Census 2.0
C-c-c-combo breaker? :P But yeah, it's true that Women are a clear minority on TIF. We certainly don't need a poll for that.

Political Poll
Well if we think of those political maps that pop up every few months, TIF is typically leaning to the left. Oh, and if they had a candidate in my constituency, I'd vote for the Pirate Party over Labour any day :P

A girl I know on Facebook has 'From Brooklyn, New York'... She lives, and has always lived, in the same town as ME ¬_¬

Stories of missing and abused youth
Personally I do feel for a lot of these cases, but then you get ones like Madeline and it just escalates WAY too much. Personally I reckon she's got to be dead by now anyway. Bad things happen to children all the time, yes it's bad the media focus on just one or two but it's the media - what do you expect? Also another high profile case here in the UK would be Baby P. As terrible as his ordeal was, the effects have blown way out of proportion and because of the media's persistent pursuing of this case there's been huge pressure on Social Services to reform. As for Calyee... I do agree her mother was guilty.

But you save time by walking diagonally, which means by the time you get to the crosswalk I will have crossed while Mr. Proper will still be crossing. Nope. Your point is selfish and missing something. Your objective is crossing the street. Period. You shouldn't walk on the street just like cars shouldn't drive on sidewalks. According to your logic, cars should cut through parks and sidewalks because it's 'faster'. Mr. Proper can go either the Yellow or Blue route and he isn't interfering with traffic, thus NOT pissing people off - because when you diagonally cut-across the street, it's faster to reach your destination but you spend more time on the street - which every pedestrian should try to avoid to ease the flow of traffic. Yeah, you're right. I'm still going to do it though :P That's pretty... stupid? :P I only ever cross diagonally if there's no cars around. I think that if a person has the kindness to stop to let you cross (which very few drivers do) you should get across as quick as you can.

Clean Windows 7 Install
Move any documents/images/videos you want onto a pen drive or hard drive. You could copy over program files for any that you can't just re-download easily enough. A clean install completely removes all trace of the previous system - which is almost guaranteed to speed it up. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and the amount of crapware they filled it with...

Census 2.0
They're really not important enough to be pinned. In fact, once the majority of regular visitors have posted both threads will die out quickly. Yes, it's stuff nice to know, but it's hardly a reoccurring topic like relationship advice.
-
Census 2.0
Let's not turn this into an argument about Scientology. This isn't what the thread is for.

Census 2.0
Caucasian Atheistic Heterosexual... kinda boring really, that's obviously gonna be the main demographic here. As for gender & age I'd say 16-25 male would be a reasonable estimation.

UK Relocation
Some of them are, yeah. The rest of the people on Jeremy Kyle are just real losers, most of the people on the show are a bit too old to be chavs - though some still are. Well they could be dangerous when they hang out in gangs, but nothing so dramatic. Doesn't mean we don't have gangs over here - chavs just aren't usually a big part of them. They're not hardcore enough. Not_Trolling's description from UD is pretty accurate.

UK Relocation
One thing you will encounter over here are Chavs. Chavs wear tracksuits and burberry caps, they may have bikes, and they trawl around the streets (mainly in more working class areas) and hang around bus stops looking for people to harrass and things to smash. They're usually like 10-16. If you wanna find out more about chavs you can google, or watch the new film Attack the Block - awesome film by the same guy as Shaun of the Dead (classic film). For things like slang, watching TV/Film is going to be the best way to go. That and talking to Londoners. Remember that slang hugely differentiates between areas.

UK Relocation
It's true that it may not be worth Sky straight away. I do believe that there are setups now with DVRs for Freeview so you aren't limited to Sky+ for TiVo-like TV. Freesat is another method which is cheaper than Sky but has more channels than Freeview. Freeview boxes can be got for tiny amounts of money these days, far less than £100 if you get a cheap one from Tesco or ASDA. But if you want sports or movies then Sky is the one to get - they do cost more though.

