Woman arrested for killing virtual reality husband
BlueLancer replied to XxTearGodxX's topic in Off-Topic
The most baffling part of the story is that a 30+ year old grown up man would go to the police because his online game character got killed. Hell, I've been mugged /attempted numerous times at night, never reported it because the investigation would just lead to a dead end... Wouldn't call the cops for pretty much any reason except if someone broke into my home, or to call an ambulance to a wounded person/witnessing a murder.. But because your Maplestory account *died*? Way to waste public resources. People who don't even share passwords get 'hacked' all the time (mostly by downloading trojans/keyloggers), and guess what.. They report it to the customer service of the game. -
Do Catholics use medicine? Determining when someone lives or dies is exactly what you do when you take antibiotics/cancer treatments, etc. Actually, catholics say that all life is sacred and that every suffering has a meaning (being a reflection of how Jesus suffered). God gives us life, so we have to do all in our power to keep that gift, even if we suffer; only God has the power to take the gift back. So, inducing death is not allowed, whereas sustaining life would be applauded. Even though I have many doubts regarding this attitude, I suppose we should be thankful of the deep impact of catholic education/research on the development of medicine. It's just the catholic viewpoint though, some christians and jehovah's witnesses even refuse blood transfusion, even if it means the recipient would die in the process, because that would be circumventing 'God's will'. All in all, it's good those dangerous beliefs are in the minority, it'd be pretty sad to lose your relative or friend for absolutely no reason, other than he being told he can't stay alive by "God"'s will.

Gomorra (2008), extremely realistic portrayal of the camorristi mafia in the Naples/Calabria area of southern Italy. Not a flashy hollywood action flick or Scarface though, you should only expect to see brutal reality. It doesn't glorify, it just shows what the people in those areas have to go through every day. Actually, I'd say it's a sort of documentary, it is extremely based on reality, it's not a thriller/action movie. Watch it if interested... It should be on DVD in most countries by now.

That's more or less what TrueCrypt allows you to do. It can install a boot loader that asks you for a password, and, depending on which password you enter, load a different operating system. http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/?s=hidden ... ing-system Yes, but is it 100% proven to be unhackable? if so I may dl tomorrow... Nothing made by humans is unhackable or unbreakable, but TC has pretty good protection for an average user. Nobody has the motivation to hack into your box... TC uses 3-layered, 256 [AES] bit encryption for your files. It's a very strong standard even some government agencies use, not unbreakable but very safe

I introduce you to: Rule #8 Might feel unfair really, if you own both accounts, but you can't do that anymore. Not is it just against the rules, but Jagex has changed the game mechanics to the point where it's not possible to transfer items between two players like before. (The rule is) Sorry bud, but it just can't be done anymore.

Thanks for the interesting booklet Venomai.. Reading it, If you 'have' to, and abstaining from the drug is not an option... Best option would obviously be medical marijuana. Apply for it for back pains or other physical torment, if the doctor sees there's benefit to marijuana use, it can be prescribed in Oregon, Rhode Island and plenty of other states... http://www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/MMP/Pages/default.aspx If that's impossible... Well as you said, you'll have to deal with criminals. I personally never bought drugs, but observed the dealers usually hang at campuses and night clubs, they wont contact you, you'll often have to get their cell number by asking someone else in the place. Were I you though, I wouldn't even touch harder pulverized/injectable drugs just as a precaution. Even the study Venomai posted will show you most people who dropped hard drugs did so because of the damage it did to their social life, driving them to crime to finance the expensive stuff, ruining your existence in general..

Makes sense though, not that a terrorist attack is desirable (it's pretty disgusting), but it would inevitably boost the ratings of the military-minded candidate, so obviously terrorist networks would back John McCain to win the election. They have nothing to gain from Obama, he advocates american withdrawal from Iraq, a peaceful negotiation process instead of military intimidation with middle-eastern countries such as Iran (and palestinian territories)... With no american targets in the middle-east and extremely tightened airport security, they would have a very hard time harming american targets in the future.

