  1. Either talented or have a thirty-second spurt of lag. I should know; that's how the KQ got my dragon boots the other day. At any rate, if you die it's all your fault. There's teleportation, the ring of life, and bring in what you are only willing to lose. It's hard to die nowadays with those things around, but even so, the time for your items to remain shouldn't change. You died, you lost them. If you can't get back there fast enough to reclaim them, why complain?
  2. I think you should read the rant before posting. [better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.] Honestly I just report people for offensive language as I deem it fit. That actually is a part of the male anatomy, and of course, is considered to be offensive. I don't give a damn how old you are; you say that in public and you're no less mature than a fourth grader. Just start reporting it. The sooner more people get rid of these immature people (they don't have to be below 13 to be immature!), the better.
  3. As such, 100gp per hide is the cost of not wanting to do it ourselves versus wanting the goods right now. It's been the principle of Western society for the past two centuries now; doesn't matter if we want it ourselves, some of us are just too lazy to do it on our own. Only thing you can do is work for it yourself, but that's dull enough for someone to do; and thus the cycle of having someone else do it for us continues until one of us finally snaps and spends two hours' work doing it on our own.
  4. Let me start from the top: I'm somewhat sorry that you were hacked, but you really should keep your computer security up to the highest levels it can be. Although nothing on the Internet will ever be totally secure, you can at least make it very secure. Anyway, to answer your latest question: .co.jp or .jp are Japanese domain extensions; .fj would actually be in Fiji. (Notice how Japan doesn't have an "f"?) So it's safe to say someone did log in from an ISP in Fiji. Where did you go to get this worm? It's uncommon for a worm to self-propagate unless it came from a "known" source.
  5. Actually, a fury costs even less than that with the Rune Ore + Karamja Gloves method. Since it takes about 232 ores to make a fury with the gloves on, and each ore costing one about 12K, that would make the cost near 2,784,000. This method has been around for ages of course, and it is commonly practiced; I don't think Furies will fall much lower than 3.7M though.
  6. [Off-Topic]: Hybrid2hell, the irony in your post is fantastic. Mind if I siggy it at a later date? On-topic: First of all, they didn't get rid of seaweed. They just changed the places where you could get it. In truth they really didn't change those at all; you could always get seaweed on Entrana and at Piscatoris, and with big net fishing. They just removed the charter shop trade feature, which would've given players a way to get tons of molten glass extremely quick and cheap. Sorry if you're upset about that, but who cares? If you're afraid to bear through a few minutes of gathering seaweed, maybe that's not for you. The battlestaves were moved to Baba Yaga's house, and I hear their stock has been bumped to 20 (didn't have time to check). Sure, battlestaff crafting was always hard, and this doesn't really change any of that. That is, if you asked me. I feel that this was a decent move, to say the least; battlestaff crafting was never meant to be easy, nor was glass crafting meant to be the only method of leveling. My advice to you is to exercise either Entrana or Piscatoris for glass, or not make anymore.
  7. Wow. Didn't realize that you felt so passionately about that. My advice to you is to take it with a grain of salt and move on. Besides, players could get tons of hammers for free from their own or others' Player Owned Houses for a bit more than a couple of years.
  8. I never said they have more security with randoms. I never said anything about how much better RuneScape's security was in comparison to other MMOs. I just can't see how much more secure RuneScape would be if it were downloadable instead of browser-based. A browser-based game has more flexibility in terms of operating systems (all you need is a JVM) as opposed to a game that's written for a specific OS. And even for this game, I honestly do feel they're doing a decent job with bots (not necessarily random events, but more to the tune of mass bans and various trading tweaks). I'm not in the mood to get into a shouting match with you, if you can't prove to me that RuneScape would be better downloadable than it would be on the browser. I don't feel that you have enough experience in the matter to make a decent judgment call, nor do I; that's why I'm just going to leave it in the hands of someone that at least has half a clue: Jagex. Sorry, but if you want to shout at me and what-not, I'm not in the mood to discuss anything further with you. I'll come back when you've cooled down, but that might not be for a long while.
