Food for Thought
F2P, probably 250mil plus P2P, probably 1 billion plus. That's just my overall guessing. If you are going for lvl 99 all, you probably need double of those figures. Actually, the 30k per year salary is still consider quite low by normal standard, we usually use 20 bucks per hour so it would work out to be 38.4k per year. For the most part, here in Canada, after the tax deduction, we are looking at 28.8k per year. I think if you truly want to feel secure, at least make 4.5k a month => 54k a year if you are single, and total combine (couple total income) 8 to 10k a month if you want a nice life with kids and stuff. If you use that money, it could afford an ok mortgage and other things, but after all the expenses, you are kind of left with 200 bucks saving per month (assume you are single and not married have kids and stuff). I actually manage to get by pretty well with 1.9k a month with everything paid off. Not sure how long that will last since prices of everything else seems to going up like crazy, and salary usually stay the same. I think with more money, give you more security in real life so you don't have to worry about payments, but in RS, its just allows you to buy more expensive stuff or lvl up a skill, so the drive is slight different. Usually, the monthly expenditure are on Mortgage or rent Car insurance, car gas, car maintenance fee Phone/cellphone bills, internet bills, TV, Heat Food House maintenance fee, utilities bills, condo bills Medical bills Insurances for houses or apartment Additional expenses for children or seniors and the list goes on providing with other expenses such as entertainment or life/medical insurance. I think average people could probably earn 1mil to 1.5mil in their life time, but so much of it goes to paying off debt or interest by the time they get old, its not much left. Initially, I always wanted a job that can at least make 3.2k a month (2.4k after income tax) until my friend just said don't worry about trivial spending and those middle job, just get a good job and earn as much as you can.

What computer do you play runescape on?
LOL!, to be honest, everything seems in place except for that box of Crayola Pencils................ I tried not to eat around my desk where electronic equipment involve. One of my friend accidentally spill milk on her Logitech Gaming Keyboard and the back lit function stop working. I guess a lot of them are spill resistant now anyways.

autoers still a problem?
Lol what conscience? It's a game. Remember that RL > RS. You could pay your way through school, like Duke Freedom. OT: I don't condone or promote cheating in any way, so don't do it. It's against teh rules. That's the problem, as long mentality like that exist, there will always be botters around. Sure you are making good money and stuff, but it's like breaking the rules to earn the money, and justify that its ok because its a game. Well that just kind of blurrs out the moral for many things. Then people would justified that the people that in China that used to work in gaming sweat shops are trying to earn money too to actually make a earning not trying to get better flashy gadget like teens in North America. Who knows, maybe 10 hours to them would equal a decent meal or bag of rice that last for several days. Even it sounds legitimate, its still not right down in the sense. I also hear people talking about it as well, and it seems like the less impact it has on real life, the less important it is, people just get desensitize to those kind of things because its not a big deal to everyone. I guess only time it will affect is when every server has 1.5k autoers, and all the legitimate player quits and RS have to close down its door to make it somewhat significant? I mean, it's only a game, and no one is dying over it (that was sarcasm), it just mean that some hundred of people lost their jobs to maintain the game, and players simply lose another form of entertainment (of course, this is greatly exaggerated) I always go by this rule, when you are about to do something, if that voice inside your mind that tells you its good or bad, then its probably the honest truth. Too many times people just choose to ignore it, or justify it to make it sounds ok.

Music to my ears!
Well, since I am F2P, I can't comment on environment outside of F2P realm. But I thought they did a good job changing music on different section. As someone pointed out, if they expand the audio team more, it might get higher quality in the future. Again if you compare how WOW and RS started out and their operating platform. It would be on totally different scale. If they make PC version of RS just like WoW, I am sure they can hit even more HD with sound and graphic, but of course that would mean it limit a lot of computers to play since being able to play it on any older computer without too much resource was one of its selling point anyways.

