  1. Though his comment was a bit harsh, it's really more about people not knowing whether the person is male or female and just writing "he" in a community where the majority of Could you refrain from making generalizations about a community that you don't know? I don't know why Freesia claimed you need "proof" of gender, all you need is just to indicate it in your signature or something.
  2. Hanging one's self over a verbal insult is, in my opinion, a ridiculous extreme and I do not like those kinds of tactics used to make people more sensitive to an issue by presenting an unusual extreme. I'm also kind of surprised that the mother goes so far to shield her child, and I believe that the mother's over protectiveness did contribute this tragedy. Thus, I also think that this tragedy could have been avoided if the girl wasn't exposed to so much abuse all at once. That being said, you explained the article quite well in a way that did make me consider some issues in cyber-bullying. Not so much about verbal abuse (I'll get to that in a second) but more about what you said. Backstabbing, a friend destroying one's account. A person who acts in such a way is not worthy of being called a friend. Putting aside all the "get over it, it's just a game" arguments aside, for people who really believe and trust their friends, it can be devastating to know that their friends not only were not there to support them but also were part of the cause. Like you said, words can kill, but also actions speak louder than words. So if words can kill, actions can destroy. With the anonymity of the internet, verbal abuse obviously has a tendency to grow. It's simply because we are unable to see the other person's reactions. If you even just talked to the person (let alone saw the person in real life), you'd probably find it harder to swing insults in their face than if you pmed them on, say, an online forum. I'm not talking about the extreme cases where a young kid cries over being called a "noob" in an online game but really about the lack of companionship for our fellow scaper and even friends that we all exhibit (in different degrees) as we follow our elitist dreams. Verbal abuse isn't limited to insults. Say a friend of mine gets an achievement, depending on how I say it (words matter A LOT more online because body language and tone of voice cannot be read over the internet), it could have different effects. If I say, "good god, what took you so long? Not only this is such a basic achievement, but you took forever to do it." the reaction is obviously negative. But I can also say "Hey, that's not bad at all. Isn't it great? i know how it feels to get [such and such]. Btw, you know there's a new method that could help you later on?" I can not only get the same message across, but the friendship just gained another plus. This shows that you don't need to always be "tough" to get a point across. As for this related to runescape. It's a general "treat others the way you want them to treat you". The things are applicable ingame all the time. Think twice before you throw an insult at someone just to prove a point. Hold back a bit when you diminish someone's achievement just to promote your own. Coop vs Competitive? Just like many things in life, there are two sides to the problem. As discussed earlier, there's the abuser who should cool down, or stop completely on the abuse. But there's also the person receiving the abuse who needs to understand how to deal with it (in a good way, so no cutting or hanging). This is where the argument of the age limit on runescape comes in. It's not something that I want to get into, but in general people who have gained maturity know how to deal with abuse better. So that's just another reason why runescape is NOT suitable for pre-teens who generally are less mature.
  3. That's not exactly sure. We can make educated guesses based on the information given. Formulating an educated guess can be done with just a bit of information. What we cannot do is make accurate guesses. And what is this assessment based on? Calling them "sloppy" due to the existence of bugs is completely unreasonable. It is just impossible to cover every single outcome when you're dealing with something as complex as a video game.
  4. Questionnaire forum is for questionnaires Your first 99 ? 2 years and 3 months Your first million gold ? 6 months And when did you start playing? Nov 4th 2004
  5. Wow! I could not agree more strongly. I am sick to death of people lamenting about how everything was so much better in "the good old days" or "the golden age", "everyone was so much nicer". It's just so tedious. Tell me all the tales you want about RSC, I am always curious, but please spare me the . In real life as well, when old people talk about "In the good old days I would go out and work all day" or "in the good old days we didn't have to rely on computers". Sometimes I feel people are just trying to appear special by talking about "ye old days". On the other hand, I often times go back to "my first mining site", listen to "newbie melody" or such things for the sake of reminding myself (not lamenting about) the past. I value what I consider "the good old days", but I don't brag towards others about my experiences. I will, occasionally, tell some tales but it's just for the sake of information. I guess what really matters is how we deal with changes. For runescape, I don't mind changes, even if they don't play in my favor because I just know I'll get use to them eventually. That isn't true for the generic ranters that hate an update for being a change they didn't expect. I think the people who lament about the "good old days" are the first to rant about updates when they come out.