  9. I wanna hit every individual point of this rant so that there is no trace of doubt in your mind. What you're ranting about is so well known that there's only two things we can do about it: fix the problems where we can and place our faith in Jagex to resolve what we cannot. I wanna see some evidence of this. Besides, if Jagex is honestly making money off of them, then why ban them? Why do you think that Jagex is so hellbent on cash instead of player satisfaction? I for one feel that they're doing a fine job with the autoer problem (and believe you me, it goes WAY deeper than any one of us could ever believe). If you don't feel that they're doing such a great job, and you want to quit, the door's right there. Don't let it hit you on the way out, though. The scammers prey on the gullible. If you have to, take an extra sixty seconds to review whatever trade you're involved with and give it some serious consideration, especially if it involves transactions over 5-10M. No one can be held responsible for your own irresponsibility with your valuables but you. You can either accept that fact gladly, or madly; either way you'll need to accept it. I'm also curious, why do so many people think that an IP ban will solve anything? With some broadband/dial-up companies, a simple disconnection and reconnection of your [DSL] modem will reset your IP. So what if that one IP is banned; you can always get a new one. Ever consider reading the official forum rules? They tell you not to post about ways to scam other players! This would propagate more scams into the game, and we don't need that. So how would a forum moderator become one-sided if they were only doing their job? That's to pay for free players. I don't even know how the hell you could rant about this. Either move on or buy members to deal with it. ------ Overall I think you should take a long hiatus from RuneScape and seriously evaluate the way you're looking at things. There's a much bigger picture than the little scrap of paper that you will happy claim holds all of RuneScape's problems. I'm not saying this to be mean or anything, but I think it'd do you and the community a lot of good if you took a week or a month off.
  10. First of all, I'd be more than thrilled to know from you how a downloadable game can make it more secure. Of course there will be some added and hopefully better security blocks, but what good will that do? In the long run, people can and will circumvent said blocks to find a way to do exactly what they're doing now. Don't get your knickers in a twist; I don't think neither you nor I have a better idea of what Jagex should do to prevent autoers. The part about rules is one that's unseen to many of us. What you may believe to be an autotyper may just be someone with extremely fast typing skills. Even if it wasn't, that player would have already been punished by now. I don't think you would believe me, but if we start doubting the system, then it begins to fail. A players' chance to get bargain runes is in a skill called "Runecrafting". Of course, players are too damn lazy to make their own, so they buy them from shops. Well that's not at the fault of Jagex, really; who cares that they can't get cheap runes anymore? They really should just level the skill, as bad/boring/painful as it may be (made slightly less painful by the Ourania Altar). Even at that, the shop prices are selling for higher than what the economy demands of the rune, so don't worry too much about those runes coming into play. Honestly it's the quick fix of runes versus the long and cheaper path, thus you would either buy from players or craft them yourself. At the end of your rant it makes me feel like you're tired of playing RuneScape. Ever consider World of Warcraft? I'm sure they could use your cynicism more than we could. Of course, then Jagex could get tired of you instead...
  11. 1. Ever consider growing your own? 2. Why whine about one part of the update when the rest of it is actually very good? That's pretty low, if you ask me -- finding one thing out of a thousand to argue about. Give me a break.
  12. Your argument is semi-comprehensive, 123Yourgone. However, that ain't the topic we're on about. The topic starter wants responsible Player Moderators. Well, I view Player Mods kind of like the Red Cross -- they're there in an emergency and are more than happy to help, but don't count on them to give you a bandage when you have a minor cut. Honestly, the verbal abuse that this player endured could have easily been ignored. Why put the Mod on the spot by saying "he didn't do his job", when she could have just reported and ignored and been about her way?! Why the hell is it that the Player Moderator must hold someone's hand regarding something as nickel-and-dime as that? Just think about that for a moment. If you had ignored the person, would you been here posting about the same "irresponsible" player moderator? P.S. There is a way to circumvent Player Moderators and their chat. Set your chat filter to "Trade", and you won't see it unless one trades with you.
