0's look horrible!
You're complaining about how the zero looks? I mean, I can justify complaining about in-game content if it destroyed/undermined another update or training method, but complaining about zeros? The hell kind of complaint is that? It honestly does more good than harm, if you ask me. Besides, it made sense; they updated the zeros in the usernames a while back, so why not on other numerical values? Just be glad you weren't brought up with a Linux machine in the house; you'd have gone INSANE with the way those zeros were drawn.

Farcasters and Safers
Put on Protect from Magic and have your dagger at the ready. Adaptable, no? Right, so I'm supposed to actually give a damn about that honor code in the wilderness? If it's kill or be killed, honor goes clean out the window. Except in a deathmatch; sorry, but even if I don't go to the Wild, a deathmatch means to the death. I won't really chase you if you run, but I'll never hold you in any sort of regard if you had just stayed and taken your beating like a man. [Aside] Oh, so using the abilities afforded to you by your level (or the nature of the game) is sad? So you mean to tell me that if I used my Armadyl Special to hit you for a 79, thus KOing you, while having on Piety and being full potted, is sad? I'm sorry, but what I think is more sad is that you're arguing semantics. No one cares about the rules of engagement in the Wilderness. If you want to complain about it that much, then just don't PK. Don't engage in player versus player combat. The less whiners in the world there are, the better. What's so smart about PKing someone in low enough level Wilderness so that they can teleport away? What's so smart about not understanding that there is always a chance you will lose money? ------ By the way, I think Outsanity was referring to deathmatches; not smart to run away from a fight that you agreed to fight to the death.

Jad Fucking healing himself????
From what I always remember, you kill the healers before you kill Jad. Doesn't matter if they're on you or not, I don't believe.

Am I Finished With RuneScape?
It happens to the best of us. I know I get the same feeling -- get members for three months, spend easily a month on some other game. It's not like you're finished with the game -- you just play it a lot more casually. Some people would view that as a good thing, and I for one do.

The Future of Runescape
The way I look at it, RuneScape is either at its zenith or at its second Renaissance. The zenith comes in when you are right - there hasn't been much more than 230K players on at one given time (compare this to a bit of a year ago when 200K was something unprecedented, or two years ago, when 100K was a milestone). Its growth is only stimulated by the opinions that everyone seems to have plenty of (read: Rants forum), and until key issues such as macroing and real-world trades are resolved, we might see a serious dip in activity come 2008. It might not hurt to shut the boards down once in a while when a group of people disagree adamantly with an update, and feel the need to spam it all across the world (SS, Pest Control, et al). The second Renaissance comes because members sit in a very good spot - levels are becoming worthwhile to get, challenging quests and minigames are coming out, high level updates are coming out (well, towards the end of this year anyway), and there is some incentive to keep playing the game. Of course, every now and then, a change of atmosphere is in order...

Farcasters and Safers
I agree with this topic; farcasters and safers just don't exist. I also laugh hard at the players that think they do. Let me tell you how I see it. In the Wilderness, it's kill or be killed. That's really the only rule that exists out there. When you're PKing, do you want to wait until you're near death to heal yourself, or do you want to heal yourself immediately? I'm sure that a PKer's view would differ, but since I only do it every so often on my pures, I like to keep my health nice and high while dwindling theirs. I get PKs on my pure. A lot of them. Doesn't matter what you call them, eater, safer, farcaster, that's just more time spent with your hands on the keyboard instead of over that lobster that could save your bacon. This brings to question some of the rules of engagement that RuneScape hasn't really had since before the beginning. Is it fair to cast a spell so your opponent can't attack you? Hell yes. Is it fair to eat in a fight so that you have more health than your opponent? Hell yes. Is it sportsmanlike to call someone a safer, noob, teletubby, or farcaster when you lose? Hell no. What's next, are you going to take away the right for me to use my mouse? Are you going to tell me I can't use a scimitar/2H/Whip/DDS in a duel? You going to say that I can't run away when I'm only doing a clue scroll? Go soak your head. The only rule of engagement I'll ever accept in the Wilderness is simply kill or be killed. I'm going to do all my best up there to either kill you [on my pure] or stay alive [on my main]; you'd damn well better be doing your best to kill me instead of focusing on your imaginary rules.

