I love them too, I haven't had my usual bad luck with their products (when I buy something I usually have to return it and get another one in the days following because of a defective part in them).

Get something else than sony? My philips headphones has went quite a long time before breaking. Come to think of it, I've had them for around 3 years now and they still work pretty good. The set I had before that were also philips and worked for 4 years.

A few $1 canadian bills and a $2 canadian bill, which I consider to be pretty rare because they've put them out of circulation in in 1987 and 1996 respectively. I don't think there's too many people that still have those bills.

Maybe it means you're not infected? It does mean I'm not infected, but what I like in an antivirus is when I get prompted when theres updates or such, so I get a sign that it's updated. What I said here is just an example, I like when the antivirus at least shows in the corner of the screen some action.

I'm trying out that MSE, and appart from the RAM usage (which is very low so -> it's good), I am not impressed by it. I don't get prompted with anything, ever, which is something I hate in an antivirus.

Still, this is just a repeat of the bird flu, the seasonal flu will still kill more people than the swine flu. I agree on the fact that at least the people in risk groups should get it, and even if I'm getting it, I'm just getting it so that I don't suffer and stay in the bed having H1N1 as I cannot afford losing classes at college.

I am not stupid. I know what a tracking cookie is and I study in computers. What I say about detection rates is from my experience. I have used all the antiviruses that I tal about and am even trying the Microsoft Security Essentials to see how it will do. Even if Avira has more false positives, it doesn't have much compared to other antiviruses like Avast. Whatever the statistics are, people can make them say what they want. I have had a few statistics classes so I know that fact. Scanning time doesn't bother as the thing that should be the best in any antivirus is the detection rate and also the RAM usage. I've used both Norton and McAfee antiviruses (even now, college forces me to use McAfee on a virtual machine -.-) and can say that they are still too heavy on the resources thus slowing the machine down, which to people with budget and low end computers can get trouble even opening programs. AVG did have good detection rates, but that is now in the past. It has went from a very good antivirus to a bad antivirus around the summer 2008. And like I said I know the difference between a real virus and a false positive, and I can say I always look at the results before removing the detected object. Norton is once again good on detection rates, but they're still too low for my standards and it's still too heavy en resources and still causes problems with other programs. McAfee hasn't changed and still slows down machines with 2GB of RAM. I do have to agree with you on Nod32. While I think it was only Devnull that praised it as much as you say, I have used it for almost a year and was deceived as to what was said about it. I didn't use it much as it wasn't that good. Also, that pdf is nothing really amazing as they have not went with the default settings, which is the settings most people use on their machines. This is something that makes the results kind of false in a way.

Back on Firefox for a while to see if it's more stable that it's other 3.5.* versions.

Usually when changing the motherboard, you also have to change most of the parts. Why not upgrade to a new computer?

I wonder why people still say that AVG is good, the detection rates of it are really bad. I've had a friend that was with AVG and had a computer that became very slow a week earlier and then asked me help. Upon switching to Avira, it removed over 50 viruses that AVG didn't pick up. Same with another of my friends that it removed even more, up to 200 viruses were on that other friend's computer that was also with AVG. Imagine how much detections there would be with an even better antivirus like Kaspersky! To the OP, I don't think there's any danger in transfering files. If you don't have viruses right now, why would there be on the new computer? Also, you have no reason to be so paranoid, most people that get viruses get them from dodgy sites, where I don't think you ever go.

I used ME for 7 years it was on the parent's computer, I didn't have my own computer in that time. My first personnal computer that I bought myself was in 2006 and I still use it to this day with Windows Vista which is a very good OS. I didn't know that ME advertised itself on the network like that, Now I know the reason we had more viruses on that one than on most other computers.

What's worth it is getting rid of Norton and have a faster computer with a better antivirus such as the free version of Avira Antivir which has a much lower memory usage than Norton when running.

I watch a show every sunday where they talk about some researches that are done, and yesterday they were talking about H1N1. Apparently it's much more inoffensive than H5N1(bird flu) since porks are more similar to the humans than birds, and that it was only a medium between the bird and the human, making the virus already something that the body could recognize more than if it was directly from birds. Yes, most of the A type flu comes from birds, even the seasonal flu. At least that's what they said in that scientific show.

Can't find the website again, but most of the theories have been debunked.