  13. That's why you put the lens in before going down. ;)
  14. 1. No one said they were fine with rule-breaking whatsoever. It's just that the person who was receiving the abuse could've used the Report + Ignore combination just as well, not drawing the Player Mod into the issue NOR giving them the impression that they can't do their job. 2. Someone who is a voice of authority amongst a crowd of whiny children honestly is a good idea. I usually do feel a bit more comfortable with Player Mods playing the game, or just talking; usually means that the people that are there start acting civil. 3. How do you know the Player Mod was laughing at them in particular? A common mistype would be the talking of clans, which a / is forgotten, or another side-convo was taking place. You just don't know that. 4. Somehow I perceive that use of power to be abusive. The moderator in question might have too, so instead of a huge proxy fight, he did nothing. Thinking outside of those bullet points, think about this for a second. Why is it that someone with a Silver crown must all of a sudden hold everyone's hands with rule breakers and people that do all sorts of bad stuff that could be just as easily resolved with a Report + Ignore? What the hell happened to us where we need that sort of support? Do you remember what we did in Classic? We reported them and ignored them as we saw fit, and went about our day -- there were no Player Moderators back then to help us temporarily mute the person. Strange how most players whine and fuss about updates that hold the less-than-average 'Scaper's hand, but won't hesitate to complain when a Player Mod won't do the same.
  15. A player moderator didn't do their job just because they didn't report the person that was verbally abusing you. That's funny. I didn't know that Player Moderators were there at your every beckon and call. Sure, they do make the game a better place by reporting what they see, but keep in mind that it's still reporting -- while theirs have priority, you can do just the same. A mute in that situation would've been perceived as an abuse of power; if not by Jagex, definitely by someone else that will whine on a forum much like this. Let's take a look at it like this. A Player Moderator is only there to help monitor fair-play in the game, not go around hunting rulebreakers or anything of that sort. They're also not really required to do anything for you; it's that moral clause that people confuse with mandatory work ethic. Don't get so upset with them. They're just normal players like you and me. Making them do something like that at the drop of the hat would make them more prone to quit, you know.
  16. A bit of pseudocode for you. if (level === maturity) { //Imaginary situation echo "RuneScape becomes a better place to play."; } elseif (level !== maturity { //Realistic situation echo "In RuneScape, a high level will never equate to anyone being mature. At all. Ever."; } Honestly, you're trying to debate the fact that a high level should be similar to maturity. It ain't happenin'; I thought that Pest Control would have proven that to most of us. Just realize that in life, there are nice guys and there are jerks, and you can choose to either ignore the bad and accept the good, or complain about one and let it overshadow the others.
  17. I don't think that Tip.it is nearly as sterile as RuneHQ, or I'd have never shown up here to rant my head off. But, I have a way to fix it. First, define "mature" within yourself. Of course, using Merriam-Webster, we find it as having completed natural growth and development. Let me tell you that we don't stop maturing physically until we're 18 (or 20, depending on if you're male or not), and we won't stop maturing mentally. If you think you do, let me know what golden age it is that you can be called a good politician. :P The stereotypical definition of being mature can be perceived as, "generally well-mannered, not one to yell at others, willing to help and/or guide [a player] along the way, or ready to thoroughly or analytically discuss matters [pertaining to in-game content, updates, et. al.] in an open forum. Of course, we'll expect one person in three-hundred to act a damn fool, but does that mean that the place is really all that bad? Sure, it gets worse when it snowballs, but calling them immature is something that one should do with tongue-in-cheek. Name-calling was something we did in grade school. The majority of us are teenagers or young adults (18+) now. My solution to you is to simply take what displays of both random idiocy and immaturity you encounter here with a grain of salt. Sure, those people are acting foolish, but is the entire basket of apples ruined by one rotten one at the very bottom? [Above all, you dare compare said basket with that of RuneHQ's caliber?]
