  1. So, it is quite apparent to me that you know absolutely nothing of hacking. Bruteforcing would be considered a form of hacking (ever hear of bruteforce hacking?). Planting a keylogger in the form of a Trojan would also be hacking. By the way, you CAN'T play RuneScape through a proxy. I wonder if anyone's ever actually tried to do it besides me? (Boredom, school + firewall = desperate attempts to entertain oneself.) And just in case you didn't know, all the data sent between you and the website before you hit the Java client is unencrypted, too. It's not like runescape.com itself is an HTTPS website. Connect through https://www.runescape.com and you'll get a 404 error, too. EDIT: No. This guy has no idea what he is talking about. He is talking a lot of bullcrap and this topic should be locked asap due to no discussion value. You cant do a brute force at the rs servers externally. If you try do that you get automatically kicked from the server asap. Also, if you cross attack with multiple proxys it would be so slow it would take you decades just to solve a simple "monkey2" password. As a side note, obtaining information through a keylogger or just randomly type passwords into the login screen can hardly be called hacking. In fact, it has nothing to do with it. Finally, someone that has at least some sense on the matter. However, what you described in your last statement would be called a "dictionary attack", and yes that is a form of hacking.
  2. ...Do you remember that you can't connect to RuneScape via a proxy server? It won't even let you get to the Java login page. Of course, this was 3 years ago and I can't find any of my old proxies from back then to work, so I'll have to reconfirm it later. By the way, a bruteforce will figure out Q42DFV43WS before too long. It'll just be more complex than "cabbage".
  3. Honestly that's a rather sickening thing. I don't place any blame on the game itself since it wasn't Jagex's fault that this "relationship" happened; it was the parent's fault for not intervening, getting proactive in their childs' life or drawing the line with the 22 year old roommate. In my opinion, that parent should have the child taken away from her and be barred from ever having children. ...
  4. When I first read this post, I was at a loss for words. You're actually right in most every point you've made; most player seems to be their own little 'island' while attempting to set fire to other players' little 'islands', by hurling childish insults and doing other childish-like things ingame. What's even worse, we turn our backs and even backstab those that we once called "friend", such as item loans gone awry and even "hacking"; doesn't matter if we knew them for 2 years or 2 days anymore. Not to mention that there are more bots in the game than ever before, and they do grow exponentially every single day. I also fear it's getting worse day-by-day. We turn our backs on players almost every day, be it something as minor as advice or help on a quest to something that most find offensive, such as begging. We even discriminate (to an extent) against a player based on their combat level, time spent in-game (both positive and negative), their playing style (the old pure vs. main debate), and their training methods ("Pest Control Products"). It's these kinds of discriminations that prevent the community as a whole from enjoying the true nature of RuneScape...the way that I remember it, anyway. What can we do? Well, we could start telling people to be nicer or even set a certain guideline on how to play the game...which would only cause even more problems. I recall on this forum a post about "Wilderness Etiquette" in which someone tried to set solid rules of engagement for the Wilderness, the only lawless realm in RS. Obviously that didn't pan out well, and if we follow the same route as telling people what to do without any "just cause". We can actually start behaving better ingame. We *have* to improve the way we interact with one another before anything changes. You can lay down all the rules, regulations, gather up as many Player Moderators or Forum Moderators as you want to - doesn't mean that people will listen to them, nor does it implicitly guarantee that the players you've chosen to stand above the rest of the players in terms of a sociable community. I feel that personal change is the only way to sway the crowd. If we don't better ourselves, who are we to tell anyone how to behave? If we don't start helping one another out in this game, it will just progress further and further into oblivion. That, of course, is an extreme case scenario, and at this point in time I don't think that there's another option to it. It's up to each and every one of us to make the change now.
  5. You could correlate this instant gratification without work to driving - you're never going to get your license until you get your permit, and you'll never get your permit until you practice enough with driving. If you think that these skills are boring, YET you paid to play the game, then you probably shouldn't have paid. Go be lazy in some other game.
