  1. I can actually see where the topic starter's coming from. In truth, more and more of my friends are starting to treat this like either a full-time job, or some sort of addiction. Back when it was were you weren't paying for it/making the most out of every penny, there was no pressure, no rush for goals, no nothing - it was just a game. Too bad that feeling can't be ported over to Members. Kinda wish it could be though...
  2. Playing RuneScape on the Playstation 3 would be an interesting feat. Not so much interesting that the polygons from the browser look the exact same from within the PS3, but a Java game that could be played from a console would be something interesting. It could potentially take gaming to a whole new market. Oh, besides that, if PS3 uses Linux, then it's compatible with Java. You'd just need to have the right .RPM file to install it. ;) As for the Nintendo Wii, if its built-in browser can one day install/run Java without any problems, playing RuneScape would be 4x as interesting (and twice as healthy), while fishing, mining, or even fighting. I can only imagine the Wiimote flying out of my hand while hitting someone with a whip... I honestly don't have much to say about it coming over to the Xbox360. All I can pray for is that Microsoft doesn't screw it up...
  3. You've never seen anyone over 111? Strange...they usually DO go to freeplay worlds (I know I do on full moons :D). Regardless of whether or not he was a 'good guy', meaning his record was clean, who cares? If he didn't read Rule 7 then he'd deserve to be banned, since each rule is in the Terms of Service that you signed up for...(And by him using the site, he agrees to the Terms of Service, ergo he agrees to abide by the rules.)
  4. I'm a lot more lenient on foreign/non-native speakers of English when it comes to typing and whatnot. Even I've made the occasional 'teh' error when it comes to typing the, and various small errors. I can't forgive it when it's someone that's native of the language...c'mon, at least put some effort into showing us you know the language...
  5. So what? Where is it written that the color of the dragon has anything to do with it? ^ Taken from the RuneScape entry about Smithing the Dragonfire Shield. Since now you're just going over rhetoric, I don't see the point in quibbling with this issue any longer. Someday you'll come to the realization that this entire quibble was pointless.
  6. The shield half was never portrayed as something that was only dropped by the strongest monsters. The visage WAS. ~q still, what people are trying to achieve is getting brutals to drop visages. why? because brutals have alot less def and hp then blacks, so you can kill them alot faster if you dont take the hides up. Brutals arent strong enaugh to drop visages, and jagex was right to not make them drop it. Poppycock. They are NOT a lot faster to kill. More to the point, there are far fewer people who can kill them and it costs MONEY to kill them. I just hallied some brutal greens for fun. Try it, then go see how many people are doing that with blacks. Try camping at the greens ranging without prayer or food like people do at the blacks. ~q Are you still trying to compare Brutal Green Dragons to the Black Dragon? That's like comparing the KBD to a Red Dragon - one of them is obviously going to be harder to beat. Also, at the end of the day, the Brutal Green Dragon is still just a Green Dragon - doesn't matter if that dragon's level 227 or 79, it's still green. You arguing that a Green Dragon (regardless of whether or not it is Brutal) should drop a Visage is similar to arguing that the rarity of 3rd Age armor should be increased. And before you go and tell us that a 227 dragon without a visage drop is a waste of time, consider this: I'd much sooner go to a non-Wilderness place to gather my dragonhides or train than the Wilderness. If you don't like the Brutal Greens, by all means stop going there and think of something else to train on.
  7. Go kill a Black Dragon with adamant bolts and you'll see that it isn't as easy as it looks on paper. Then go kill a Brutal Green Dragon, and you'll realize that it's very easy to kill tons with 500 or so. Black dragons were meant to drop visages. Just because the black dragon and the Brutal Green are the same level does not make them the same dragon.
  8. Green Dragons: * Found in the Wilderness * Very easy to kill * Provides decent experience at mid to mid-high levels (70-95) * Found in the Wilderness (reiterated because that makes them that much more dangerous) * If you don't like the Wild, you're not going to like Green Dragons Brutal Green Dragons: * Found in the Mithril Dragon's Cave (an agility shortcut away from Tree Gnome Stronghold) * Drops two Green Dragonhides instead of one * Uses fire breath and magical attacks, both of which are easily repelled * Surprisingly easy to kill for their level; with the proper equipment you can last easily an hour and a half down there * Outside of the Wilderness, which makes it a "joy" for lower level crafters to gather hides * More hp = more experience = better choice for a "Green Dragon" task * Surprisingly decent drops, some players report Dragon Mediums, and I can attest to the number of decent runes 1. If pures and PKing have proven to us anything, even the KBD himself, then levels don't give an exact implication of how powerful something is. 2. The word "Dragon" should automatically be associated with "Anti-Dragon Shield". In my opinion, halberding dragons admits defeat. 3. So what if you can't safe spot Brutal Greens? Is a level 227 dragon supposed to be 'safe' by any stretch of the imagination? 4. Jagex said themselves that they were older than regular dragons, so they knew a few things. Try to pay attention. 5. This is an anomaly, but one that shouldn't be bothered nearly as much as you think. Stronger/older/wiser NPCs should require more resources and skill to kill them. 6. Immune to poison? C'mon now, these things are so brittle when it comes to Adamant bolts, you won't need it. If you whip them or use any sort of slashing weapon, they're rather brittle in those areas too. 7. I'm not really bothered by no Visage. It's not like I'd expect it from a Green Dragon anyway, regardless of how powerful it is.
