No one respects Capes of Achievements..
Solidus_77 replied to Yohbilleh's topic in General Discussion
Keep in mind that people enjoy getting attention from having a skillcape. Or feel good about themselves after having accomplished a massive goal. That is an aspect of the game Agreed with that assessment except for what you said about firemaking. Firemaking may be fairly easy but it isn't nearly easy as cooking and fletching, two elements make it harder: - the fact that you get NO return from your investment - the fact that it requires a LOT more clicking -
What Are YOUR Views On 99 Fletching And Cooking?
Solidus_77 replied to Chelseaboy11_Is_Tom's topic in General Discussion
who told you that? :-s I'm pretty sure that someone who got a skill to 50 will have noticed that the exp increases exponentially, people also know 13m exp is required for a 99, and that 2m exp is needed for 80. 99 fletching can be achieved in 2 weeks by the way. -
comparative advantage states you make what you are most efficient at making (or least inefficient) . This means, if you can make a better income on anything better than yews, it makes more sense to use your income to buy the yews. So in the end, it can hurt efficiency. I don't want to defend macros, but I don't think advocating self-sufficiency is a good enough reason unless, of course, the price jumps to the point where you're better off getting them yourself.

Whats the Profitable Part of high lvled <skill>?
Solidus_77 replied to nicrune007's topic in Help and Advice
best in terms of what? money? self-sufficiency? fun? use? difficulty? In the end we can't decide what your favorite will be -
you should look at the archive of wisdom, that's where all the real guides are. One of the HUGE ones is all about abyssal rcing: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=637671 I'm kind of surprised nobody showed him that guide.

who cares, people managed to survive buying yew logs before the invasion of macroers. This has been discussed many times, in 3 different forums. Can we stop repeating the same arguments over and over again? This isn't some huge revelation. If macroers are banned, produces win, consumers lose but illegal selling is taken out of the game and therefore the consumers loss is an acceptable loss.

What Are YOUR Views On 99 Fletching And Cooking?
Solidus_77 replied to Chelseaboy11_Is_Tom's topic in General Discussion
I take offense to this question. From your post you are conveying that you do not respect players that have level 99 in Fletching or Cooking. I find this extremely ignorant. A 99 is a 99, whether it's Cooking or Herblore. Have you ever considered that some players actually like these skills just for what they are? I've been a fan of Fletching ever since it's release and had absolutely no second thoughts about leveling it to 99. How dare you say that 99 fletching is just like 99 herblore! One of them is one of the hardest skills, the other is one of the easiest. The gap in difficulty is so severe. If you have gone for 99 fletching or cooking for a cape you are choosing the easiest 99, that may not be your only motive however the fact remains true. Don't even think for a second that your 2 week spent getting 99 fletching is worth anything close to the months of effort put into 99 herblore. Not all 99 skills are equal. Some are extremely difficult compared to others. You are the ignorant once since you just assume they are all equal. -

Dissing runecrafting now are we? How dare you bash one of the hardest skills in the game? The situation can only be done realistically with 91+ rc, so getting to 91 will require some other method Furthermore, organizing that kind of running can be tricky, and a lot harder than other skills. (also requires 100% attention) Finally, even while that is fast experience compared to other rcing methods, it's only 50k per hour. This whole idea of you just have to "sit in one place and train all day" is supposedly a reason why the skill is easy? what a load of crap! If you have to "sit in one place" and train for 4 months, the skill is not easy. It's the timeframe that matters, not your location. Rebdragon has a very good point about disproving this whole "all 99s are equally respectable". You can't just decide that as an arbitrary baseline since some 99s take 2 weeks, others take months and months. You can't compare apples and oranges. The whole idea of "all 99s are respectably" is just an attempt to make cooking/fletching capes seem better by comparing them to all other 99s. From a value point of view this just isn't the case; 2 weeks spent doing minimal clicking is not equivalent to 3 months of constant clicking. The saying "all skills are equal" should instead be "all skills are equal, but some are more equal than others" Another commonly used argument is "you don't even have a cooking/fletching skillcape so you can't diss mine, and if you do you're jealous". That's a personal attack more than an argument, and I dislike it when people attack the person instead of trying to beat their arguments. It's a cowardly move and I'm not going to show any sympathy for it. -

You're welcome : , and thankyou for doing the skill look-up. Looks like I had overestimated fletching and cooking yet again. also, lol at the name of the file: "worthless highscores" Quite honestly that's really long for 99 cooking. Usually that skill can be done in 2 weeks fairly easily. -
yep! this is what is truly awesome about MMORPGs : . You are someone else, it's a geeky kind of idea but it holds true.