  6. Should they remove Pest Control? No. Why? First of all, it's a minigame. It's something that's meant to be enjoyed by everyone and get a small stipend of experience while doing it, similar to the other PvP or PvE minigames such as Castle Wars, Fight Pits and Fight Caves. However, this game gave unusually high amounts of experience, and unlike the other minigames above, you could actually level skills without ever touching any aspect of that skill prior to it, i.e. a high level in Magic without the need for a single rune. Removing it would be a pretty damn stupid idea, simply because it's been around for over a year up until this point, and most people still want the full set of Void Knight (which, would be the only reason I ever set foot near PC). The staff for most of us is somewhat of a cool novelty (autocasting Guthix Claws), and I wouldn't mind using my points after gathering the full Void pieces to level up some Smithing or Herblore. If, and only if, you play Pest Control to receive combat experience, you are depriving yourself of the rest of the game. Whatever happened to leveling combat with Slayer? I don't see much anything wrong with leveling combat while at the same time, making much more money and even more potential money. Besides this, who gives a damn about the rioters? If they want to cry that much when something like this comes around, then please dear God let them leave. They have no right to act like spoiled brats in this community, and they certainly don't have a right to clog up normally peaceful servers with their useless "riots". Deleting something just because of riots would be like cutting off your right leg because your left arm said it was ugly. Ain't going to work, ain't going to happen.
  7. I don't use Miscellania to make uber amounts of cash anymore. I figure that the investment in raw resources alone is plenty for me. Besides this, I have a perm buyer for the nests I get, and the flax I sell isn't hard to move product (often times amassing 1-1.5M in one sitting). Another thing is that I can always burn my Maples, which will do far more for me than selling them ever could. I never bothered to sell them to that charter store; to me it seems like I'd be cheating myself out of Magic experience per bow (I usually alch mine). Oh well, if you think this is a crippling blow, I guess then you can shift your product processes to something more profitable like Coal...
  8. Too bad it hasn't passed 239K online since April 15.
  9. I just had to address this - if you're trying to get someone to buy something in those clustered servers, it's not spamming - sure, it's filling up the chat window, but 500 or more people buying and selling things at the same time doesn't constitute as spam, at least in my opinion. As far as this "riot" is concerned, start handing out mutes and perm bans to the kids that think that this will get them anywhere. It's getting out of hand when they whine like this.
  10. I demand that there be mass bans to anyone and everyone that "riots" over an update like this. It'd probably be one major step to making the community a better place. I also don't see why it would take Zezima to break up some riots. Where's Mod Ash when you need him? :D
  11. The community can only occasionally be perceived as "bad". Regardless of the age group, we as humans naturally suck at communicating with more than one person on a friendly basis for sustained periods of time. Even with that said, there are pockets of the community which are/can/will/could possible be made enjoyable, such as lesser-known communities, or communities that don't act so stuffy about the smallest thing. Yes I realize that RuneScape's pretty bad at what it does when it's at its worst (riots?), but it's not hard to look past the pre-pubescent children to see the bright side of things. (Although those immature kids sure do stand in front of the good side of the community like Mount Everest...)
  12. I honestly can't understand as to why anyone's rioting over Pest Control in Falador. From what I've pieced together, they're upset that the rate of experience training at a lower level is not as high as it was, nor will it be until they can cross the gap to the level 100+ boat (at 4 tickets per, even at level 99 you'll be getting around 2K xp a game). Training on Slayer monsters (Dustdevils, Bloodvelds) wasn't as fast experience, but it was more profitable. Now Jagex has righted the wrong that they should have over a year ago. It wasn't meant to make combat cost-effective. Sure, Jagex has no control over the prices of arrows, runes and food, but if you're going to invest a 99 or two in combat on that file, you should have paid something for the supplies. Pest Control eliminated that need to have supplies to train; all you needed was some armor, a half-decent weapon and you were all set to train to your hearts' content. Besides this, the factor of clans does come into play rather massively here. Why should any clan restrict players from playing a minigame (which, is entitled by creation to all players) based on their level? What kind of crap is that? Just because someone wants to get their levels up insanely quick doesn't mean that a lower level should've been left out; doesn't sound all that fair or reasonable to me. Overall, I'm going to leave it like this: find better and more inventive ways to train. Just because Pest Control is "nerfed" doesn't mean that there's not another way to get your levels up. So what if it'll cost tons more time and resources than Pest Control? You've gotta work to earn things.
