  1. True, but what I meant was that he'd get more items per bar, so if you had the same number of knives/bolts/darts/arrows, you'd have more arrows per experience (per bar) that you could use or sell. EVEN if the other items were higher priced, you're getting at least 50 percent more arrows than bolts (and as mentioned, fletching experience). Of course, if he's already gone the iron route, it's a moot point.
  2. I am a quest-aholic, too. My recommendation is to just keep putting penguin points in there. It will take you a couple of weeks per level, but training it is just so boring. Definitely try and get the volatile/morphic hammers if you plan on training it at all...mine or buy gold ore (or get it from daily trips to find meteors) and smelt using the gold gauntlets from the Family Crest quest. You might tell from my stats that at the moment of this post, I'm only 68 smithing. I was around 61 when I decided that I needed to get to 69 (among my other goals). Since then, I've poured my points in there, smelted steel when I had the iron ore (coal from MTK) and the odd mithril bar. I also chose to smith mithril hastas when I could, since it gives the experience of two mithril bars for one mithril bar and one maple log. It's the second most tedious skill to level (in my opinion) behind herblore. After I get to level 69 in smithing, I will probably switch on and off between those two skills in order to get to level 73 smithing (for the achievement diary in varrock) and herblore (until I can make antifire potions for myself) and maybe prayer (though I hate doing that since I can get dragon bones easy and grind 'em or POH altar them), maybe construction, or...i don't know, something else like runecrafting (another one I hate to train). Penguin points...smelt everything you have already...mine iron or find someone powermining to get it from for free (with a beast of burden and the Oo'glog pools and a teleport of some kind, you can bank lots of iron in a short amount of time) or mine mithril or gold yourself. Stay away from junk, unless you're going to use those iron knives yourself to train...heck, why not make steel and cannonballs if you want to make a little cash? Or steel arrows for yourself? Arrows are actually better...more experience per bar than knives (since you get 15 arrowheads and less knives and darts and bolts). You can also get some fletching experience. Yes, I've thought a lot about this...
  3. The table is IMMENSELY helpful. It covers my question precisely. I think I've seen this table used in other questions since mine, too. Good call. Tip.It could use a table like this on the site under slayer. The info there isn't bad, but this is so much clearer to me.
  4. I just saw a penguin materialize in front of me while on the Returning Clarence side-quest (in Brimhaven, World 124). I "spied" on it and it worked...however, I already spied all ten penguins last Wednesday...did they reset early? Usually it takes until mid-day Wednesday (in the EST US).
  5. Bring an anti-poison potion as well. Decent food and prayer potions (6 or 7). Turn it off before you start talking to someone for the quest (so you can save it). Study the guide before you take off, so you know where you're going before you have to run there. Once you get the gree-gree, things become much easier. Make sure you get all the items you can get on that first trip so you don't have to go without one for long. Research it well and you should be alright...don't be afraid to teleport out and try again...it will be a pain, but it's better than dying.
  6. Do you have to do the RfD Evil Dave part to get to do the Shadow of the Storm one?
  7. Should I "Mazchna" the first nine and then "Sumona" the 10th (and 50th)?
  8. It's in the zoo, but it's really not in the guide? Do you have a picture? You'll get credit! In fact, take one (since you probably haven't finished that clue). Seriously...take a picture of it and post it here. EDIT: Actually, it IS in the guide.