"Shades Of Mortton" Minigame is underrated
Solidus_77 replied to Yohbilleh's topic in General Discussion
at the time I was trying it, my firemaking level was a lot lower and this was before we got access to a bank nearby. I forgot how much fun this can be and I plan to go there again just for the fun (let alone the crafting exp) -

I wear my construction skillcape and I get none of this. Coincidence? I think not. If you went for fletching cape in order to gain pride and respect from others you wasted your time. Cooking/fletching capes are not a big deal. That's just the way it is. If you want to stand out, try going for a cape that isn't owned by over 20k players. Not all skills are equal, not all achievements are equal, not all capes of achievement are equal. In fact some skills are MUCH easier than others, there can be a tremendous difference (not a small difference like some people claim), such as slayer 99 and cooking 99. You really are ignorant, Cooking and Fletching: -cost very little -get a lot of cash back from production -have an "x" function meaning it requires very little attention -are owned by over 20k players (each) -have among the most generous hourly exp rates compared to any other skill Construction: -is one of THE most expensive skills in the game (over 100m) -gets NO cash back from produce -has NO x function and requires 100% focused attention -is among one of the rarest skillcapes, owned by only about 250 players -has less generous hourly exp rate compared to fletching/cooking Since construction is clearly MUCH harder than cooking/fletching in every single way, I must conclude that you have no idea what makes a skill harder than another. Just the fact that you stand in the same spot and level is completely meaningless. Runecrafting can be leveled that way and it is regarded as one of the hardest 99s! -
When I run out of goals or feel that I have done everything. Or just not feel good about playing anymore. I challenge myself to maximize my runescape playtime without sacrificing important stuff in my real life (academically or socially related)
-
This is when no-lifing leads serious consequences. I try my best not to sacrifice my life for this game for that very reason: When I burnout on a skill, I just say "why am I doing this when I could be having fun elsewhere?" You can play 10 hours a day, but once you sacrifice something too important, you feel that training is not worth it anymore, it's not a fun feeling.

What Are YOUR Views On 99 Fletching And Cooking?
Solidus_77 replied to Chelseaboy11_Is_Tom's topic in General Discussion
I don't mind them as a "warm up" or "first 99" but I don't like it when people make it their final goal. Or just use them as a way to be part of the "skillcape owners". There's nothing exceptional about these capes due to their numbers and the motives of the people going for them. I'm also not a huge fan of the "all 99 skills are achievements" idea. 2 weeks spent on an afk skill is not even close to the months of patience and determination needed for some of the hard skills. There are plenty of achievements that are not 99s that surpass 99 fletching/cooking. We know for a fact that some skills are easier than others therefore, some 99s are much harder than others and all the achievements are most certainly not equal. The irony of the situation is that many people go for 99 fletching/cooking for bragging rights or for pride. However those two capes are so widespread that there is really not that much pride attributed to them. In fact people are more often insulted for choosing the easiest 99 capes. In my eyes, these skillcapes are not admirable and it is does not represent incredible determination or patience. It represents "the easy way out". Nothing impressive. I do not really have much respect for people who choose the two dead easiest skills and then proclaim themselves "proud owner of cooking/fletching cape". That's effectively saying "proud to be in the top 20k players". It just doesn't make me feel impressed when someone has gone for a cape that I see so often. I can understand if someone has gone for 99 cooking/fletching as a "warm up" since the first 99 is usually the hardest and I can understand that from a strategic point of view. As long as the person has some goals in other skills past 99 fletching/cooking (and if their other skill is something actually challenging) I can respect them and their choices. Some of you have mentioned jealousy as a reason behind the criticism, that makes sense, and I don't think people should be so openly rude just because they feel insecure themselves. However that jealousy only applies for people who have no skillcapes. Not for people who already have 99s in skills that greatly surpass 99 fletching/cooking. Now, in response directly to the author of the thread This is a blatant exaggeration of the facts. It takes 2 weeks or so to get 70-99 cooking/fletching not 2 months. Big difference. Cooking and fletching simply do not require a great amount of work compared to other skills. Also, you ask who cares if it's easy to get? well that's the point! They have little respect because they are so easy to get. The idea that they are "still two 99s" implies that they are just like the other skills. That's not at all the case, they are far easier than some of the skills out their so no, in fact, they are not "still two 99s". And by "sexy trimmed cape" you should say "a sexy cape just like the 20k other people who have them". Their looks are a matter of taste, their "rarity" is a matter of numbers and they are most certainly not rare. "good", in this case means "easy". We know for a fact that, the easier a goal is to achieve, the less admirable it will be. Therefore, since you point out just how easy these skills are to get you are effectively pointing out how un-admirable they are. No, it's not "just another two capes", the skillcapes amongst themselves are most certainly not equal. Getting 99 slayer holds A LOT more admiration than getting 99 cooking/fletching. You just cannot say the two achievements are equal. Therefore this who idea of all skills being equal or all 99 achievements being equal is just an illusion. They are not equal at all. -
Agree, I believe minigames are the best cure for (short term) boredom. Skills probably shouldn't be an option for the short term since generally skilling is boring. Same for merchanting. Eventually you might want to Quests are also a good thing, if you havn't done them all already. Otherwise, setting goals for yourself will keep you away from boredom for a long time.