The F2P General Discussion Thread
Like I said, I was only told it was f2p...and hoping it's not true... I will never understand most people who want these bonus xp weekends...People say it's "more fun"...how exactly? It's no different than before, other than getting more xp...? I guess it's, yet another, stupid human mindset of "bigger is better"...I feel like I'm one of the only people in rs who DOESN'T want this game to lose it's challenge...I'm surprised people are even playing still, rather than just waiting until Jagex starts handing out 99s for free...BUT ONLY 1 99/WEEK, CUZ OTHERWISE IT WOULDN'T BE FAIR AND WOULD BE 2 EZ. Truth be told, that mentality couldn't work most of the time. I know I always making statement such as back in the old days, now I feel like an old grandpa recollecting the memory lanes. For the most part, you can take the advantage of those temporary interesting event and try to enjoy it, or don't train anything if it does come out until the whole event finishes. I do feel the same that the game does get easier over the years, and it creates some negative balance between players. (Example would be getting your cook 99 pre and post cook x and ge update) But still, you got to move on with the time, and play as what you go for in the first place, to enjoy it. PS: if we shift the training style back to like 2001, I am sure a lot of players would probably start a riot. lol. I don't know if any of you remember the old style training which incorporate tons of walking, banking, and standing near banks shouting for hours on end...... I once told another player making 10k ammies (4k mage, 3k def, 2k str, and 1k power) was really hard, and he dismiss it being silly since its so easy to make it now. So I made the note of mentioning, what if you have to mine the gold ores, smelt it, and get the uncut gems yourself (purely from random event, monster killing, buying from general store and etc, and getting the cosmic runes yourself, not to mention shearing and spinning 10k wool (I used to wish I can fire blast those sheep when they run away)? He was a lot quieter after that for sure.

The F2P General Discussion Thread
For a week I was exclusively BHing. I would mine adamantite in the hobgoblin mine, then kill hobgoblins until I had 2-3 limps. I could do this 3-5 times before getting a target. I'm about 70% successful in killing targets, and about 60% successful in killing non-targets. I clocked the rewards to be about 400k-600k an hour... the key is that you can't die. You also use up resources (dying/food/potions) at a rate of 100-200k / hour. The only downside doing that in wildy, is rev would come by fairly often. With the hobgoblins method, I think I can get 300k gp constant without anything except range amours and a rune scimi (and like eat something when your hp drops a bit low).

Food for Thought
I had the same revelation when I was playing the game to a certain degree. I started the whole RS thing back when I was in university, and since I have lots of notes to read through, so I thought RS is a great game for it. Still, it would depend on different personality and their view on things. I consider myself quite dull and I don't get bored on stuff that quickly, I could play the same game over and over again even if they are decade old (to this extent, I still play NFS Hot Pursuit and Thief the Dark Project, and one of them is demo too, yeah, I can play a demo for over 11 years, I know that level design like my own place) For the most part, when I grind, I am usually doing something else, mostly reading or talking to people. So in essence, I didn't really waste any time, I always try to be productive when I train in RS like reading reports, or in recent years, figure out how much tax I have to pay.........(without afking of course). I was never big on money anyways. My goal has always been getting to all my lvls to 99 F2P style. I never had the desire to get any rares of even trim armor in the first place because I don't think they are practical. I just quietly working in the background and the money just add up. To me, any money I make now will be devoted to certain skills in the game (notably prayer and RC) To coin the phrase, money is happiness, I also think it has different personal definition as well. To me, its how I play the whole RS thing without getting bored. I used to play lots, I realized I once got nearly 40mil xp in just 7 months playing time (back when I started in 2005) My real life wasn't getting affected that much since I still read and attend lectures and stuff. But I realized that once you get to a point, either level or the amount of time you are playing, you are playing video game after all. This whole revelation which I refer to it as "veteran mentality". It's that time then I realize that I could slow down and enjoy the game more instead of going all out get tons of xp and burn out at the end which usually result in quitting. (which I notice a lot of high lvl players do sometimes). Simply put, I could put in 3 hours per day training time to get my goal in 5 years, instead of spending 10 hours per day getting it done in 2 years. Just like other players said, the game is not going anywhere. I sometimes even take breaks from game to refresh myself and play again to feel all excited again. While I was playing RS, I actually stop it for a while when I got into CS. The funny part when I talked to my gamer friend is I would say RS is mostly grinding involved, while CS is purely skill involved. While both statements have flaws in which I perceived later on, but in the end they are both games. Same with CS, I would spend almost 25 to 30 hours per week playing it to hone my skill and it can get very addictive with time flying by. That pretty much just make the point clear, even if you do quit RS, you are merely allocating all those time to another game anyways (unless you get a full or part time job, which is even better) Since I graduate from uni and got a job, I started focus more on the job and less on RS, but its been good to me for the most part. Its kind of like if you eat too much of good food all at once, you get sick of it. But if you eat it once in awhile, it actually taste better because you enjoy it more. Furthermore, I am still going toward my goal, albeit very slowly, but I will eventually get there someday. That to me, is fun in a nutshell. PS: I did took a Psyc course as an elective, I really do enjoy it, just hate the report writing, mid terms and finals which they like in essay format and find it very hard to have good marks in it. But I think its pretty good to understand psychological aspect of human nature which can be applicable in almost every field.

