  1. he already said it, to get the new tunes. Sorry about that. I missed that part of it. Note to self: Skimming through posts while distracted is a bad idea.
  2. This training spot for freeplayers isn't necessarily a good one; Ice Warriors are probably better by far. Besides that, if you're not doing the quest, why'd you go there anyway?
  3. There are certain cases that I would have said "don't ban", but that was in a time long forgotten. In retrospect, it's a risk for that 126 to auto. A huge risk because they'd be throwing away hours if not months or even years of hard and legitimate work for what, an easier way to fish or mine? I say ban the infidel. If they throw away their hours online for a simple auto, why should I show them any sympathy?
  4. if I were you I'd sell it instead :P I honestly find hitting a 29-34 no spec on a flagholder more enjoyable than any amount of GP, by far. Besides that, I'm going back after I finish the rest of my wild pies. :D
  5. As taken from RuneWeb from my achievements thread: Just goes to prove you can get it without 90 Slayer, and Jagex should have at the very least introduced a new attack to lower players' slayer levels. Oh well... /me runs to CW
  6. I'm not about to read through seven pages of what probably has already been said, but: Stop it. Please, just stop. I wonder how someone who thinks that "abuse" of a dog is something of shooing them away; you can do the exact same with your cat! On top of this, there are various amounts of "abuse" which go on ingame which are pretty much our daily routine: * Killing other men/women (guards, soldiers, players, etc.) * Thieving from NPCs * Hunting various animals for skins and profit * Pseudo-hunting (not regarding the skill) such as Dragons, Dagannoth, Kalphite Queen, etc. If you feel like shooing a dog is abusive and none of the above are, then what are you doing playing?
  7. It'd probably be a physical impossibility to "crash" the market, unless every single rare that was tradeable was made untradeable. Smaller items, such as 3rd Age, Treasure Trail items, Dragon armor, Barrows armor, and raw materials only have a minor overall effect on the economy, and unless everyone was buying every last one of these items in bulk and no one selling, the economy would survive.
  8. This update's actually rather fun. It's usually quite interesting to find out about the history of the game itself, and I believe that this update in particular was worth the wait. It's always a pleasure to see that they're improving the game with what resources they have. A little enlightenment, if you will: You state that out of the entire population, only 2% of the entire game feel that graphics are important. Here's where you're wrong: All the numbers add up to about 55,005. Now, we know that RuneScape has roughly 1 million members, yet only 55K of them participated actively in this particular poll. The poll which you proclaim is the holy grail of all updates only represents an unsurprising 5% of the community. Either get your facts straight or find a new arguing point. Besides that, this update wasn't done in just 'two weeks'. As early as the 29th of August, we received word that Varrock would be updated. Go check the news archives if you want to; but from us knowing about it from 29 August to 29 May covers about nine months. A big update needed a fair chunk of time to test it, so I'm sure that's why an update week was skipped. Looks like that "concrete proof" of yours just turned to dust. Do your homework and enjoy the new Varrock -- it's actually rather nice.
  9. Summoning's been coming since the dawn of RS2. I don't think that Evil Dave could reinforce that belief any more than it is. Just sit tight and prepare to be amazed.
  10. A few random thoughts, I can't really be bothered to read through four pages of posts since the title alone provoked this reply. I'm starting to realize that there seems to be little difference between an accidental surge of experience and a "nerf"; this happens to be the former. This spell could be cast multiple times per second, and result in 1-2M experience/hr if left untamed. Since all other leveling methods of Magic aren't nearly that fast, why should this one be all of a sudden? It also seems that a lot of people are upset that this bug is fixed. Would you rather have things done the easy and no effort way, or would you rather the honest and time-consuming way? Any honest 'Scaper should take the second choice. I think I'll leave it at this.
  11. If you consider this an "invasion of privacy", wait until you see the Highscores. They've got EVERYONE in there. And it's available for everyone to access, too; all you have to do is type in their name! I honestly don't feel that it's an invasion of privacy of any sort. You can access player info via the Highscores (and you'd only have to guess about if they were using prayer or had potions); now you don't really have to. Besides that, it's just a fun skill to use if you want to get someone's attention. :P
  12. Well, let me ask you a question: Have you done this quest yet? Even back in the good ol' days, I thought that a level 75 could do every single quest. In fact I frequently reassured myself of this because Jagex never imposed a strict combat level requirement on any of the quests they produced. (Contact doesn't count since that's only an advantage, and not really much of one at that.) First of all, this quest is hard. Even for a 117 like myself, with stats like the way that I have. Those three fears are comparable to fighting the Chaos Elemental (since you can't pray against it anyway) solo, and not many level 75s would do that, unless they're fearless, gutsy or just plain suicidal. Besides that, imposing this combat requirement isn't really all that much different from imposing skill requirements -- instead of three, four or even five separate requirements for this quest, one simple level 85 combat requirement was placed. And for good reason -- those monsters don't joke around. It's not that Jagex is trying to discriminate on lower levels (and no, I don't have that "holier-than-thou" attitude when it comes to level; all it means is that I've played slightly longer), they're trying to seriously make sure that people who can't do this quest don't go losing things they can't replace. (I'd have lost my Dragon Square and Whip had I died in there.) I say that it's a fine restriction to place, and there's absolutely no bother in someone who aspires to be an ultimate quester to raise their combat level to that of a mid-level player. If someone refuses to get their combat to 85 or higher to do this quest, and then goes to complain about it, I don't feel that they deserve anything more than what they would get had they decided not to start the quest in the first place.
