Yeah, the study was actually carried out by some professors at CB university. 8-) This is such an old article though, I can't find the sources.

Reminds me.. My parents love Cirque du Soleil for some reason and even bought DVD's... But I'd dub it "du freak" as well. I don't understand what's so interesting about the bizarre music and circus acting... It's so weird it makes me laugh if I concentrate and try to watch it.

Exactly my gift motto. I value my friends and family a lot, so why not spend even a couple of hundred bucks on a gift they'll recieve only once a year? It doesn't have to be a 100-carat diamond necklace or a sports car, you can still spend a moderate amount of money and appear to truly care about the person (which you hopefully do). Understandably that might be a huge problem for younger people, seeing as they probably can't just spend hundreds/thousands of dollars for their friend/family's gifts without using all their savings. But really, go for quality... I have experience and know when people talk behind your back... Just don't buy a typical bar of chocolate or a $4.95 sale perfume. Sure, you'll be giving something, but it leaves the impression you really didn't care/give much thought to that person and what he/she likes. Oh, and if you are a parent/grandparent/cousin/aunt/uncle: Don't buy socks as a present! Seriously. I know what I'm talking about. Unless you deliberately want to appear as annoying...

Actually its been proven that the cows we grow to eat produce so much methane gas (Cow farts) that its bad for the environment. Yeah, I'm a meat eater but I knew that fact a long time ago. Heck, when I was in biology classes 10 years ago, one of the first things about environment harming gases we learned of, was methane. Cows and other domestic animals produce masses of methane, significant enough to even challenge traffic's CO2 emissions. -
The ending pretty much summed up the world; If you try to help people out of good will just because you want to help, the world will not appreciate you... It has too many wicked people. Heck, I'm not religious.. And I really don't believe in supernaturality.. But look at what happened to Jesus. He wasn't exactly a "bad" guy, devoting his entire life to helping the sick and the poor. The Romans couldn't just understand the concept of altruist helping/ accept he was doing it for the people, not for himself, so they accused him of trying to gain personal power, blasphemy, usurping, etc... And they spat on him, flogged him, humiliated, mutilated and ultimately crucified him with common criminals. Sure the kid's case in this movie was a bit different, but he died trying to help someone else who was weak and innocent. Yeah, the world can really be a .... place, even if you try to change it for the better, people are skeptical and will eventually end up killing or conspiring against you for some god-forsaken reason. Heh, maybe we are all delusional.. I look at the world around me and think: Maybe we are already in 'hell'.

Only got 26 on both. I thought it'd be a piece of cake to score full on this test if you were actually paying attention, maybe I was wrong..

It might be funny to an extent (and believe me, I'm not the biggest fan of stupidity.. Maddox is one of my favourite sites and he's the epitome of dumb-slayery)... But he's right, if it were your father who died in any possible way [wouldn't really matter now that he's dead], you probably wouldn't find it so funny. But yeah, you can get a casual laugh out of it I figure. It is a pretty weird way of dying. -.- I'm not one to judge you over the internet, but when you are old enough to have experienced the deaths of several people very close to you, such as your parents/grandparents/cousins/friends, you'll find it a bit less funny.

Sorry darkmage, but discrediting China due to a "lack of culture" also discredits anything else you have to say about the chinese... While my ancestors were savage barbarians in Europe knowing 10 local words related to killing an animal and skinning it, the Chinese were writing books, creating military doctrines and government structures, machinery, metalcasting, poetry, seafare, exploring, alphabets, trading routes, palaces, music... Saying China has no cultural history is like saying Greece never existed. It's so grossly inaccurate. I can only find an explanation based on your possible irrational racism/xenophobism towards the chinese. :? This is exactly why I tried so hard to de-program all the superstition and illogical hate towards other nationalities/people taught to me by my father/grandparents while I was younger... I realized they are based on absolutely nothing factual. -
I agree with the multiple reports this post generated on 1 detail: No comment on the discussion, but please stop arguing whether this is "fake" or not. The girl is 100% dead and the story is real. If you don't want to believe 30 different reliable sources, that's up to you.