autoers still a problem?
That's pretty much the case, at least 2 is reportable and worth our time, unlike in the past, probably 30 per tree. The number of autoers now is probably slightly more than pre auto age, but significantly smaller than RWT age. The thing would be you will never be able to get rid of them, but at least minimize the potential for a need of them

Music to my ears!
In 2005, it was like that. Now? It hasnt been like that in a long time. Yes, there has been improvements, but still, not good enough quality for people who appreciate proper stereo recordings, which RuneScape audio is not and probably will never be. You never know how much Java Software can grow, if you compare RS from past to now, a lot of people would think now impossible in the past.

Mine runite ores if you can, if not, limpwurt root is a good idea. I was able to gather 200k worth of limproot in an hour when I train beside craft guild. The trick is not to pick up anything at all except limproots and possible stack-able runes. I did bury all the bones, again, its up to you if you want the prayer xp. Mining iron ore and bank them also gives you the cash since they are easy to mine and bank, should be 150k plus per hour for you without much issue. Of course all those number just pure estimate and depend on the current price on items. Making gems item with money u get also give you good profit so is making gold amulet, give you about 130k or more per hour

Why can't F2P have...?
I agree with Bladewing on this one, F2P and P2P are 2 different playing style, but we are both RS players that like different playing style, so its not comparable per say. But both side have amazing achievement. @ Tank, Being handicapped in certain parts of F2P doesn't make us true players, its just take the goal and approach more differently and longer, for the most part, we don't really need anything else, we are quite sufficient as our own, same thing would apply for P2P world as well.

F2P Crafting
Gold amulet for now, the bar price is always lower than than the gold amulet, you won't lose cash at the moment with the set up. When you have more cash, go for gems combo, I am not sure which one, but alot of people go for emerald rings or sapphire necklace these days.

Music to my ears!
New Melodie and Autumn Village, most memorable ones for me since my newbie days. I like peaceful music for the most part, very relaxing, Wcing, fishing. I used to change music to Mime music when I go to wildly in the old days, the wildy music is just to suspenseful for me Honestly sometimes I listen for those track too long, they become BGM during my dreams. When I am combat or range, that's a different story, I would turn off RS music, and switch to Techno Trance (or if I am compete with other players, Halo Combat Evolved), lol.

autoers still a problem?
Personally, I think its your choice if you want to respond or not. If Pmod did report you, they probably not going to tell that they did in the first place. Overall, the evidence is submit to Jagex to determine anyways. If you don't break any rules, you have nothing to worry about despite what anyone said. So yeah, ignore list is your best friend at avoid making confrontation

The F2P General Discussion Thread
Well, they do add up, and those extra 35 seconds could give you quite a lovable sum in the long run. Iron spots are ok at Remmy since you have 2 ores sites, and you can always move back and forth with those one. The best way is just to time yourself and see which one is more efficient, I like craft guild more because less people mine there for the silver. If you cabbage teleport back and bank and run back at top speed, it should be less than 45 seconds. Gems wise, just buy gold bars and make those emerald rings or gold amulets, or whatever gem combo. Craft the gold amulet when you waiting for gems to fill up in GE, when they are done, immediately do gem combo as first priority and sell them before price fluctuates again. Again there is trade off doing both options, so try both out to see which one is better, or just do both depend on times. As for those people, well its a fair game, you either stick long around enough to bump and force someone off the spot, or change world. I am kind of adamant toward those people who complains when someone is there training with them. It would be ok if they ask nicely, but most of the time, they are just being rude. Which is ok, because by tomorrow, you probably can't even remember their name anymore.

