uh, different shoe on a different day? or with different clothes. uh, waste of money? Well, I mainly support that argument (that having like 50 pairs is REALLY a waste of money), but if they like collecting shoes as a hobby, there's nothing wrong with it. I'd much rather collect quality jackets for example, and already do have 4 leather ones (3 black 1 cognac), but each to their own. It's not about the item size either.. If you want to find a true 'waste of money' group of people, try those who spend millions of small diamonds and other gems. They might be beautiful, but thinking about how much good that money could do in the world instead of sitting as useless rocks.. Could make some people puke. Compared to that, collecting shoes is really quite harmless  That logic doesn't fully work though.. What about, say, women who are perfume/spice collectors? They will also regularly consume their collection, while also putting it on display and getting personal satisfaction from owning so many different pieces. Still it'd be a legit hobby/collection.

I like meat, nearly love it, and I realize 100% it's a weaker moral standing than being a vegetarian. You're decieving yourself or trying to justify a lie if you think it's morally OK to eat meat. Especially chicken animals get abused to hell with steroids and imprisonment in a small cage with 50 other chickens in it while being in "production" instead of living normally. But I eat it because I'm probably an 'addict'. It's hard for some people to just give up meat. I'll go crazy if I can't get proper, quality meat for 2 weeks, & I'm probably not the only one in the world either. If I was to teach my children how to have a healthy diet, it'd have much more vegetables and salad, fish, less red meat and chicken. They would have an easier time learning it from scratch than someone who's eaten flesh all his life.

my essay: Why being a moderator is no big deal
BlueLancer replied to ixfd64's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I don't think there's a more repugnant feature in some online games (but why not in real life too)... People who are so transparent and obviously planning their every action in the game to get a small silver crown image. They even try to write like customer service robots, and are already PRIOR to being any mod, mentally convinced they're "authorities", and go around RS telling people "Please do not say that, you are breaking rule 7 section two", "You must interrupt this activity or I will be forced to report your behaviour". No offense... But I find that kind of people disgusting and quite frankly, are the architype of people who should not be made p-mods in the game. They'll eventually start muting people and using their status to belittle others... If they see someone's sentence has 4 stars blocked out (****), instant mute... -.- -
Oil companies can't fend off these projects for a long time either, do the math... Who is more powerful, oil companies, or all the other businesses of the world combined together? All businesses (bar Oil, obviously) wish for cheaper oil prices, which will reduce their operating costs and increase their profits. Think industrial business, transport, factories... There are many more businesses and politicians benefiting from cheap oil than from expensive one, plus the politicians gain extra public support by managing to cut down gas prices. The sad thing is... USA is an exception, a lot of politicians are involved in oil business, so while Japan/China/Europe advance towards unlimited solar energy, Washington crooks will try to make excuses about why the american public "needs" oil to run the economy. Nice marketing pitch.

my essay: Why being a moderator is no big deal

Very well written essay. I also lost my player-mod status due to obvious inactivity since quitting the game years ago... And it wasn't really "cool" or "awesome" like some people think. You get pestered and asked questions everywhere you go, clueless people whine to you about Jagex's gameplay flaws, etc.. The worst thing is.. People no longer treat you as a person. They just see that little silver crown and think you're "one of them" they can benefit from, and they percieve you as having some sort of obligation to answer their question. -
Every process that happens has a logical reason, because the only thing that ultimately affects your life, is other human beings who have independent thought processes. The only other thing directly affecting your life events is nature, weather and possible disasters arising from them (which have a clear explanation as well). Maybe it's a difference in world views then.. But I see nothing miraculous in those things. Pizza is dough that has vegetables and meats slapped on it, then shoved in an oven & taken out for eating. Music that you listen on your MP3 players has failed hundreds of times, voice-perfected, mixed, pitched, smoothed digitally in the studio before it became the final product you enjoy. The artists possibly got depressed, started taking drugs, etc... Because of the stress that went into all the albums they've finished and the producer was never satisfied enough. Comedy is understanding the world and making intelligent puns on things that exist in it. Sure, dumb people can make jokes too, but they're usually not amusing to most people. But I don't see how it's a miracle either... When enough people realize the world isn't as serious as it's set out to be, humor is prone to appear. It happened already in Rome and will happen long after we die.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailer!! .:UPDATE!:.
BlueLancer replied to AniseCookies's topic in Off-Topic
Warner Bros keeps changing the directors too damn much. Some of them have an artistic style that should have nothing to do with Harry Potter, and they ruin it. I don't know why some of the directors were hired, WB must have horrible taste sometimes... Not a hardcore Harry Potter/fantasy fan  But since I got the books as presents over years from younger cousins.. I read them for fun. It's not childish at all, it's a very sophisticated fantasy series. -
That's already hard as it is, I looked into some RWT'ers, and they use a proxy in the client's local country while leveling up (which also causes them lag/other problems+ it's very hard to find good low-latency proxies in countries like South Korea, Brazil, etc.) to avoid suspicion. Jagex has pretty much gotten rid of venues for real-world trading in large scale... But like the item lending scenario shows, it will probably always be there on an individual level. What's stopping a guy from paying $10 to "lend" a Godsword? Not much really. Jagex has no way of knowing if it's a "genuine" loan. But the 1-loan-only defeats the purpose of making a business out of item lending.