Drastic Measure To End Macroers/Gold Farmers
Your idea sounds logical, but it's extremely drastic. Drastic enough to critically wound [but not destroy] the economy as we know it. In effect, the idea is extremely logical. It would really cut everything off at the root, since most players buy resources to use on members anyway. Everything and anything that can be harvested by freeplayers could not be traded to a member. There's one drawback to this. Most every member that's needed some kind of raw good in bulk (from ore to essence) has traded at least once with a freeplayer. Members would be starved from the resources that they need/require for a level, whether it's for bragging rights or to do a quest. I also can't see any concrete evidence that members will begin mining their own coal or cutting their own yews en masse, because [and this may be a shocker] we're lazy. No one wants to spend a few weeks gathering their own stuff for their levels, and it's really getting to the point where there's little incentive to. Time is valuable, especially to the adults that play this for leisure, so why would they want to burn what time they have gathering hundreds of thousands of resources just to advance a few levels? What good is demand if there's very few people willing to meet it?

Arrow Thieves
There is no such thing as an "arrow thief". It isn't like they're taking the arrows out of your quiver for themselves, now is it? Let me draw a parallel so you can see where I'm coming from. Let's imagine, for the sake of argument, that a ballistic weapon known as the "Party-Hat Launcher" comes into the game. Of course, its ammo is a partyhat. It hits high enough to justify using it. Now, after a minute or so goes by of you attacking that Black dragon and the partyhats start appearing on the floor. No one asks questions or says "they're his partyhats", they just run right over and pick 'em up. Same logic applies to arrows; once they are fired they are no longer your property. If you don't like it, fight something you can kill in less than a minute.

God Sword tradable?
All lamentations about "ruining" this and that aside, let me ask you a question in a direct answer to your question: If I had to bust my tail to get an incredibly rare sword (hilt not included), then bust my tail even harder to kill the bosses for a chance at the hilt, why should I not have the right to trade the sword and/or hilt in to offset my expenditures?