UK Relocation
1. What are a few samples of common dinner assortments in the UK? What type of foods are most often consumed where you live? You can get lots of meals in the UK, especially in London. Some traditional English meals include Sunday Dinner (chicken/beef/pork/whatever with mash, yorkshire puddings, veggies), Fish & Chips (or just chip shop chips). We have lots of Pizza places, Chinese's and plenty of other fast food. 2. What is the average cost of a flat/apartment to rent a month/week/day? I'm not sure, but be aware that living in London costs a lot more than outside the capital. Of course, wages are higher, but it's just a note. 3. What are some things that stereotypical Americans should be aware of (item names, slang, etc) that are different from the United States? Crisps = Chips Chips = Fries I think Lay's Chips = Walker's Crisps Shopping Centre = Mall Secondary School = (sort of) High School (though some secondary's do call themselves high schools) University = College There are loads of these sorts of things, I don't think that many are particularly hard to pick up on since most have a similar meaning. Google can probably get you a lot more than me. 4. What are some good television shows? Personally I'm a fan of a lot of BBC shows. Us Brits have some great comedy series so you should find (however you wish to) and watch shows like The Inbetweeners, Misfits, IT Crowd. Then you have the BBC comedies which, when you come over here, you'll have access to with iPlayer - Mock The Week, QI, Have I Got News For You! Then there's the classics you'll find on channels like Gold, your Only Fools and Horses and whatnot. Reality shows are big over here but I've never been a fan - they're a dime a dozen and most of them have been exported to America so they won't be anything new. I'm not really up on drama shows, though, but I watched an episode of Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe (show making fun of TV) where he went to America and found that a lot of Americans are underwhelmed by our shows because they often have a lot less WHAM and impact, and often are more realistic. Then, we do have mundane shows which might confuse you, but many people do enjoy, like Bargain Hunt and Antiques Roadshow :P 5. What are the best internet options? Since you might be wanting to get Sky TV as well (Sky+ is our equivalent to TiVo) you could get a deal with them. But I'd always check with Money Saving Expert about utilities and internet and such (I personally use his website for everything, it's hella useful for saving money). 6. How expensive is it to travel on a daily basis? If you're close to the city you'd probably use public transport. I don't know about costs but getting a season or monthly ticket for your regular journey could save you some money. Petrol (gas) prices are constantly going up, so it might be expensive to run a car in London.

Cars 2 - Pixars first flop?
I'm pretty sure they couldn't pull off a 4th. Trilogies work - I doubt they'd do a 4th.

Cars 2 - Pixars first flop?
toy story 3 was another money grab. people act like pixar is in it to make art or something. Nah, Toy Story 3 didn't feel like a money grab. Just a satisfying finish for those who grew up watching the films. It definitely didn't feel like a money grab, and even if it is - it was one I can certainly forgive them for. Toy Story 3 was amazing. And I don't see why Pixar really would need to money grab with the sort of money they rake in and I do actually buy into the idea they're in it for the art. Maybe I'm being a bit naiive, but I like to think so.

Cars 2 - Pixars first flop?
If this is being interpreted as a cash grab (makes me unsure they'd really need one after Toy Story 3), I hold out the hope that it's to give Monster's Inc 2 more funding. They managed to do a good thing with Toy Story 2 & 3, can they do the same for Monster's Inc? One of their best films?

Manga/Anime Discussion
No idea. I knew it was being dubbed but I didn't keep up with the news - not like I'm gonna rewatch it after watching the sub. It was a good series but not *that* good.

The Simpsons
No. I'll stick to my Channel 4 re-runs tyvm <3

Cars 2 - Pixars first flop?
It's not out for another month yet over here - 22nd July. Frankly, Pixar can afford a flop. They've been walking on water for so long, it was only a matter of time. I think with Cars being one of the weaker films (personally I find Ratatouille to be the weakest), a sequel might have been a bit risky. I fully expect for it to be a great film though - but it's not like they're going to be able to top their latest releases of Toy Story 3, Up and Wall-E.

Moderator Trainee Recruitment Drive 2011 - CLOSED
Once again, it's not a be all and end all - but it is useful as a general background. Age does matter. It's as simple as that. For example, from time to time moderators have to deal with removing pornography - we aren't going to make a ten year old a moderator precisely because of something like that. The problem is that it shouldn't be used as a general background. It doesn't provide nearly enough information, and the information it does describe is often warped and doesn't display the full picture. I don't understand how you can see with using Runescape stats as a way of measuring a player's activity and then, via that, measuring whether they will be a good moderator or not as an effective way of deciding who becomes a moderator, if you're going down that route, you might as well enforce stat requirements to become a moderator. If age does matter because of issues like pornography, why don't you just have an age requirement? If you're never going to make a ten year old a moderator for precisely that reason, I can't see any reason not to have a blanket requirement for all moderators, age-wise. Is it really such a thing to ask? Asking for your RSN on a RuneScape forum seems pretty legit to me. I've never been one with high stats, even lower when I joined, it's not ABOUT the stats. We simply want to know it because if we're looking for mods for say, Help & Advice, someone with high stats is who we might consider. Off Topic mods won't need ANY stats. Someone's participation in the game the forum is about is something we *should* consider. And as for age, we don't want to be strict about it. It's not like the life of a mod is spent dealing with pornography, it's simply a very basic measure of maturity and life experience. An older person is bound to have more experience in life, dealing with issues, collaboration... ect, but that doesn't mean a younger person, who WOULD be a good mod, should be disqualified like that.