I need help getting the Sony Vegas pro 8.0 trial

Good thing you found an answer. Next time, post on here to get more advice: viewforum.php?f=45 P.S: Try cleaning the forementioned c:/tmp folder if using Windows. -
Read this article: http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/conten ... ct/88/1/26 If you belong in the 'long sleepers' biological group, it's *physically* not possible for you to cut down on amount of sleep without physical consequences or tiredness due to a different, deeper sleep process. Some people can get by on 4-7 hours of sleep easy, all their adulthood. To other people that's mental abuse and torture they couldn't endure for many weeks. You can set up an alarm clock, but you really can't fight your biology

Nobody really mentioned this... Running out of resources  It's not as if the world has an endless supply of fresh water.. That's just the tip of the iceberg. There are already hundreds of millions of people living on a buck per day without a house to live in with their family, outside of elite politicians and well connected big businesses, money IS scarce. There isn't any extra to pass around, those people will likely live all their life on a street or in a shackle. It's just going to get worse as more & more people are born... If I lived in a 3rd world country right now, I wouldn't want to have a kid. Why bring him/her into the hell of starvation, abuse, poverty?

If someone just says 'lock my topic because ppl r disagreeing wit me' it's not really a good enough reason -.- Lateralus is right on that, it's not really "their" thread if all they did was open a discussion. (But if it goes way off topic and talk about global warming turns into 4chan and Star Trek cameos, it's reasonable to just close it if that author wishes so)

I actually know plenty of christians that don't eat pork at all, conservative as they may be, it doesn't seem like that rare of a phenomenon. Not all christians have a slice of bacon & eggs at breakfast while sipping coffee and reading New York Times. But the point stands, average christians don't usually adhere to anything in the Old Testament or even belittle it, so why pick pieces of it that suit their targets of hatred such as gays?

Well in 'theory' yes.. But let's just say, some of the tip.it staff back then were a bit nazi'sh, a lot of good posters were lost just because some admins were having real life problems and transformed it into grumpiness and anger on a forum. They've mostly been long since replaced though. Everything does look better in retrospect  Just like when you're in school.. Most kids just wish it was over, the airconditioning is horrible, back hurts from sitting, you want to go back to sleep, tired of listening to blabbering about square roots and tangents... But years later you wish you could experience it again. If you actually went back in time, I doubt many would do it.

About 1/5th of Dimmu songs actually have great metal melodies, but yeah... Lame overall impression. Does mainstream media really regard classic rock as 'heavy metal' these days? Is anything with more than a folk guitar "heavy"? :|

Heh, you're not the only one. I almost feel like it's some sort of curse, had it since I was like 13... Despite double and triple-checking.. Always forgetting an important item when leaving the house, only realizing it 20 mins later. Forgot my keys multiple times too even though I was sure I forgot nothing.. At least I got an opportunity to train breaking into my house.. (Not wanting to freeze to death on a winter night is a pretty good motivation for doing everything in your power to open the lock)

No offense to you since you already said you don't do that kind of stuff... But people like that ruin fair-use of good things like unlimited refill. It should be used as long as you're thirsty, not so you can steal free soda by filling up empty bottles you brought. The system is designed so it's more convenient for the customer. If there's a queue, a thirsty customer doesn't have to wait 5 mins just to refill soda/water, instead, they can go refill it at any time they wish themselves at no extra charge. The company obviously takes losses from this. Everyone else suffers when a few idiots start abusing the system and start arguing with the staff "It says unlimited, so why can't I fill these 30 bottles of coke? I'll sue you!"

