  1. If I have the time and the goal in mind, I'll definitely harvest my own goods for my own practical uses. [For me, it's not only cheaper than buying it all at once, but it's also faster, since money for me comes and goes like the tide.]
  2. Only thing that I'm upset with is how players like yourself seem to take these things that are of bare minimum consequence and then turn it into a spiel about how "Jagex caters to the children". It gets annoying, you know, but I digress. I can't exactly see how the Assist Skill system, or Lootshare, made the game any easier than it was before. Basically, with the Assist Skill, all you have is the same exact thing that you did before it existed, except the risk of another player taking your goods has been removed (and no, we're not talking about gems or anything trivial, either). Lootshare made it so that clans taking on a boss-type monster could have an equal chance at the loot. In both cases, both scenarios existed in different and "insecure" ways before they were updated by Jagex. I also don't feel that the game is going to the children. Perhaps you're getting older and viewing it in a different light. The rules have been there since before you registered, and the filter [my guess is that this is what you were on about when you said 'chat box'] is there to reduce the number of kids you see using four or five-letter words. Honestly, I don't care how old you are; cursing just because you can isn't cool. The community is what we make of it. We are the community. Older players leave the community, and they're not replaced by older players. Also, more and more teenagers play these types of games, which offsets the balance of adult and children playing RuneScape in particular. Nobody's holding a gun to your head to make you do these "easy" quests, either. If you don't like their direction, don't do them. Perhaps the Grand Exchange will make RS simpler. I for one sure do hate going into World 1/2 just to sell a few items; 30 minutes worth of fight for 15 minutes worth of sell-time just doesn't seem practical to me. (No, I don't believe in using desktop shortcuts or any other little trick; I'm content with just going through the site as was intended anyway.) (By the by, we've always been a little bit lazy, but that laziness was practical. Who wanted to harvest 10,000 iron and 20,000 coal to get some Smithing levels? That could be construed as laziness as well, you know.)
  3. It doesn't make much sense to have the extraction skills there at first, but they do come in handy once in a while. In truth, if they want them to be there, then I'm fine with it. It doesn't bother me since I'm not going to be loaning those skills out all the time. Besides, if I have to pass the time while they're harvesting tons of Adamant ore, I always have my Gameboy.
  4. Quotes answered in chronological order. [hide=Quote Pyramid!] [/hide] First, what is fun to you (an entirely PvP world) isn't fun to the rest of us, namely myself. There is no way that I'd play a game where I run the risk of being killed by another player just by gathering seaweed. For me, RuneScape doesn't revolve entirely around PvP. It may for you, but it won't for me. Not ever. Second, whatever happened to Mage Bank? Fire Giants Dungeon? Pirates Cove? Rune Rocks? Axe Hut? Rogues Hideout? Do you mean to tell me you're too afraid to go up there and PK by yourself? Third, no one in their right mind (key word: right) would risk a Fire Cape in the Wilderness. As you said, it takes two hours, with minimal stats. Even with mine, it took about...ninety-seven minutes (multiplied by the number of attempts between its first release and July of '07). That's ninety-seven [times eleventeen] minutes that I could have applied elsewhere in the game, and there's no way I'm going to just piss that away at the hands of some snot-nosed brat. Anyone that does, seeking marginal gain in strength, is a fool and deserves to lose it. Even with the Barbarian items, those one to two days could have been spent better in my eyes, and I don't intend to go risking it in the Wilderness just to hit a surprise 41 with a whip. If I want that [and higher], I'll buy a freaking Godsword, thank you. Fourth, I've only used Pest Control to gather up some Void Knight items. Even then I can barely stand the place. I don't see how Teleblock ruined the wild, either; 99% of PKers did nothing but piss and moan about how their prey got away because they teleported, and so Jagex was kind enough to introduce the spell. Now you have the audacity to piss and moan about how teleblocking ruined the Wild? What's wrong, didn't get away in time? Fifth, I don't see any proof at how any spots were made safer. Shortening the Wilderness doesn't really count; all it did was separate the boys from the men and shrink down level-1 Wild. If you think that made it safer, then you really don't know what goes on up there. And that strip is only a non-multi combat zone. All that means is that you're duking