  1. I actually start with Ice giants when my range lvl is 60, and I just use bronze arrows, maybe I was just being very cheap, lol Man it was tough gathering arrows before GE came out, spend like 5 hours straight world hopping after system update just to get 30k plus bronze arrows...good times
  2. The problem with Hillies and Ice Giants is that they are usually too crowded by other players or have other monsters guarding them. Unless you have combat lvl 115, Ice warriors will bother you to no end. Hill giants are very competitive too by other players since they drop big bones and limp root. I manage to get good amount of drop from Ice giants since I usually just keep on looking for world with no one around so I usually have 2 to 3 giants to myself. Last time I check, most ice caves are empty during the low time. With hobgoblins, since they do drop runes and gems, and they don't need that much food to fight with, and not to mentioned abundance of them (Craft guild, entrance to ice cave, hillie dungeon and of course wildy itself) I think its a good way to level up prayer and melee stat at the same time. That being said, I still bury all the bones from hobgoblins I killed, just during every hit intervals when melee them. helps saves the time. I haven't actually buy any bones in large amount (except like 1k of normal bones just to try it out, and giving some new players jobs to do), and my prayer is pretty much stuck there for past 1 year and half (won't matter since I need another few more pray lvls to gain another combat lvl anyways), of course, genie lamps and book of knowledge always get the first dips on prayer in my book.
  3. Just wondering on the side, I am sure Jagex knows about the existence of this Top 250 F2P thread and list. Have they said anything in the past that mentioned anything about top F2P players? I don't think its a way to promote high lvl F2P, but more of less recognize the community itself?
  4. I have a very tiny cash pile (~1M), so money DOES matter for me. That is why I try to profit in every way possible. :) And speaking of prayer... you know what, I'm not even going to train it. Total loss, and totally slow. I'm not sure if it is slower than runecrafting, but it definitely is more click intensive. Actually, if you don't mind some mindless training, I would suggest hobgoblins to train for combat, range, or melee. With the price of limproot these days, 2.4k to 2.6 roughly ea. I was able to get 60k worth in just 20 minutes. (If you don't pick up the bones and other smaller items, that might be even faster) Of course the other more efficient method would be get mining to 85 and just go for runite ores in the wildy.
  5. Part of the fun is discussing what the new skill might be, just like the other thread discuss about possible dynamic dungeons and quest. I think any ideas would be good to help past the time. That being said, shape shifting does occur in other MMO before, and if Jagex did state that it's never been done before then I am totally stumped what it will be. At the same time I am also excited that its never been done before, since I can't figure out how they manage to pull it off. I am usually passive about those kind of update since I am more of a skiller type person. Even with all the major updates happen in the past until now, I think nothing big has change in terms of game, at least for myself. Its just something that I thought would be fun to talk about while waiting patiently for the new skill to come out. As I stated before, I have no idea how much older content they have to take into account to incorporate shape shifting into the game. I thought it would definitely interesting if you can morph into something during battle to keep your opponents always on their toe. A new factor that you have to take into consideration so its not just protect from mage, range or melee anymore.
  6. Well that makes more sense now when its explain in detail. But if the shape shifting doesn't involve all the mentioned quests or holiday events, its still somewhat doable. But yes I can see what the problem is to take account into the old pre existing transformation. Like I said, I didn't know member could transform into their familiars, I only aware of rabbits and turkeys. Still the concept would be interesting if it could happen.