  9. This past weekend, I managed another 150+ trip in Tears of Guthix, but it didn't seem to add nearly the number of experience points into Summoning as in the past. Perhaps once you get to a certain level, the experience gets tougher to "multiply" with those types of mini-games. Certainly, the penguin hunting is starting to feel less useful (though it is still clearly a mandatory weekly task!). Saturday night while slaying Jellies, I reached level 59 in the Slayer skill. Finally, Back To My Roots has become available! I started it as soon as I had to bank, but I'm not completely sure that I want to tackle that for my weekly quest point. What I may do instead, is wait for Tuesday's updates to see what happens. I was able to advance a couple of additional levels in combat, too. [hide=Combat! (Melee skills hit 72)][/hide] It's true...Tuesday has become one of the most exciting days in my week! I look forward to the updates (or even just a new note on the RuneScape main page) more than anything else going on right now. Do I need to get a life? Well, I have one, but it's so much less exciting. Perhaps that's sad... I've been updating this blog and the goals in it in order to have a place on the internet where I can store those goals. One of the things I want to do is make sure that I complete all the side-quests and make note of the daily and weekly repeatables. Some of those have gotten mixed in with one-time only tasks, which makes it difficult to remember which ones I have left and which ones I can do each day. I need to organize those tasks a little and plan out my next few levels. I will have to check smithing, since I could wait until after the penguins reset before choosing this week's quest and maybe finish Rocking Out instead. Since I've started Back To My Roots, the Returning Clarence side-quest can be completed at any point and it doesn't mean I have to finish it. Desert Treasure is such a big quest (and I don't need the quest points or the magic spell book) that I want to save it. Haunted Mine kicked my rear a couple of times, so eventually I have to re-visit that final battle. I expect to advance another farming level soon...it's been the most steadily trained skill, only because I make a run every day. I don't ever want to get into a power-levelling situation with it, since it seems to take so much time without really giving many benefits (and it's not like I can hurry along time). I will reach 20 completed tasks in slayer today. I'll also try to resume my daily air battlestaff creation in order to start building back up my bank...I want an abyssal whip!
  10. It's worth noting you can use a combat bracelet to teleport to the guild when your done with a load of yews and/or just banked your yews. If I remember right, you can recharge the bracelet in the legends guild so you only need to have one. No, you're probably thinking of the Champions' Guild. The Legends Guild doesn't have a teleport, unless you count the fairy ring. In any case, you'd still want multiple combat bracelets to save on recharging time. Come to think of it, why DON'T the Legend's guild and Hero's guild have teleports...those aren't as good as the Champion's Guild? It's F2P! It seems to me that perhaps the Legend's Guild could have some kind of teleport device...even if it was to crumble after a certain amount of uses...
  11. Depends on your world access and bank access...i think the spots have been covered...plant yourself a magic tree (if you can, I'm not able to look at your stats at the moment) in the Gnome Stronghold...that should be the best place for that tree...and the yews if you can only plant a Yew there.
  12. Well, I never understood the value of junk to anyone either. I try to get the item without paying junk whenever possible. It can be done (in most cases) and junk is usually involved when someone wants the thing real bad...and if they're willing to buy it for 'x' amount of junk, they're probably willing to by for 'y' more or even 'z' more. Sometimes getting the junk can be just as much effort as finding a buyer/seller at GE price!
  13. You trade in the tokens you have and keep trying to trade it for a blue square. It "cycles" through all the possible things you can make with whatever tokens you use to try and get new ones. They all have a "number" value, so find out what makes a blue square (or a blue square and a lesser color and shape or multiples) and put those into the exchanger.
  14. I'm with you Imamonkey...combat potions are useful, sell well, and not that hard to farm if you have done the Spirits of the Elid quest (since you can use the town shrine and the water fountain after). I, too, hate losing money on anything. You of course have to be able to MAKE those potions, but if cost is a factor, make what you can...if it isn't, make the highest potion you can. The worst thing would be to have tons of potions you can't unload on the GE. I'd stick to good sellers, even if you don't care about the costs. Oh, and anytime you get a book or genie lamp, use it on herblore...same with penguin points.
  15. Eh, tan 'em yourself...and why don't you high alch the stuff?
  16. Check out the skill guides...maybe even do a search on the net for some other ones if you can't figure out the best way to advance. Seriously...the guides on here are awesome and most even have levelling tips (like to get from 1-30, 30-50, 50-65, etc.) Tip.It became my primary source for stuff RuneScape a long time ago and with the exception of a few mods who from time to time exert too much control, this site is the most enjoyable one to belong to.
  17. Ha ha ha! Actually, this post might help explain the benefits to some newer players (F2P) that are thinking about becoming a member. LOL...asked the question a year ago!
