  1. I do hope you mean a portion of F2P, not all the F2P out there. Granted, with bigger population of F2P, there are ones that tend to act immature on forum (if that's what you were referring to). Still, to generalize it to that degree would be saying F2P have no manners overall. I have been F2P for long time, I used to use RS forum just to sell and buy stuff with pm made by members on forum in the past. Even after they released the forum to higher xp F2P, I am not sure if lots of players use it. I don't really think Jagex should let F2P use the forum just because I think it should remain a member feature, but not used as a tool of excuse to make all F2P looked bad. In regard to the overall statement mentioned at the top of the forum, every company has to put some sort of thought into the things they released into the public. RS was a lot smaller back then which is easier to manage, as the game grows bigger, they will run into various management issues just like any other companies out there. I think in the end, you either stick with what you tolerate and continue playing the game, or simply walk away if you think the game is not worth your while anymore. Or Jagex could capped their player database at certain point, and never let anyone join again plus hire enough staffs to answer questions as humanly fast as possible. Then again, what company would do that? Personally, currently I think there is a plateau in terms of new players playing the game, F2P and member wise. As a company, they have to break that saturation point to retain and attract new players out there. I don't know what Andrew and other original developer would think of this whole new change to the game they once put so much effort into, but I wouldn't want to place myself in their shoes due to possible stress level coming from it. It all looks good on the outside until you step in, then you know how deep and sticky the whole mess are. If you ever study how real world business go, or any other related topics out there, its pretty brutal out there. You have people working on the front line taking all the heavy fire even if they didn't start anything, then you have supervisors working overtime without pay trying to fix mistakes other departments made. Sometimes CEO and higher up have to risk their neck if the company goes down. (of course, most people won't care because it's none of their business if something happen to someone else, human nature FTW) Higher position and pay you are, the more risk it involves, unless you decide its all good and give the job to someone else and retire. Just my two cents here
  2. But I think it was one of the rule that you also have to respect their decision, some people do value their privacy too. Majority of the F2P I know don't mind of putting themselves on it, but I think small amount of F2P do mind being on the list. It's like you can't help it if your on the RS highscore list, but people would need to know you to look you up. More so that if you are on the list, then everyone knows who you are to certain extent.
  3. I do think its mostly people who try to power lvl instead of getting GP to sell, since that type of bot has dwindle down significantly. Simply report them will do the job since amount of autoers has reduced a lot compare to the old days. We can at least deal with that much. Being said that, people are also too paranoid at times due to those botphobia and want to confirm those who seem so autonomous such as firemaking or mining. PS: which is hard to tell, I could be mining at the same time and reading stuff, and not really paying attention if anyone is talking to me.
  4. I'd also appreciate a bury-x feature. My wrists hurt. Now that would defeated the purpose of Prayer being one of the hardest skill in F2P. Its kind of same thing saying firemaking X. I am sure those max out f2p or people achieve prayer 99 must have a sore wrist for a while Its almost like people who got cook 99 can't imagine pre cook x 99 age. Something like this was a common theme in old days. Someone light a fire in Karajama Island. People scamper beside it to cook food someone step on the fire Almost everyone will go Plz get off the fire, or get off the the fire noob, or hmm, whatever u can think of. After cook X comes out, it become almost a semi AFW skill, and of course, highscore rank for cooking changed within few months If Dragon bones are introduced into F2P, I wonder who can even afford them beside really rich F2P, seeing how big bones are 600ea plus now. (Unless you mine a lot of runite)
  5. Remember those zombies and skeletons down in Draynor sewer, Edgeville Dungeon, and Hobs around the Edgeville Mine. That's where I use to train, as both have simple access to banks. There wasn't that many type of monsters back then, the one with plenty of HP and hits low are quite limited. The good drop one such as Mossies, Hillies or Icy are always crowded.
  6. Yep, that's what I did too. In fact, that is the ideal room to train on Flesh Crawlers. Oh and do you guys like the new holiday event? I personally love it, but I don't like the fact that you can only summon the squirrels once every 30 mins. >_< The training is intended for lower levels, and in my opinion its way better xp and DROP compare other monsters. When I first started RS, I train my combat from lvl 3 to 75 in about 3 weeks hitting nothing but, zombies, skeletons and hobgoblins (with addy plate, d hide leg, black sq shield, steel full helm, plus my trusty mith scimi, oh yes, I used my mith scimi from when I can wield it until combat lvl 75, and bear in mind, I wasn't being cheap, I just being very sentimental to things I first purchased, and they were doing their jobs) , Keep in mind, limproot worth like 100gp ea back then, gems were regarded as useless unless you cut them the only possible good thing out of it was just occasional nature, cosmic, death, and law runes.
