Nothing, and both terms apply to men & women alike. Especially americans are surprised by some women expressing themselves as 'gay' which is the correct usage

Why not just make change the name of coins to gold pieces?
BlueLancer replied to sohkmj1's topic in General Discussion
It's not, but I can recall ever since 2001 in RSC, people were always calling coins 'gold pieces', "gp". Nobody said "selling mith ores for 400 coins each, it was always gp. Even back in 1998 on Diablo 1 multiplayer when rare items weren't abudant, people were trading items -> *gold* in "gp" which I found a bit ironic  Nah, even in RSC it was still called "coins" in your inventory. But 'gold pieces' is an old remnant used ever since online games have first existed decades ago, so it's stuck even to this day as the habit moved from old players to new, and the cycle continues.. -
global warming what we can do/fact or fiction
BlueLancer replied to INFINTEBAJAN2's topic in Off-Topic
I can't really feel sorry for these people who get fired from organizations for disagreeing with it.. Because as said above, it ridicules everyone associated with your name. The climate change models that show man-made carbon emissions are causing more and more increase in average temperature is proven beyond any doubt. What hidden agenda do the biggest organizations, such as national governments, have to support it? Business is already limited in many aspects in the EU for example, and companies are only allowed to produce a certain amount of Co2, which limits the flow of money. Nobody benefits financially by supporting the fact that global warming is a real threat to the stability of every region of the world. -

Maybe you didn't read the fine print of the article.. You might want to check it again: http://www.aps.org/units/fps/newsletter ... nckton.cfm If you wanted credibility for that article, it just flew out of the window at 200mp/h. An organization as old as APS will never allow itself to be publicly ridiculed by supporting ridiculous claims like "man-made carbon emissions don't count towards global warming" -
I always tolerated people of all religions and even studied nearly all of them in-depth, but I wouldn't want to teach the latter philosophy you mentioned to my child. It's not realistic to think anything in life is possible just because "you" believe it to be so. There are already millions of gullible people in the world that fall prey to simplistic nigerian scam-emails promising 3 million dollars after a "fee" of 2,000 bucks... Because they have too much faith in something that has no proof of existence, and they get screwed. The above is just an example, a huge abudance of faith doesn't serve any purpose in the real world, in the worst cases like those scams, it completely makes people forget about cold rational thinking and reasoning, and they start believing they're "blessed by God" to recieve millions of dollars. Reality will strike those people hard. There's nothing wrong with being spiritual. Both my parents were too. But if you let it affect your way of thinking and dealing with life too much, your functioning as a human in a sadly vicious world could, or will, become incapacitated.

Don't take satires so seriously.. Obama has huge support in states like Oregon (over 50% of voters) which are predominantly white..

Blizzrds WWI announcment, what is it? DIABLO 3 ANNOUNCED!
BlueLancer replied to Nadril's topic in Off-Topic
Yes it does. I don't know about you guys, but it seems some of the D3 developers/promotors really shouldn't be there, unlike D1/D2 teams who pretty much produced perfect games. The woman is fighting demons and possibly Satan himself. Why the heck would she want to be 'safe'? Horrible attempt at trying to make her the archetypical 'weak, vulnerable female' in need of protection. I just hope this doesn't carry on to the final product, that's not the spirit of the game. You had decapitated people and child sacrifices in D1, traumatized mentally scarred drunks in the town, dark dungeons with dirt, rust, shadows everywhere... In closing.. Diablo isn't Warcraft. I hope they don't go for pure commercial appeal or it'll ruin the game. -
10 year old wife gets divorced after being raped and beaten
BlueLancer replied to Happysniff's topic in Off-Topic
How did the black person feel? How can a culture justify that skin color automatically makes you a criminal even if you did nothing? Racism doesn't work, it will ultimately be defeated. Even apartheid was broken in Africa after people saw what a shameful failure it is. When people realize in those cultures the same thing, except with women (that they're not possessions of their family and have free wills), they will be just as ashamed of their current culture as we are of slavery that some members of our society used to practice. -
Holy crap. I love games that can't be beaten by 99% of the population, but this is going to be a REAL challenge. I'll try it definitely. An average western person will hate this game because they're used to wuss-games with checkpoints every 10 seconds and clicking 1 button to complete 20% of an area while lazily reading an online forum. Really, this game is an ultimate brain and reflex test. You can't beat this game without being insanely skilled or talented/powerful brains that can process dozens of events per millisecond. I'm also amazed how ZUN has created everything in this game single-handedly.. Animations, coding, bullet patterns, real music, characters...