How jagex should have selected player mods.
Let this be my last post on the matter, and the most concise/drawn out of them all up to this point. Perhaps I'll come back when you learn not to flame other people for expressing their opinion...? Overall, your idea relies on the theory that high level players and/or players that are well-respected and known in the community are willing to do the job in the first place, and that they know at least two other people that are both willing and capable of doing the job. You also assume that the current system is at fault since you don't believe a level 50 to be able to levy justice in-game, and you only feel that someone of high combat and stature is only worthy of the crown. Let me tell you this -- your concept is wrong. Being a player moderator doesn't just mean replying to bot attacks and dealing with spammers (you're not under any real obligation to do so, which is quite the oxymoron), it also means keeping a level head when dealing with powers such as muting and priority reports. Being popular, well-known, or high level has absolutely nothing to do with it. If you can't see that then perhaps you need to take off those rose-colored glasses and take this with a grain of salt. Also, you should know by now that being a high level or having a high skill can take as little as eight months. I met a level 126 the other day that only played for less than a year, and his non-combat stats are impressively high. (Coincidentally, he is a player moderator.) He's only played for eight months, yet he's a level 126. I've played for about five years, and I'm only level 118 with relatively high non-combat stats. Does that make me any less eligible than the 126? I wouldn't believe that it does. Now, let's go around the room for a bit of quote responses! Do you know how many "micro communities" there are of RuneScape? I can count about seven off the top of my head, including Tip.it -- in no particular order, Zybez, Sal's Realm, Runevillage, RuneWeb, RuneScape Bits and Bytes, and RuneHQ. There's countless others out there as well, some smaller than others, some that are a fairly decent size. Out of all of those communities, I doubt that someone that's "mature and respected by the Tip.it community" would be respected (or even known for that matter) at another community. Out of roughly four million people, I highly doubt that those three people would be known or respected by everyone, and I doubt that everyone would want them as a Player Moderator until they knew that they were capable of doing the job. And no, there's no way that those three people can get to know four million others, earn their respect, and then push for modship. While I can't see them nominating wrong people because it's funny, I can see them nominating the "wrong" people in the subjective eye of the community. You have to bear in mind that player mods aren't out to serve just you, they're out to serve the entire community, to establish some justice in-game. Besides that, you can't just up and tell me that Leesters or Oddfaery is mature and I've never met them; that's highly subjective to the beholder. You may see them as mature, I may not. Please do not forget that concept. In RuneScape, the higher you go, [ironically] the less you'll have to do. Killing stuff or people gets boring after a few thousand times. Aside from that, many high level (and well respected!) players quit every single day, doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, either. If you want proof, you don't have to even look far on the Tip.it forums. Again you go back to the debacle of mature players. Get it through your mind that maturity is, was, and always will be until the end of time, subjective to the beholder. Besides, would a mature person really need to have references about their maturity? Sounds kind of lame, if you ask me. One more thing -- you wouldn't know what those black marks were for; they could be legacy punishments, or something nickel-and-dime, warranting 2 or less black marks. If they've learned their lesson and reformed, then maybe they're a little bit wiser. Don't you think that someone who's been punished might grow a bit? And of course Jagex takes those black marks into account. If they see that the user did it and it wasn't a very good thing, then they won't get promoted (such as drop trading or even advertising a site). 1. I seriously doubt that you know what a good moderator is. In your view it's a high level that's popular with lots of online time and experience; in my view it's someone that's capable of levying justice and keeping the game a safe place for us all, no matter their level or experience in-game. 2. Both a high and a low level player mod have the exact same thing to lose (which is huge): credibility. If a high level abuses his powers, he has his credibility to lose, meaning you can't really trust him with power or any authority over anything. If a low level abuses his powers, he will lose his credibility in the future for when he does become a high level. You can't dismiss someone just because they're low level, and you can't look at only numbers to see if they can do the job. ------ The day you lose your grudge against that player moderator which sparked this entire debate will be the day you grow up, if only a little bit. I'll wait patiently for that day; until then, have fun with your rant.

Is scamming scammers acceptable?
Actually that may be considered as self defence. I guess to determine that we need more information... Did the shooting back happen directly after they shot at you or was it after some recovery? Off-topic: After four months' rehabilitation. On-topic: I maintain the statement, "Give an eye for an eye, a tooth for the tooth, and the world will be blind and toothless." There will never be any good that comes out of scamming the scammer. You're just as likely to be put in trouble as they are, and Jagex is far firmer with their rules than a jury [of your RuneScape peers] would be.
-
Is scamming scammers acceptable?
Since when did you become judge, jury and executioner? There's no point to scamming another person, even if they did to you. What good will come if everyone did the exact same thing to whoever wronged them? Example (WARNING: This example will go off-topic): If you're shot at twice, and you survive, does it make it right to shoot the person that shot you twice and possibly kill them? Yes it is. Well damn the rules of RuneScape, damn the consequences, damn the morality level, and damn the person that scammed you -- you'll do it anyway. That is quite a foolish way to live in any society, and a foolish way to distribute justice. You can't have justice if every person decides to take the law [of RuneScape] into their own hands and judge everyone that wronged them.

How jagex should have selected player mods.
Okay, I'll admit that I was remiss; but I didn't see that on this topic. Of course, I'm not going to pull up dirt from another topic. At any rate, how do you know he hasn't turned over a new leaf? How do you know he hasn't reformed?

