something constructive to add to this topic , don't bother to reply at all. One topic that is occupying too much of the Moderator Team's time is not going to fly much longer. Be warned, if an Administrator is forced to police this topic again , it will be outright removed , therefore destroying the entire debate and all the work that went into creating signatures and links to it , as well as a ban on the topic being re-created. It would be a shame to destroy something that has gained so much interest, but we have another ~1.7 million posts to worry about and cannot continue to spend hours per day watching this one. 24. Any idea if any of those sites are bringing in anywhere near 2 million unique visitors, 400+ million hits, 600+ million page views, and using well over 4TB of bandwidth per month ? Well , 2 out of our 3 servers are , now start adding in what each users modem would have to download on top of that for each and every signature since they are not loading from our servers, then multiply and add the increase in avatar size per page as they are loaded from our server. Now that you have that astronomical number, pay the bills. I haven't the foggiest idea of what type of hardware those sites run on, how much it costs them, or how they pay for it all each month as it's not my business to know, what IS my business to know and do is whats best for THIS forum and website. No I don't pay the bills directly, but it is my one main responsibility to maintain them running at an optimal level at all times. Our USERS decided the current limits and there was still a large handful that didn't want to see any increase at all. We don't judge our limits and policies based on what other sites do , we base it on what our majority of users want (within reason of course), and as you can see from this topic alone, the users don't want to download another megabyte per page , and they shouldn't be forced to disable viewing avatars and signatures.
  25. phpBB's "IMG" BBCode will only work on jpg|jpeg|gif|png , bmp's will not be embedded into the page , but posting them anyways is still frowned upon as you would have to link to the image directly , which for one, is inconvenient, and 2 , makes a lot of users nervous about clicking links.