  9. Brutal Greens could probably be used in place for Green Dragon tasks. As for the Waterfiends, I have no clue. Immune to poisons, eh? That'd explain why neither emerald bolts(e) nor rune darts(p) were bothering them.
  10. "Could have been a great slayer monster"? Stop thinking with your wallet and start thinking about how it was supposed to be done. There are certain monsters in this game that just won't be worth it to some players, no matter what. That 'saving grace' which you so put it was a bug, meaning it was not intended to be that way. Think about it: How is ice a melee attack? On top of this, with 800 experience per kill (200 x 4), and 200 experience per slayer kill, I think that I'll be sticking to my Wyvern tasks, thank you. Don't wanna do them? That's just one less Granite leg hunter that I have to put up with.
  11. Strictly quoted for truth. Unless this skill's giving me oodles of enjoyable playtime and/or profit ingame, why should I bother getting it past 13M experience? If you have every skill at 99 it's a possibilty, not only for experience, but also for ranks, since you're certain to be in the front page once you hit 200m xp. But some people just enjoy doing that one certain skill. That's admirable. But I [personally] don't have much desire to become an instant attention-magnet to players when I'm trying to sell things in Varrock/Falador/Seers, if you see what I'm getting at.
  12. Don't let your imagination lift you to new and unorthodox heights; you'll be the one that has the furthest distance from Cloud Nine to fall. :S I honestly don't think they'll go higher than Adamantite. *Really*. And that's conservative from my perspective; I don't see the point above Mithril as is.
  13. Strictly quoted for truth. Unless this skill's giving me oodles of enjoyable playtime and/or profit ingame, why should I bother getting it past 13M experience?
  14. I'm going to have to say that a Behind the Scenes is quite bad. Here's why: If you all recall just in April, we had our BTS that announced bracelets and along with Slayer-oriented jewelery. Turns out that this was just a Dragonstone Bracelet which only told you how many you had to go in tens, when it was charged. Of course, people making serious assumptions about what "Slayer Jewelery" were went and bought something like 200-1K Slayer gems, when that wasn't even involved at all. Know what the people who thought they were 'prepared' for this particular update did? They ranted because a certain feature wasn't included that they believed was going to happen. I can recall even another example when Player Owned Houses was announced. I've never seen so many people in the Wilderness gathering tiles/PKing people for tiles... :P One final recollection is when the Farming skill was planned to be released. People bombarded the Master Farmers for a month straight (I'm surprised that Martin can afford that cape!), hoping to get as many seeds to be the first to 99. No one knew that it would be a time-oriented skill, and thus, many were displeased/ranted with it. ------ I hope you can see where I'm going with this. Just because we know the future doesn't necessarily mean it's a good thing. In fact, citing those three examples above, I honestly believe that knowing what will happen this month does us more harm than good.
  15. Not every debate is a rant, and not every rant is a debate. It's time for the Debate Club to have its own solid foundation as a main forum.
  16. Was Dagannoth Rex ever intended to be fought from a safe distance, or a safe place? (C'mon, just getting to the final lair is a pain since you have to go through at least 400 monsters, each with different attacks.)
  17. Wait a second. I thought "nerfing" was when something was weakened to the point of impractical use, i.e. a Nerf Bat (or the Barrelchest Anchor). In that connotation, Fight Caves hasn't been nerfed. But no, I haven't done Fight Caves again (I have my cape and I'm not planning on losing it).
  18. It actually is a true article. I remember a few hotblooded rants here on these forums where I would actually sit up and say, "Regardless of whether or not they're pixels, I earned 'em, dammit." A good read, and I hope that everyone else can see the truth behind it.
  19. Undercover moderators, eh? I don't like that idea since it could only lead to more gullible and legit players thinking that Jagex mods are actually undercover. This would lead to a series of unpleasant events that are just not worth the headache. The easy thing to remember about programs such as autominers and bots are that they are indeed viruses, but the thing you need not worry about is such. To add the department that would actually only consist of decompiling autoers and adding blocks to them sounds honestly like it would be too costly.
