  1. I think you misunderstood me. I was saying it was pointless going down into infinite detail about "conciousness" etc... because it is very hard to change a persons beliefs. Because of what they "feel". It's hard to describe. And, I didn't really get your tone. Condescending ? Placating ? Annoyed ? What are you saying ? Can you make it clearer for me ?
  2. I think what you all are doing is pointless. Ill attempt to address three things in my response. Firstly how hard it can be to define life and its origins, then following on from this Ill explain why going to such extreme lengths of physical deconstruction is futile and lastly my views on the human consciousness. You can simplify and simplify but the honest truth is, and which no one can deny, is that all we are an ordered collection of Hydrogen, Carbon and Oxygen and every single moment or reaction or feeling is nothing but a series of interactions between these molecules. Take the very primitive earth, and now, to look back and define what is living and non-living is very difficult indeed. Take prebionts essentially a molecular epidermis of a head and two tails that are chemical precursors to life. It is a phospho-lipid bi-membrane that due to the polarity of water is an exchange of chemicals. The head being hydrophilic, and the tails being hydrophobic. And so what occurred was a natural arrangement of these particles, essentially long chains of hydrogen and phosphorus in a type of net. Remember these were actually chemical precursors to life. The Miller-Urey experiment proved this. However, the actual reason for this jump is still unknown. Are you seeing what Im trying to get at here? So, from a biologists point of view, anything that is living in our most human sense is something that has metabolic pathways for aerobic respiration but then again, about 3 billion years ago when the first cyanobacteria appeared in the form of stromatolites, the first oxygen was produced. But! But, before that 3 billion mark there were still organisms that lived. So in essence what Im trying to say is; that our very definition of life is not static and depends on the environment. Ok, now to breaking the human body down you get collection of fats and other compounds known as sterols, nucleic acids and proteins. This is basically it. And theyre all made of the same thing, over and over and over again. If you whittle down, dont be surprised by what you find. There is no point in simplifying to this extent, because basically its useless. Every thought, emotion, feeling and reaction is a collection of chemical pathways that trigger around your body. Everyone knows that. But to truly define what makes us us is something I have no idea about. No one does. Would you be able to make a human by piecing together C-H-O-N-P ? Sure, but, would he or she have a sense of self? Again, the reason goes back to why this is futile. No one knows whether it will or will not happen, the fact remains that because we do not know specifically know the markers [easiest way I can explain] for human emotion we can never replicate them. So, be happy to be you and dont ponder. Now, onto the consciousness. How can it be defined I dont know. Can it be proved ? No. Because it cannot be quantified, we are puzzled. Again, flipping back the brain. Relays electrical signals down tractal axons all over your body. Then how can we be sure what our brain is sending to use is accurate ? Did I not just now touch this desk ? See the keyboard in front of me ? All our brain is the sum of our senses, an intermediary if you will between the world in our head and the world outside our head. So, trying to define it, what, who, where, when, and how is pointless because our conscious is subjective because it is our conscious. Suppose then, you had the choice of reading what I wrote. While the neurochemistry in your brain reacted with the external environment in a singular and particular way, concurrently these chemicals generated a lie known as free choice. So are we wholly influenced by our external environments ? Much like the prebionts and their polar attraction to solvents in water? I do not think so. But I do not know for sure what happens beyond death. And I dont think anyone will ever know. I'll add more later.

Why do you hate the weekends so much? Because I keep digging and it keeps getting deeper and deeper.
  4. Marilyn Manson - The Fight Song I've found a new favourite song.
  5. i_love_burritos replied to Leoo's topic in Off-Topic
Anyway, LIFE IS JUST GREAT FOR ME. Yeah, subtlety . Work is never ending, friends are few and far between and well, weekends shouldn't be named so. I to do about 4 - 5 hours a night to stay on top of everything. And obviously, I only manage 3 hours. And then it's a cumaltive effect. Which means I have to pull the all-nighter once a week. And I spite the weekend. You people are probably not even that interested. Neither is anyone else. Like I'm trapped in a bubble and I can only get out by making another one. Funny how it works... Only a few years left.
  6. People who walke really slowly on pedestrian crossings. It's almost as if they're actually trying to get run over. How I hate those idiots. Today I saw this couple - maybe early 20s - walking so [bleep]ing slowly, I swear I was right behind them, I wouldn't have a problem pushing them in front of the road and let it fly. I'm surprised that the motorist didn't nearly turn them into ashphalt. I think at one point they even stopped in the middle to have a small chat.
  7. See, having all these "deep" and "meaningful" conversations back and forth makes it difficult to jump in. We've reached a far end now. What have you done ! Me, I put "other" both times.
  8. There was a really good site called SpliceMusic, but recently "dissapeared". Perhaps a few months ago. That was really good for making synthetic music. I tried using that for a while and it was quite enjoyable. Sadly it's gone now. Try using maybe a free version of Cubase ? Fruity Loops is also good.
  9. How2PK, what is your native speaking background ? Also, how do you come across these obscure movies ? I'm asking because they might be very well known or common in your homeland. Those foreign films you post everywhere are starting to make me curious. And what language are they usually in ?