How jagex should have selected player mods.
Your the exact kind of person this rant is about, low lvl player mod that doesnt deserve the position, how many black marks did your previous account have 212.1?. Great choice jagex, give p modship to the guy who has the all time black mark record. 1. Based on levels alone, you cannot say that someone does or does not deserve modship. Seriously, this has been said countless times and may have to be said countless more. So what if Bac_Talan has less than the overall total/combat level than you expected? That doesn't make him any less worthy of moderation than you or I, if we only looked at total levels. Oh, and if we did just look at total level, we'd be oblivious to the rest of that person. 2. No one, not even Bac, said that he had another account. I don't even see where it's implied that he has black marks. You're pulling stuff out of thin air and trying to throw that in his face. Honestly, grow up. ------ Doesn't seem like many people agree with the friend recommendation schema, and I don't blame them for it either. What's the point of a moderation system if only your friends were allowed to get in? And even if such a system came about, you can't prove [to me] beyond a shadow of a doubt that each friend on that player moderator's friendlist would be mature, responsible and capable of the job.

combat is that all new players want to do?
If all they want to do is combat, who cares? Sure, they're depriving themselves of virtually every other aspect of the game, but if that's how they want to play it, that's up to them.

Is scamming scammers acceptable?
Give "an eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth", and the world will be blind and toothless. Just because he did it to you doesn't make it right for you to do the same to him.

God Wars Dungeon Player Score (91.3% ¢¢â¬â²0.84)
98/100, Combat 118. There's a ton of things that could have happened with the GWD, but since my expectations aren't what really happened, I'll go off of what I saw. 1. The areas in which you fight all monsters and their respective chambers are fantastic. I feel that Jagex did a very good job on adding as much variety to the NPCs in the cavern. The loot is surprisingly incredible from anything lower than 140 Combat, but that's covered in my second point. 2. The loot is fantastic. Even Dragon boots can be pilfered to make a quick 6-800K. This helps if I ever need the cash. Fighting Aviansie all day yesterday (and the bosses) made me realize that they drop Adamant Bars very often. This helps a ton if I ever need to make more bolts, or swap for bolts, or anything of that matter. Even with just a regular bow (read: Dark Bow), I could sit back all day if I needed to and have a decent cache of Adamant bars to tackle the boss with. 3. The bosses are absolutely the best part of this game. Ever. I don't think I've been as charged to work side-by-side with total strangers before -- not even when the Kalphite Queen came out; not even when the Chaos Elemental showed up. Through a little work and determination, I've found some like-minded 'Scapers that tackle Armadyl's Eyrie frequently (and some have been very lucky at it). Even if we don't share the loot, who cares? All that matters [to me] is that we have a great time slaying the bosses and their Guardians. Now, we just need to get over our premature fear of that Icyene and take her on...but she puts on the hurt with many a brave fool...

Sent over plain text? Why would it be? The Java applet(s) encrypt the data on their own, so there's no real need to fret about it.

GDW getting like PC
Honestly, if a 120+ told me to leave, I'd tell him, "Eat before you die", and watch him fade into nothingness from his distractions. All jokes aside, a few 120s acting like they're God or something doesn't make it into PC; it just makes them look stupid. Besides, God Wars Dungeon is *far* from being PC. By a mile. No joke.

Level Cap
I'd prefer a system similar to this; the "base" level and the "base" experience wouldn't change, just the way the numbers are tallied. In that system, it seems to have a ratio of about 1 to 1.75 in terms of levels. Under the current RuneScape structure, that is a perfectly acceptable move. Any other changes to the system might result in a new and totally radical game than we know.
-
Level Cap
It'll be really tough to reform the game [as we know it] with a higher level cap in it than before. If they were to do that they'd have to redefine the leveling schema, the experience per item/monster made/harvested/killed, and change the combat levels and adjust a whole slew of things. I'm quite confident that it can be done, but when it is, it won't be on a level that we could compare it to the RuneScape we know today. It'd be like comparing a catapult to an artillery battery; not gonna happen.

August 28 2007 - God Wars Dungeon
Thinking that you can solo any of these is an instant death wish. However it can be done, just not with a rune c'bow.

no update...again?
Honestly. Learn some patience. It's enough already that we're getting a fantastic update; can't you put those pins and needles to use and get something else done?

Rc pking
It's a fact of life. You're out there, you're fair game. Although I haven't bothered myself (not really much of a PKer at all), it's just something natural to expect. Saying that RC PKers shouldn't exist is like saying the KBD shouldn't throw fireballs. Just learn to expect it as it comes up. Even if two out of three of the interviewees will choose flight when another PKer shows up... But that's another story.