  18. You know what? I had that SAME exact goal. I'd say, if you're ready, just do it. I have an old post that describes this exact thing, but looking back, there is so much that can help you earlier: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=725347 I would instead stockpile some things that will allow you to advance a bunch of levels really early on in some P2P skills. Cut a ton of logs, oaks, willows. Go forage for a bunch of planks (though you really don't need to, I did...probably 100 or so). Start looking over member skill guides and see if you can collect any materials in F2P that will help you get through a bunch of levels quickly. Some of the first quests you'll want to do will be area access ones...look through to see which ones will open up areas and see if you can get your F2P skills to that level before you join...that way you won't have to wait to do those quests and wait to access more of the game. Don't go buying up lots of crazy stuff...save that money until you really get a big grasp of what you need to make it...if you need help or have any questions at all, PM me and I'll answer as best as I can. I'm not the best RuneScaper, but as I said, I seemed to have your same ideas about the game right before joining, which was only a couple of months ago and as you can tell from my stats, I made level 50s a goal, too. I would say make an "all 30 or 40" goal, but 50 is kind of a grind....then when you get to be a member, you'll have SO many new ones to level up that you'll just go mad if that's your big goal. In fact, you can check out my blog (which I started on the cusp of my last level 50) about that! It should be in my sig... EDIT: Oh, and in member's you can do some repeatable tasks to get free experience...at higher levels, it may not matter that much, but at low levels, stuff like the Tears of Guthix, Penguin Hide & Seek, Falling Stars and the mini-games are BIG. You may find a mini-game you'll like to play, too.
  19. Somebody will probably say neither (and throw out a godsword recommendation or something), but to answer your question, I'd say dragon longsword...though you didn't mention dragon dagger (with poison). You don't get experience for the poison hits, but it helps mow through some enemies quicker which I think helps keep me interested when training it.
  20. Just completed my 19th task in a row with Chaldear...she seems to give 10 points per completed task. For # 20 should I go to Sumona? I'm not yet 100 combat, so Duradel is out. Do they give progressively better points as you go up the "Slayer Master ladder"? What kind of bonus can I expect from completing my 20th with the highest slayer master (points-wise) that I can use?
  21. The problem with the regular logs is that it has to be cut from a normal tree within the village. Not many people are going to use that function, but it is one of the listed "rewards" for the headband. I think the iron arrows point has been well-documented, though I used bronze. The major thing was that people were using longbows of all different kinds, not normal ones (regular log longbows).
  22. I know it was in the announced RuneScape updates, but I think there are a number of places that the Ring of Dueling can now be placed into guides around the site. For one, the Fist of Guthix teleport now takes players near not just one, but THREE beacons used in the All Fired Up mini-quest/mini-game. I have also started using it if I need a teleport (not involving the balloon network) near North Varrock, not too far from the sawmill (and FoG has a bank). It also makes using coifs and berserker shields and runecrafting and herb gloves more desirable, since the teleport makes the trip there a little less of a hassle. The listing for it should be checked anywhere it was previously used (such as in Getting Around) and I think the wilderness map needs updating to show the FoG minigame...same thing for the Full World map as it lacks chaos tunnels as well as stealing creation.
  23. Don't you also have to figure in the cost of the burners and the marrentil needed?
  24. Honestly...train agility like crazy. Try getting 99 (seriously). If you KNOW you're not going to stay a member, it's the only way you can keep something. Other than that, you could fletch to maple longbows and keep yourself a stock of 1000 or so (for when you go back) and fletch yourself steel arrows up the wazoo. Fishing...there's plenty of things you can do if you can make it to the fishing guild before you quit members, but other than that, the agility will help recharge the running you'll need in order to do fishing runs at Karamja when you're F2P. Other than that, you probably won't be able to do enough stuff in order to make your life easier. DON'T do Tears of Guthix if you want to stay a pure. It puts experience into your lowest skills. Definitely do the penguin search each week, since that puts points where you WANT them.
  25. Make...you mean smelt? Because if it's making them, then you probably have to collect the iron ore and coal ore, too, which would drastically change the time needed to smelt them. Otherwise, each inventory can hold 9 iron ores and 18 coal OR 14 and 14 if you do the Blast Furnace.
