  1. Imps in Jars are tradable. Aside from that, nothing I've seen, no. Not implings, these guys.
  2. Has anyone found anything untradeable that this can be used for, such as imp boxes?
  3. Has anyone found any untradeable items that this works for? For example, can you catch imps with it?
  4. That would be stupid, since it's blatantly against the rules, and ridiculously easy to check for. Edit: It's not possibly anyway, you can only help one person at a time. ~q
  5. This is a fair point. (Made by others as well.) It is true that some people DO cheat/hack/whatever.. and they also maintain innocence. And we are left to really wonder, because in the end, we don't know. My problem is that I think the presumption of innocence is important, and that the appeals process should be respected. It seems here like this person was not even given a fair chance.
  6. Nobody is asking for that. As I said in the thread to which I referred, mistakes are to be expected, since we are all human. The problem isn't so much this person being banned unfairly, but the lack of attention to his appeal. The problem is simple: Jagex does not care about individual players, and that is likely because they are not making customer support a priority. To each of us, a character is an investment of hundreds or thousands of hours of time and effort. To them we are just $5 a month, like any newb who signs up for membership tomorrow. As for a "detailed plan" -- providing decent customer support is something thousands of companies are able to do. If they can't figure it out themselves, they can hire a consultant. So basically, they ban people based on flimsy evidence, let them appeal, and then deny the appeal with a form letter because they trust themselves more than the person banned. Why bother with the appeals process at all? Jagex is making money hand over fist. If they can't even devote a small amount of effort to considering the status of a long-time player -- and p mod no less -- then they are sending a clear message: We. Don't. Care. Wasn't referring specifically to you, but there are plenty of them around. Jagex is doing a decent job of making Jagex money. Everything else seems to be a distant, distant second place. ~q
  7. What you are saying basically boils down to saying "I have absolutely no clue about what evidence Jagex does or does not have, but I'm sure Jagex wouldn't have banned him without good reason". Your incredible faith in Jagex's infallability -- despite the many thousands of people who have banned without cause -- wouldn't have anything to do with you being a RSOF mod, now would it? I really don't care if this particular scenario is rare or not. The unfair banning is what is not rare. Jagex employees are human, and humans make mistakes. Banning someone unfairly is understandable, as mistakes happen. Sending a devote, loyal player an idiotic form letter and basically telling him to shove off is NOT reasonable nor acceptable. And if Jagex doesn't take into account loyalty, length of service and being a P mod, then they are complete idiots. Not because those who cheat or break rules should get a free pass based on how long they've played, but because it has direct relevance on the chances that they've made a mistake. Exactly the same as how the police will be more likely to think twice about accusing the pastor of the town's church of being a shoplifter -- why would he? Same here. ~q
  8. That may be so, but legal issues can still be an expensive hassle. Or it may be that Tip.It just wanted to stay on Jagex's good side. I can understand it. (Though I don't really respect it.)
  9. All of the Jagex brown-nosers who don't think there are very good reasons to be upset over the company's totally inept and uncaring CS should tell this guy about how wonderful the company is and how they are "doing their best".
  10. Huh? What do they really have here? From what I can see -- nothing but circumstantial evidence. Do they have any proof that he actually did what he was accused of? Almost certainly not. It's like convicting a guy of murder because both he and the murderer were seen in the same location. It is not "extremely rare" at all -- in fact, it is quite common. The major difference here is that this time they did it to someone who is high profile on a major fan site, and so has an audience to tell lots of people about it. The many thousands of other wrongfully banned people just sink into the silence. ~q
  11. You 'feel his pain'? He did nothing to deserve being banned -- you did. They probably locked your accounts for cheating by drop-trading, which you also just brilliantly admitted to doing right here on a public forum. Ixfd64, I'm sorry to hear about this happening to you. It is this sort of nonsense that motivates people like myself, who are active critics of Jagex's awful customer support and lack of care and consideration for its customers. I hope you can get this resolved. ~q
  12. This is proof of nothing other than you having a very vivid imagination. ;) As an aside, this is a good example of why people always get disappointed with "big" updates -- they imagine them to be far more than they really are.
