  1. Maybe if you were sitting on the couch watching a movie, one of these would be amazing. :P
  2. The trackpads on their notebooks are simply amazing; I could never switch back to a Windows laptop just for that reason. However, trackpads are intrinsically limited in functionality, especially when it comes to games. I would never buy a trackpad for a desktop, certainly not a $70 one.
  3. Which generation is it?
  4. Jailbreaking wasn't illegal beforehand anyway, so there is no need for that tidbit. ;) And it is not possible to brick the iPod Touch. If you restore it through iTunes, it will update to the latest firmware. If you put the iPod into DFU mode, you can download the firmware file from felixbruns, shift click the "restore" button, and direct iTunes to the ipsw file. However, I do not believe that you can downgrade the firmware at all, as I believe that you must have a signed firmware from Apple. As such, you must have the version you had before you got your device stuck. If your device was jailbroken with Spirit, you were probably on 3.1.3. If your device was jailbroken with Blackra1n, it was probably 3.1.2, but it could have been any number of versions. But who knows.
  5. Moved to Tech & Computers. :)

  7. Hah, I do that too. And if you try and quell your laughter you end up squealing or making some other really stupid noise. It's embarrassing sometimes.
  8. Then I would suggest Handbrake and have it convert the video(s) into the iPhone format.
  9. Dunno where it is on Windows, but you'll have to find this option in iTunes.
  10. You could try putting the iPod into DFU mode and seeing if it'll recognize it after that. If it still will not, I would uninstall and then reinstall the latest version (9.2.1) of iTunes and try again. If that still does not work, I would ring up Applecare (providing you still have phone support; within 90 days of purchase if you did not buy the extended warranty). EDIT: 3,000 posts.
  11. http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/06/verizon-confirms-droid-tethering-cost-will-ask-subscribers-to-d/ An extra $30 if that article is still valid.

Yes. They are having a press conference today about the iPhone 4, hopefully regarding the antenna. If they give consumers that same crap about "hold it differently" then this phone is going back on Monday.
  13. It might turn the affected area blue. Unless it is only elemental silver that has that property.

  15. I'm inclined not to believe it. Musclenerd, a member of the iPhone Dev Team, said that that it was seeminlgy nonsense.
  16. This. Why should we hide who we truly are? Because I don't go around saying PROUD TO BE STRAIGHT or STRAIGHT PRIDE. You must understand how annoying it is. Despite being exactly like everyone else, they feel the need to single themselves out which is probably the cause of discrimination based on sexual orientation. The idea of singling oneself out goes back to my point about needing attention. This sounds horrible to say, but I really believe it's just an act. If it's not an act, prove me wrong by behaving like regular members of society. You can keep your orientation, of course, just don't go in the streets and shout it - I don't care what someone's orientation is, it makes no difference to me. For instance, if I coordinated a rally saying "Yeah we're all Asians," would anyone care? No, no one cares. Not because they're racist, but because it means NOTHING to them that we are Asian. We're all human. Stop discriminating yourselves if you don't want to be discriminated against. I really don't see where you're directing you're animosity. I don't go around telling people that I am gay, but when it comes up I will tell them. If I feel oppressed by my peers or society in general, I'll be the first to say that I am proud to be gay. Likewise, you don't go around telling people that you're straight, but if you were asked I am sure that you would respond appropriately. I am truly not sure where you're getting this idea that homosexuals go around screaming that they fancy members of the same gender. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Quite often homosexuals are emotionally, sexually, and expressively repressed. When one comes out of that closet, it's much better to feel a sense of pride rather than guilt. You're to the extent of stereotyping an entire group of people and frankly that worries me.
  17. It doesn't and has never worder that way. Capacities have never doubled at a flat rate. If that were true, we would see Intel SSDs with twice the size each release. Moore's law is a guideline and only follows a long-term trend. The iPhone is $200. The norm for most modern smartphones in $200. And the 3G was $300 ($400 at launch) cheaper than the 2G with better capabilities. So when they launched the 2G, they should have said, in three years, the software is going to outperform what the hardware is capable of? They couldn't have possibly thought of every possibility that the market demanded, and as such, what they developed.
  18. This. Why should we hide who we truly are?
  19. I thought you wanted a white one (and that whites are only going to be released later?)? Anyways, i'm still contemplating whether I should drop 700$ on an iphone and have the freedom to switch providers (if I ever do research abroad then by being signed with a contract i'll be doomed) or save some money by singing a 3 year contract with Telus, I haven't had any trouble from them for 4 years. I did, but I'm moving soon and wanted the phone to last me through the long trip. The colour was a minor thing and while I would have liked the white, the black does suits me just fine. $700! It's a great phone and all, but I'm not sure it's worth $700.
  20. What is up with these calls on the US!?
  21. Religious communities hold legislative power in the men and women who represent the majority.
  22. Depends on your carrier. The only reason that they are subsidizing is because you're in a contact. If you pay the off-contract price then you're free to leave at anytime without an ETF. However, AT&T (and others) requires the iPhone to have a data plan, regardless of contract status. What you can do is buy an GSM phone with a SIM card, ring up the cellphone company (on a landline) and have them activate the SIM number with a plan for talk and text. You can then put the SIM card in your iPhone and use it without data. This only works for a little while until the company realizes you're on an iPhone. This is done by recognizing the IMEI that is given to each phone, and this cannot be altered (it also happens to be illegal). It's not a good method and not one I would rely on.
  23. Blackberry perhaps? The problem with that example is that each individual carrier decides which phones get which updates, not RIM. It becomes even more confusing when you see that Verizon has the latest firmware update for the Storm, but AT&T does not. In any case, here is a list of devices with their corresponding firmwares and it's no different than what Apple does.
  24. I don't understand, then. 128MB of RAM in a phone was great three years ago. In fact, it was downright unheard of. Now the iPhone 4 has 512MB. I don't understand how you're saying that Moore's law plays a part in addition to Apple crippling their technology. Every company does this. Intel does it with their roadmaps, Samsung does it with their NAND flash, LG with their displays, etc. They could have put 256MB of RAM in the 2G, but it was already what, $600 (w/o subsidy)? It's like the people pleading for a 64GB iPhone model at $300 - it's not going to happen without a bump in price. Google is the closest you get to offering OS updates for smartphones (Nokia's Symbian, WinMo?), hence the mention. Samsung and RIM don't even offer OS upgrades for devices one, two or, three years old. Heck, most people are lucky to even get one. In my opinion, Apple should be up there with Google as far as OS support goes.