  10. Yeah, I found the thread. Too bad I don't know anything about putting hardware together. :?
  11. Hehe.
  12. They're only 250 mls !!! Oh wait, you're American. Enjoy your imperial system ! Wha-pish ! :D But, just as a general question ; who here puts gratuitous amounts of sugar on thier cereal ? For the past week I've been eating Cornflakes so that doesn't count. And I've got a breakfast rotational roster, if you're wondering.
  13. Now that you mention it, it would also be pretty interesting to have a poll for religion specifically. :) It would be actually. I've always assumed that at least a decent portion of TIF was atheist, but I never realized it was 60%. Then again I wonder what the results of this poll would be if it were posted in the runescape section. Or, as I posted somewhere else, earlier ; [hide=]All the cool kids on the OT block are dumping down the RtotheEtotheLtotheItotheGtotheItotheOtotheN Coz' we all wanna hip, yo' You dawgs hearing me fo' shizzle ? Can't get into all dis' HESUS [cabbage]. Yo' feelin' me ?[/hide] I don't think this is really an accurate representation of what people feel.
  14. Yeah, I sympathize with you there. I don't really like that type of feigned humour either. Much like Lenin's humour. :P
  15. You have details ? I want. You can search around T&C for the thread (just search like $400 PC or "cheapest gaming computer" or something), I remember us talking about it a while ago. Me and Ultima Managed a build which was like $380 a while ago. Granted a lot of those parts are probably out of stock now so you may have to switch it around a bit, but it was a solid machine. So you physically built it together with Ult ? You live near each other right ? Virgina ? Ok, cool. I'll do that.
  16. You mean besides the anachronisms and the [cabbage]ty filmaking ? Not to mention the perverted mix between, RAUUGHGG ! and "language". It's got to be one or the other. :notalk:
  17. It never ceases to amaze the sheer number of anime "out there". I presume some of the things you watch - Racheya in particular - would be considered on the fringe, even within anime circles. I mean, I haven't about 90% of the stuff you guys talk about. Only ones I know, are the mainstream ones, like Bleach and Naruto. And the more obscure series, I have only been introduced to by my friends.
  18. You have details ? I want. On Topic ; besides what has already been suggested, I'm asking have you ever really sat down with them and had a real talk or discussion ? I seriously doubt that they're so impudent so as to not even understand what they're restricting. Why don't you read up on things such as internet security, how it is relevant to your situation as a 15 year old and why you are responsible and can be trusted. Then when it comes to the talking - you can destroy them. Unless of course they're prudish and troglodytic philistines technology-wise, and say no - in which case, I wish you luck in the future. Because no one can help you.
  19. Yeah, but if you keep them on for too long this mouldy, crusty layer forms. Not saying it's bad - actually it's strangely satisfying to rub in between your toes and "roll" it out. Just saying. Starts to smell after a while. That's just gross. Could you not? Oh and that's never happened to me. Stop lying. Everyone has enjoyed doing that at one point. Everyone. I could go on in articulate and infinite detail about certain bodily functions and people's reactions to them - that I find either enjoyable, disturbing or entertaining. Your choice ! Ooooo, carry on? :D i wanna here more of this conversation ;), more importantly, I want to hear "articulate and infinite detail about certain bodily functions and people's reactions to them" :D should make a new topic  So - above or below the belt ? To stay on topic, as to not anger Rainy, I love : those juice box things. Too much sugar and too little fruit juice in them though.
  20. Haha, circle [bleep]. That was funny. And I agree with you on that one. Take Lenin for example. Nearly 2 years in and 6055 posts. Most of which are just random and sometimes plain weird. However Rebdragon is actually hilarious. Watching him tussle with idiotic users is a form of entertainment in itself. Nobody is funny on TIF. Not even me. What tone is this exactly in ? My general rule of thumb is - "if there isn't a smiley within 2 sentences of it, it's usually bad". I don't like where this is going. :| And, I'm funny. You just don't realize it. :shame:
  21. Hey, calm down. Laura is just fine. The fact that she is always so serious, is well, can be seen as a good thing - at least on OT. But yeah - she scares me sometimes. It's herself and she appears to be holding a necklace or something around here neck. It's blue in colour Her signataure has a blurred background with David Beckham in it.
  22. Remember the time we had that soup? That was brilliant. Soup! Soup! A tasty... Soup! Soup! A spicy, carrot and coriander... ...chili chowder! Crouton! Crouton! Crunchy friends in a liquid broth. I am gazpachio... OH! I am a summer soup... Mm! Miso! Miso! Fighting in the dojo. Miso! Miso! Oriental prince in the land of soup! Classic times. Crazy days... Crazy days indeed. I miss those days. [i'm reminiscing here, don't take notice of me]
  23. i_love_burritos replied to Sam's topic in Art and Media
I like it. Gets kind of bland after if you look deeply at it. But that's good in a way.
  24. Both are 52. Why? I just thought you had some interesting choices. :)
