  1. I came to the same conclusion as the author of this thread, a while back. Jagex's goal here wasn't just to fight bots and reduce the tedium of buying from shops -- they wanted to take out some of the things that undermine skills. While people complain about not being able to easily buy pineapples right next to a bank/plot or food that heals as much as monkfish for 9 gp, my personal view is that these things cheapened the game. They never should have been there in the first place.
  2. The total number of fish caught on the trawler depends on the number of people on it. You don't get more per person just because you see that number hit 2,000 or whatever -- it is just being split among more players.
  3. They don't ban without proof so it's his fault for behaving suspeciously Don't go through life with such unfettered faith in authorities -- it won't serve you well.
  4. I'm preparing an extensive guide to the Barrows and in the process I calculated out the average expected profit from doing it efficiently. It works out to approximately 350k per hour. So double nats would be better, but it takes a long time to get to 91...

Wait for it to show up in the list, and then when you get in, try to save it to your favorites list. This can be tricky, though!
  6. I would advise starting out with enchanted emerald bolts, as the poison will cut down kill time a great deal.
  7. Just want money fast or want to raise skills? If you just want money fast, herblore components are the way to go. Collect items like potato cactus, wine of zammy, mort myre fungi and so forth. You can easily make 300-400k+ an hour if you do it right.
  8. It is possible to melee them, but very difficult. You really need to have your skill levels in the 90s, and even then it is quite a slow process. After extensive testing, I determined several ways of using melee for the miths. One involves Karils and a d long in stab mode (don't use a whip, they have crazy high slash defence.) This works but is slow. A more advanced method uses Veracs armor, Piety and protection from mage. It is faster but more dangerous. Finally, there is full Veracs. This is the fastest but is VERY dangerous since you will take dragonfire hits of up to 35 at a time. You can find extensive guides and information in my comprehensive mithril dragons guide. ~q
  9. "What say you SoDB?" I say that clarity is a virtue. Try explaining whatever your point is in plain English so we have some clue what it is. ;) ~q
  10. Thanks, oddfaery2. That seems to fall pretty close in with my numbers and the confirmation is useful. ~q
  11. I agree with the article.. in part. It confuses two issues. First is the matter of graphic realism, and here he hits it on the head. No, it doesn't matter to me what the little men and dragons look like, not at all. My first online game was a text-based adventure MUD -- no graphics at all. It was a lot of fun. People who think graphics matter most are the same ones who have to wait for a book to come out as a movie because they lack imagination. The second issue, though, is GAME realism, and here I feel RuneScape is very often lacking. There are too often no consequences for one's actions, like the example given of hacking a man to death in front of a guard. There ARE games where alignment is tracked and if you do evil things then pretty soon you are treated as the evil person you are. There's a glimmer of that in RS -- if you attack townsfolk in Miscellania you lose 'favor', for example -- but not enough. ~q
  12. Then you, like most RS players, have no clue about how economies work. Merchants cannot drive prices down. ~q
  13. Cannon at ice trolls is good XP and makes you money with drops even if you buy the cannonballs. Full description of how to do it via link in my sig. ~q
  14. If Jagex cared more about its customers than its profits they would do something about their abysmal customer support. Simple as that.
  15. As Solidus said, merchants cannot affect overall prices, only the prices of individual sales. The problem with Barrows is simple -- it's too easy. I've actually been Barrowing extensively for the last week trying to find the most efficient technique and I've got it down to a science -- 9 minutes per chest. There are even level 80s doing it. Too easy = too many items in the game.
  16. You people just don't get it. By deciding to sell RS gold for real money, he betrayed people who believed in him to behave with integrity. Same with others who do it. Now, if you think it's okay to do that because having RL money is more important, that's your choice. But don't expect those who believe in following the rules to think there is anything admirable about it. And by the way, there is ALWAYS a way to justify the need for money. It's still wrong. ~q
  17. You're joking, right? "My sister is sick and needs an operation or she'll die and my father just got laid off" = an understandable reason why someone might decide to do RL trading of RS gold. "Uh, I started college and I'm too lazy to make a few bucks to pay my expenses the honest way" = NOT a good reason to decide to do RL trading. ~q You're so naive if you think college is in anyway that easy to pay for, I know of people who pay off their student loans and such until they're in their late 30's or later. Think before you post, saying paying for college is that easy. I never said college was easy to pay for. You are replying to something you imagined, not what was there. There are probably over 50,000 college students on RS who also have to pay for tuition and expenses. What would happen if all of them decided to do the same thing? salim123 said that he sold his RS gold "for a good reason and not just the money". Well, that's wrong. He did it just for the money. And by the way, all of this IS germaine to the topic at hand... this whole preoccupation that people have with "who is rich". It's a warped way of looking at what is supposed to be a game. ~q
  18. This actually is true in the real world, too. Countless examples.. hear about the old guy who sold his baseball card collection for $2.1 mil a few weeks ago? :) ~q

  20. Here's the standard reply I used to give to threads like this on the RSOF, back when I still bothered with that place. -- Why People Hate Pures ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâé 2007 Qeltar 1. Abuse of the Combat Level Formula The combat level formula calculates your combat level from your combat stats, like attack and ranged. Pures exploit flaws in it to create characters far more powerful than their levels indicate. This means normal players with average stats are at a severe disadvantage in PvP. People blame pures for this, but the fault lies with Jagex, for creating a formula that encourages people to make pures. Jagex could fix this but chooses not to ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ if you are unhappy about all the pures, complain to Jagex, not them. 2. Dishonesty Many pures try to hide their combat abilities through tricks like names that can̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t be looked up in the hiscores, to deceive non-pures into fighting them. 3. Immaturity The average pure player is younger and less mature than the average skiller (for example). They are far more likely to behave obnoxiously as a result ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ bragging about how they ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åp00n j00̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
  21. I gained many levels doing what you are considering. But I think I started at around 70 or so. At 60 you may splash a fair bit. You have 70 Def so wear Ahrims, it will help a fair bit. BTW the person who claimed you could kill a dragon every minute is way off in left field. The attack rate for mages is far slower than a cast every second. It's a slow process to mage them. ~q
  22. Your comments seem pretty reasonable. I despise rares and won't touch them but a few comments on the others... A safe spot was discovered at the Bandos bosses, and that's why prices dropped. It's been taken out so that may reverse itself. Godsword prices seem to be mostly stable, and are actually still going up for the two better / more rare versions (Sara and Armadyl). Great item, and the throngs of people killing thousands of black dragons looking for a visage are getting bored and moving on to other things. IMO the main reason is oversupply. Barrows is just too easy, and has been for some time. ~q
  23. Thanks again for the nice comments. Okay, some valid arguments for using the Lunar Island bank. I still prefer my dueling rings though. :) ~q
  24. Everytime you post, I get an strong urge to hit you. :-w Then I must be doing something right. :P Burger King hats and other rares are the RuneScape equivalent of solid gold toilets. Why people are impressed upon seeing them is beyond me. ~q
  25. I think it's a sad commentary on the state of this game that so many people care so much about "who is the richest". Sort of a parallel with how people obssess over the "rich and famous" in the real world, where it is also rather sad. So you have 500 Burger King hats. What are you going to do with them? Sprout another 499 heads? The richest people in RS are those whose friends lists are full. ~q