  13. Multi-leveled Pest Control? I didn't see it coming. However I am actually very glad that they reduced the experience for each game now. This was an update that was at least a year overdue, and it finally came on. If every last rioter, no matter their level or ingame status were banned, then RuneScape would once again become almost halcyonic. :D
  14. A one-time fee, right? So I wouldn't have to pay monthly? Actually I'd do it, if the monthly fee was kept the same. Oh, and don't doubt the power of Java when it comes to graphics - it just takes a bit more processor power/RAM to do it, but it can be done. :)
  15. Well maybe it could be due to an anti-social nature, we don't necessarily know that. We also don't know if there was any lack of motivation to go to school, nor do we know if there was a serious social order wrong with the child. Even though those things are out of a parent's control, I'm sure there would've been no harm in telling him to go to the mall once or twice in a month. Oh, so you're a professional psychiatrist? I didn't know that.
  16. "Hope" ain't parenting, kiddo. Any real parent that gave a damn about their child would cut the internet cable and bash the computer in. I wanna hear what a real parent has to say about this, too. What would they do if their child became addicted to a game (doesn't have to be RuneScape)?
  17. ...Yeah... You don't go around and asking where a drug addict's needle [puncture]points are, do you? Obviously the parents are epic failures. They really do need to get a grip on their son's life. Even if he became violent (according to the article), withdrawal is only natural for those that are addicted. They should have taken better control of the situation. Even if I feel that the parents should not have had the right to reproduce, I seriously do feel sorry for the child and I hope that he can recover. :(
  18. Got a reference link? Even if video games stole her son, what's stopping her from taking a sledgehammer to the computer/console? What's stopping her from grounding her child? What's stopping her from being a parent? I'll probably say more when I read the article, but so far, that's my premonition.
  19. I'm going to have to agree here. What could Dharok's Greataxe do for you that a standard Windows/Mac/XServer cursor couldn't?
  20. So what if people aren't willing to earn their way through society? It's them that falls through the cracks, and becomes a very simple forethought in the minds of 90% of the community. As well as your 80% of people being scammers, beggars or just plain lazy, I don't think that's a very fair representation of the entire community. How long have you been around, honestly?...I can tell you probably now that the number's not nearly as high as 80%...more like 16-19% at a conservative estimate. But then again I don't pay attention to these kinds of things - not so much an interesting topic of choice as an everyday occurrence.
  21. WinKey + R -> charmap Full list of ALT codes which you can use now. Kinda old news really...
  22. Tons of players asking me what my favorite God is, or what the story behind my name is... *sigh* I usually stick to the Debate Club for a reason - a lot more of the discussion to my liking. Typically I can just stray from the RuneScape side of things and move to Off-Topic, not hard; sometimes I'll pop in General to debate with someone. But yeah, some of these topics just aren't as hard-hitting or thought provoking as they used to be. Perhaps everyone here who would actually like to see this salvaged could bring some liveliness to this forum by actually invoking thought in their posts, like this one. :P
  23. Resetting the game would be the current-time equivalent to giving us a new beta to play in, somewhat representative of RuneScape 2. It'd just give us a chance to explore and do newer things with places. I know one thing for certain - it'd give me a break from the daily grind that I do nowadays with fishing. :(
  24. No. If you're not on task, why should you get experience for casting a spell? (It's also not very hard to make Natures/Laws and trade for Deaths, either.)
  25. Does RuneScape need rules? Short answer: Yes. Most every society, be it online or not, has a set of rules; even the people that you know that don't have 'any rules' have a set of guidelines which they follow, some less strict than others. Living without any rules, restrictions or limitations would be devastating to any particular society - say for instance someone did something that was looked down upon (in real life, perhaps, someone would come in your front door nude with a six-pack; in RuneScape, someone would begin to spam "looking for gf press 111"). Without any rules, they could simply get away with that kind of behavior. It wouldn't get any better over time either; it would only progress worse. You have to understand that no life is lived without a set of guidelines or rules. You have to realize that no society is ever formed without rules. Without rules, there is anarchy, and for RuneScape, anarchy is probably the last thing that it needs.
