  1. I don't know why, but everywhere I go, the majority of religious people are actually women. Even where I grew up, about 80-90% of the churchgoers and deeply religious christians were female. I only saw a few random young-middle aged men, and the rest were old men. Not saying women are dumb (far from that), but they certainly have a tendency to embrace religious thought. Maybe it gives them hope or something when they feel helpless. Also in college.. None of my male professors (besides the religion teacher who I believe was an orthodox christian) were religious at all, but they were extremely intelligent. On the other hand, plenty of the female professors were devout worshippers. Maybe it's socially still sort of 'unaccepted' for a woman to go 'against the grain'?
  2. Andrew and Paul Gower list as some of the richest men in all of United Kingdom, if I recall correctly, being worth some $100 million each. So they probably do make absurd amounts of profit from their operations.
  3. Germany won 3-2, but I'm surprised as hell Turkey could pull off even 2 goals in a match like this, with 14 of their main players gone... Just goes to show there's no easy profits in football anymore like in the past years: If you bet low goals for the worse team against the superior, more often than not the opposite happens. Even Estonia could score 2 goals against Brazil these days. Germany is guaranteed a place in the final, now it's down to Russia & Spain to determine who faces the germans in the last battle.
  4. Germany vs Turkey begins today... In 35 mins to be exact 8-) Let's see what happens... I'll be stunned if Turkey can accomplish anything with their broken team, 14 injuries/banned players.. Best case scenario (in terms of an interesting game) would be Germany scoring loads of goals. Will that happen...
  5. Lmao, I swear this is the sweetest show for kids. Any parent can let their kid watch it without worries, it's a carefully animated cartoon that follows the life of a penguin family. I watched this sometimes with my cousins who are way younger, doubt it's known at all to born-Americans though.
  6. It wasn't russian if you want to be factually accurate: Ex. Soviet yes, but Chernobyl is located in Ukraine. Also sort of related: It spawned one of the best horror FPS games: S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadow of Chernobyl, which is set in Ukraine right after a worst-case scenario has happened and Chernobyl completely destroyed everything around it. But it works as a huge deterrent against nuclear power still to this day like mentioned above. It was an old soviet plant with insufficient security, but people are still scared of what happened. Let's just say... If you get seriously exposed to nuclear radiation... Your offspring wont be pretty. You'll be lucky if they're even born alive, or have 3 heads, etc..
  7. Extremely unlikely, Yankees are badly behind, and had some horrible losing streaks this season. They even keep losing to rubbish teams like Cincinnati (no offense Ohio people  ), if you bet money on them, you'll be disappointed like many fans this season. And yeah Schilling might be old (bit over 40), but quite the opposite: He's recovering great from the injury, it's likely he's going to be able to play in a week or two. Minnesota is on a huge winning streak btw, won 6 consecutive games in a row.
  8. Red Sox should have a pretty clear home win today against Diamondbacks, hence the low odds for their victory too.
  9. I quit playing like a year ago after killing a few slimes near the beginner zone & my free trial ran out, decided it's definitely NOT worth paying for. It just seemed too blank of a game... Not sure if I'd compare it to Guildwars, it seemed like an absolute carbon copy of WoW with worse dialogs (written by plain font) and the exact same combat system. Thanks for mentioning it went F2P, might check it out again in spare time later 8-)
  10. Not a bad idea itself, but that thread is 6 months old+ it will likely mess up the poll again.
  11. In pretty much any scenario, no. Even if you have 0.1 black marks, it works greatly against you. They have way too many players to choose from who have a clean record to select anyone with black marks. Sadly, even if you got muted for saying stuff like "selling [item]" and it came out as "sellin* **em" (totally legit sentence), they probably wont check into why you got muted, they're too busy for that... They just see black mark and move on to the next person, unless you made REALLY helpful reports/helped around the forums. At least it was that way while I pmodded, not sure if they changed procedures after I quit RS. Probably not.
  12. During serious pissed-offness/pure hate, cigarettes work wonders. Talking about a matter of seconds/minutes to diminish a murderous rage. Must be some chemical compounds in the cigs.. Hate to advocate them even partially, but that's the way it is. I never smoke otherwise or casually, though.
  13. Won't happen Greece had 25:1 odds by bookies to win the championship even while in quarter-finals in 2006... Ended up as champions. Turkey was losing to Czech republic 2-0 in 65th minute and ended up winning the match 3-2 just a few days ago... Wont say no more, just that everything is possible in sports. I'm not really cheering for Turkey, but saying it's possible they could beat Germany or even be Euro champions.
  14. I wouldn't be skeptical of many things concerning computers anymore... Even 8 years ago in 2000, people were laughing at the idea you could connect to the internet wirelessly at any location with multiple megabit speed, or even do that with a telephone. Where are those people now? The GRID wouldn't just be another internet... It'd enchance data transfer. You wouldn't have "download speeds" since everything in the "grid" would be linked together. Think about moving a file from a folder to another on your computer: The only speed limit is how fast your hard-drive can write data. Now, think the same thing, except you fetch the movie/mp3/other file directly from another user. There is no bandwidth, the computer would have infrared or other censors for recieving data, you could easily transfer a 1GB file within 10-20 seconds.
