  1. First off, you are ignoring the massive presence of buyers that could very well outweigh the massive presence of sellers. What people do is exactly what they would do on the forums. Also, the whole point of the great exchange is to lessen the time spent waiting, therefore skillers don't have to worry about how long it takes to sell at a certain price therefore skillers have incentive to actually sell at a higher price. Depending on how it is structured, there may be more or less buyers at the great exchange. That's why I think that there is no guarantee that the price will fall for all goods (let alone crash). If the price really did go to an all time low, buyers would be quick to react and grab everything, thus bringing the price back up. It is even possible that the price of many things fall right away because people as I speak are keeping items tucked away in their banks awaiting for the update. So I believe your theory in the short term is possible but for a different reason. I think it's possible that the short-term supply may have the effect of lowering prices however it depends on the mentality of people and on the structure of the update which are two things that I don't see. Therefore it's possible, but also possible that the exact opposite may happen (due to the lessening of the time taken to sell items) Highly unlikely. After a while the short-term increase in supply will be over and, since the long-term supply has remained the same, the price will go back to what it pretty much was originally. There is absolutely no indication of a further decrease in the price of these items. Plausible (although not as dramatic) if and only if merchants lost a significant part of their income. That is yet another theory. If it turns out that merchants can adapt and surpass thanks to this update then we're looking at an increase in the price of rares and not a decrease because, as these are goods of conspicuous consumption, they have a tendency to increase when people's incomes get higher and vice-versa. Now, not only is it far too much of a generalization to say "everything will go down" but also this is based on mere speculation. The way the great exchange is to cut down the waiting time for sellers (and buyers depending on how organized it is). Now that sellers don't have to spent time they can charge a higher price. This means that items that are generally "sitting around in banks" will be all sold therefore greater demand for these items therefore they will fall in price but also a lesser time constraint for people who want to sell their regular product (these are things like raw or processed materials that DON'T have a tendency to sit around until sold in bank sales) therefore the prices of those "regular products" are possibly going to increase. What I said, however, is based on the small amount of information given, therefore depending on how the GE is structured the outcome may vary tremendously. Also, monopolies can only be done with discontinued items and the great exchange will not have any effect on the ease of doing so.
  2. So basically you can't afford to spend 5$ a month because you're saving up for a car. Looks like you're gonna need a raise  . Considering how it bothers you so much and how you try and justify your actions leads me to believe tat you're pretty jealous. (denying the jealously will only prove that you're jealous) Good riddance Strongly reacts to people's provocations + feels the need to justify himself = strong jealousy.
  3. You're not banned, blackmarks are warnings. We're not going to give warning about warnings now
  4. Looks like you are also self-centered which makes you no better than the thread author. You have no right telling people what is fun and what isn't, it's their choice. If, for them, it's fun to make lots of money and have a vast collection of lots of items, then they are perfectly entitled to do so and if you say "you're wasting your time" you're just trying to force your opinions onto someone else. Also, don't assume that they use autotypers all the time. That's just a claim that you can't prove. And that's just a biased assumption that isn't even true. As I stated before (and obviously what you didn't even bother looking at), merchants provide the service of convenience. They will buy things quickly but for a more unfavorable price. For people who do not want to spend hours on forums this is a perfect solution. The misconception of merchants "ripping off" people is born from two different scenarios: First situation, where a person decides to buy/sell quickly. Player makes a lot of 1 random good and goes to sell on forums. Merchant comes up, says he buys all for a low price. Hours later, the merchant sells the good for a higher price and makes a profit. At this point people assume that the player could have found the person selling at a higher price and then blame merchant for so called "ripping him off" but that's not the case at all. Those people forget that the merchant had to spend HOURS on the forum looking for a good price and therefore he was more efficient at selling the good than the player (If the player was efficient at selling, he wouldn't have sold for a low price). The merchant gets money and the player saves heaps of time. NOBODY has lost, the player knew what price he was paying and this is exactly as if the player had payed the merchant to sell his goods for him. Time is money, the player was short on time and chose to spend money to save time. Second situation when the player doesn't know the price of the item. Player wants to buy, say torag's chest, and a merchant offers a price. The player accepts the price and later finds out that the price was lower. Of course, everyone quickly blames the merchant for "ripping off" the player when they should be blaming the player's ignorance. In game, it is your own responsability to check the prices of items. If you look at the first deal and assume that price to be the right one, you have nobody to blame but yourself if it turns out the price was higher/lower. In this scenario, if the ignorant player had taken more time to look for the right price, he would have noticed the price was a bit above average however he chose to save the time of looking and went ahead to buy the items. Furthermore, if the person was to buy the item somewhere on forums, he would have to spend time looking for a deal while the merchant is a fast option. Knowledge and information is important, and if you choose to disregard them (in other words if you choose not to check the prices of items), it's entirely your fault. That's your opinion, another would be "if you guys wanna waste $5 a month sitting around in one area and kill monsters over and over again it's your loss". You're even assuming that they buy things that they cannot do anything with. What about buying goods for the sake of showing off? Merchants could even invest in an expensive skill after they are done. Like I said before, the people's "misfortunes" are a result of either their own lack of time, or their own lack of information. In both those cases it is the player's responsibility and not the merchant's.