it out one-one-one, nothing more and nothing less. Sixth, if you're not using a bow/arrow or a crossbow, then you're setting yourself up for a mage. What do you want me to say, do you want me to feel sympathy for you being disadvantaged at this end of the triangle? Seventh, you've openly admitted to multiple logging in AND implied drop-trading between your accounts. You'd better not be sayin' that too loudly around here; Jagex can hear you. Eight, you don't necessarily agree to the terms of the Wilderness. You don't get to choose your battles; your battles choose YOU!!. Besides, if you can't handle someone in single-combat, what do you think you'll do in multi? Ninth, that's bug abuse anyway. Tenth, if I'm in the Wilderness, and I have my stuff, there's a slim chance that I want to willingly give you my stuff, so of course you'll fight me for it. If you don't like the fact that I'm not skulled, ergo I'll keep my best three, that's your beef. That ain't Jagex's fault. Eleventh, learn how to use Saradomin Strike + Smite. Twelfth, see above. Thirteenth, there's no point in lying. You said it first in your first post: Learn to man-up to your actions or go back to grade school. Fourteenth, Saradomin Brew didn't make the wild safer. Just meant I could have more hitpoints. Doesn't make it safer. Teleblock doesn't make it safer. Means that now I'm stuck fighting you at Mage Bank. Teletabs didn't make the wild safer. I can't use them at where I'm typically at ( > 20 wild), and I only use them as an effective means of teleportation on Lunar magic. ------ Honestly dude, none of this is Jagex's fault or Jagex saying that they hate PKers. Don't point the finger at them; just stop playing for a month. I think we could all use the break from you.
  5. This review isn't putting enough faith into Jagex for what they do against bots, macroers, and real-world traders. In truth, not a single one of us really could -- there are times when I feel like they need to be doing more. But, there's some things that we should keep in mind when dealing with such a touchy topic. 1. Realize that IP addresses come and go. It isn't hard to reset a router to get a brand new IP address. Jagex does IP banning, but if they can reset their router, bye-bye ban. 2. Pursuing many of these macroers that sell gold for money online is a lot harder than you think. Many companies are stepping up what they can do legally, but of course, they're bound by the countries that they're in, and the countries that the offenders are in. ------ With those aside, let me begin to dissect the rest of this. [The biggest complaint is that it's too easy for trouble-makers and computerized programs to make playing frustrating for those who really do sit in front of the computer while their player kills five thousand imps to advance one strength level or clicks away at an open mining site trying to amass gold or mithril to smith or chops oak trees in order to get to a high enough level to chop yews or use a rune axe.] We call that "grinding". It occurs in most every major MMO. Funnily enough, doesn't matter what you do -- you'll never escape it. Either come to grips with it or reject it. Besides, who the hell would waste their time killing 5,000 imps for a strength level if you really wanted one? (Don't breathe a word about the Champion Challenges, either.) [Though Jagex tries to "crack down" on such offenders, it's only through hours of completing mindless tasks that the player gets more out of the game, which makes even the most rule-abiding players consider using those 'bots' to get tasks done.] ...Just because I like to mine means that I'm more prone to use a bot? The hell kind of statement is that? [The game does offer a number of 'quests' for free players and promises to expand the number periodically, but while the free world map is only a small percentage of the full game available for P2P's, it doesn't offer graphics or playability on the level of World of Warcraft.] [Graphics] RuneScape can run on a GX1, 333MHz processor, and 128MB of RAM, running either Windows 98 or Mandrake Linux, with a 15GB hard disk (with of course, 2GB left out for whatever the OS wanted). World of Warcraft wouldn't even consider installing. Comparing the graphics of RuneScape to World of Warcraft is like comparing the Atari 2600 to the PS3. Way too one-sided there. Besides, Java is a flexible (OS-independent) programming language. Using that old GX1, running any OS (98, 2K, Linux-based), I could play RuneScape just fine. Of course, WoW only runs on Windows 2K or higher, requires a much more decent computer and a graphics card to boot. On top of that, I have to have near 10GB of hard disk space to run WoW. I think I could probably fit all of RuneScape (and server data) on a floppy. Sorry, but I think this guy is quite full of it. He should at the very least understand the amazing progress that Jagex has made with Java (and allowing me to run it on a GX1 if I so desired, and no I do not desire that).