Hi, Like skatedog said, there's already an open topic for this. You're welcome to post there: viewtopic.php?f=151&t=750173

Go to a well-lit place, preferably outside if the sun is shining. I did that sometimes when I was nervous (not scared, but at huge financial risk for example) to the point of nearly vomiting, it worked wonders. It's hard to feel threatened in bright environments.

Kind of hard to judge a game by a few screens and a 20 min gameplay video of a pre-alpha build.. But I hope Diablo 3 isn't going further in the direction of "WoW" or the Warcraft series in general. The menu texts and some graphics look pretty childish, not something you'd expect from a gritty game like Diablo. I found this image, ok maybe the bottom one's text is a bit dramatic but it has a good point, compare these two: [hide=] [/hide] The below one is maybe "slightly" too dark, but it looks much more like an updated Diablo. The above (an actual D3 pre-alpha screen) looks exactly like the Warcraft games I've played. -.- Too much of that bright-neon green and cyan blue lighting for such a dark game.. Gameplay itself seems great and they added new classes+spell effects. Plus the music of various cities which you can preview on Diablo3.com fits the atmosphere perfectly. But I'd be lying if I said the graphics are perfect for this kind of dark fantasy/gothic game.. Anyone remember Diablo 1? It was literally sick, but it also improved the games' overall feeling. Like the room of Butcher that was full of the slain townfolk's blood, limbs and bodies. Or Lazarus performing some ritual for Diablo in his lair by running blood from an infant and killing it. That kind of stuff gave you motivation to think "what a sick guy" and kill him, at current, I can't see this kind of stuff entering D3. Would hate to see it turn into just another hack'n'slash game with the name D3 attached to it, because frankly D1 and D2 had much more than that. So far Diablo is a very unique game series with a genuinely dark atmosphere.

I have a really, really old client from 2001 on an USB stick but it gets stuck on the splash page. It's not possible to play through it. Back when there was 1 to 5 servers, using the executable client was a popular way of playing RuneScape, instead of going on the site, you'd just fire that up and play.

I remember seeing those 2 pics before the rollback, maybe you posted them on another thread... Seems like an ideal place to live in. If I had kids, that's where I'd raise them. Winter scenery is also breathtaking 8-)

Last part is absolutely true.. Some ignorant people just think of the "internet", and think junk, adult content, scammers, pirates, etc... But that's just the trash of the "web" (which does have some gems too). The internet connects PC's, libraries, company infrastructure... Modern western countries can't survive without internet connections anymore. Banking, businesses, EVERYTHING relies on fast internet connection availability. It's not optional, it's here to stay.

As a joke it's sort of funny, but anyone with half a brain could figure out the buttered side of a toast only falls on the butter side more often to the slight extra weight (like a rigged coin flip that has 20% more weight on the tails, and so will be a more common result than heads). It doesn't have any rule or law attached to it. Cats on the other hand, have an instict/reaction that makes them fall on their feet even if dropping from a significant height.

Weirdest Prank someone has ever done to you
BlueLancer replied to Princess Viola's topic in Off-Topic
Heh, speaking of Rick Rolls.. Not really a prank.. But hearing it on my friend's car stereo while driving, it was pretty funny. Apparently the DJ (sounded like in his 30's too) had no idea what people percieved Rick Astley as, he announced it in a totally normal voice. Rick-rolled a few hundred thousand listeners right there.. My friend had no idea why I was laughing either. Guess it's not that known to people that only rarely spend time online. And it's not really that hilarious, but still quite special to find out it's on normal 80's/ 90's playlists too  -
I can't really think up of many things that could require more empathy than allowing a baby to be fed in peace when it's hungry... Which is more important, the nutrition of a human being which can't feed itself, or the personal disgust of an immature grown-up who thinks it's unnatural to feed the baby?

He's already proven beyond doubt he's committed to a crimeless life and is already achieving top educational marks after paying his debts to society in the form of community service... What logical reason is there to deny him further education? If anything, being rejected from education drives people to crime. If you keep getting told "you have a criminal record so you can't study here", how are you going to earn a decent living if you're an average person? (Not talking about business of any sorts, just trying to find a job)

I see it more and more as a purely american (as in USA) phenomenon out of all western countries. It has poisoned society down to the bone and sex has become some kind of twisted or 'dirty' thing (even though breastfeeding has NOTHING to do with sex) Go to France for example. I can't say I've lived there, but having spent multiple month at my cousin's in Strasbourg, you can see women in parks, buses, restaurants, etc... Breastfeeding a child. It's natural just as it would be feeding him/her from a bottle. It's not a dirty or bad thing. Not even conservative catholic European countries like Spain/Italy hold it in bad regard, if anything, it's even more natural there than in France/other european countries, everyone does it in public. What might be the real issue is the school of thought that "everyone should mind their own business", down to a cancerous degree in american society, which makes it a taboo or unacceptable to breastfeed in public (I still don't understand what kind of person would be offended by it or even give a second thought even in a restaurant, but each to their own). God forbid some moron thinks feeding a child is "offending public nudity" and sues the mother in a court of law... Anything's possible these days though, wouldn't be surprised.