  5. Just because he's being critisized for overreacting does not mean that quitting is "the most awful thing to do". It's not an atrocity however, in this situation, it's too extreme.
  6. It's wierd because you didn't do enough trials. The more trials, the better the accuracy. In this case, with a grand total of 1 trial the accuracy is at it's lowest. Well it seems that there's no point in arguing that. By claiming everything is predestined to be the way it is, you basically go against the entire basics of genetics which leads me to believe that you don't believe in genetics. If so, there's no sense in trying to prove stuff on genetics. That's completely besides the point. I am not talking about choosing luck vs choosing skills. I am talking about how whenever you do something, whenever there is an event that has multiple possible outcomes, then there will be luck involved no matter how good your skills are. Like I said before, whenever you have a situation with multiple outcomes, there will be luck. Regardless of how good your skills are, there will always be several outcomes and therefore there will always be luck involved.
  7. Reguardless of the gender crap, notice the ethnicity division.
  8. What's more stupid? you not paying attention or you deciding to quit over this?
  9. So, related to the thread, just because an outcome is unlikely does not make it impossible. Getting a string of unlikely events is also an unlikely but not impossible outcome on it's own. Your right it is a "gamble" and their is a "luck factor" involved. But with higher stats, and facing someone 3 times, I would assume that the first was a lucky win, and I should win at least 1 out of 3. I mean Skill > luck in every other aspect in life why change that at risk of getting players ranting in this game. I mean apparently this player is extremely lucky, god forbid he loses a duel for not working as hard on his stats as others. =; Are you kidding? Luck is everywhere in our life. You are the way you are as a result of a simple round of roulette. Your gender, talents, physical aptitudes, environment, ability/disabilities are all a result of luck because they are all part of genetics and are decided simple probability. All you need for luck is an event with multiple possible outcomes. From that point, each one of those outcomes will have a possibility. Think of a few of the situations that have an event with multiple possible outcomes. Will the weather tomorrow be sunny or rainy? The number of events with multiple possible outcomes is just too big to even begin to comprehend. The fact that skills are luck-based in real life is just an emulation of how stuff works in real life. Practicing skills is just about increasing the likelihood of a certain event to take place as seen in runescape, if I practice my throwing, I can increase my chance of throwing a ball farther, not the throwing itself. The only difference is that runescape demonstrates it more clearly, so people just assume it only applies to runescape. Therefore, Skills > luck is not true, skills = luck. That may have been more than necessary however I believe it was important to explain these points because the whole luck issue is a huge misconception here.