Only because humans are animals like any other... What historical advantage would a person had if he didn't have a drive to stay alive? It's pure instict, not a higher purpose. Try poking an ant around.. Even if it's smaller than the size of your fingernail, it will try to run away to live another day. It doesn't have brains, but because it's a living organism like you, it wants by definition to stay alive. (Humans are the only species that actively commit suicide though)

I got plenty of $1000's and I'll tell you they wont take you far... Think.. Just the cost of living for a year, even if you live on rent, is at least $10K +. With millions of dollars? I always thought of the idea that since it's such a huge capital.. You could just put it in a bank with 4.5% annual interest, and live off some of it+re-deposit the rest to cover inflation. Basically free income, but who really wants to sit around all day doing nothing and playing video games :? It sounds like a dream to a teen maybe... But when you're older.. Maybe you'll want to do something that has a meaning in the world. That's why rich people don't just sit around in their mansions all day.. A lot of them start doing volunteer work for free, start foundations for poor people etc.. Because they want meaningful things to do in their life, having money just sitting there waiting to be spent is barely 'meaningful'.

Lmao, that's actually very true. They don't even know the story behind the phrase, yet use it as if they know an 'inside joke'. I'd imagine these to be typical 12-14 year olds new to the internet. Could be anyone, though. Airheads come in all sizes and ages.. The obvious tick-off factor is obviously lag. It can be so horrible in certain games it'll make you want to just quit playing it for that sole reason. (Hint: WarRock and it's trashy peer-to-peer connection system which just doesn't work most of the time -.- Try enjoying a CQC shooter where a guy you just killed... Kills you 10 seconds after he's dead)

I'd rather be disappointed with Obama than a guarenteed 4 more years of the same [cabbage] as Bush. Just to let you in on a little secret here: Being in the same party doesn't mean you think the same way or have the same ideas, or talk the same way. McCain's voting history in the senate says otherwise. You're practically voting for Bush if you vote for a guy who has supported 95% of Bush's initiatives.

Most people aren't horny mindless animals, reproduction isn't the sole purpose of life to everyone (especially in a world where overpopulation is a serious issue). There's damn much more criterias for selecting a woman to be your partner other than just being 'pretty' and reproducing with her. Some people disagree, and their kids pay for the consequences, not the parents. Some people's personalities just don't mix together, and it creates a lot of domestic violence, abuse, yelling, hidden uncovering of mental issues... A stable family for a kid is the most important thing. And obviously in the US, people are selecting the wrong people to mix with since over 50% of marriages end in a divorce. A long term relationship has little to do with the physical side and more with the spiritual 'connection'. If a kid had 2 mothers or 2 fathers, I don't see what's objectionable about that either, as long as they can provide the child with a safe and stable life.

global warming what we can do/fact or fiction
BlueLancer replied to INFINTEBAJAN2's topic in Off-Topic
The point stands.. Something doesn't just stop existing because it's inconvenient or causes problems. Especially people with big SUV's driving alone to work can be somehow 'offended' by rising gas prices and people telling them they're just contributing to both problems: They consume expensive gas and thus create even more demand, plus they pollute about 6x more than someone driving a 'normal' car. For example I like browsing message boards sometimes in my spare time. If my local town council said that unnecessary browsing after 6.00PM in excess of 2+ hours will cause significant electricity shortages in remote areas of the town, would I still continue browsing, protesting I have the "freedom" to do so? If it benefits EVERYONE, then sometimes you just have to give up comforts that are unnecessary. It's more important for a family with kids to be able to cook food, than it is for me to read stuff on a forum. -
I wouldn't care what I'm being labeled as if you could earn $250,000 a year doing it. A lot of people in poorer countries would kill for that money without a second thought instead of earning $200 a month for the rest of their lives and living trashy lives in a suburb ridden with crime and poverty. I've gamed plenty during my life, though pretty much quit active-gaming some 5 years ago.. I'd hate gaming to be classified as 'sports' or 'athletic'. It's far from it, it may take skill, but unlike online-poker or chess, it doesn't even have a counterpart (like real live poker). Gaming is by definition purely virtual and only takes slight finger movements and reflex. I played soccer a LOT through my childhood ever since from age 7 to about 15, I'd feel it's an insult to real athletes to call gamers 'sportsmen'. That being said, I've come to contact with high-skilled gamers and even some pros, I have nothing agaisnt them. But it's not correct to call them 'athletes'.