  6. Wait wait wait, you're just now noticing this? Many of us caught wind of it back in '04... Of course, most every update has some degree of players that will adamantly disagree with it, doesn't much matter which board it's at. RSoF gets thrust into the limelight more times than enough because it's the most commonly accessed. Besides, let the little kids whine about it. If they get your attention with their crybaby attitude and paranoia about a new update, then their pointless [and often baseless] rants have served their purpose -- to get under your skin.
  7. This is gonna be fun. I'm going to rip this [pathetic] rant to shreds. 1. RuneScape used to be entirely PvP, with the exception of Lumbridge. There'd be no point to go to any other city and run the risk of getting killed, so Lumbridge was used extensively. I [and I doubt I'm alone in this] would hate it if the entire game except for one or two cities was all Wilderness. 2. If you're going to go to level 1 Wilderness to PK, take your sissy [wagon] to the Duel Arena instead. The Wilderness has enough problems, let alone the number of wannabe-PKers. 3. Fire Cape is hard enough to get (takes some amount of hand-eye coordination that many don't have), and most every Barbarian item takes some degree of teamwork to acquire. Get your own of these items, and let's hear you complain then. 4. Teleblock. 5. No one cares. 6. Prove it -- name 3 spots that were made "safer" in the Wilderness. 7. Been like that since Classic days. Don't like it? Attack me within nine seconds instead of calling me names. 8. Why would you complain? It isn't like you'd be nearby the player when they died of poison... 9. I thought you hated teleporters. 10. What trick? 11. The HELL is wrong with that? If I'm only there to train, then I'm not coming prepared to fight and give you my rune... 12. Again, no one cares. Learn to smite or learn to live with it. 13. See number 12. 14. You infuriate me. Calling someone a 'nerd' doesn't make them any lower than you; just makes you look like an [wagon]. 15. Lure and lead tactic. 16. Name three updates, if you will. I've got to see this.
  8. Speculation and rumor aren't facts. I'd love for you to come back with some actual concrete evidence of this, though; then it'd be worth discussing.
  9. Would your skills in Diablo II transfer over to World of Warcraft? Seriously, people.
  10. There's a fine line between undermining a players' skills and extending another players' skills to someone else (i.e. friend). Jagex hasn't crossed it yet. All this update really did was give players a chance to share skills without exchanging items, which, in essence, hasn't changed since classic. Personally, my skills are rather decent in the sense that I can almost make everything I need (with the exception on Rune), and on that rare occasion I'll need a friend's help to make a Fury/Dragonstone Amulet/etc. It doesn't undermine my efforts as a skiller; anyone and everyone could "lend their friends' abilities" for a bit, but that came with the risk that your "friend" wouldn't be quite as friendly as you'd thought, and you'd lose your stuff. With this system, that risk is virtually eliminated. By the way, you've got to stop fearing change. The entire freaking world is changing, but you're not going to stop that. This game will always change, so no need to throw a hissy fit when it keeps on doin' what it's doin'.
  11. What're the chances that the item will actually stay in your bank account UNTIL they are bought?
  12. I've never really approved of some "middleman" buying my items en masse for a low price, then selling for a higher price. Besides, I like the idea of being able to trade without wasting so many hours in World 2. I also don't really believe that merchanting will be dead. As with many other things in RuneScape, merchanters either learn to adapt or go extinct.