It seems some people want to make a public spectacle while 'punching the bully back', to gain some sort of recognition, which goes beyond the purpose of just wanting to be left alone. That kind of reputation seeking wont improve your standings unless the bully has seriously picked on you for years and the witnesses agree with beating him up (if he has beaten up multiple weaker students for example) Also, encouraging violence in some situations seems like a social taboo. But when a bully gets physical, there's no other way out of it unless he gets caught and is transfered to another school :( Heard & seen too many sad cases where kids who snitched out got into even deeper trouble

Sounds like a load of bull frankly, would be nice to have a link... Because Hezbollah beat Israel's army in the 2006 war over northern Lebanon using Iranian-made anti-air missiles, rockets, mortars, etc... IDF is funded largely by US foreign donations up to $3B per year, it was considered a proxy war with Iran involved.. Despite IDF mobilizing over 30,000 soldiers against Hezbollah's 1,000 active fighters, they couldn't beat them, and repeatedly got their assault helicopters shot down (in that case killing a LOT of IDF) Iran has nothing to do with Iraq. Comparing their military capability is like comparing the economies of North and South Korea. Iran has a very motivated and modern military with proper equipment, unlike Saddam's underpaid, splintered-in-3-factions low moral conscripts who couldn't put up a fight and deserted quickly. Read up on Iran's suicide squad program: http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340 ... 56,00.html Brainwashed for sure, but I don't know many countries capable of pulling that off and actually getting hundreds of volunteers. Americans, europeans, etc.. enlist for active duty, these people sign a form which guarantees the end of their life should a war commence upon their country..

Only someone who's naive or never personally got bullied would say "ignoring" is a viable solution. If you ever experienced bullying you'd see how incredibly dumb it is to snitch & tell the teacher/principal as well. These pieces of advice are usually given by teachers who don't have any kind of experience about bullying/being bullied or have lived in some sort of candy-cotton world during their own education. (I know it's standard for teachers to encourage 'snitching', but it has never-ending social consequences for the kid, and will label you as untrustworthy/get the kid beaten up even worse) Ignoring works only with a certain physical stature. Sad but true.. Look at how many people who get bullied are short kids. I doubt many of the over 6'1 ones get bullied a lot even if they're the new kid. Someone mentioned this: Ok, might be a bit hard in some schools, but it helps to find someone who will keep your back. I protected younger kids from being bullied only because I hate injustice, not to gain glory/reputation/other things mentioned here. Fighting back isn't about building permanent reputation. It's so you get left alone and can live & study normally. And when you fight back, you do risk losing, but at least you wont be called a coward and there's a much higher chance the bully will stop bullying you

Article I found about Oil Prices and the future.
BlueLancer replied to RSBDavid's topic in Off-Topic
I'd be willing to bet money that's not the answer for cars.. What about cities with the most cars like Beijing or Mumbai which are covered in thick smog almost 24/7 every day of the year with no sunlight? And it's not like the sun shines every day in western countries either.. Oil is now past $140 per barrel and gas is already $10-12 a gallon in most European countries. It's not scary, you'd adjust to it, americans just aren't used to the idea of paying more for gas. You'd just spend less money on something else, if Europeans manage live comfortably & have 3x more expensive gas... Why wouldn't americans? -
Couldn't have put it better... A 'country' only exists in name, in reality, it's just an area that consists of an amount of people. It's a settlement with borders that have been agreed to exist by other settlements. Few things today are worth going to war for. I'd definitely done it in WW2 when nations like Russia/Germany were bullying others and invading smaller countries just because they could, even at huge losses. In 2008... No, it's all about money and personal interests now, not land acquisition or freedom of a society. Admittedly, I worked for UN peacekeeping in 1999-2000, but that doesn't really count as a war. I'd *never* fight in an offensive war, a defensive one maybe.. These days, an agressor has nothing to gain except hatred and despise of the entire world. People already see how pointless war is. USA is a prime example, it certainly hasn't become a safer nation by attacking Iraq. Now americans get kidnapped in tourist resorts, blown up in hotels, etc..