  10. Well, where to start. First of all, you are ridiculously self-centered and this whole rant is about "I don't understand merchants and so i hate them". Not everyone is like you, and don't even think of assuming that is the case. That's entirely your fault. BOTH you and the other person accepted the trade as it was. Deal with it. What is more bothersome however is that you are basing all your judgment on simply the fact that he is level 3. How more ignorant can you get? Not only you are ignoring all his non-combat skills but you are just assuming this entire game is all about who's got better levels when that is only ONE of the MANY aspects of this game. That only shows that you are very biased against merchanting, and that you don't even understand merchanting. People play the game the way they want, if they want to collect expensive items let them do it. Basically, shut up and let people play the game the way they want. Well obviously you fail to realize that the "point" of this game is to have fun. If they have fun merchanting then they are playing the game. Besides, as I will explain later, they provide a service that you fail to even notice. You couldn't be more mistaken. This game functions on an economic system and market therefore it's entirely based on money. That's your opinion but more importantly, you're blaming merchants for not leveling their skills. How ignorant is that? Just because they have chosen not to level their skills does not mean they are "bad" players, they are simply different. It's this difference that you are unwilling to acknowledge and that is the reason for your ignorance. Furthermore, you're only focusing on one extreme. Plenty of players spend some time leveling skills, and other times buy/sell items. You need to stop imagining merchants as part of their own secluded community because it's within our very own nature to get the best deal possible. It sickens me more to even imagine that there is a person in this world who is this self-centered. You hate merchants just because they are different. Now that, I believe, is a disgrace. Now as I said before, merchants are here to offer a very important service to us. They act as a bystander between producers and consumers. They offer the service of convenience (which is apparently a very valued service considering what people are willing to pay). For people who need something but is not ready to spend hours on forums, they are there. For people who don't know the forums exist or have a hard time selling stuff on the forums for some particular reason, they are there. One of the big misconceptions is that people are getting "ripped off" because merchants will sell for a higher price, well that's so wrong. People who sell to merchants sell to them because they do not want to spend the time on the forums looking for a better deal. If, for example, I sell my nats slightly cheaper to a merchant, he will then spend time on forums to sell for higher price. Some people then assume "oh well I could have found that higher price on my own" yet they forget that, in order to find that deal, the merchant had to spend hours wandering around the forum and/or ingame. That is a perfect representation of the saying "time is money" because you are basically paying the merchant to spend time on the forums while you can save time and do more stuff ingame. Another example of this is people who don't know the item price, in this case you. When you bought your torag's chest, you only realized later that the price was higher. Obviously you were in a rush and you didn't take the time to see if there were any better deals. If you had taken the time to look for a better deal, you would have saved some money. However the moment you bought torag's chest, you decided to save time at the opportunity cost of 75k. Complaining about that now is another issue, however I'm using it as an example to show that, yet again, "time is money" and this time you chose time at the opportunity cost of money. Merchants are simply there to do the opposite. Merchants are an integrated part of this game and offer the important service of convenience in this game. Don't like them? That's fine. After all, nobody is forcing you to be like them, however you have to understand an acknowledge different people's choices. If they don't want to do what you want them to do, like level up skills, it's their own free choice and it's none of your business to say otherwise. By the way, despite my understanding of merchanting, I am anything but a merchant. To a certain extent I'm a skiller (as well as many, many other things), much like yourself however the difference between us is that I acknowledge the fact that different people like/dislike different things for different reasons. Acceptance and understanding are important things in our real world as well. We need to accept people in order to understand them, instead of hating them just for being different.
  11. And what would that accomplish? Why pay so high a price and solve nothing? That's a really terrible idea.
  12. Questionnaires go in the questionnaire forum The clear winner for the question would be the RSOF. The rants forum is their spawning ground. Once they develop movement, they make their way to the suggestions forum and start dumping their filth. Then, they attack various forums such as Off-topic or *shivers* RPG forum consuming all forms of potential intellect as they go along. Currently, they have infected and taken over the RSOF almost completely, only people in market forums have been able to develop an immunity to their nature. Unfortunately, now they have found TIF and some of them are slowly trying to spread here as well.
  13. That's going to create infinitely more problems than it will solve (create a few problems and solve 0  ) Why do we need them to control? Why do we need to remove money from the economy? Why do we need less discontinued items in the economy? I'd like explanations more than speculations
  14. I doubt it, but it really all depends on how the great exchange is built. BTW I think that the organization of the great exchange is going to play a crucial role. and don't forget that they are the ones behind 9/11  ENOUGH with the conspiracy theories. Jagex's updates are here for us, not for being part of their "master plan". Man there's too much of a Metal Gear Solid influence in this world
  15. Hey... I think that was a little harsh! Go tell all the protesters that proving their point is just hurting themselves! Self-sufficency is good, but I agree, If i can buy an item from A shop, I almost always will. I do get my own hides, D bones, etc. It is a bit harsh, however I believe this ridiculous idea of "stop being lazy, be self sufficient" has already gone way too far and just show that some people have, once again zero knowledge of economics (this time with the idea of comparative and absolute advantage).
  16. I don't either, and I knew what that was... Well his logic was "if you don't know what that was, then you don't pk". That doesn't mean the inverse must be true.