What computer do you play runescape on?
That's an awesome set up, bonus points for coffee and Aero. But if you think that's outdated, mine is even more outdated P4 2.6ghz CPU, with 1gb of ram, ATI 9800 Pro on a 4X AGP supported mobo only. Sound Blaster Live with 4 speaker plus subwoofer, and Logitech USB Headphones. Oh and 15 inch, CRT monitor by NEC thats like.....9 years old? Mouse is not bad, MX518, of course I use that to play CS and other FPs games too, and 20 dollars Func Sync Industry Mousepad. If I ever need to click coal fast enough in mining guild......1600 dpi and gaming mousepad will def give me an edge.............LOL PS: When I move to the last page, I thought I was in the wrong thread when other people were posting bunch of other stuff that wasn't related to the topic. I think a lot of mouse goes on sale all the time, you can actually get a pretty descent mouse at lower price if you shop around. Even those standard optical Logitech or Microsoft mouse do really well if you are not using it for FPS gaming. If you do, it won't be enough since their dpi is not sensitive enough to fast movement (unless you are those people that adjust their sensitivity to super high) But a higher price mouse does not mean its more ergo safe. I have hear people complain about those big mouses with numerous buttons because they wreck havoc with people that have smaller hands. To be honest if you play computer for too long in an awkward position, like mouse is higher than keyboard and away from keyboard, you are going to end up with wrist and shoulder problems, and that's just the beginning.

Coal carting as the other have mentioned, is usually great for xp, you simply bring higher ores to a field full of coal and additional ores, and make bars. Its just more efficient of getting 4K plus xp per trip instead of banking them every single time. Xp wise, I found cabbage teleport plus the shipyard booth is a great combo for mining gold and silver at craft guild, since you mostly one hit gold and silver, its faster to get one inventory to bank it at booth, and run back. Another great place to superheat ores is swamp or edgeville dungeon, but I like Edge better because less people mine there. You can also superheat steel bars too. Mining iron and banking them with booth and Remmington is also a good idea for quick xp, just make sure you pick an empty world. Lastly, I think wildy lvl 9 coal mine is a great place to mine since no one ever goes there, just watch out for revs that patrol around sometimes. (Coal carting method) As for craft, I think most of them actually give you profit now. Back then it was a total cash drainer as people buy tons of hard leather and make into hard leather body. I just buy tons of gold bars and make them into amulets. Its not a lot of money, but hey, at least I can get constant xp. Gems and rings and those combo ones takes too long in my opinion since it takes a while to buy a lot of them at a time. With bigger cost of raw materials, you always have to watch out for price fluctuation caused by the merchant clans.

Community Dev Diary: Striking a Balance
Lol this is so wrong..... Higher in rank people only shove the problems away to the people who do the real work for a company.. The top-managers (only the word "manager", it shows void of activities and unnecessary) of any company are often only people with a fast tongue who don't feel anything for their company, and only feel their pockets. And once it goes a bit bad with a company, they simply vanish, with the only help they give to the company is a demand for a "reward".. The only thing they can is blow their own ego up and talk about how important they are! Yet they're often so dumb, and know nothing about a subject they work for - But how can they? - They only have a short-term (<10 years) profit in mind and are even planning to leave the company in that time again, how can they ever become knowledge in such a short time? That's just my personal experience since my profession allows me talk to different kind of people, from doctors, lawyers, accountants, to CEOs. When you are in your late 50s close near 60s, your life will throw you a lot of curve balls (work and personal life). There are probably some hints of truth what you were saying, the top brass makes bunch of money and disappear when company is in trouble, we seen that too much of big companies on the news today. But if you build your company from the ground up, or start from a lower position, that would be a totally different story. If you ever trying to start a business, its pretty darn hard to do everything yourself. As you start out small and hire one person at a time, people tend to know each other, as companies grow bigger, issues will come rolling in. Try not to generalize it to a point that you automatically assume everyone in a higher up position only think for themselves, because not all of them do. After all, they are also humans too.