  13. It's not very hard to tell if someone's sharing an account or not if you've known the person for quite some time. You'll come to realize that the way they talk to you has changed (either you're used to them talking to you with text talk or not), or that their demeanor towards you has changed, or even that they forgot something rather important to the both of you, like a KBD trip. Don't tell me that it cuts down on inhuman playing time, either. Six people taking up six-hour shifts on an account could also be considered 'inhuman', since that'd be the first player to actually accumulate 24 hours playtime in just one day. That's unhealthy, and Jagex would be sure to pick up on that, too. It also doesn't matter if your family shares this account with you or not. If you were on the job, and you had been trained well, would you bring your cousin or sister who's never seen what you're working on before, and say "Take over for me" when you take a 45-minute break? No... Also, don't go comparing World of Warcraft to RuneScape -- they're worlds' apart, in their own interpretation of rules, gameplay and community. What's acceptable for us might be taboo for them, and vice-versa. I'll just leave it at that. Base line of this entire thing is that Rule 6 is there for a few reasons: - To stem overaddictive gameplay by reducing online time for one person at a time - To reduce the likelihood of an account being robbed of its items (sorry, but this wouldn't be hacking; in all reality you gave them your password, so it'd probably be the same as you just dropping everything at once or giving it to someone else) - To ensure that one account = one person. Probably for accurate demographics. Sorry, but I say that Rule 6 stays. Don't like it? Dunno what to tell you.
  14. It's always a positive thing to see Jagex do the right thing and make one more step towards making the game community a better place. But, from what I believe... I've seen anywhere from 10 to 1,000 bots in a single week. Frequently I've also seen 50 bots in one special fishing place. This is on a members' server, as well; I'd hate to see what it's like on a freeplay server. I don't know if everything that Jagex could be doing is going to stop autoers dead in their tracks. Perhaps, but only perhaps, a level requirement to upgrade to Members would make the process much less painful, but then again I wouldn't be certain. As usual, this article is a good read.
  15. I actually was around for that duping scandal, and I didn't realize what happened to the person who had that 'reward' after all this time. I had figured that they were banned by some other means, but banned on the spot? That's entrapment, if you ask me. I've seen pictures of banks with 200 of those hats and crackers out there, still. Most of these have been within the last year. So that goes to reinforce what was said -- they couldn't trace the duplicated items. Doesn't mean that they won't go unpunished though -- within 2 days of me seeing that screenie, they were banned. (No, I don't have rares. I don't think I ever will, either.)
  16. Yes, updates should be geared for the more veteran players. It's bad enough trying to get a 99 in a skill which takes time to level (i.e. Mining OR Smithing OR Firemaking OR Fishing), and when you get there, there's nothing to gain from it; not even a speed boost. Don't mind the signature either; I plan to get two of those four in 99 that I listed. Not the easy ones, and not the easy way, either.
  17. I honestly don't pay just for a skill cape, you know. That'd be really pointless. Giving them a skill cape without trim would be quite handy, and I'd only somewhat agree with the stat reductions that someone else suggested.
  18. Should Jagex put some effort into generating a list of websites that are known to be bad, or should the user simply exercise common sense? Personally, I think that common sense should be used. And don't get paranoid -- just because a site has Google ads doesn't mean it's corrupt...it just means that they haven't worked on banning those types of ads.
  19. While I think that this update is a positive one, I don't think that the reaction will be positive to the people that are forced to work in these kinds of conditions for several weeks. I believe it'll foster in a new era of hatred and detest for those players with Chinese or Korean backgrounds. So if you're going to insult someone, insult Google for even thinking about putting those ads up. Since Google does it, no other fansite has real control over it. (I'm American, btw. I just happen to have friends from those areas...)
  20. If you have the diamonds in the bank and the bars, why not save yourself a glory? If you think about it, if you were PKing in the abyss, you're attacking people who are practically undefended and have almost nothing of value, save for a Glory amulet. You could waste anywhere from 30-80K just getting that amulet (food, potions, runes, arrows, etc), and it's only worth 60K. Now, if you were going to really PK, then you could rake in anything from 120-5M if you went higher up (from full Rune to Barrows armor, and yes people actually PK in Veracs sometimes). Besides that, Abyss PKing is absolutely worthless. Perhaps now these people will flow to better places such as Mage Bank instead of attacking someone defenseless.