I don't exactly see how it's "surprising" that the top rated video games are from Nintendo. Sony makes crappy franchise and license game sequels, but also the occassional good, inspiring game (like Final Fantasy). Microsoft makes the occassional worthwhile game like Halo or Assassin's Creed, but mostly plays their cards on good graphics and lame gameplay. I have a 360, but I also have access to my friend's Wii. If I just want to have fun, I'd play a random FPS game for an hour or two. If I want to play a game when I have nothing to do on a rainy day and get into a storyline/good gameplay as if it were a good movie or book, I'll play games made by Nintendo. Since Sega, there haven't even been any serious contesters to Nintendo for making the best game's (gameplay wise, not graphcis). They never concentrated on extra junk like CD players, MP3 etc. The first FFantasy games were made for Nintendo systems though, so that's not an exclusive either...

Whould you give up your right to vote for an Ipod?

That's not really true. USA is about the only western country that does not offer free healthcare to it's citizens. In some 3rd world countries, only about 1% of the population can even dream of affording to see a real qualified doctor. And if I understood correct, you mean "palestinians". Actually, the USA gives them tens of millions of dollars in aid money every year. They just recently freezed it because the palestinians voted Hamas in power (which is considered a "terrorist organisation" even though they fund schools, hospitals, etc.. Just because they are also very capable of fighting Israel and are highly trained). I really hope you didn't mean palestinians caused 9/11, all the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia (against which the USA hasn't retaliated in any way due to political and [oil]economical reasons) -

USA is the only western country still using the death penalty, they have prison camps for POW's with documented cases of torture and murder, they bully other countries through foreign policy and people still accept them as a superpower. Please, 'human rights'... Russia has ridiculously sub-par living conditions for the majority of people, conscripts die in compulsory military service due to harshess of drillers, prison conditions are that of savages, they threaten other nations constantly through foreign policy.. And they are considered as a superpower (at least during the Cold War, and regaining their status) China doesn't need people migrating in it's country. Why would it need westerners who demand a salary 5x that of a chinese person who will work harder with a smaller salary? People migrate in a country if they think they can take advantage of it's resources and tap into them. The international community is ruled by those who are able, not those who have a perfect track record of human records, neutral/friendly foreign policy and diplomacy, and democracy. Otherwise Switzerland, Sweden and Finland would be making all the important calls in politics. And with the chinese military being at over 700,000,000 troops (more than 2x the entire population of USA, and women also serve in China), I don't exactly see them as a "weak" nation compared to USA which has about 1 million active troops all over the world. Not just that, but since about 70% of americans are overweight, during wartime, mobilizing a lot of the manpower available for military service would require recruiting troops who are physically unfit for active duty. "Nukes"? If you want to conquer a country, you don't exactly try to make it inhabitable... Plus China has plenty of nuclear weapons as well. -
In Detroit you can find similar used cars, though they always run perfectly and have tires (but massive mileage), for about $100-$500. It's amazing how cheap people will sell stuff just because it's "used". I've seen jaw-dropping cadillacs go for $250 just because it had 112k miles on it and the steering wheel needed improvement (partially chipped/cracked). Cars that run fine and are Cadillac, should never cost less than $2k IMO.. But hey, I wont complain. That Firebird looks really.. Bad though. If you pay 50 bucks for it, re-sell the parts/engine. You'd need to spend a lot of money just to make it look decent & able to drive with.

The title is quite misleading. It makes the situation sound like an episode of 'The Simpsons'... Fortunately, I doubt any society has gone that far to the dogs (actually 'booing' at someone for dying in a queue... "Boo, shame on you! Now we have to stand here with a corpse next to us!")

Yeah, this is quite sad to admit but when I was addicted to this game about 4-5 years ago, I had some stupid dreams like walking in the dwarven mines and picking up unreleased items like adamantite square shields, etc... And actually logged in after I woke up to see if was real  Back then, though, games that were fully MMORPG (and not just online-playable RPG's like Diablo which could be only played by about 8 people at the same time) were brand new, tons of people got hooked on them, including me...