Holiday Quests
I like the factory management part for this year's event. I always consider them as event not as quest. I think its a little bonus if you become member and that you can do it if you missed it in the past. Being said that, I guess more people prefer the old style where event should stay around for certain time and disappear forever after it was done? Just for comparison, how was the first few Easter events compare to the recent Easter event now? Is it bigger or smaller for the most part? But my favoritism always been simple and short for most holiday event since I hate to solve puzzle for most part, and try to complete those event as fast as I can (still enjoy them nevertheless) Story wise, I guess its a continuity from previous Easter to see how is the Easter Bunny Junior is doing with their family business. I guess based on the player feedback, Jagex could always make a bigger event next year.

Top 250 F2P Skill Total List
You are right about Franzk being the first to 99 Prayer (and 126 combat), but I recall Artemk2005 being the first to 99 rc. Ah, thanks for correcting that, then Artemk2005 must be the other RC 97s+ beside Mendark 9, and I think his combat wasn't that high at the time, but he had higher non combat skill I think. All I could remember was that Syz got rc 99 and prayer 99 quite close to each other before they introduce trade limit update, hence he manage to get RC 99 taking full advantage of air walkers.

The F2P General Discussion Thread
I'd also appreciate a bury-x feature. My wrists hurt. Now that would defeated the purpose of Prayer being one of the hardest skill in F2P. Its kind of same thing saying firemaking X. Not really, because firemaking requires you to move. Also, prayer is crazy slow, and crazy expensive. There's no reason it should make you click so much. Also, firemaking gives a TON of experience for SUPER CHEAP. Just for a quick comparison, here is my stat back in December 2005, and since I start the game in May/June 2005, I don't have other data prior than that (2004 era). You can take a look at the rank in high score in comparison to my level at the time to get some idea what it was like back then. Which I just either categorize it as too bored no one want to train it, or too hard no one want to train it category. Keep in mind, the number of people play RS now is way more compare to before. FM rank high because there wasn't any purpose to train them, so no incentive for other players at that time Cook ranked high before cook x was introduced, so it was medium skill back then (think of them as firemaking)

Top 250 F2P Skill Total List
http://djpailo.tripod.com/famousplayers.html Thanks for the list, quite a lot of valuable information on it for sure. But still, it doesn't have the list I wanted, which is each skill achieved by First F2p that obtain each one, but I guess its too hard to verify them anyways. I think if my memory serve me correctly, Franzk got first F2p prayer 99, and Syzygy got first RC 99? I met Sindylewhew many times while mining at craft guild or cutting trees, she used to say she saved ALOT of yew logs waiting to be fetched if she become member one day. (said something like she tries to cut 1k yew and mine 1k coal per day as personal goal, 0_0)