  18. If it's absolutely anything, the hardest challenge for me in RuneScape would be to put up with unfriendly social interaction between two players. "Get out of my chin spot n00b" "118, fre stuf plz?" "Def noob!" "Farcaster!...PJer!...Safer!..." My God, the list goes on and on and on. Sometimes I wish there was some divine intervention between that player and their keyboard...
  19. Nobody told you to bring your Cavalier down there. Invest in a Spiny Helmet, and learn your lesson well.
  20. No. [hide=I hid this on purpose.] Welcome to the community of RuneScape; where a common brother is shunned like a stray dog on the street. Where help is the equivalent of a plague; breath a word of it and prepare to die. How about you go sit in a corner SupportMage; players like you in our community are killing it slowly.[/hide] Seriously, there's no real set way to make a blog. Most blogs nowadays have the set format of: Topic Header Background Progress Bars (usually with dynamic signatures/goal sigs from RuneWeb, RSBandB, et al) Progress images Topic Thank-you references (Optional) Friends/Rival blogs If you have any questions about that, go ahead and PM me. I might have some free time to set up a minimal skeleton for you, just for an example.
  21. 1. It could have been a joke. Don't take it so literal. 2. Player moderators aren't under any real obligation to do their job 24-7. They're essentially volunteering their own free time, but sometimes they need a break and a bit of release too. 3. It can be very hard to find a good Player Moderator since not every Player Moderator can be seen as "good" by more than one person. I could go into a giant spiel into this, but I already have in another thread, so I'll just link to it here at the bottom and leave it at that. ------ http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=693005
  22. Highlanders: Pessimist much? I'm quite lean and healthy for a RS player, and I do play sports on a regular basis. I'd take that post of yours as offensive if I didn't know better, but since I do, I'll leave it at that... On-Topic: Why are you playing through wireless? Sure, it's convenient, but if you don't have [Draft]-N technology (Multiple Input, Multiple Output), then you're bound to have lag or dropped packets. Besides, your new computer doesn't mean much; for all you know it's not the actual computer, but your ISP that could be lagging you. [Out of my own curiosity, I'd appreciate if you went to http://www.speedtest.net and received a quick estimate on your line's speed. PM it to me if you want.] WiFi works at 54MBps. Ethernet goes at 100MBps. If you can, get wired. If the Speedtest above proves your network to be slow (typically 256K or less), then talk to your parents or your ISP directly about getting bumped up to some real broadband.
  23. We carp and carp about how this update makes something look ugly when there's no real point to it. Give it a a few more days and you'll be used to it; give it 2 weeks and you won't care anymore. Is there any reason to complain about how a zero looks instead of going about your business? No. Besides, if you can't accept a little change, perhaps you shouldn't be playing, considering how often this game changes.
  24. Since when was RuneScape ever 13 and up? Oh, you think that just because they put a little warning and a drop-down menu to determine players' true age is going to make the game 13 and up? Get real. And no, blood won't make it teenage; that'd just make it have blood in the game. The only thing that would make this place a true 13 and up area would be to enforce COPPA. This way, Jagex can identify just who is what age. Besides, where's the verifiable proof that Miniclip actually brought this game down? Show me that before you ever complain about Miniclip doing anything.
  25. I don't think any of us could really say where Jagex's priorities lie, because we've all got some sort of bias against it. We could say they're catering to lower levels, or we could say that they're playing favorites with high levels, or we could even say that they're in it for the money. We don't know any of that for certain. Besides, does any one person here know what RuneScape really needs? Any update that gives or suits one person's or a group's need may cause rise to rant (and believe me, many updates that improve a skill or training method have given cause to rants everywhere). My own personal opinion (again, this will be biased because of my relatively high levels) would be to make tweaks to existing content before adding new stuff in. There is no point to an update if you can't improve what you started (this is quite evident with the ZMI; improved what was started quite well).
