  1. Sorry, but you're a bit confused here. Putting in an infinite supply of an item at a particular price doesn't create a *floor* in the price, it creates a *ceiling* in the price. Which means that a shop selling nats for 375 each will have no impact on making the price rise, it will only *cap* the price that anyone could reasonably sell for. Why? Because nobody will pay more than 375 when the shop has them for that price. In order to have an impact on the selling price, there would have to be a shop that *buys* an infinite quantity of an item at a particular level. For example, if shops bought nature runes at 320 each, then that would be a floor in the price -- nobody would sell for less than 320 because they could sell for that to the shop. Edit: Just realized that Solidus made much the same points. Sorry. ~q
  2. Christmas Crackers are discontinued, and they are the only source of "new" Burger King hats entering the game, so the hats are also discontinued. Pointless thread.
  3. Rimmington. (Hey, at least it's quiet.)
  4. I did read it, and my point is that it is being used "figuratively" to mock people who really have very valid complaints.
  5. Again, most people don't "hate" Jagex. Hate is a pretty strong emotion. A lot of people have valid complaints, though.
  6. Donate it to a good charity. Make sure you get a tax receipt.
  7. There are many other things they could do too. They would require substantial effort and MONEY, though. But hey, people are satisfied to say "there there poor Jagex, everyone's always picking on you for no reason" -- so why should they bother?
  8. I don't want to see it "full of complaints", but the opposite isn't good either. Nothing is improved by saying "yay, great job!" -- especially when it isn't true. Granted that not all complaints are valid, but many are. I think a fan site should be independent and objective, and two consecutive editorials defending Jagex strikes me as odd.
  9. Maybe it's just me, but every editorial on Tip.It of late seems to be devoted to kissing up to and defending Jagex. Not only that, but often going so far as to belittle those who criticize the company. This one isn't as bad as the previous one, but on the whole, the trend is disturbing. It really makes the site seem like it is both unsympathetic to valid complaints, and lacking in objectivity/independence.
  10. Runescape is Jagex's game. Jagex is ultimately responsible for the state of the community, based on how they write, market and manage the game. In general, when you create a product that appeals to children and teenagers, and let them interact anonymously, you get immaturity and conflict. If the community is unsatisfactory to mature, reasonable players, it's because Jagex's priority is not to create a mature, reasonable community. Jagex's goal is to expand membership as fast as possible to make more and more and more money. It's really that simple. ~q
  11. If true, it's a technical engine limitation. 255 is the largest integer that can be represented by an 8-bit number (including zero). Frankly, I don't think it's a big deal. Can the GWD bosses be soloed? Sure, but it's COMPLETELY time-ineffective, so there's no point in doing it aside from being able to say "I soloed a GWD boss". Why do you think they put in the "kill 40 monsters" requirement? Specifically to stop people from soloing. Plenty of other ways to make bosses difficult.
  12. Put up a free game that doesn't require any special software and runs on older computers, aim and market it at children, promote it on kids' free game sites, and then completely neglect to supervise it. What could any rational person expect as a result?
  13. It's also the kind of feedback that smart players no longer provide because Jagex can't be bothered to set up a feedback/forum system that allows intelligent suggestions and feedback. Nobody wants to spend energy putting forth useful commentary to have it buried in the muck and mire of thousands of silly whining rants and idiotic suggestions. A long while ago I suggested a new RSOF forum where only good threads would be located, moved there by mods who recognized their value, so Jagex could see these important topics and maybe even reply to them. Of course, my suggestion ITSELF got buried and ignored. The RSOF have become useless for feedback, because Jagex is too busy counting their millions to hire a few people who know how to run a forum to spend time managing them. It all comes down to the same thing, all the time: they don't care. ~q
  14. Pretty much, yes. Words that become overused lose their meaning, and are therefore no longer worth using for anything precise. It's just a generic insult now, like calling someone a "twit" or a "jerk" (or something worse that would break the rules if I said it. ;) ) ~q
  15. By hiring someone from a company whose CS is notoriously bad -- only they screw people over for real money instead of pretend gold?
  16. The answer is very simple. Outside forums have standards and the RSOF do not. In keeping with Jagex's only significant priority -- making money at all costs -- they let anyone post, and bend over backwards to tolerate any and all antisocial behavior. That's why the place is a sewer.
  17. I can only assume that this is a joke of some sort? The Gower brothers alone are worth about 100 million pounds. For them, donating 200,000 pounds -- over three years! -- is anything but impressive.