  20. I've read through (or at least attempted to read through) all of the suggestions to date in this thread, and it seems that they follow the same schema of random event, skill requirement, random event. Unfortunately, these effects would also be global us all players, and I don't know about you, but I'm really tired of seeing the Sandwich Lady. If they don't make her an attackable NPC then I don't want to see her ever again. I digress. I propose a handful of suggestions that could potentially bring a stop to autoers globally. The first suggestion comes as a major stave off in regards to Members, with its own set of bonuses and caveats: Impose an ingame requirement of either total time ingame (either 40-160 hours or 30 days ingame) or total level skill (200-450), before being granted permission to join members. Pros: [*:381j0q9d]Right off the bat, numerous level 3s would not be permitted to collect the bulk of members' resources due to them not immediately meeting the requirement of becoming a member. Cons: [*:381j0q9d]This could very well hamper skill pures to the degree of not even being able to come over to members. [*:381j0q9d]It could also hamper pures from other players (with higher leveled accounts) from granting their pures membership. [*:381j0q9d]Legitimate level 3 players or players that don't feel like dealing with freeplay would be left in the dust. [*:381j0q9d]Major revenue drop for Jagex, they'd be less inclined to consider this. Realizing that the above suggestion wouldn't be a quick fix (more like a matter that would be fiercely debated within the Rants sections of the RSOF and what-not), but it could very well be a solution without having to add new randoms. The next suggestion is this: Place extra quest requirements in certain resource-gathering areas of freeplay to reduce their accessibility. Pros: [*:381j0q9d]A sharp drop in certain resource gathering spots would be noted, i.e. Yews, Lobsters, etc. Cons: [*:381j0q9d]Wouldn't truly affect Runecrafting due to a quest requirement already in place. Certain skillers on freeplay would also notice a limit of gathering resources as well, and that could very well be a con. My final suggestion is aimed strictly at mining: Require an equivalent smithing level to mine a particular rock (when you can smith Steel, would also be when you could mine Coal), OR require at least that Knights' Sword and Doric's Quest be completed to mine coal and above. For Runecrafting, impose a certain Runecrafting level to be permitted to mine essence at (for instance, permit only enough essence to be mined to level to a certain point on freeplay) This level cap would increase as time passed. Pros: [*:381j0q9d]It would force players to have the skill of working with the material that they are actually harvesting. Cons: [*:381j0q9d]May hinder legitimate players from leveling Smithing in an effective manner. Well there you have it. I don't think that these suggestions would be a quick fix, nor do I think that it could be done at the drop of the hat. What others must also realize is that this 'battle' against autoers is not nearly as clairvoyant as it seems on the surface; there are many needless levels of complication, legal issues and socio-economical barriers that must be overcome (there IS a reason that people in 3rd world countries do this...it's to put food on the table).
  21. "Regardless of what you think or what happens to you while you play, remember that it's just a game, Makoto."
  22. I'm not against pures as a character or way to play this game, I'm against the ideology of combat-based pures. I have a couple of pures, one of which is a ranger, the other is a warrior. Whenever my main account runs out of membership, or I just don't feel like training a skill, I usually hop onto one of these accounts to take out some frustration. My melee pure is a "black-armor" pure, but every time I start fighting I hear 'def noob' insults hurled at me. Also, the abject way that I PK is insulted as well, being considered a "safer". So what if I don't want to be K.Oed out there? Amongst other things, there are pures which are dishonest. Some that I converse with in either Varrock or Edgeville wild have openly admitted to drop trading and I've reported them as such. The pures that are members (mine are not and I don't ever plan on them becoming any) are probably twice as worse since now they have access to the forums and members' updates. On top of this, they complain when Jagex is anti-pure -- in other words, an update that either applies to non-pures, or one that makes combat slightly harder. Sorry for rambling, but the overall point is that I'm not anti-pure, but I sure as hell do hate their ideology.
  23. I'm actually glad I got my cape this passed Sunday, then. Dealing with a diagonal attacking TzTok-Jad would've been unpleasant. I don't honestly think that it'll be harder for the higher levels and those with defense, like muggi said, it'd be the pures that suffer.
  24. I have absolutely no reason to race another one of my friends if I'm only meant to be having fun while playing. I'll get it in my own time, they'll get it either at their own pace or probably four times normal human speed. Short answer: By your criteria, I am not a competitive person.
  25. While you're right about the Dragonfire Shield now becoming the best shield in the game (fully charged), you forgot to weigh a few more things. 1. 3rd Age kiteshields are extensively rare to come across; considering that you have a 1 in 10,000 chance of acquiring one from a clue scroll. 2. Dragon Left Halves are just as rare as 3rd Age in many cases, except that the monsters that are being actively slain take significantly less effort than a clue scroll to acquire. 3. Ten thousands of players (if not hundreds) are clamoring more and more to acquire a Visage, since it requires practically the same effort as slaying an Iron, Steel, or (King) Black Dragon, as opposed to going through 10,000 scrolls for a 1% chance at one. Overall, 3rd Age won't take a hit since it's obscenely rare. Just because something better in the game comes out doesn't affect all lower armor prices; look at Dragon Chain vs. Barrows Armor! :P