Whats the Profitable Part of high lvled <skill>?
Solidus_77 replied to nicrune007's topic in Help and Advice
These skills are used to spend money on more than get money from. 99 smithing is not a big moneymaker either, it use to be but the times have changed. It's not of much use in the way of money. The big moneymaking skill now is runecrafting. Of the skills you mentioned, however, farming is interesting because you can work on other skills while your plants grow. So it's a bit of an add-on to other moneymaking methods. -
just "a skillcape" is way to broad. I couldn't care less for a cooking cape, but I can't describe how much I want a slayer cape. I would choose slayer cape, it's the one I'd have the hardest time getting.

Tripsis, in a way it was thanks to her that I went forth with 99 construction as my "chosen skill" and discovered how much I loved it. Doing so has brought me pride and recognition. She's also the Tip.iter that I would want to be: always friendly and dedicated to answering all the comments to her blog, not to mention in this past year she has gone from being a normal user to becoming mod to then becoming admin! Way to go! Metal heart6, he sparked my interest in dking and monster hunting as a form of combat that I hadn't experienced before (for me, before then, these monster were just out there and I figured I would never bother trying to kill them). If it wasn't for him, I would have gotten bored with rs most likely. Now, I'm glad to be part of GoF monster hunting clan (as long as they can forgive my loooooong absence O:) ). But most of all, a good friend of mine, former rank 6 in prayer, The 2 Oracle. We got 91 rc together, I spent many hours a day running laws with him as we both were on our way to get lots of money. He is ambitious, patient and very good at all skills and understanding the challenges, just like me but even better. He can come to me one day and say "I'm going to make 1 million nats starting today" or "I'm going for 99 herblore now" then he will complete it. His achievements in runecrafting in particular are simply astonishing since he used only the abyss after 91. I hope to be just as dedicated myself.

it's because there are two doors to choose from at that point. Go a little further to find the right one (yes, the door leads back one step but not back all the way). Don't hate the maze, it gives quite a bit of raw materials that you wouldn't otherwise get as easily (unlike some stupid event where you end up working hard for, like, 10 sapphires) just because 100% reward is impossible doesn't make it bad.
-
say what? :-s There's a thread in general forum that goes into great detail about this. It's much better than the previous link that was given to you.

The scrolls are pretty weird. People kill thousands of monsters with no luck, kill a few of another monster and get the scroll. Some say it's just luck, but this seems to happen too often to just be a "coincidence". What you should try is kill 100 of each monster or something like that.

what do you think the most profitable monster is??
Solidus_77 replied to kidurdude's topic in Help and Advice
RoW will help in getting Rune items and other things, but it will not increase chances of an amazing drop, like a Visage or Dragon Platelegs. Also, from personal experience, the Wealth stinks. I wore it and killed 100 Irons with nothing but a Rune Med Helm. Took it off and killed 6 more, got a Dragon Plateskirt. It's all probability, blah blah blah, I personally think a Seers is waaay better than a USELESS ROW. There is no guarantee of getting better drops, it's all based on probability. Just because you took it off and got a dragon plateskirt doesn't prove that the ring is useless. In fact it doesn't prove anything because you didn't do nearly enough trials. Come back when you kill 5k dragons with it on and 5k dragons without it on. Don't listen to people who don't understand how probability works and just stick to the ring of wealth. It's effectiveness has already been proven by jagex and demonstrated (although not proven) by a player who tested it out on abyssal demons and whips. Seers ring is just +4 magic anyways. -
Furthermore, even if 1,2k people have 99 hunter in a year. You can tell, if you've observed the highscores, that way more people have gotten 99 fletching/cooking in the past year, about 8k or so.