  13. To me, this would fall under the category of "who gives a damn". Members get near 50 updates a year, what's wrong with giving freeplayers a little bit more space? Besides, as players, it's not our concern to worry about "server space". I realize that servers can only hold so much data, but I'm not getting paid to care about it. I'm quite sure though that most players opposed to this would probably think that members are getting the brush-off (like they thought with the Party Room), but that only proves the greed of [some] members. If they want it so bad, give 'em 12 extra spaces, I don't mind. Although, I'm quite certain that someone else will...
  14. Hey, flames come with the rants, at absolutely no extra charge. If you didn't want the flame, don't get to rantin'.
  15. This'd be one reason why I don't have a Paypal account. A whole load of drama that I could live without. Here's what you do -- send the rest of the negative credit (if you still feel like it) through PayByCash [mail]. I've used it for about three years and it hasn't steered me wrong yet.
  16. It's literally a one-handed spear. If you can get any decent training with it, let us know, but it's just a spear with the option to wield a defender.
  17. No one said they were dealing with partyhat merchants. There's a merchant for everything; not all of them start big. For those that aren't with the best of the best (or just aren't in the market for a paper hat), we deal with people that we have no idea how they got this much money in the first place (low stats, high-value items). Keep that in mind, if you would. Not all of us deal with rares.
  18. For whatever reason I associate a merchant with someone that's manipulated the system so well that they're making a huge profit. In many cases, with most every merchant that I've dealt with had a near allergy or resentment towards me for not wanting to profit the "easy" way. What they'd do is buy low, sell high -- not hard to do, but definitely time consuming. Me, being the practical person that I am, decided instead to practice the skills that I have to make more money instead of spending all day in a full server, selling at often times, just one item for a profit. I don't really like merchants because I don't see them as seriously beneficial to the game as a whole, nor do I think that they're playing for fun. If you play a game just to make a profit, what are you playing for? [You should probably go to the real stock market instead of wasting your time on RS.] Well that's how I see it, anyway. Pending the new Grand Exchange, if any merchants quit over it, they didn't need to be playing in the first place.
  19. The way that I see it is that it will only ruin the wannabe merchants at their half-profession. I don't necessarily see that merchants as a whole will be wholly affected by any of this. Of course, what is merchanting? To me, it sounds like they're too lazy to raise any profit-making skill [and they turn out huge profits], and then ridicule those that do.
  20. Personally, I'd prefer updates/revisions to older and more venerable skills (little do we know how important Mining really is) before we got a new one. To me, there's no point in putting out something new when something old could really use a facelift. Proper bug testing only comes when the code is exposed to more than the company itself, so that means on the day of release. Besides, Hunter isn't half-baked...at least I don't think so...
  21. I knew I posted this before: Honestly, those people were [wagon] to you, and you did not deserve such treatment. You should be free to experiment in this game no matter what your level, and if those guys don't like it, then that's their problem. Take it with a grain of salt. In this game, there is only about 3% of people that are genuinely nice; the other 97% are looking for ways to belittle you so they can feel better about themselves. Kinda strange you'd repost it after five pages though...oh well, not my concern.
  22. 1. This ain't Classic; there ain't a cap of 20,000 people online at once and there certainly wasn't anyone taking up that coveted 200,000 spot. 2. Most skills you need to be level 50 in anyway, depending on the popularity. I believe (I can't check right now) that Construction is in the level 34 margin, and I believe that Strength is upwards near 55 or even higher. 3. Jagex will extend it if they feel it's necessary. They've done it before.
  23. Hold it. The statue in Port Sarim ain't decoration. That's part of the Holy Grail. Doesn't make much sense though, to be putting a non-touchable tree into RuneScape. But then again, if it made sense, I probably wouldn't appreciate the aesthetic look that it gives.
  24. Said tree has existed in the game for nigh on...three years (four in December). It's not meant to be chopped down or be an NPO, it's just there to look nice.
  25. The above just had to be quoted for truth. That's quite a concise point there. I think I respect you for what your stance on this entire debacle is. You seem to have a level head about it.