  7. And in a demo you can only do a certain amount of things before you can't go any further. How many times must it be repeated to make people understand, F2p isn't a demo!! This would be like...Gnome copters. Except you can actually do things yourself (Very limited amount, I'm sure. I've not actually seen it nor heard of it before now.) True that, F2P is anywhere from being a demo, many f2p players have been training in it for so long but they still haven't able to achieve all different kind of combination F2P world offers. On another note, even if a game is demo, some people would get enjoyment out of it. I used to remember how I would play certain demo again and again simply because they load faster and pretty much that's all some player wanted. I remember play NFS Hot Pursuit 2 demo for 4 years, sometimes even spend 2 hours doing the same demo track over and over again to get the best time before I actually purchased the game. The game itself was actually few NFS series combine together, lol. The sad thing is, even thought I have the game, I still have the demo installed and not the actual game, and still play the demo instead...hahahaha.
  8. Yes. If lower is better? Beat ya :) [/hide] oh ya? how about this? Yeah, I manage to get my score down in about 700 something but 12 turns, since I wasn't really paying attention to it while I was assigning workers. I don't know why everyone is complaining about it, its simple and fun this year, unlike the previous few which can take a while. Personally, I also hate thinking too much, maybe that's why I like this even t more, lol. But its a fun holiday event overall. I usually enjoy them, but I also want to do them quickly so I can get back to my training again. For some reason, I still want to go back and do it again since its kind of fun to see what kind of score u can get. Not to mention I never had a chance to get rabbit year in the first place, so I am kind of glad I got something more fun instead, plus you can do cool emote and summon with it, which is a big plus for F2P. But the thing I really want is a rubber chicken, I would choose that over any rares in RS. lol (Unless you can place a party hat on someone, having a count down on it and it explodes and creating a lot of fireworks and cloud of smokes)
  9. Well, the idea is certainly great, since I am all against RWT big time. On the other hand, how does F2P fit into this theme? I remember awhile ago, Jagex was thinking about that Jump Drive key code idea, which I thought it was great too but after seeing so much input from other players (which definitely help them think outside the box), it doesn't seem to be a viable solution anymore. I am a F2P myself, and I can afford membership if I wanted to, but I sort of want to drag this game out as long as I can, so being a F2P is a challenge and achievement for me. I wonder if you buy something from RS to secure your own position, it would still be call F2P? I think somewhere down the line, some online MMORPG will think of a great solution to RWT problem, and then others will follow. For now, we can only do the best we can and not get involved or report rule break we see. After all, if no one buys online gold, there wouldn't be those RWT merchant in the first place.
  10. That's pretty much my philosophy for RS, I play the way I wanted to (without breaking or offending rules). When I started playing this game, I would get taunted about my lower level in everything, well everyone have to start somewhere? But I think when the friends you make during that time are more genuine (since they make friends with you most likely due to similar interest, instead of based on your combat level). Which explains why I rarely (if ever) add anyone now since a lot of them just notice my combat level (some even called me by my combat lvl, not my name, lol) Well, if you are quitting RS, then the decent thing you could do at least is just leave your account alone. I think some people have this mentality that, oh if I don't need this thing anymore, lets just wreck it as much as we can. How many rules did you break by wanting to quit RS? It's like, I am high and mighty above everyone (after several years of playing, then you realize it), but you leave the place and messing it up at the same time. If I do quit RS, I will just keep it under deep freeze. If you go as far as getting everything cut off by doing extreme thing. Well just like Pink said, you have no self control. I guess its kind of like smoker's addiction, you will come back to it if you are enticed enough? To be honest, when you put your info in the forum, people will bound to go after it. Either the young 10 year old, wow a high account for free so I can show off. Or an account hacker, wow, a money making opportunity. I often have lower level players following me saying stuff like, "when you quit RS, can I have your account?" I would immediately got mad and start reprimand those right away about training hard for your level (they either said sorry and move on, or stuff like, sure whatever nolifer...........ugh...right) One thing would be I spend so much time on this is, I consider the character as part of me in terms of friends I make and my overall action, the other thing would be that with all the effort I put in, I don't want someone to randomly flaunt my achievement and use it to abuse other users. But back to the part, its human nature, people want to get those levels to show off, I met a lot of humble players in my RS years. Even they gloated once in awhile, but I can totally see where that's coming from since I do that myself sometimes, to me, its a funny controversial recognition. (Kind of like saying, yeah, I hear ya, all those hours spend on grinding, the pain, the hurting wrist). It's true that those that buy levels and use autos and RWT part that anger a lot of honest players, but they are part of ugly truth behind all online games, I haven't seen any online MMORPG that hasn't got affected by RWT. It's another demand vs supply thing. Demand: Player who want easy way out or show off, Supply, People who use this to make money. I sometimes see high level quitting doing things like this saying how bad the game has gone downhill. I am not sure about the overall community since I mostly spend on skill lvling alone. But to me, my community are the few selected friends I made during my younger RS years, and those I see everyday on the same world as well those I came to respect on Tip It forum. And to cap it off, I think a high level account would worth more than 200 to 500 bucks, since you most likely spend at least 3k hours on it. Take that into part time job, would give you about.....30K CDN/US? Take that into full time job, would give you about 60K CDN/US? That's not even counting the income tax, EI, CPP, 4 percent vacation pay, plus potential RRSP contribution. Wit that money, you could bought a mid level sedan or sport coupe, or a 4x4, or even put down a small down payment for an apartment......