  18. I personally found this article to be very poorly thought out, naive and sycophantic. Disappointing to see everyone agreeing with it so easily. A few specific points: Java gaming experts, creators of Runescape. It would seem strange that the players of a game could be so critical of the game̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s very creators, but it would seem that there is no shortage of people who wish to take a shot at Jagex. Sure, lots of the criticisms leveled at Jagex are unrealistic. But what the author here doesn't seem to understand is that Jagex often faces the ire of its customers for a simple reason. Jagex puts making money ahead of customer satisfaction. That's the bottom line, and it is the main difference between companies that are well respected and ones that are often abused. Jagex has become so big and successful that it is out of touch with what its regular customers need and want. And that's why people get frustrated and criticize the company. Walk out of Falador and you will see the cluster of level 3s cutting down tree after tree without even flinching. Surly it can̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t be too hard to ban those people? And how about customer support, why does it take 48+ hours to get a simple response from the staff? Clearly Jagex must simply not care about the game, or else they would do something to help alleviate the situation. Basically correct. Money talks, BS walks. When something is important, a company puts money into it; when something is neglected in terms of money, it usually means that it isn't considered a priority. Jagex has shown time after time that its priority is making more and more and more money, NOT addressing the customer service and other issues that plague the game. Pretty soon those servers are paid for but now you need to hire some staff. Staff are expensive, about fifty thousand dollars a year. That̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s fifty thousand dollars that would have been yours if you didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t need to hire them, but you want the game to prosper so you hire them. This is a short-sighted way of looking at things. Staff are not an expense you reluctantly spend money on, they are an essential part of providing a service. That̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s six million dollars that could have been in your pocket. Is it really worth it to double that number just to cut customer service reply time in half? Here's where we get to the naive part. Does this author have any idea how much money Jagex takes in member fees every year? One hell of a lot more than $6 million, that's for sure. Customer service is an essential part of customer satisfaction. Jagex has chosen to neglect CS in order to save money, and as a result, they are the subject of a lot of complaints. This isn't rocket science. Not to mention adding more moderators won̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t fix the problem The problem is that Jagex employees are barely ever seen in the game. They use player mods because they are free, and then hamper them with restrictions so they can't do anything. Again.. their priority is money. For starters, members pay a measly 5 dollars a month to play Runescape. Yes. So? Actually, some people pay more than that. But the point is that Jagex set the price and even at 5 dollars a month, people still have the right to have their account issues dealt with. Jagex is making more than enough money to address these problems. They simply don't consider it important enough to do. There are lots, and I mean LOTS of other companies that provide far better service despite making a tiny fraction of the profits that Jagex does. It's all about intention and attitude. This author is perpetuating Jagex's favorite paradigm, that we the customers are peons who should be grateful that they take our money and not demand anything in return. It's pretty disappointing to see, really. I don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t doubt that those people would try their best to improve the game, but don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t you think the game̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s very creators are trying their best as well? No, I don't. When I read that the Gower brothers are worth something like a quarter of a BILLION dollars in net worth, but I have flustered, exasperated parents emailing me asking if I have any way of contacting Jagex because their kid's account has been messed up for months and they can't get a hold of someone at CS -- no, they are not trying their best. Look at what they spend their money on. Did the game really need a German translation, for example? Was that more important than answering CS queries from paying customers? Have you seen the state of the RSOF lately? What are there, three or four Jagex mods who ever show their faces in there? How about the game? Do you really think Jagex does its best to make itself visible in the game? Amazing how a level 121 player like me has still never seen a single gold crown. Must just be bad luck, huh? This isn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t just true for Runescape mind you, but for any field no matter how large scale. Not to generalize but it seems that many people (including the Editor) naturally seem to feel that they could fix the problems if only they were the ones in charge. Unfortunately, it isn't that easy. It's as easy as giving a damn. That's what it all boils down to. Jagex cares about expanding, expanding, expanding its member base, so they can make more in fees. NOT about spending the money necessary to support and assist those who are already paying. So yes, I could do a better job, and so could many others, simply by being more concerned about quality than quantity. ~q
  19. Because they enjoy the most fun aspect of the game? :? No, because most of them seem to find enjoyment and fun in abusing and belittling others. On the whole, PKers are the worst segment of the legitimate RS community (meaning, excluding cheats, bots, etc.)
  20. Most PKers are immature scumbags. Sorry, that's the way it is. At the Duel Arena I find most people usually are polite, as long as you don't go to one of the over-competitive worlds.
  21. It depends what you are fighting. Most of my slayer assignments now I can use my SGS and don't even need Guthans. Remember that Guthans also is not entirely reliable or predictable.
  22. Here's the problem with bone bolts: they make too many other types of ranged gear useless. Jagex claims that they always try to ensure game balance with their changes, but clearly they didn't think this one through. For example, remember the Hunter crossbow? Getting bolts for it is slow and tedious. Why would anyone bother now? Even regular bows and arrows are pretty much pointless. They need to fix this.
  23. The Sara GS is expensive not just because the boss is hard, but also because for most players who do PvM, it is hands down the best. Even in dueling it is far better than most people give it credit for.
  24. Gone downhill? I've been playing nearly two years and it was below sea level when I started. I used to only go to f2p to sell things like rune scimmys, and now I alch them instead -- not worth it for a few more coins.
  25. Yanille is also good, and much quieter than Varrock.
