  1. I have just finished reading the 3 parts to the excellent article by Monogamy and must comment. I was a leader and co-leader of SpiritZ for close to a year and I can attest to all the heart ache and exhilaration that Damian writes about. The fact that we become torn between what we know is proper and best for the clan, I think becomes secondary. Damian, although he writes about it and illustrates dramatic tension between himself, his friends and his girlfriend, ultimately tries to do what is best for his Clan. This is what I always tried to do, and what we all wanted to do as Leaders in SpiritZ. Sometimes, we had what seems now like endless debates that went on for weeks; good and evil. Timeless struggles about right and wrong. It may seem utterly laughable to outsiders, but the fact that we are not just fighting over mere pixels but we understand that we are deciding the fates of people on the other end of the screens must be taken into account. At the end of the day, we are not callous. We're not just jaded people and we're not babies. We're grown men and women, lots of us are in our fifties and sixties (Egad!) and a few of us are across the pond. Raise a glass in your honor, ladies and gents. To the age of Runescape and chivalry! Huzzah!

  8. I died when our good old friends, the Dark Wizards of Delrith attacked me as I was exploring, like the first or second day I played. I didn't know the difference between NPCs and players and for a few weeks I ran away from any players I didn't know. Oh, and for months afterward, if I went to Varrock, I always ran full speed past the Wizards. Now, at lvl 72, I routinely go and kill 'em; I'm still getting revenge.
  9. Banned for saying this isn't a free country. *Thought Police knocking on your door*
  10. I'd ban the word "h4ck3d," as in "Fr33 st00f pl0x, I'v3 b33n h4ck3d!" ... Hmm, come to think of it, I'd ban the whole damned phrase.

  13. True: it's as loopy as the Teaching Hospital I worked in during undergrad studies... TPUM has 7 cats, 4 dogs, a ferret and a tank of fish.

  16. This is an interesting topic and it sent me on a word association hunt. "Revenge" is closely linked to "retribution" which according to the Online Etymology Dictionary means: "from 1382, "repayment," from L. retributionem (nom. retributio) "recompense, repayment," from retributus, pp. of retribuere "hand back, repay," from re- "back" + tribuere "to assign, allot" (see tribute). Sense of "evil given for evil done" is from day of retribution (1526) in Christian theology, the time of divine reward or punishment." While in the same Dictionary, revenge means: "1375, from O.Fr. revengier, from re-, intensive prefix, + vengier "take revenge," from L. vindicare "to lay claim to, avenge, punish" (see vindicate). To avenge is ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åto get revengeÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
  17. Wow, I just had to add to this; what a great story. I can actually believe your Statistics and Probabilities teacher came up with an odd example to illustrate the mathematical probability; mine did the same when I was in College. Only thing is, back in the early 90s, he used Poker and dice as the models. I don't think RS was around then. Having said that, my husband and I are in our 50s and we both play RS. We have several friends and clan members who are in their 40s and 50s. I work from home and I free-lance as a professional violist around Florida. If I ever mentioned I play RS to any of my musician colleagues, they would have no idea what in hell I was talking about. I also work from home supporting customers and the company I work for is very diverse. Everyone I work with works from a home office and we're all in different states. Me fellow employees range in age from their 20s to their 60s, so it's a pretty broad group. We're all pretty computer savvy, too. We have a company website that's the equivalent of the "water cooler" and just last week, while I was browsing their forums, I came across a thread for WoW players, so naturally, I started up a thread for RS players. Hmm, seems there are quite a FEW of us elderly (jk) folks who play either RS or WoW and so now, of course, there's a rivalry of sorts... at my WORK, for God's Sake! :XD:
  18. If you go to Florida, a must see are the Everglades and the Keys, located in the Southern part of the state. This is coming up on the "Season" though, so hotel prices are liable to be expensive. A visit to Clearwater Beach is recommended, or Sanibel and Captiva Islands, which are located near Fort Myers, on the Gulf of Mexico. Miami is fun, but crazy and extremely expensive. I hesitate to mention Orlando and Disney World, "The Happiest Place on Earth!" or as I like to call it "Mauseschwitz" because it's extremely commercial and expensive, but some folks like manufactured experiences. If you're looking for work in the Food Services/Hospitality Industry, there are plenty of jobs to be had in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa Bay and Jacksonville areas. Anyway, welcome to the USA!
  19. I love you because you are of Hungarian descent.
