Ditch Avast for Microsoft Security Essentials or Avira Antivir. Avast has too many false positives from what I've seen, and seems to have more false positives than actual detection.

Did you go from 32bit to 64bit? That's what I did when I went from Vista to 7 on my laptop and it does heat more as well.

I think you are right here hawkxs, I've been blocking the ads with ABP for quite a long time and not seeing the ads may have saved me from seeing that particular ad. I have not had any malware from tip.it either, nor have I had malware in a few months.

As for the random freezing and restarting, looks to me like overheating symptoms, have a look inside your case to see if there is a lot of dust, and if it's the case, the best way is to use a can of air to clear the dust. I don't know why it would be restarting instead of complete shutdown, which could mean something else, like a malfunctionning part.

I have a 1TB hard drive that I made multiple pratitions with the NTFS filesystem, so I suggest you do the same, or if you want, still a single partition. To initialize it, you can go to the disk management that's built in Windows, to do so, press the win key + R then in the run box that appears, type "diskmgmt.msc" without the quotes, you should be able to see your unallocated hard drive there. One thing though, if your computer slows down upon adding a hard drive, it might be the PSU that's not strong enough to add something to that computer, might I ask, is this a costum or prebuilt computer? Saying that by experience since when I temporarly put my old PSU back in my computer, it was strong enough but ran very slow because of the bad PSU.

Don't go with Dell, nowaday's dell computer breaks quite fast, in under one year. Most of the Dell computers that people have that come here or even irl (yes, irl I know someone that had to replace the hard drive because of a failure, his computer was 3 months old) will break within one year. I suggest building the computer yourself, but won't say anithing right now as I am currently not in a fit condition (drunk) for the parts, I don't want to get you mistaken on parts. I do think that if you want a good prebuilt computer, you should go for Asus, they are extreme quality, even if they are a little bit more expensive depending on the model.

You're not getting the picture here, I would encourage the guy to learn C++, but he gave up Java when he got puzzled. The reason I told him that is because if he's too puzzled by Java, he's going to be with C++.

If you had that much trouble putting something in an array, I suggest you use something else than C++ cause you're giong to have a [cabbage]load of trouble learning it and doing it right. Also, making memory leaks is quite easy, like forgetting a simple keyword (which I assume you know).

On the main subject here: I would call the computer manufacturer that will most likely send the disk free of charge, or if you can't wait, follow Pure_MageUK's advice.

If you want to move your files to an external hard drive or usb key, you can do it using a Linux Live CD, such as Ubuntu. Here's how to: How to back-up using a Linux Live CD. I would go about doing that full recovery afterwards.

I take it you're not far in the learning of VB, if you'd be as far as I am in it, you'd know what it's useful for, although it's only for Windows. C++ is still much better though.

Welcome to the tip.it forums! Your hard disk is full, so to make storage space, you would need to either move some files to a usb stick/external hard drive, or delete a few things, which depending on the size of the drive, might be a lot to you.

Fanboyism is not welcome here. I personnally would not go for an Ipod or the Zune, you can get something similar with similar quality for less.

Shame we don't have this here, I would've got a new AM2 processor to replace my damaged one.

I agree with your P.S. Dell does suck a lot, you should've went with another company :). If we want to be able to tell you what the good choice might be, we will need computer specs of the desktop and the laptop you plan to buy and also the cheap new laptop.