  11. For those who are interested, here is a shot of me and a friend observing Mendark 9 going at RC Airs for 4 hours straight (maybe 4 hours plus, because when I was about to leave, he is still there, walking away........),and of course, doesn't really talk during that time when we try to strike up a conversation. It was taken on Sept 2006 http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/1826/95765952.jpg Well one of the reason that a lot of people have slowed down their training because due to real life responsibility, I know a lot of players back there are in high school or universities where training and studying was quite viable, now most of them are working, its hard to keep it on par with past training style. Of course, if you been playing for long time and many hours per day, the xp count would be quite insane. Tip It Forum mods, let me know if its appropriate to link images from external site here, if not, feel free to edit/delete them if its against the rule
  12. They are lacking for reason that, well, quite annoying to train. Imagine if we don't have those mini games and no GE, it will even be harder to train. Oh, then again, people could just use air walkers. On another note, there are tons of F2P legends out there, its almost like a legend whole sale.
  13. These aren't 2007, but I had them saved: February 2005 March 2006 May 2008 And as far as 2007, I have a picture of the top 29. >.> It's right before Syzygy passed Mendark 9: May 2007 Thanks Oce, I am doing this purely for personal interest. Doing monthly shot of high score doesn't really amount to anything or maybe yearly or every 6 months just to compare? I have take bunch of high score screen shots when I was training a lot, sort of like a training diary. I just want to compare how much xp I got during certain months, and how much I got compare to now. To do an xp speed comparison. Interestingly enough, I wasn't even in the list during Feb 2005, since I started in Mayish, but manage to get into 70s rank in March 2006. Looking at those old top F2P names certainly takes me back, lol And looking at 2007 if Mendark 9 kept on going, well, old history now
  14. Well, to ones that started their game during RS2 period it does considered as old, since its like 6 years ago. Even though RSC is older, but whenever you start the game. thats when old school starts for you. Who knows maybe they will release another version of RS 5 years from now where you can play with virtual helmet. and then they will consider RS HD old school
  15. Yeah, I agree on that part. Whenever I play CS or other FPS games, the leet one that got killed by the average players tend to grunt in frustration and something like I can't believe I just let a newb killed me that sort of mentality. When you get killed, u died, well, u died because due to sequences of events. Sure, you skill will make you consistent winner MOST of the time, but they simply think that they are better than rest of the players. To be honest, without those "newbs" there is no one to play with. I talked to gamers who focus more on strategies to compensate for their weakness. Everyone has a strong and weak point, but just categorize that everyone who does not perform as good as you are inferior than you is a misunderstanding to being with. Granted, I can see why some players have animosity toward those so called dumb players, because they do act dumb or for whatever reasons to disrupt the game. Back then I used to consider that RS isn't so much as skill but just grinding because it was so xp and rank oriented, but thinking skills can be developed mentally by how to train faster, efficient and cost effective in all the aspect. In terms of FPS like CS, yes skill does play a huge factor, but teamwork and co operation performs even bigger factor. You will always complete your objective if everyone helped each other, and if you think you are elite and don't need help and start disrespecting people, then you end up being the "odd" one out because you think highly of yourself. I always judge a pro's overall performance by how he treat his team mates not just his skill, I seen pros help out less experienced player and out glass a group of experienced player. It's a win win for both parties instead of stand alone I will mow down everyone on my own and I dont need newbs in my way mentality. Of course, just my 2 cents on the subject. Actually, back to the "original" topic, I honestly think that players do get benefited from a game. Some got inspired by the game directly or indirectly and succeed in life. However I seen alot of player got "epic" failed in their real life because of their addiction the game itself. Not to mentioned the ones that got helped by the game did well in real life, is significantly way less compare to the ones that were hampered by it. I ought to know since I used to train a lot, but ever since I start working and understand the workings of the real world, its good to put game aside and reset your priorities. Still, I don't quit the game because I just to leave it completely, I want to prove that with enough balance in life, you can make the cake and eat it too. As a joke to my other RS friend during my real camping trip a few years back. NO, WC and FM lvl 80 does not make you chop real tree faster, in fact, you can probably make a slight splinters in the tree trunk after 10 minutes or swinging, and actually start a fire in 3 minutes or more with help of starter fuel. Man those rune axe and tinderboxes are so misleading, lol
  16. Does anyone have a snapshot of the old F2P list back in 2007? I just thought what they rankings were before the new updates such as GE introduced into the game. It's just my own opinion since I thought the training speed back then compare to current f2p is a lot faster compare to 2004 to 2007. Of course, from when game started to 2003, it was probably even slower.
