  1. This is great news. I'm glad Obama is changing this country for the better. My Mother was forced by her Catholic parents to have an unplanned child when she was 16, they made her put it up for adoption and now the person wants NOTHING to do with her. That alone is reason enough to let a person choose whether or not they want to have a child. This is a great step in the right direction.
  2. It gets different in high school. She's preparing you for college and I say good for her. Teachers don't care about you unless you care enough to do things on your own and work extra hard.
  3. Hah. Welcome to advanced classes and or college courses. You don't get everything spoon-fed to you. Get used to it.
  4. Culver's is easily the best food chain out there. A better brand of beef makes a butter burger better!
  5. Ah, I see haha. I just assumed Buds was a song by Sublime. It seemed to fit.
  6. I've been following this on IMDb for about a year now. I haven't gotten a chance to see it yet, but it's been Aronofsky's only work since "The Fountain". Although I'm not too happy with the direction his movies are going in. RoboCop (2010), The Fighter (2009), and The Wrestler don't seem to be where he does his best work...
  7. I'm pretty sure that Tool does not have a song called "Acid".
  8. Why on Earth would you say that? There's nothing wrong with traditional grip. In fact, in most cases, it makes your left hand FASTER because there is a natural fulcrum where the stick lies opposed to having to use all wrist and fingers on your right hand. Most, if not all, of the best drummers in the world know traditional grip and use it. Buddy Rich, much? To Abelmisi: That Pearl pad will do just fine. If you want to crack your left hand into shape, put on the metronome to a comfortable speed, and do eighth notes for 10 minutes straight. Watch TV while you're doing it. Practicing on a pillow is also a great way to get your chops in shape because it makes your wrists do all of the work since there is no rebound. Muscle memory is the key. All drumming is is muscle memory. Play something excruciatingly slow until you get it, then gradually speed it up. Repetition makes perfect because once your muscles know what to do, you won't have to consciously think about playing it.
  9. Once again you prove your immaturity and lack of logical reasoning when it comes to presenting an argument. First off, don't try to compare stand-up comedy from the early 1990s to the likes of a piece written during the Middle Ages, that's just way too much of a stretch. Sure I understand that you don't like cynicism, but when Hicks was in his prime, the comedy world was swamped with idiots like Andrew Dice Clay that told nothing but mind numbing, vulgar half punch-line jokes that were solely for shock value. Now put someone on the scene that has actually thought about their comedy more than using vulgarity, and you have someone that becomes a great comedian. Aside from George Carlin and maybe a couple others, no one was saying those types of things even 20 years before his time. You only see them as being regurgitated because in our day and age, they are, but 20 years ago, those weren't too common on the air waves like they are now. Bill Hicks isn't the whiny little baby that constantly cries about how messed up the world was like you portray him. Hicks was simply criticizing the fallacies that are present in our society. Whether you want to interpret that as being "whiny baby" is up to you, but I severely feel bad for you if that's all you can pull out of his stand-up.
  10. Being Politically Correct is a great thing to an extent. There are times where it does offend someone and just because your particular race hasn't been discriminated against for hundreds of year and you're not offended, doesn't mean someone else won't be. It's called having decency and not being an insensitive jerk. I do agree that sometimes it gets out of hand, but for the most part, it's a good thing.
  11. Most of those lists were compiled by comedy critics and fellow comedians, not the average trailer-park viewer. It doesn't matter if you don't need someone else to tell you about authority and Christianity, the fact that he challenges it to a mainstream audience is where respect comes in. You don't have to like him to respect him. Just the same as in music. I hate a lot of bands, but I can respect them for their talent. His ultra-cynical delivery reminds me of your ultra-cynical delivery in every post; unimpressive.
  12. Alright, well, I'll try to make this quite simple. I've been drumming pretty much my entire life. Both drum set and marching snare drum. I play in my own band and I'm on a World Class Independent-A drum line from Minnesota called TCAI (Twin Cities Area Independent). The first thing you're going to want to do is develop basic ground work for your hands. Get a practice pad, any will do for beginning. Do some 8 and 8s. Eight eighth notes on your right hand, then eight on your left hand. ALWAYS USE A METRONOME. http://www.vicfirth.com/education/rudiments.html Here will be your bible for developing your hands in the beginning. Don't expect to be able to play all of them. I literally have hundreds of exercises and over 10 books that I can email you if you want, just PM me. As for getting a drum set, I personally have a 1989 9-Piece Pearl Export Series. It's a beauty and I love it. I would probably recommend something affordable, but definitely not cheap quality. A 5 piece will do. Cymbals I would honestly go used if you can. If there's a Music-Go-Round near you, check that out because they don't sell crappy cymbals there and you can get them for good discount. By the way, Sabian cymbals are NOT bad. They are basically Zildjian's little brother. I personally have played pretty much every brand and type of cymbal out there. Sabians are just fine. Any specific questions, PM me. I'll be able to answer pretty much any question. Oh, and whatever you do, do NOT practice double kick until you have mastered a single bass drum. And tell your tutor to teach you traditional grip ;) It looks beautiful on a kit. Edit: Here's what I'd recommend for a practice pad. The second one (double sided): http://www.vicfirth.com/products/pads.html
  13. It's called get a pair of headphones. Buy some isolation headphones so you can't hear him and he can't hear what you're listening to. My Mom got frustrated when I used to live at home (considering my band practices there as well) so I bought them out of consideration. My roommate particularly likes me having them. Besides, it will probably sound better than crappy computer speakers anyway.
  14. I find it quite funny how you justify almost all of your arguments on here by using "lol" unless you get called out on the topic. Using a deliberately out of place acronym doesn't make what you have to say any more true. You don't use any logic at all. I don't understand how you can have such disdain for a comedian who challenged his audience to use their heads and question norms along with authority while delivering it in a distinctly unique way.
  15. Well Sublime is usually better when you're high, but whenever I'm at a party there is always some sort of giant sing along of "Santeria". I don't really like that song, but meh, whatever. It's good when I'm drunk.
  16. Yeah, Dane Cook is possibly the worst comedian I have ever witnessed take the stage in my life.
  17. I feel very secluded from when I started 6 years ago. I hardly play at all now except to camp Abbies.
  18. Agreed. I have a meeting starting at 8 tomorrow night and I'd rather not know any details about tomorrow night's episode until I watch it online.
  19. I saw it over the holidays and it was genuinely good. The same people that rave about how The Dark Knight was an epic movie are pissed because it's not in German or that Tom Cruise is in it, yet it's a historically accurate movie and not one about a damn super-hero. I absolutely hate Tom Cruise and he did a good job in this movie. There are enough no-name actors that make this movie spectacular. Get over yourself for once.
  20. Maynard isn't necessarily smart, rather just quite clever and just a plain smart-[wagon]. Just because someone is cryptic and offers ideas alternate to the norm, doesn't make them an intelligent person. I would argue that he is somewhat intelligent and quite informed. He's a great lyricist and very clever.
  21. Just watched: Defiance. Interesting movie and was pretty good overall. I'd recommend it.
  22. I thought the best film of the year was In Bruges, at least from what I saw.
  23. The real date that you should be looking forward to is February 24th.
  24. Just think until you come up with something good. You'll know when that happens. It took me a month to think of Ataraxy for my band name.