The F2P General Discussion Thread
If I remember correctly, it suppose to be 2x monster lvl plus 1, which is lvl 115 cbt, in order for them not to be aggressive. When I was training for lvl 124, I would just range and melee depend on different time, I would wear full range armor but melee for first 15 minutes, after icy wars stop being aggressive, I then train range. It used to be a funny sight where you would see people running all over ice cave trying to avoid ice wars, and try to position themselves for ice giants. That would waste lots of time when u want to train melee, just whack anything that attacks you and when you are all safe, move on to the ice giants. Back to prayer, there is a reason why prayer being hardest skill to train because you have to click on them plus very little xp (make it even harder to train for F2P, old wildy bury bones and big bones anyone?), look at those skill which allow you to click just once and then don't worry about it for 30 seconds. Tons of people have those in high 90s or even 99s. The one that requires constant attention would equate to harder one to train. That being said, people would eventually ask for a mine x, mine one rock, and their guy would home in on a near by available rock too? You can ask anyone who play RS before cook X was introduced, its click on fire and food, and then its cooked, so a lot of back and forth required. Its all about perceptive of how hard you think the skill is, because back then, IT IS a lot of clicking (not that I am saying grinding and having carpel tunnel means you are PRO in any way. But its not comparable anymore since the xp, the attention, and the effort reaching both 99s is entire different (good example would be Cooking, even better one is smelt X, which I heard used to be one click at a time) When I started out, I remember I used to fish in Lumbridge river and Lumby castle bank wasn't even there. I had to walk all the way from Lumby River to Dryanor bank to bank my trout and salmon (which I manage to accumulate like plus 10k for both, and cooked, and hey, cook x wasn't even a feature back then). (I mentioned it once, and one of the nearby player just said, pfft, just use Explorer Ring, I was like, ugh, yes, if that was around back then, it would made my life a lot easier too) If you look at pre GE top F2P, and compare post GE update top F2P list, you would see tons of xp increase compare to back then, because buying stuff was easier, and people can spend more time grinding instead of standing at World 1 Varrock or World 2 fally buying items and wars. It always come back to the part where I use a prime example of RC. Before the air walkers was wildy use, many F2P are struggling with it pretty much, those that was using traditional way RC was a lot slower back then (again), just check the time like 5 months before trading limit was introduced and made world 16 RC obsolete for a while. I guess I just have this old mindset where you simply can't compare the old days training vs new age training, not to mention all the xp are mixed together, so you have no idea if that person train through the old style or new style (both grinding, but one is easier since obtain resource and with some new in game features like gloves, token, skill x was introduced). Unless someone has a snapshot of top F2P list before the trade limit was introduce, which I consider the major event in RS F2P history. To cap it off, when Franzk got first F2P prayer lvl 99, everyone in high F2P community were pretty excited, since he achieved what we considered was kind of impossible at the time. ( I would even check his prayer lvl daily to see it grow and grow more closer to lvl 99, kind of like hey a F2P is finally getting his prayer 99) That time, big bones were 300 ea on average? Normal bones were like.....well, market price make it anywhere from 50 to 100ea or anything, since everyone consider them worthless (GE definitely bring up the value). Hence why prayer has always been one of the toughest skill to get (beside RC 99)

Top 250 F2P Skill Total List
Im going to enjoy passing you  :D As long as I stay under rank 100 I'm okay with that ;) I am sure once the new skill is released, everything will changed for a while. Not to mentioned that we will eventually see first 100 players all maxed out (someday) or more. Of course, legend never dies, they just fade away, more so in legend only remains in those who remembers them. People often mentioned Diament's name when top F2P topic come up, but when I mentioned names like Galaxy or Mendark 9, people will go, who are those people? Lol Did someone make a list of who achieve first F2P lvl 99 somewhere? Like fishing, cooking, woodcutting

autoers still a problem?
If a player mod talks to me while I have private chat OFF I hope it's a very serious matter, not something simple as wether I bot or not.. You know: maybe I have private chat on for a reason? (I don't want to be bothered by questions).. If a pmod asks me such a question I consider that very rude, and I will probably simply ignore the pmod! Even if a Pmod does talk to another player, if they think they are botting, they would naturally observe you for a while. I guess its more so on judgment calls since I know alot of players out there multitask alot, and doesn't spend alot of time in the RS window itself. On the subject of AFKing, if you are right beside the computer, then it would be alright, I called it AFW, away from RS window, as you could be checking out forums and stuff, I even know several players play Starcraft, CS, txing on phone, and RS all at same time ( yeah, its insane) But if you leave you computer to go to bathroom or get a drink, I guess a few feet away, it would be considered as AFKing, unless you use wireless keyboard mouse, and have this remote goggle that allows you to transmit the info from video card itself which allow to play wireless since you can still have interaction with the input and affect the game (That would be pretty cool). On term of that, with the new lobby feature now, I wonder if you can log to lobby and then leave the computer and do something else and come back to enter the world again. Strict definition aside, it would be AFKing, but then again, you are not in the world training anyways? Well, at least you have the risk of someone entering your room still and mess around if you are not careful