  17. I simply think in terms of good old days before the end of 2007 where I considered the RS glorious day. Of course, I am perfectly content with the current update that certainly make the game easier but true enough lost some of its originality in the past. I remembered how I have to stand for long period of time to purchase the item I want, while be careful not to get scam when trading over cash for items or vice versa. The GE update surely was by itself a very successful update and did help training and other aspect of game a lot easier than they used to. Perhaps Jagex will try to revive the old blood by reintroducing the old concept back into the game but without all those previous bot issues before. Other things worth mentioning is the number of players playing RS currently, I think the number of new players have dropped significantly compare to the past, it might something to do with the demands greatly exceed the supply (less new player gathering materials). I remember how crowded each world is when I first started RS (before the bots were out of control). Maybe the new skill will bring in fresh batch of new and older players back in the game. I do like the idea with interactive co op quest or additional mini games. It was kind of annoying I had to do that shield of array quest with another player, but looking back, it was probably more interesting than other quest. I am mostly skiller in other aspect, and participate in a group project isn't my forte. Once in a while for a group game to relax does sound like a good idea. (Strong contrast to WOW, since you can kind of solo alot of things, but the main emphasis lie in working as a team to do raids and stuff) Interesting enough, a lot of people that I know that used to play RS when they were younger (some started as early as grade 4 to 6) and going to high school now or preparing for university have tried RS again after been absent for long time. To my knowledge most of those players never really stick for that long anyways. I guess too many other entertainment options out there, not alot of players would want to spend long time training in RS.
  18. I would say that Earth profit beats Airs to a point until another RC lvl is reached where you can make more airs per trip that evens out earth's multiplier of 4 (higher than 8, or 9). I never really make earth runes except one time for the fun of it. Simply said even with tablets and gloves, the time factor would even out acquiring both items in both mini games. I don't know if any one actually did a calculation of doing all the mini games and rc to factoring all the times, vs making earth runes alone. That being said, if you are merchant or runite mine or both to fund body talisman binding. I think that would yield the most xp? Since I am not sure if anyone still uses RC to help supplement their prayer anymore. On another note, the new low lvl dungeon new monsters drop alot of talisman, maybe it will bring down prices of talisman in the future?
  19. Probably work more and have more saving in the bank and then invest in RRSP and TFSA? Learn new tool of trade so have a 2nd job in this unstable economy to pay for additional taxes and unforeseen expenditures? Too much to list, but its also like saying what could you have done if there is no PC or any type of electronic related games or entertainment (no TV) in the world. Hmm, that would be a interesting and horrifying concept to think of, but I think everyone will be more healthier that way and put less stress on the health care system.
  20. Well, that's how it usually started. Whenever F2P get something, some people get a little trigger happy with open discussion and just fire away. I am kind of surprised that they took this from another POV saying that Jagex haven't done anything major for this year. I guess the only thing that will wow people now would be the new skill. Anyways, we get the mask, and 3 weapons (2 music track) as reward for completing the quest right? Well counting the xp and access to the dungeon, plus 2k from those statues.