  13. You're not exactly putting F2P in a good light here.
  14. The number of rares disappearing from the game would be noticed quickly. The prices of the remaining ones would skyrocket, defeating the entire point of the process. If Jagex wanted rares out of the game they could take them out by just replacing them all with some amount of cash or whatnot. They don't need to resort to trickery. ~q
  15. Sorry, doesn't work that way. Sellers and buyers will both find it easier, so there is no reasonable way to conclude that prices will rise. Agree about arbitrage, that's the point. I see no evidence one way or the other about commodity prices. Again, these seem like baseless speculation to me. ~q
  16. Again, the demonizing of all merchants reveals both bias and ignorance. For example, Kilo raises the example of Barrowers hating middlemen. Okay, fine. But they don't HAVE to use them, so why do they? Easy, because merchants let them get cash fast. There's really nothing wrong with that sort of merchanting. Also consider merchants who aggregate small amounts of items. For example, people complain about merchants who buy snap seeds for 30k each and sell them for 40k each. Well, the reason they do that is that they buy them 1 or 2 at a time and sell them 100 at a time. They save the people who want lots of seeds time, and time is money. There will always be a market for this sort of merchanting. Things aren't always black and white.
  17. Since I'm not a braggart like yourself, I never talk about what I own or what I could buy. And I refuse to answer when people ask me. Therefore, you have absolutely no way of knowing what I could or could not afford to buy. Right? It fits well in the pattern of the greed-obsessed merchant, however, that you immediately attempt to place yourself as being somehow superior because you assume I couldn't afford to buy a silly hat. It is this exact attitude that causes overzealous merchants and other insecure ego-driven twits to be despised. ~q
  18. If I had a gold piece for every time I've heard someone bemoan the pending destruction of the RuneScape economy, I could buy a Burger King hat. And then alch it.
  19. Most of the comments here completely miss the mark. There are MANY types of merchanting. Some are perfectly honest and extremely valuable to the game. Others are not. You simply cannot generalize. To those who denigrate merchanting: it arguably requires far more talent and dedication than leveling skills or PKing. To the merchants who wonder why they are disliked: you guys are middlemen. People don't like middlemen, and try to cut them out whenever possible. That's part of what this update is about. And having 10 billion in gold only matters to people who obsess over wealth. To me, going on about having four Burger King hat sets is about as meaningful as bragging that you have a solid gold toilet. How this pans out depends entirely on how it is implemented, but I am inclined to believe that it will eliminate some of the less desirable forms of merchanting. ~q
  20. I think this is true to some extent, but it will have an impact on merchanting anyway. The new exchange is also going to greatly increase the liquidity of certain thin markets, which will make it more difficult for merchants to take advantage of the lone seller who needs cash fast, or the lone buyer who needs an item fast.
  21. I believe there's a clear distinction between merchants who get paid to provide a service, and those who merely take advantage of others, or the inability of the current system to let buyers and sellers find each other. The former are reasonable, because they effectively trade their time for money. The latter are simply vultures, and if a new update puts them out of business, it's good for the vast majority of players and for the game as a whole. ~q
  22. Which rules of the game? It's mentioned in the code of conduct for the RSOF. It's not specifically discussed in the game rules.
  23. This update is going to eliminate a lot of the arbitrage opportunities formerly used by merchants. Arbitrage meaning buying in one market and selling in another. It will also get rid of people who make money by preying on those who don't know what items sell for, or who take advantage of others. That's a Good Thing.
  24. Oh, Jagex cares a great deal about RS -- it's how they make money. It's individual players they don't seem to care a great deal about.
  25. What he said. And I'll note with irony, once again, that it's always the most childish people around here who whine about Jagex "treating them like children". ~q