  6. My friend, just started playing rs, just became a member is already showing more knowledge than a level 99 in the domain of mining  . I rest my case. I do agree with you, but PC isn't really to blame, it just made it easier. Otherwise these idiots would just train on rock crabs or something. "not giving a damn" is a matter of opinion, and quite a few people think it's sad when a "high level" doesn't know where basic location x is. Ignoring the existence of a problem doesn't solve anything. Playing PC with your friends doesn't really make any difference
  7. What's better? good experience at a crowded place? or slightly less experience at a not crowded place? I can't see why you're surprised that the most training spots attract a crowd.
  8. You know, that's what I was telling myself about 2 and a half years ago and here I am now. That shows that, even if you don't think you can do so now, you may be in a position where you can get a 99. After all, I've played this game for about 3 years, but all 3 of my 99s were done in the 3rd year.
  9. well if your speculation isn't based on anything, then yes :|
  10. First goal was 99 smithing. Eventually I lost the incentive to get it. First achievement was 60 mining, access to the mining guild. Then, in p2p, it was getting my d hally at 62 cb (not extraordinary but pretty cool ), doing loads of quests, getting 91 rc, 85 mining, getting a partyhat, getting a massive income....
  11. got it working it's fun as long as the place is not empty. Thanks ego for helping me get set up.
  12. On topic: I'm gonna wear my expensive outfit and just have some fun then  Off topic: Sorry but sasori fight is identical to the manga, all they did was prolong the team gai fights to bring in the theme of "Stronger than I was yesterday" and showing some pretty cool moves. That's like 100000000 times better than filler. Oh and when did bleach fillers start? I can't find the exact episode
  13. Selling 1 chicken for 10 mill isn't going to go unnoticed
  14. I really don't like it people who use that cheap attempt to draw attention to their thread. If their thread really was good they wouldn't need the "20K+ views" "5k+ replies"
  15. We've got 2 fairy rings AND an enchanted lyre to get to rellekka, the fairly rings are off to the side but the lyre is sufficient and you can make multiple lyres for ease (and ring of charos helps you get enough charges) So, problem solved
  16. Christmas light in november  ? well anyways, I'll be sure and spread the word.
  17. This looks soooo cool, I am so going to get it this weekend for sure. (anime/manga channel please : )
  18. The runestones have power bound within them, you just need your magic skills to release it.
  19. Ok, first of all, Qeltar, you did a great job writing the article. It's not easy writing about something we know so little about, and I think you explained the general terms pretty well without making too many assumptions. The economics, for the most part, about predictions are all logical and I do also agree with you putting down the "economic crash" theories and similar nonsense as I really think,as you do, it's just bs.I will, however, disagree on your use of price elasticity, I prefer just explaining the concept of the "invisible hand" and price equilibrium. Price elasticity of demand or supply is used to explain, for a change in price, by how much there will be a change in supply/demand. It does not, however, adequately explain if there will be a change in price. What I find odd, when reading the part about elasticity is that you talk about it like it's a force that acts upon supply and demand to give the equilibrium price. Now I believe that that is not price elasticity of demand/or supply, and unless I misunderstood the economic terminology I'm tempted to say that concept behind the movement of supply and demand is part of the "invisible hand" and not price elasticity. Also, why "price elasticity" on it's own? From what I've been taught it's always either price elasticity of demand or price elasticity of supply (and others such as income elasticity of demand to explain "inferior goods" vs "luxury goods"). Otherwise, in the end, the great exchange does not change the supply or demand, they will simply find their equilibrium as they have in the past. I think I understand the point that qeltar is getting across. Basically he is refering to a specific type of good that is considered "unsellable". These are goods, for which, there is no market meaning that the supply doesn't cross the demand (if you were to look on a graph that is). Meaning that the price is not considered high enough for producers to sell it and they are better off making something else. Now, the assumption (which I support to a certain extent) is that although these goods in question take very little time to sell, are not considered "not worth it" because they take a very long time to sell at their current price. Therefore, the opportunity cost of selling is too great and the opportunity cost of buying is small enough so that most people just get the items themself The great exchange, assuming there are few limitations, is aimed at severely limiting the opportunity cost of selling. Therefore, these goods are now easy to "produce" and easy to sell thus increasing the supply and therefore, if the supply increases enough, it is possible that it could cross the demand curve thus creating a market for this good.