  7. I am not really sure what you mean by back dated, but I am assuming that shape shifting itself it a concept, but it doesn't have to be morphing into animals. Maybe a rock to fool your enemy when you are in Pvp, of course, that would be annoying, lol Still, its the only thing I can think of that doesn't really fall into any other skills at the moment. And if they have been working on it for years, all the existing transformation should have already been taken care of. Well, more or less
  8. I read through few parts of the forum to see if this has been discussed or not, but it doesn't seem like the case so I guess its fine to post. I was talking to a friend on RS a while ago, and of course wrecking out brain out trying to see what the new skill might be. Of course for next little while, anything we mentioned already falls under one of the existing skills. As we are trying to come up with one that fit the whole RS theme (medieval). Then it suddenly dawn on me, why not shape shifting, or morphing, or transformation. Its not exactly summoning, and not exactly magic, and it does help combat if you can shift into something that has different ability. Imagine yourself morph into a dragon, and the players your are fighting suddenly have to do something about your dragon fire breath when they don't expect it. We did see a few of it being practice for quest and holiday event effect (the turkey and the Easter ring), but never on bigger scales then that. Base on one of the thread that some new game mechanics will be introduced along with the new skill makes me thing that if shape shifting does get induced into the game, it would make it interesting since you can do many new things that you can't do as your human avatar. That being said, since I am a F2P so I don't really investigate if member have similar features already, but it does makes sense that shape shifting can help combat, and it would be like prayer, that it has a certain cast time. and u need to recharge once you used it up. It would also help other skills too just like agility that open to new area. Anyways, I am sure tons of other players could come up with cool suggestion, so see if you agree with this new possible skill or not, and list out potential things that you could do if you can morph into something else. Like my other friend suggest, it certainly cool when someone ask your ss lvl, shape shifting lvl. lol
  9. My bad, by AFK i meant dual monitoring or alt-tabbing, not actually away from keyboard I tend to use the term interchangeably Lets invent a new term call AFRSW, stands for away from Runescape window, so no one would be trigger happy about "AFKing" I know a lot players play for efficiency. I thought I know some good ways of training until someone pointed out to me there are much better and faster way (which reduce my training time from 6 yrs to 4 years until goal completion) But I can totally agree with some others training at less faster pace to enjoy the games overall. I also like to enjoy certain skills that's probably not the most time efficient way, but at least it takes a good 1 to 2 minutes before I have to look at it again. Thus, those are what I called AFRSW skill, like fishing and wcing, or some form of smithing. For the most part, I don't really read the forum or doing other things rather than reading books or watching videos, and I usually have both window showing up so I can take notice on the RS side too in case someone ask me something (I think its kind of impolite not to respond back, but thats just me), so I am enjoying the game at my own pace, even though there are faster way to get it. In the end, no matter how you train it, if you reach you goal, its all good (legally, of course)
  10. I guess that's why they are taking a lot of time to balance it out so it wouldn't disrupt the integrity of both F2P and P2P world. From what it seems so far, the new skill will be confine to one area specifically, since you need to get there by a ship (or a quest that involve it to activate first). So if there is harder monster, it probably apply to mid range f2p, not higher lvl ones. I don't really know what else are harder beside the Revs in wildy. Other monsters even the Greater or Soldiers doesn't seem that hard for lvl 100 plus
  11. Actually, I think there is enough world as it is, for F2P anyways. Many times when I look at different world, they never really exceed 300 to 400. But maybe the time when I play was the low time. I remember back in the days with less world, most world are half full and alot are close to 2k full all the time. Sure it was crowded, but its seems livelier oh, just realize that it was during the time the Bots were pretty common, lol
  12. I never really pay much attention to the economy in RS, but after experience so many dramatic changes in prices and things recently and past few years. I solemnly pay tons of attention to future updates and major announcement from now on.......
  13. Yes, we need cheese or make cheese in f2p, it was really tough when the pizza base, tomato, and anchovies can be obtain through the shop (or GE), but not cheese, and its really hard try to make 4k anchovies pizza with 2 minute spawn time for 10 piece of cheese........ PS: 800 pieces of cheese collected and counting I am not sure about Chaos crafting, since I thought most people train their mage through superheat, but asking for F2p to make Nat would be too much content give away. Another new hard boss type would be nice, it nice to go and hunt rev once in a while, but they don't really drop anything good though.
  14. I think when he says 'afking,' he means 'browsing the forums' and whatnot, as this is the shortest way of saying so. I would say 'afs (away-from-screen)', but no one's ever heard of that before. Then I guess another term is more appropriate, like AFS or AFRS, because Jagex did mentioned that the term AFK is against the rule. It might be misinterpreted if you blurted out in game. Since I usually have dual monitors set up, I was able to paid attention to whatever I was reading or watching while RSing at the same time, and more so that most of the skill doesn't really exceed 2 minutes when you are training something (unless its a long live tree or water spot) Speaking of RC again, I was abit miffed when they move the Air Altar from the Fally spot to Varrock, since I thought the cabbage teleport was great for making the air walking a bit shorter. Not to mention that there is a musician on the way (if you decide to bank at Draynor)
  15. You're probably right. Hope to see you crafting again soon. Tonight was fun with you ;) I think its hard to enter the F2P list now with low combat level because the total average is so high, you need alot of level boost from combat skill for sure. Unless they can train all other ones to 99, but even with that, they can't stay very long since they will get bumped off as other people train.
