His left thumb sort of merges in with the background. Come to think of it, he doesn't really stand out from the background.. is there a way to make him stand out from the background?

No offense, but your girlfriend really isn't doing you much good, but I doubt I'd be able to do anything since you love her so much that you probably wouldn't dump her/change the relationship in any way.