  15. Probably you meant to say "mg" If you drank 4000ml of taurine in 3 hours... You'd be drinking about 20-50 cans of energy drink cans in that timeframe, I somehow doubt that.
  16. It's ridiculous to think that they'll win over Germany. I did pick them over Croatia, because they've been lucky so far and Croatia just didn't seem like they can finish a game off. But with half their squad and their first choice keeper gone, who the hell thinks they can make it to the finals? Finals will be Spain - Germany. Viva Espana! Rustu Recber is actually much, much better than Volkan as a goalkeeper. But when it comes to players... Yes, about half of Turkey's players are banned from the next game (too many yellow cards), I just can't see how this is going to end up anywhere except Germany's win (or draw in the actual playing time, but Germany winning in Extra time) Edit- Oh well, somehow fubol managed to delete the poll I think.. Trying to re-add it hold on...
  17. They'd never kick Ireland out of EU nor do they have any intention of doing so. They'll just have political setbacks because of this, their influence over decisions in EU will be lower, and obviously they'll be excluded from decision-making that affects all Lisbon treaty countries.
  18. To be correct it was France and Holland who originally rejected the EU constitution.. Now it's no longer called the constitution, it's called the "treaty of Lisbon", it's almost exactly the same except with minor modifications: No new official flag/anthem, meaningless things like that. It's taken long enough to ratify the treaty, every single other government in the EU has ratified/is most likely going to ratify it, but for some reason Ireland decided to hold a public referendum. Needless to say, after pouring hundreds of millions in it, and years worth of time, they're not backing down this time because a country representing 0.8% of the total EU population decided to vote 53-47% in favour of NO against it. Ireland will just be excluded from the treaty.
  19. Sounds like a made-up statistic, especially if you fight with another human being, despite what you tell yourself mentally, unless you're a self-defense expert, you really don't have much of a chance if he's bigger or has a more powerful weapon, your only option is to run. I've been to plenty of self-defense courses, the trainer always says the same thing.. In many real life scenarios you can't win. Forget the movies, that's not reality. If 3 guys with knives try to rob you, you don't have to give your money, you can run like hell, but you CAN'T win the fight. Young kids can buy knives and sharp tools... But they don't necessarily need them. Unless you go fishing and need to gut the fish so they can be cooked, I can't think of many legit uses for a knife at under 15 with the kid being responsible enough to handle it :?
  20. Nope, at least in PhpBB3 that's not possible. But there's the lame option of being able to change your vote :P Which is disabled for this poll... Haha, poor Turkey  Nobody believes in their victory..
  21. It's the same with alcohol and cigarettes, at least here in the US. It's providing a minor with something they are not of age to buy themselves. That's how one can go to jail for that. Well, here in Belgium, there isn't such a law about that. Guess thats another reason to not like the U.S. so much, lack of freedoms for children, kinda makes me think that they aren't intelligent or something. First scar of my life.. At about 6 years old. How'd I get it? With a cheap discount swiss army knife the local shop was selling, I had saved up money and bought it. Still got a wide white scar to this day. Didn't really take many hours until I cut the backside of my thumb to a bloody pulp after trying to carve initials in some wooden box.. Kids can't make the best decisions for themselves. Until you're at least 15-16, there's really no need to have a sharp edged weapon/tool. Kids need rights, but they don't need weapons or dangerous tools unless supervised by an adult.
  22. You're right, and I hope no parent is dumb enough to give dozens of vitamin pills to their kid every day just for the sake of 'eating vitamins' Still, the risk is minimal.. Just like bubble gum says excessive use may have laxative side effects. That will only happen if you eat like 8 packs of bubble gum at once... Few people do that, I'd dare to say. But you can't die by VC overdose (... Or bubblegum)
  23. Please don't quote wikipedia, quote a medical journal or something. Bear in mind this is in the case of Extreme overdose. I'm kind of tired of explaining it, but Wikipedia itself is not the source of information. If you read the post, I said it has some pretty reliable sources, about 100 of them. Here's some http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Pars ... PN/5278189 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17297243 Even extremely high dosages of vitamin C are used as a partial treatment for multiple diseases and have been approved for nearly 2 decades.
  24. Perfectly legit question.. Vitamin C itself is colorless or white, but if digested as a part of normal diet, especially in high concentrations, it's in the yellow form. Lemons, oranges, mandarins, pineapples, all have extremely high concentrations of VC. So it's a common assumption your urine would become yellow because of that. (And it will if you drink them, your kidneys wont take the color away after the excess juice is to leave your body) If you only drank water and vitamin C pills & ate nothing during the day, then it wouldn't be orange.
  25. I'm pretty sure underage citizens can't get revolvers or handguns for hunting use in any country (legally). There is absolutely no way at least in a western society, that the police chief of the person's county, city, etc. would grant a 9mm permit or .45 for *hunting*, to someone under 18 years old. Hunting rifles using winchester/308 cartridges are a different story. He might be able to get a combat knife @ under 18.. But good luck defending yourself with it against a wild boar. I wouldn't count on it.