  17. You openly admitted to making very deep accusations about him and assumptions based on looks, now that's probably the greatest ways to offend people. Despite his immaturity, he could simply be taking his anger off on you (which I would have done, although not in that manner), or perhaps he really was a drop trader and wanted to take advantage of the situation by rubbing it in more. But even if he was, you shouldn't judge so much based on looks and if you're going to, don't openly admit it. Also, why care so much about who the person you are trading with is? You're just here to get your item, and then most likely never see them again. It's not like you have sinned by trading with someone who may be a drop trader  . Hell, it's his grave, not yours.
  18. omg, could it be that members get more features than non-members? :o Inconceivable!!
  19. 4/10 Too many colors that don't go well together, you need to have a few colors that go well together overall. Also this is nothing exotic, it's just basic trimmed armor.
  20. Buy high and sell low works easily, in fact that's another perfect demonstration of "time = money", if you are prepared to recieve a bit less money for your products or pay a little more for the things you want, you will save the time of waiting around on forums buying. This is very connected to merchants, in fact the job of merchants is to provide this service. Merchants buy low and sell high from people who are willing to buy high and sell low. Therefore, the merchant does the waiting around on the forum instead of you. Therefore, you could consider this to be a service, and the profit that the merchant would be his "payment". Basically, you are paying someone to sit around on the forums. The varrock exchange is basically an opportunity to eliminate the time waiting around on the forums, so you will be able to get good deals even when you are not there. This is good, however notice how it's basically doing exactly what a merchant would do. Depending on the nature of the varrock exchange, the update is likely either to replace the job of merchants or create a place where merchants will be able to roam more freely. It all depends how much time it takes to buy/sell items there and how much time people are WILLING to spend buying/selling. I'm not saying merchants will vanish, however they could be hurt as their services could very will be more limited. 45 trips per hour is, in fact, a very possible amount. Abyssal rcing is that fast. Potting, eating and banking is all done in a matter of seconds, fixing pouches is only once every few trips and the whole buying/selling issue is not even part of the 45 trips. With all the extra costs it's still 400k per hour, that's pretty good. Then there's 91 rc which is 1 mill per hour. The ultimate and unrivaled income by skiller standards. Keep in mind that the amount spent on food varies, the energy potions are not mandatory and the presents of pkers is an excluded variable here. Correct, I'd say that getting a good deal is, right now, done at the opportunity cost of time. Now, this varrock exchange is likely to eliminate that opportunity cost therefore more people are going to get better deals. You are most correct in your definition but you didn't mention how it relates to the current issue in this thread. Don't expect to see it anytime soon First of all, the few people with the money to make even a slight difference, most likely wouldn't be bothered to do so. Second, they would have to compete with ALL the people who currently already own a black mask. Third, they would have to compete with all the "black mask hunters", basically the people that, due to the tremendous boost in price, all decided to go hunt cave horrors to get back masks. Monopolizing only works if you can isolate a certain resource and, considering so many people have access to the resource of black masks, it's not gonna happen. Same for any other resource in this game.
  21. I do self-sufficiency either when I don't believe the time wasted to be considerable or if I can't be bothered to buy it myself. Otherwise, self-sufficiency is horribly inefficient and if you do it just to prove a point you're just hurting yourself.
  22. What you mean to say is, "Not including the rarest skillcape, the rarest skillcape is construction"? Yeah, and not including every item in the game except for ashes, ashes are the rarest item in the game as well. Way to miss the point. I wasn't even talking about the untrimmed slayer skillcape, I even stated that I was purposefully NOT addressing myself to the whole untrimmed slayer skillcape debate. I said that the rarest skillcape (regardless of being trimmed or not) is construction. You can change a few words only until it changes the meaning of my sentence. Is not what I mean to say at all. If you wanted to re-arrange words it should be: I know that slayer is the rarest untrimmed skillcape, but overall construction is the rarest skillcape.
  23. 30k xp is alot more than people give credit for, you can do hundreds of requests so its still very reasonable. I'm not sure I understand what you mean. In your original post you said that you wanted people to be limited... ..and so I was just simply stating that it was, in fact, limited and so it fits your desires.
  24. Yeah, lootshare is totally childish. You'd have to be such a child to use lootshare
  25. I'm amazed to see people make baseless speculations on which skillcape is the rarest (not referring to the untrimmed slayer cape issue). I just looked it up, and you're both wrong because construction still wins as the rarest skillcape.