  16. Boring is subjective. I think that skills that require you to wait for the products to be finished (looking at YOU, Crafting, Cooking, and Smithing) are boring. I actually like skills that require attention. Though that's really because I don't multitask while playing Runescape. I agree that it gives slow exp, but the profit makes up for it. And profit matters a lot to me because I'm broke and I can't merchant. Runecrafting is unique, which is one of the reasons why I like the skill. I really don't find it that bad. I'd rather afk while playing Runescape. I don't mind paying attention but after 4 months trying to get 81-88 I've had enough for 3 months or so... It gives slow exp which is one of the reasons why I make tiaras, I can't stand RC, however I make experiment with water runes with 88-90 to see how it is etc. It may equal out to the exp of mind tiaras since I cant screw up as much (trying to make tiaras fast while runes is just one click) and I'll make profit :D I don't care if I don't profit on skills for I have the money, however, I don't train skills the quickest/most expensive way, I balance the two. You definitely don't want to afk while training any skill in Runescape, no matter how insanely boring it is since its against the rule. Tbh, I don't even know how u can define afk because a person could simply read the forum and train wc at the same time or other long response skill and looks afking. To put it bluntly, there is smart and fast way for training skills, with the release of many new updates as mentioned in my previous post. The long and tedious way of training in old F2P don't really apply anymore (but it does give us a status because everyone knows F2P training generally takes longer). Because if the skill is buyable, it can be done pretty fast presume if you have enough cash from merchant and runite mining. That being said, Sonic, I think nowadays most F2P choose to train the faster way instead of slow ways, the standard of training has raised alot, and people could train alot more efficiently. While RC might seen like a time waster, but back in the days when Essence were 20gp ea and airs were 16gp ea, it does prove to be a good profit skill. Out of all the F2P I seen, I only see Mendark 9 (and some other F2P that used to walk airs, before they switch to air walkers, and that method got axed and they have to use assist, lol) training his RC the hard way, and that's walking airs ( I even screen shot him doing it). And he manage to get RC to 97 (Thats before rest and tiara xp, and no air gloves was use, a painful less than 5k xp per hour, more if you do fire). Which if you want to be really strict training skills, back in the day is certainly alot harder now compare to present (how I mourn the day I want to train cooking, had to go to Kara, buy fish, cook, and sell it again to General store, with bunch of peoples saying get off the fire you noob, lol, good times.. But then, who would want to spend alot of time doing even more repetitively stuff? Its all relative speaking of course. Speaking from personal experience, I think most F2P adapt to faster method, or even methods that do take advantage of the new updates, since training evolves. Sometimes I even wonder how I train certain skills before since it would look painfully slow to train right now. (I used to make ammies from uncuts I got from monster or other events, made about 10k different type of ammies in total, and I collect all my own materials, gold bars, runes, and "WOOL" dear god, I collected 10k wool, that means I must sheared over 10k sheeps (and even knowing member can buy wool and sell it to F2P, i still shear my own wool just for kicks sometimes)
  17. You are bound to run into people that others find unpleasant or just not easy to get along with, but with status and skill ranking like that, I am sure all the top F2P are monitored closely, especially the ones that get large amount of xp for long period of time (maybe they thought the player was botting, but indeed wasn't. I sometimes would train to a point where I don't even know who is talking to me in game since my skill allows me to take 1 to 2 minute of break before looking at it again, which I tend to read stuff or watch videos. At time like this, a lot people would assume you are botting because you are non response and doing same thing over and over again (hence grinding, but who has the free time to blurt out a comment out of blue and do a emote once in a while to break the monotony?). I have a lot of people ask me things and what my skill level is in game because they thought I might be botting, some even asked to use quick chat mode to prove that I have the skill. (That and they want you to trade), For the most part, I just simply said, refer to the high scores, or my inventory is full so "most" people would understand. Most other top F2P I run into are pretty nice, but one of which will ask questions like, how long have you been playing (you feel you lost when you play longer than the other but has less xp, but then realize that its kind of pathetic since the other guy spend more time training than you, hence very conflicting and funny conclusion) and training method, etc and etc. But I think overall, as a high lvl F2P to another, we all know the "hardship" we have to endure to get there.
  18. Doing tasks and jobs from RS citizens, jk, they don't even pay that well.................. Mostly from skill that collect raw materials and sell them on GE. Or good old monster killing, I suspect that a lot monster in RS must have some sort of Savings Account, why else would they carry so many valuables on them? (When in fact, most stuff they drop makes no sense if the monster use them in game....) On another note, opportunistic merchanting? My cousin used to collect tinderboxes as a hobby, back then I thought he was crazy, but looking at the price of them now.........