You just found out why a lot of people are atheists (not me, but just saying): 1. Logic is how you form an argument 2. If God were to exist, there must be logical proof 3. Since there is no logical reason to believe a God exists, just like there is no logical reason to believe a spaghetti monster or purple rabbit exist, by default, he doesn't Faith is only a 'reason' for people already in the religion. To the people outside, it means nothing. Using pure logic, it's impossible to convert anyone to a religion. It can be only done through appeal to emotion. I don't necessarily discount the possibility of a God existing, but it's impossible to argue 'for' his/her/it's existence, so I understand where the atheists are coming from. Nothing is proven unless you have empirical proof that can be reproduced or examined. You can't prove something that by definition can't be seen, tasted, touched or heard (and the only proof that people have 'heard' such an entity is a single book/compilation of ancient manuscripts written during a time of superstition & religious persecution). [hide=] For a fact or statement to be true, it has to have verifiable sources and empirical proof [/hide]

"No God" adverts to run on bendy buses in London
BlueLancer replied to Dracion1's topic in Off-Topic
Hah, so typically british. Although a donation amount this big would've probably happened in any nordic country too. (for american comparison, that's about $100,000, while the target was just $11k) -
Good programme to delete other programmes?
BlueLancer replied to Jimmyw3000's topic in Tech and Computers
Norton is up there with McAfee in the terms of irritability. Not only is the software extremely heavy and often doesn't pick up newest threats, it's a pain to remove & it conflicts with nearly every firewall on the market (and even some games). http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ CCleaner is good for removing leftover 'pieces' after uninstalling Norton, as mentioned already... That's if after running a removal tool, you still have problems. Even if you don't, it's a very useful tool, you should run it at least every few weeks or so. You wont just clean up your computer, but you'll get possibly hundreds/thousands of MB of hard-drive memory back after it deletes 'crap' from your computer. -
WoW Gamer Has 36 Accounts, Raids by Himself...
BlueLancer replied to Latinoking's topic in Off-Topic
It's his life, his hobby, what makes him have 'no life'? Check his website. He's not exactly a 'fat nerd', just a quite average guy who likely is either rich, or got a big inheritance and wants to spend it on extreme things like this. Plus, how many people can play 30+ accounts in any game at one time, synchronize their movement, etc.? I'd say he's far from dumb. How many people posting on this topic could write 4 essays in school at the same time, or play chess against 8 people while not missing a single move? It might seem a bit.. Sad, at first, sure. But it's never funny enough how people hate persons like Brad, what has he done to offend you? I don't even play MMO's anymore and I found his set-up quite awesome. If he has the money to do this, why not? -
Mainstream is really just the opposite; The lack of a subculture; The dumbing down of everything involved within it (and making it as safe as possible, removing all references to drugs, swear-words or even some political agenda). I wouldn't say people who only listen to mainstream music are 'dumb' though, totally a matter of taste. But more often than not they are young, and have yet to explore all the different kinds of art available in the world, including music. Once you grow older, chances are you'll grow tired of the same old radio-pop, and will venture out to find smaller niches, alternative rock/jazz/metal/grunge, etc., as your taste matures and you actually want music that sounds good, not music that you listen to because "everybody else does".

"No God" adverts to run on bendy buses in London
BlueLancer replied to Dracion1's topic in Off-Topic
My Social Studies teacher is teaching us about Hinduism and Buddhism, and he isn't sued? Because those aren't real gods. Jesus and his father are. More people follow hinduism and buddhism than christianity  [/appeal to popularity] At least where I come from, pastors would help anyone coming to them seeking for it, regardless of their religion, skin color, age, social status... That's one good part of religion, now that I think of it, I can't ever recall meeting discriminating or unfriendly ministers of any faith. The imams I've met as well were extremely tolerant and helpful. -

Becoming the very thing you seemingly hate? Priceless. A pompous student calling an honorary professor of the University of Oxford, member of the royal literary society, author of a science book selling 1.5 million copies translated to over 30 languages an idiot? Priceless. -
That's a new one.. Who goes to "hell" (or gehenna, which is the original biblical hebrew word used for a 'burning pit') then according to christian theology? Not a lot of christians would agree with you that every person, Hitler and 'casual mass-murderer' alike, can just utter a few words of repentance to make up for countless destroyed lives, years of torture... Your pastor is misintepreting his faith if he genuinely believes so & teaches it openly. Christian universalists believe God will save any soul regardless of their actions through faith and repentance, it represents an extremely small portion of the total theological believer base of christianity though.