  21. Running a teleport loop from Crafting Guild to Legends OR Warriors' isn't a bad theory; faster mining and quicker access to clay, gold, silver and a tanner. Don't even bother saying "it's pointless" since it's not implemented yet. That's kind of pessimistic...you don't know if it could be really beneficial or not yet. Besides that, how does anyone know if this is the ruby amulet? It could be the diamond, dragonstone, onyx or even sapphire.
  22. Most of the backlash from Jagex's "handholding" of newer users comes from the fact that the older players never received any sort of help in this tense. You were thrust (somewhat violently) into the game, you had to scrape enough to do whatever it is you wanted, and if you didn't make it that was too bad. Nowadays, things are much simpler and easier for the new players to find and follow, and in many cases people feel somewhat upset that we didn't get the same treatment. And yes, sometimes I felt like they were spoiling the newer generation of gamers instead of paying attention to the older ones. I don't anymore. So what if they're "holding the newbie's hand"? These kinds of updates are good for the community. They put a damper on the fools that think that scamming someone out of accounts, passwords, and items is okay. Their removal from the community is something that has been long overdue, and now we're getting it at long last. (By the way, complaining is inevitable from the community. I wonder what would happen if we went back to 1 update/month...)
  23. I'm sorry, but simply because you don't agree with the article does not mean it's biased. It means that you don't agree with the author's opinion. He has an opnion, and so do you. Which one is correct? Both and neither. That's why they're called opinions. And if you feel that strongly about it, then why don't you write that article and submit it for publication? Remember, one of the Times' goals is to stimulate debate and discussion -- and this week, it certainly has. Mission accomplished. My rather silly (and inflammatory, I realize that) comments aside: If it were a non biased article it would look at the point from more then just one point of view. The same would go for an article for only honorable pking. It looks at an issue from one point of view, the author's opinion, does not consider the opposing point of view, which is a widely accepted opinion as well. It also attacks the opposing opinion in quite inflammatory ways. So yes, I would say that it is a biased article. Just to make a point, the same would go for an article written by a pker detailing why Honor Pking is better and all the other people just aren't good enough to honor pk. If you insist, I will submit an article sometime this year; although I don't think that I'm the best qualified to write an answering article to this, and I'm sure there are many who are both better qualified and more eager to have their opinions heard. That way there can be two equally biased articles counterbalancing each other, instead of a biased article and a lackluster leaning article, which wouldn't satisfy the honor pking community at all. Perhaps an article on Role Play, the two elusive letters in MMORPG however, which I would be much better qualified to write as far as experience with things goes. Other then that, as long as every tip it times article is as one sided and inflammatory as this one, advocating actions that a decently sized group of Runescape's population dislikes, and then insulting that same group (last two paragraphs), then there will be plenty of debate, although I'm not sure all of it will be civil. Well there's another opinion/biased point: You believe that honor pking is better, whereas PKing in the Wilderness with whatever resources you can, however you can, and whenever you can is a cardinal sin and a mark of dishonor. It's an opinion, you're entitled to disagree, but don't say that it's entirely biased. I for one don't pay attention to "honor" PKing since that's not what it was ever about. Is my opinion biased? By the by, since I'm going to go by the text here, I don't see anything on Runescape.com about PKing with honor, nor do I see anything that says that you have to not do certain things. These are private taboos which (seemingly) have gone out of hand. [Rhetoric] If I have ancients and I want you to freeze, I'm going to freeze you whether you be eight or two squares away. If I have prayer I'm going to use it against you. If I have potions I don't want to hesitate in using those to counter your abilities either, and if I have food I'll eat it when I please. [/Rhetoric]
  24. Well this article is a pretty nice read. Let me go ahead and express my points to it (although it's been echoed thoroughly throughout this entire thread): If you go into the Wilderness, expect things to happen. You can expect to be teleblocked, bound, frozen from someone that's possibly off-screen. You can expect to be hit a double-33 from a DDS special. You can even expect someone to teleport, pray, eat (even when you see no real reason to), and run like hell to safety. If you don't like it, you don't have to go across the ditch to go PKing anymore. The Wilderness is neither organized nor a massive dramatization of anything structured, such as Duel Arena. The article said it best: ANYTHING goes. I don't PK anymore; I was formerly a member of BlacKnights and didn't really enjoy PKing back then either. I didn't like the way that the rule structures flowed; if I was going into the Wilderness I sure would use every advantage to my benefit. I wouldn't care what my reputation would look like; I'm not going to be bound to someone's silly rules of engagement. For those of you that can't see the Wilderness for a no-holds-barred zone of engagement, then you really shouldn't be in the Wilderness. The Duel Arena's more suited to your style of playing and mentality.