  19. To be honest, F2P has become a lot easier with introduction of major updates such as GE. Look how quickly many people got all lvl 99s after the GE introduction. It certainly beats standing in a overheated server shouting on hours on end to get the stuff you want. With pvp world introduction, I heard it was a lot easier to mine runite ores. So mining runite ores and using GE to gather and merchant stuff has made F2P even easier. (Hence fueling the whole prayer and RC skill) RS F2P has always been the same for me, and if it become more P2p like, then comparison between a F2p and P2p are almost the same. Then the P2p would start howling nonsense that they are paying for our update so on and so forth. For the most part, there is no point saying RS is a bad game after you gain so much xp in it. When you start to train all the skill to lvl 99 as a goal, prepare for a long haul in the end, I am not even really going for most efficient time training. I rather train the longer way, and savor the game because that's how I enjoy it (and not to much it disrupted my work). I remember the interview done by Novalyfe and he said how he spend tons of hours training to get P2p number one back in the days, so he train crazy for 3 years, obtain the title, and bam, quit. Made me realize that in order to stay on top in RS, u gotta keep on training, because new things keep coming out to keep the players entertained (hence you will never be number one). Besides, if you don't play RS, you will simply move on to another game, and if by strict definition, playing video games does not equate to better quality of life, and you could have earn more money, more time on studying, or volunteer in your community instead of spending time in front computer screen or game console that just give you that sense of transient pleasure. Which is not a crime for recreational purposes, some would argue that it totally depend on person's perspective, if he or she is happy, then who care, others can't say anything otherwise. But its a bit like how a WoWer always laugh at RSer, in the end, both parties are generally the same. That's just my two bits on things, and overall summary how I look at RS from a F2P POV. PS. Deep down inside, I always feel that Mendark 9 still number 1 f2p, and Franzk always first F2P to get prayer 99, lol
  20. Congrats on making the list!!!, Now just have to keep going at it to actually stay on the list, lol
  21. I think improvement on a new skill is definitely better than adding a new one, but since I am F2P, I am very eager to see what they come up with. Me and my friend been guessing at it for so many months trying to figure out what kind of skill they would introduce (Medieval based, since its the time frame Runescape based on). Of course on 2nd thought, too many intermix with modern technology as well. On a side note, I been hearing rumors that they are going to release it in July 2010? Is that a set date? Or just a speculation.
  22. Just to confirm, for the Xmas event, we get Candy Cane, Xmas Ghost Robes, and Dramatic Point Emote right? I think we also unlock 3 new music, Silent Knight, Ghost of Xmas Present, and Smorgebord? Just want to make sure not missing anything, lol.
  23. [/hide] Here is a more recent pic from when he was around 180M xp in the French F2p world. Of course this doesn't prove or disprove much, but it does show him powermining iron. Which -can- hit up to 40k/hr if you're really focused on it and have no other miners/distractions to worry about. I can't say I really power mine much either, but even at a fairly standard pace of 35k/hr for 3mil xp in a week works out to 85-86 hours or just over 12 hours a day. I myself could never powermine that much every day, however I have managed 455k in one day of powermining, before realizing it wasn't for me, and I know a few players who have done 500k in a day. I'm not saying he was or was not/has not been a member before, just saying it's possible. Maybe he just really loves mining  Ahh, that makes total sense. Thanks for clearing that up. And yeah, I can definitely see him never having gone p2p. Now I'm just curious why he got banned and then unbanned. I used to mine for up to 11 to 12 hours per day an entire week and still didn't get close to 1mil xp (granted, I was banking all my ores). But I wasn't really phased by hours, I just mine, bank, mine, chat a bit, and then mine. I can see how people could get that focused for longer period of time that would seem totally strange to other. But to spend one year of your life just mining away all the ores does seem a bit excessive. If you start at lvl 99 mining with 13mil xp, and 3 mil xp per week, for the stretch until u hit 200mil xp would required.......15.5 months of playing.....(if my math is correct). If you stretch over that for 3 years it might seem ok? But that's like one chunk of your life (1 year and 8 months spend 11 hours per day mining away). Mind you, if F2P can see their total play time, I am sure alot of us would get scared and see lots of 600 days of total play time.......lol
  24. Actually, willow was pretty good when they are 12gp each, before GE came out. That's during the time when people just dump massive amount of willows in the general store. And you can FM right beside it, I used to FM near the Rimmington Store or Lumbridge store. For now, maple probably makes more sense, and many places you can fm would be GE, or Edgeville bank (quieter). When you fm, turn off your private chat would also helps if you don't want distraction. If you are really dedicated, burning 1k log or close to per hour is very possible. I would know, since I burned about 100k willows before all the GE conveniences came out.....massive finger cramps trying to burn 1.1mil xp in one day.
  25. Oh no, another veteran F2P gone to the dark side, lol, just kidding. But I guess a lot of F2P can't stand the allure of the new quests and skills. Still for the most part, your article back in the old Tip It times (Reflection On the Past Five Years) was what inspired me to stay as a F2P. Well, most of us will stay F2P to keep that part going. As long as you enjoy the game yourself, it's all good.