That was a pretty poor attempt. You have to be bit more critical to get the response you're looking for. The series does appeal to a very small niche of people, doesn't mean it's artistic value is 'bad'. I don't like it much either, but for it's own genre, it's a damn twisted and evil story arch of John Kramer's experiments. The problem is.. Why watch it? You watch comedy to laugh. You watch horror to feel scared. You watch fantasy/adventure for excitement. You watch thrillers for the suspense. Why watch people getting torn out of their limbs in sick psychological 'tests' where often no escape is possible, leaving a very violent and painful death as the only option? I'd say shock value. Or at least for me, I just watched them to see what it's all about. The Saw series is all about shock value, which makes it a cash magnet especially amongst young people. Wont make a bet or anything, but I'd say very few people actually enjoy watching extreme gore and killing of innocent people (I know those people exist, just saying it's a minority)

Looking for someone with two very specific fonts
BlueLancer replied to dsavi's topic in The Art Bazaar
Both of those fonts are registered trademarks of Linotype GmbH Company, costing about 30eur per set. If you're really willing to pay that kind of cash, I can link you a few sites via PM which sell those fonts. r0ckyk34n3 wasn't probably aware, and that's ok, most people aren't when it comes to fonts, it's practically software piracy. Most people do download these fonts for free. -
Heroin and cocaine are not instantly-addicting drugs. DrugScope - Heroin Myths Not sure how objective that source is, I was rather referring to cocaine, from a purely non-biased, medical view http://www.pa2online.org/articles/ article.jsp?article=43&issue=1&volume=2 Also quoting for a fair view's sake: The effects of cocaine on a person's brain and central nerve system can't be even remotely compared to nicotine (but can be likened to amphetamine though), due to the natural reward process it inhibits in the brain. It's very unlikely a recreational cocaine/heroin user can just use the substance occassionally and simply drop the habit at any time.

Statistics disagree, the average polls still give 6-14% lead to Obama, compared to Kerry/Bush having nearly equal 50/50 or Bush with a 1-2% lead in 2004 pre-election polls. Heck, even betting agencies give a 6 odds for McCain to win compared to Obama under 1.20. Unless something absolutely catastrophic happens, Barack Obama is the 44th president.

Heh, quite the opposite.. I love the psychological challenges a good horror film can offer while you're in a dark room/almost empty movie threatre  I did watch all Saw's from 1 to 4.. I wouldn't even call them horror movies. More like, gorefest... There isn't a scary element to any of them really, it's testing your brain's limits; How disgusting mutilation of the body can you watch before you cringe, turn your head away and say 'dammit' before resuming? Not a very impressing series, although it's intriguing how sick & twisted 'games' John Kramer develops for his victims, who he believes are wasting away their lives unless he intervenes and makes them use their 'survival senses'.

Do you know anything about nicotine? It isn't an instantly-addicting chemical, unlike some included in heroin, cocaine, etc... There are millions of people who can likely smoke a cigarette at a party, then drop the habit for another year... Not so easy with brain-altering hard drugs. Not saying marijuana is a hard drug, far from it... Not everyone gets addicted on marijuana either. Just saying nicotine isn't as 'evil' as you think. You wont get instantly addicted to it unless you build a habit and smoke it even when you don't crave it... Then you might get a physical dependency. I've smoked a couple of cigarettes and never got addicted..

Is there a point? Is there a reason to live or die?
BlueLancer replied to No_99_Melee's topic in Off-Topic
A big house, 2.5 kids, puppy named Rusty and a big scrap of metal people so affectionately call a SUV. Not exactly what most of the world is aiming for. Overall, material possessions are probably the least important reason to live for most people (outside USA).