OH TEH NOES! [My Lit Teacher is a PETA Activist >_>]
BlueLancer replied to Errdoth's topic in Off-Topic
I wasn't even defending PETA, because frankly I hate the attitudes of the members in it that make publicity stunts and ruin people's clothing to prove a point, and how they feel superior to anyone who even dares think about meat. But calling them terrorists for something which has practically no meaning? ... Reminds me of a documentary, Israeli defence force soldiers were arresting palestinians accused of "terrorism", while all they did was pay like $100 a month for the Hamas group (which is in power at least in Gaza now) to protect their home. Is that grounds to call those ordinary people 'terrorists' too and kill them? -
Sorry, but Jagex's current stance on selling items/accounts for real money is clear. It's prohibited by their rules, and you can get banned if you get caught. Tip.it does not condone rulebreaking either. Jagex has hinted for the possibility for 'cash items', maybe they will in the future allow account sales as well, but as it is now, it's a bannable offense.

OH TEH NOES! [My Lit Teacher is a PETA Activist >_>]
BlueLancer replied to Errdoth's topic in Off-Topic
Well.. I read the article, and this is what I read about the PETA: If a few disgruntled members of the organisation do extremist stuff without even any kind of approval from other members, they are acting on their own. I disagree with PETA on nearly every issue. But irrationally marking them as terrorists is propaganda agaisnt them. The only "link" to illegal activity I saw was a $1.5k donation to "ELF" (which apparently blows up facilities where animals are tested or tortured with medical drugs, but does not cause human casualties). Barely even worth mentioning, heck, the US government gave over $2 billion in money and weapons to the Taleban in the 1980's to fight russians in Afghanistan, and even they struggled with financial problems. Now USA calls them terrorists (even though they still have weapons and missiles funded by US taxpayers) $1.5k is less than the price of a proper laptop.. You can hardly make a single working explosive with that which would blow up an entire facility. -

That's quite sensationalist. I'm not a PETA fan, being a steak lover, but you make it sound as if they give $5,000 and a bomb belt to a man who will blow himself up in a train... I don't feel particularly "terrorized" by PETA, what they're doing is crimes against mink farmers, etc... By releasing the animals, or throwing ink on people's furs etc. -
PLEASE help me find 'Hold On' by Todd Haemmerle!
BlueLancer replied to JordanGM's topic in Off-Topic
Got no work or anything right now, so I searched quite a while to find this for you.. Wow, tough one. :? I have pretty good sources and contacts to uploaders on MP3's through newsgroups and private IRC channels... Pretty much to any MP3 available. This must be a very independent artist or an unknown one. I was able to get only 3 downloads to songs by that artist, none of them being the song "hold on". So I did an old fashioned google search, this is the only way you could listen to this song: http://www.pandora.com/stations/1789917 ... 787cc8f624 It's only open for US listeners though, but it has the song you mentioned in rotation. -
Yeah, now that I think of it, it's not even funny. No matter how dumb someone is, nobody wants to die (especially in such an embarrassing fashion) intentionally. [if they are not suicidal] There's more to the story than meets the eye. He couldn't had suffocated or dehydrated there in a matter of minutes (or even hours). A metal shard could've hit his throat or something.

They gave their lives fighting a bloody war for independence and liberty and the right to vote for their own representatives, so that their great-great-grandchildren could trade their democratic rights for an electronic gadget manufactured in Taiwan which plays music. -

:-s Just face the truth. China is taking over the world. Yeah, and that's not even a tongue-in-cheek joke anymore. In a few decades the chinese have already surpassed the US militarily and economically... And in about 30 years, they'll have reduced the poverty in the countryside so much there will be 1 billion+ chinese living on better average standards than a westerner. I'm actually trying to learn chinese because of the future benefits (as well as japanese), but I'm finding the written Han characters a pain in the rear... -

I read the post, and I don't see how it's spam. :-k There are a lot of people on the forums who will just post anything so they can add "1800 VIEWS LOLZ" in the subject... Sure it's annoying, but you have to remember a lot of users here are just kids age 15 or even lower. They need attention so they do it this way.
