Ah, I didn't know you wanted Windows to work. I thought you wanted to back up your files to another hard disk. They are standard SATA connectors so you should be able to plug it in a desktop (while not attaching it) and back up your files, but getting Windows to work, you're going to have to put it in the same model of computer that has the same hardware because of the drivers.

Actually, me hating MS is false, I like to program in VB.Net too, but if I were to program on an open-source platform, which I'm surely going to do in the future, I'm not going to use a MS based langage since I won't be on Windows for it. I'm not saying that C# is bad, but the OP wants a Non-MS language. I like using MS products, but that will be when I can afford them. Until them, I'll happily use opensource and freeware. Also C++ is probably the best language for games as others said but I would take java into account if the guy wants a language easier to learn.

Did you put it in a desktop or a laptop? It would be preferable to have it plugged in as a secondary hard drive, leaving the original one in the computer so that windows loads and you can get your things back.

C# and Java do not "hold your hand". You can't just magically write huge programs with no effort. Quite frankly, the absence of a few *, & and -> here and there hardly makes any difference (at least to me, some people find pointers difficult). It's basically a syntactical thing. And you will probably make a few more mistakes here and there. Java and C# weren't designed to be goo goo gaga baby nonsense. They were designed to succeed C++ for many purposes because they are more advanced technologies. Having the computer tell you when things are wrong is better than not. We might as well get into a "real man" argument and say that if you write a game in a weak-typed version of C, you're so cool an awesome... no. Use what works best for the job. C# is a modern, elegant language that is well suited for game development and easy to port if the proper libraries are used. And rewriting games in unmanaged languages won't speed them up that much, especially C# to C++. I've read many studies where benchmarks were done and there was hardly a noticeable difference between C# and C++. It really comes down to how well the programmer writes his or her code. Perhaps because you're passing tons of value types around, as opposed to what you'd do in C++... and I have to leave so this post ends abruptly. Read the OP he wants cross platform. C#, is MS based. I suggest you do some research before you try to act like a big dog. C# most certainly is NOT MS based. It is a language. Also the page you referred to is just a .Net adaptation for Linux, which means it's still MS.

That works?!? I'm doing that with my old keyboard. I went and checked back, and it is preferable to do it with distilled water and waiting around 24 hours at the least for it to get dry. And yes, it does work. Something similar happened to me in the past, wasn't a keyboard but still an electronic and was working after doing what I just said.

I've started with structured way to program with C++, then OOP, and I still have classes in C++ in college after a year and a half. College may not be the fastest way to learn, but having a teacher to help you sure is a good thing. We still haven't touched the gui with C++ so we're still in cmd and will be doing some in linux next semester.

C++ is a hell of a lot of learning if you want to do a game with it though. I've had training enough in C++ to tell you that, so be prepared to take over a year to learn what you need to know for a game. Do Flash, it's easier to learn and most of the small 2D games I've seen are on it.

Just let it underwater long enough for the sugar and other things comming from the drink disolve. Then wait at least a full night for it to dry. That's what I'd do if I ever droppe something on my keyboard.

If it doesn't work on 3 computers, then the problem is not the computer you are on. You could try unplugging the router for 20 secs and then replugging it, making it reinitialize. If it still fails, call your ISP as the problem is most likely on their end.

Meh, made an account in Face book to years ago never to come again....Until 6 months ago where I started to see the point of Facebook and visit regularly, which is now everyday. I also made a Twitter accound not too long ago, quite a useful tool for programming if you know the right people to follow.

Adrenal, I agree with Lent when he said high school is a hellhole because it is. Now that I'm in college I'm happy and having a very good experience, which is the oposite of high school, where I had no good experiences.

That's not how it works, the router will switch to the older one, like if a computer is g only and you have a wireless N router, the router will change to g automatically.

I'd say C++ as well, you can do a lot of memory management with it as well which is good when you make games(or so I have heard).

if getting the latest drivers doesn't work, send the card back and get an Nvidia card. I've had so many problems with Ati drivers that even if I have a computer with an Ati card in it, it's the last Ati card I take until I hear they start making better drivers.

You can still get a router and plug it to the one you have with the company, or at least borrow a friend's one to check. I personnally did it when I went to my parent's place becaus the company they're with (Aliant/Bell telecom in NB Canada) is crappy and has a very weak wireless signal and is absolutely to be used to connect to the internet.

laura was just showing you anything you would buy is already obsolete, ember, as you said you wanted something that isn't obsolete and wouldn't be. At the growing rate of computer performances, in 4 months any computer becomes obsolete. The only thing is that it's not obsolete for you if it does all you want, so as long as you get something that will do all you want for a few years, go for it.

I don't know, on my end, the wireless on Vista and Windows 7 has been much better than on XP. I've had much less disconnections than on XP and Vista as well with my Win7 Pro installation.