  20. Yep, it doesn't look fake, and that's exactly why I think it's fake. I'd have an easier time trusting a picture that's obviously fake. As for people saying "Oh i've seen it before", well pictures speak louder than words. You know there's a reason behind my distrust of everyone. Back a few months there were SEVERAL people who posted a black cape with two red lines down each side and saying "Look, untrimmed slayer cape \ " or comments like that. At first I thought it was a joke, but then you wouldn't believe how much it took to convince these people that a RED AND BLACK cape was, in fact, trimmed. That's why, from that day on, if someone says "I saw an untrimmed slayer cape with my own eyes" I don't trust them or their own eyes.
  21. I can stop playing any time I want. I just don't want to. Yeah I play a lot of runescape however the opportunity cost is not important (meaning I don't sacrifice much to play the game).
  22. In that case they should control their audience better since obviously as you said, the content in the game (although I disagree on some parts) Those are people who basically say "I hard a hard time when i started playing so other people shouldn't". You prove that it was done in order to favor younger audience. For example, the tutors are often debated as being unnecessary but the people saying that are people who basically say in their mind "hey, i never got them when I started, so why should new players have them?" and then, too afraid to face the truth of "life's not fair", they make up a reason that satisfies them. Those complaints, in my opinion, are therefore based on biased assumptions and correlations. The people saying those things are also, to a certain extent, egocentric because they are simply annoyed that they didn't get those features at the time. I believe that the skill tutors and such updates are to lower the steep learning curve. From what friends have told me, the steep learning curve at the start really can drive players (of all ages away), which is not a good thing. Sure, when I play an online game now, the first thing I do is check the manual to get info on how to play, but the truth is most people do not -- especially when it's their first MMO . The people who complain are people who are proud to have passed the learning curve and complain when their bragging rights are taken away. Now conquering ignorance may be an intersting challenge in some people's eyes however in Jagex's eyes it's not good for business so they make the game more user-friendly so that not everyone has to learn the "hard way". These are designed to stop ignorance (which is quite a normal thing at the beginning, no offense) however this does not assume that the game is aimed at pre-teens. While looking at all forms of idiocy I have noticed that age is not that decisive a factor. What I mean is that teens are perfectly capable of the same kinds of idiocy (or, arguably even more) than that observed by pre-teens so no, I do not believe that those updates are targeting pre-teens but instead targeting new players who are not always pre-teens but can be just as, if not more, ignorant. Good question. Frankly I'm starting to wonder myself. Considering the timeframe and the circumstances, I'm starting to understand your side of the story a lot more now. That is quite scary, and you're sure that they were the ones who labeled it as 9 and up? and is it correct to assume that the 9 and up refers to the game related to the book and not just the book? Needless to say, especially with the crap about luring, I can understand why you'd feel pretty pissed. I guess he's just a 13 year old who got held back? :) What's even more interesting is when you compare that review to 6th grader's review  And how do they manage to do it at the age when they're learning the alphabet? Honestly, I'm curious. probably because I have a hard time accepting that they made this game for pre-teens. As for everyone who deny the presence of "hornballs", from what I've seen, if there is a female character in the area she becomes the center of attention immediately with flirts and suggestive comments about body parts. Some kids just can't control themselves and when I saw what qeltar used to describe them I laughed so much; it was so funny and so true. I can't believe that people are so desperate for an online date but hey, that's another matter.
  23. Efficiency does not mean that you must work on one skill. If you could tell me how much money per hours that is, I could demonstrate how you're actually better off (in terms of experience and in time) buying the pure ess and mining granite
