  1. The gilded altar isn't just faster -- it's a LOT faster. Remember that time is money. If you level up prayer in half the time you can easily make up the extra cost of a few more bones in the rest of the time you save. ~q
  2. highlanders, it's really very simple. When presented with clear evidence that Jagex is marketing the game to children, some people just hand-wave it away and say, "oh that doesn't matter" and then ask for the same evidence again. That's denial. Most of the people who argue with me do so because they have Jagex on some sort of pedestal and can't stand anyone presenting valid criticisms of the company. That's fine, it doesn't change anything any more than your insistence on following me around attacking my posts all over this forum. Enjoy yourself. :) ~q
  3. Ok where is all this preteen stuff coming from? a preteen is someone who is NOT a teenager (that seems unclear to some, as does the fact that [developmentally delayed] will be [developmentally delayed] no matter the age), they have to blatently lie to create an account which puts it down to them no matter where jagex advertises the game. And Jagex encourages them to lie by getting them interested in the game and then forcing them to lie in order to sign up. Jagex really doesn't give a fig about what age players play the game. The "you must be 13 or over" stuff on the website was almost certainly put there by their lawyers in order to comply with COPPA laws. (Look them up.) It lets Jagex pay lip service to the law while continuing to make money from kids who are under 13 and sign up anyway. Why? Because it's easier and they make more money this way. And making money is pretty much Jagex's primary concern. berbatovsky, like so many other rabid Jagex defenders, is in flat denial. So are the people who "don't see" the significance of this. It's not just "one book" it is the OFFICIAL Runescape guide. They very clearly went out of their way to ensure that as many kids as possible would find out about it and buy it. Runescape deliberately targets children using the book, the cartoonish appearance of the game, the free version, the ease of access using any browser and more. It is played in schools and libraries, and in many cases parents cannot even find out when their kids are playing it. Jagex doesn't care about any of this. They just want their money. ~q
  4. Jagex contacted the #1 leading publisher of children's books in the world. They contracted with a leading children's book author and worked with her to write the Offical Runescape Guide. They are now marketing the guide to 9-12 year olds and selling it through Scholastic book clubs to that age range and younger. That is conclusive proof that Jagex is marketing the game at pre-teens. ~q
  5. Well, that's mature. No, actually, a whole lot of people say it. Those who actually look into the matter rather than reflexively defending Jagex. (Seems to be a lot of the latter around here, though.) I already showed you proof, and you just hand wave it away as "that's no proof at all"? Well sorry but it IS proof. And that guide isn't from 5 years ago, it was published THIS YEAR. Instead of kneejerking like this, why don't you look into the issue? I already have, extensively. Again, you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. Typical, unfortunately. ~q
  6. Mainly by claiming that those under 13 are not allowed to set up new accounts while simultaneously marketing the game towards those same children. This makes their "no under 13" claims little more than lip service to appease their lawyers. They are encouraging children to lie in order to sign up for the game. Then there are other areas.. such as claiming parents should be responsible for their kids' gameplay but providing them with virtually no tools to help them do so; saying they greatly value an online presence when J mods are scarcer than hen's teeth; and a lot more. ~q
  7. How can anyone help you with this? Nobody outside Jagex knows the answers to these questions, and they ain't tellin'. ;) ~q
  8. Oh, nonsense. What are javelins good for? There's not a single monster in the game where you wouldn't be better off with another weapon. Ever see anyone using a short sword? Or a warhammer? These are weapons that need to be tweaked so they are used. ~q
  9. Some companies put quality and loyalty and honesty ahead of doing everything possible to grub for money -- especially when the owners are millionnaires a hundred times over. I'm too cynical to EXPECT any company to be this way, but it sure is nice on the rare occasions when it does happen. Jagex is violating its own principles by targeting this game to children. ~q
  10. The brine saber most likely will be used to kill something in a future update.. they all but said so. Some of the weapons discussed here really are useless in their current state. For example, the javelins -- slow and inaccurate, why do they have dragons drop them all the time when nobody would use them? Maybe to kill something easy on a slayer task but that's about it. On the other hand, Jagex seems to be making an effort to encourage people to not always go for the same weapons all the time. For example, what's the best melee weapon against mith dragons? Hint: it's not the whip. :) ~q
  11. I have 2/3 in maples and 1/3 in herbs. Even though maple logs themselves are hard to sell now, the nests and seeds more than make up for it. Herbs kind of speak for themselves. ~q
  12. You're far better off selling the 3-dose potions. Not only does it save you time, for some weird reason they sell for more per dose. I routinely buy 4-dose p pots for 10k, but it's very hard to find 3-dose p pots for 7.5k, for example. ~q
  13. Merchanting is a dead end. Do things that raise your skills *and* make money.. you've had a few suggestions already. ~q
  14. The difference between most of you folks and the real Jagex is that you care first and foremost about the quality of the game, while Jagex cares about that only second to their primary goal of making money. ~q
  15. See if I can find a good fish and chips stand.. impossible to find on this side of the pond. :D ~q
  16. How do you think you can figure out who is 12 and who is not? And by the way, there is NO rule against someone who is 12 playing the game. There were thousands and thousands of pre-teens who made accounts before Jagex's "must be 13 to sign up" rule. ~q
  17. Oh, they certainly are. Hey, there are plenty of good p mods, but really, do you think Jagex goes through some sort of rigorous screening process? It's an old boys' network... you get made a p mod if you know the right people, pretty much. Sometimes that works well, and sometimes it really doesn't. ~q
  18. World 2, Falador, just northwest of the east bank near the fence. ~q
  19. Does it matter how many times people tell a lie? It's still a lie. Written by Jagex employees, copyright by Jagex, targeted directly at schoolkids. ~q
  20. Notice that Gower didn't say RS was "not targetted at kids" but rather that it was "not targetted just at kids"? That's not an accidental choice of words. Look at what they do, not what they say. I offer the following into evidence (more here): ~q
  21. 99.999% of pkers will flame you for any reason Why would anyone leave public chat on when going into the Wild? :wall: ~q
  22. Why not buy something that you will actually use, will help you have fun or raise skills? ~q
  23. Crafting is one of those skills where you choose either fast or cheap, but not both. My suggestion for you is rings of forging. Buy some rubies and gold bars (cheap) and cosmics and go for it. Good crafting and mage XP and you can easily sell the finish the final product for more than the supplies cost. ~q
  24. A lot of people don't realize that they heal poison.. useful if you need a quick heal without wasting a whole potion or a bank slot on a potion with 2 doses. ~q
  25. Jagex is a company where the right hand usually doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Remember the luring fiasco a few months ago? Half the mods were saying luring was legal and half were saying it wasn't. I would NOT follow your advice. Be smart and do not mention website names in the game, period. ~q