  21. If I was first introduced to the game, this update would definitely helpful to me both experience wise and item wise. I got good number of amulets and necklaces from monsters, not to mention runes, and even talismans (and those thing are expensive, I got 3 water in like 5 minutes, that's like 30k worth as long they sell at GE). I really like the story line too. I guess from member point of view, it doesn't seem that much to them, well, more so for the helm. I was expecting they would grant them something special, but you never know what it might does in the future. Still, its really funny if you look at the other thread and they are getting out of control by discussing this topic. While we just sit here and enjoy the whole thing. In the past, whenever an update comes out, they always get praised or beat down by different opinions, but I think its someone's hard work and a good finish product, so I always try to enjoy it as much as I can. I guess other things we can also look forward to would be the new skill coming this year. Then again, F2P is all good by itself, anything we get extra is always welcome, but definitely not the end of the world if we don't get anything for the next ten years to come.
  22. They just want the shiny crown. And the rumors probably come from immature kids who are too lazy to find out for themselves and therefore make these things up. What I find really ironic though, is that for every person that says they are too lazy to read the information, they are typing that in response to something they've just read. But I guess they want it all on a silver platter. But the average player, or at least a fair chunk of them, finds something inherently wrong with figuring things out by themselves, such as checking the GE database or the manual. I use both, because in all honesty its usually faster to check it yourself then to ask someone. As you can tell by this mini-rant, people being too lazy to read stuff is one of my pet-peeves. That is very true, a lot of players simply want the status of Pmods and their mute powers so they can show off to other people. I even remember people tell me how Pmods can mute whoever they want (well, if you want the status to get revoked and not to mention totally immature) I seen other people envy Pmods not for their true purpose in the game, but for the fact that the special crown and temp mute powers they possess. I always like a phrase from Spiderman, "with great power comes with great responsibility", unfortunately a lot of them only look at the "power" but not the responsible part. Then again, a lot of players respect Pmods too, as long as you respect them back. I seem players have positive response when Pmods do respond to them back, instead of saying one word reply and continue doing their stuff. Overall, my mentality is don't envy Pmods, just play the game as you wanted to, if you get choose as one, that's great, if not, its no big deal. Because we all play RS simply because we enjoy RS. Lastly, as many regular players don't even know they are can report rule breakers too, so there isn't much difference between them except for the mute. Simply stick to the rule of report discreetly and walk away will do more good for the community in the long run.
  23. Actually, the number of Pmod have increased dramatically over last 2 years. At least that's how I felt anyways. Since there are so many new security updates being implement into the game, I found it interesting for the role of the pmod, I guess its not as that many things to look as before. The article does bring several good points about reading what Pmods can or can't do, but I feel that most players were just too lazy to go through all that info. For the most part, I just tell them that whatever Jagex want you to know about Pmod, its there, any other speculations that's not covered, well, they are not covered for a reason. I even seen players that set up their own personal goal as to become player mods one day, and got side tracked off the game and end up trying to report all the rule breakers they can find. At least I don't see any overzealous Pmods out there that make it their daily goal to report certain amount of rule breakers, which in my opinion too much work and deviates from the game you are suppose to enjoy.
  24. Is the weekend double xp thing for both p2p and f2p, or just p2p only?
  25. Actually, 8mil is fairly cheap, consider people actually buy unstrung symbol for reason god knows why. I remember when people just dump tiaras and unstrung into the general store after they are done with them (10 and 20gp each respectively). I guess they become alittle valuable after the GE introduction, and some possible demands in p2p world. Before the hype of gemming the necklaces or rings, or making symbols. Cowhides was the way to go, and undoubtedly fastest xp too (37 something mil in the past if you opt for cow hides and tanned it yourself), but now its too expensive compare to the other method, but if you hve alot of cash, its still and probably even faster way of training. As for range, I thought it was more fun training it compare to cook because when I range ice giants, i could compete with other people, or just do various tricks with it and see how fast I can kill them. I still remember the time when people would come in, ask your range lvl, and if you said 90s or more, they will usually log out right away, lol When I have 97 range, I could even beat most lvl 120s in terms of killing speed (of course, I had to use addy arrows, and eagle eye on). That was fun. Cooking is really easy if you read or do other stuff at the same time. It was hard when you have to click on fire and back to inventory in the old days, and annoyed even more when people standing on the fire. After cook X comes out, cooking went from medium hard skill to easy type. By the way, did you make symbols from silver bars, or silver ores, Ani? I am making mine from ores, and its taking me forever. The only thing I feel a bit better was tiny smith xp i get from smelting them first, lol (Assuming 700 done in one hour. so 220+ hours to go, lol)
