  1. You might also want to check for updates for Firefox and your addons, quite often patches/updates fix problems such as these.
  2. To answer the monitor question, no they don't have to be the same model. I am using a 22" widescreen and a 19" normal monitor with 2 different resolutions.
  3. What is your budget? That should help us narrow it down. And what outputs do you need? (Are your monitors DVI or VGA?)
  4. BTW, I'll admit that there is a small chance you could bump into some built-in maximum in Windows that won't let these settings work to their full potential... That is, if what I heard about some kind of TCP/IP connection limit is true... What I do know is that these settings work better than the defaults, so I've stuck with them, and been happy. : I wish you well with the usage of them, and I look forward to hearing back on what the tests have to say. ~D. V. "I'm browsing like lightning here!" Devnull I made those changes and my browser is a LOT faster than it was before. Everything loads noticeably faster. Thanks \
  5. Ah another ATR fan! Good to know that i'm not the only one here. Overcome was probably the best release imo. Trivium seems to be going down hill, they need to get back to the way they used to sound. Shogun was a decent album at best. And GNR will never be "great" again
  6. Ya clearing the CMOS won't fix graphics issues unless your sister was secretly overclocking the computer via the BIOs, which is unlikely. I'm with Joe, pop in or pull out (depending on the situation) your graphics card to check the graphics card/integrated graphics. Also for future reference, HDD are probably one of the easiest things to change in a computer. Simply unplug it, unscrew it/unlock the tool less tabs, and slide it out. Reverse that process for install
  7. Do you use Express or Custom when updating? You should always use Custom and not do Hardware updates because in my experience they crash computers more often than they help. Assuming the error has something to do with the update you received (which it sounds like it does), simply boot into safe mode and uninstall the update. That might fix the issue. Also check the manufacturer's website on alerts for your specific computer. Lots of manufacturers post alerts if certain models are incompatible with certain updates (Vista SP1 is notorious for breaking computers for example, so lots of manufacturers say to not install it on certain models)
  8. From personal experience, I would stay away from Acer. Their tech support is close to non existent and the restore cd's that came with the computer were missing a critical file straight out of the box. The brands I have had luck with were HP and Dell. We maintain ~200 HP's at school and generally the only problem is user error.
  9. I believe it will be nuclear war. But not the typical "bah you annoy me Russia, I nuke you!!1shift!". I think that a misfired nuke will start a chain reaction of countries retaliating and then we enter a nuclear winter. The misfired nuke will probably be from Russia due to the usual them not maintaining and protecting their military resources, and the first to shoot back will be America #-o
  10. But then you would just be moved to another home (jail) waiting for extermination (lethal injection) :wall: Call an exterminator and if the problem continues contact some authority. That or, as previously said, sabotage them in some way. I personally would pour water around the doors during the night when it's gonna be real cold. That's quite an enjoyable one to watch.
  11. If he forgot it's on there, then he probably doesn't really care anymore. In which case he probably wouldn't notice
  12. Umm...Maybe cut down the treeline? Either that or get a different internet connection.
  13. I have a Pentium D 830 in this PC and it runs HOT at 3Ghz (With Zalman 9500 and great airflow). You also might not be able to OC due to it being a prebuilt, since its normally built into the BIOs I'd check to see if the motherboard is compatible for a Core 2 Duo
  14. It's sad, but it's a part of our society. Anyone can do pretty much anything on the internet nowadays. It is only a matter of time before this starts happening more and more  . Blame society, punish trolls that egg on people to do this stuff.
  15. Yes the guns get used fairly often. Tons of people around me have not only hunting rifles, but handguns for self defense. People DON'T wave there guns around here either, because its a sure fire way to loose your permit and get a night in jail. And people don't wave their guns around "over there" because it will get you arrested, and if your a criminal that kinda throws a wrench in your plans. Trust me, they are out there. And the whole using a club thing was a joke, calm your jets people =D> Another point is that there's a lot of farmland and forests around me, and for some people the closest police officer is 15+ minutes. By the time the cops get there the perp is long gone and you might not be able to give a description if he is wearing a mask. The whole thing for me boils down to common sense, some people have it some don't. Same goes for guns, some need them but some don't (and some that do own them shouldn't due to lack of common sense). A ban would screw the people that really do need them.
  16. Go ahead and ban guns, I still won't give my guns to the government. None are registered and none will ever be registered. The guns that are in my household are guns that have been passed down by my family and hold great sentimental value. You can pry them from my cold, dead fingers. In the area of the country I live in (middle of nowhere Missouri) guns are a family activity. Hunting is VERY popular and I can guarantee that 99% of the people I know own some type of gun. And guess what, the cops aren't everywhere. When someone breaks into your house or threatens you, you can't say "hold on, ima call 911!!"... And banning guns wouldn't stop anything, criminals would still be able to get them. The whole idea of disarming the public baffles me, seeing as how you're just taking a means of self protection away while NOT removing the threat. Guns are just a means to an end, without them we would still be swinging clubs at each others heads #-o . ~ The rants of a gun slinging country boy
  17. Wow just noticed that... Overkill much? :ohnoes: You'll have to post back on how well modular connectors work, I've always wanted a PSU with one but didn't want to fork out the $$ for a PSU with em. I personally have an Ultra PSU and love it, and 2 gigs of OCZ RAM. Neither have ever given me trouble (through 4 dead mobos, avoid EVGAs old mobos at ALL costs :wall: )
  18. You can use non SLI RAM and PSU just fine. But for the PSU, being SLI certified is a guarantee that it can provide enough power to run an SLI setup. And some lower price non-SLI PSUs might not come with the necessary connectors (my GPU uses a 6pin molex, but some power supplies only have 1 or none at all) Basically, don't skimp on your PSU. It will come back to bite you if you get a cheap one (speaking from experience)
  19. You will need a new motherboard when upgrading anyways... Because both Amd/Intel will launch new cpu's during the next year. Socket 775 will stopped being produced next autumn (since Intel will have launched their new mainstream cpu's then)... And AMD will introduce the new AM3 socket. And to be honest, you won't need 8gb. You need it for heavy programs (cad.. etc) or if you have a [cabbage] of different programs running at the same time. But it's up to you. 4gb will go a long way. And DDR2 will slowly make way for DDR3. I'll second the fact you won't need 8 gigs of RAM. Its really overkill. I help maintain computers for a CAD class and they run on 4 gigs flawlessly. You'll see the most bang for your buck ~2 gigs, but past that the performance increases is very minimal for general computing.
  20. :? When I look at device manager all these things are not installed Ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, network controller, pci modem, sm bus controller, video controller (vga compatible) Do those have an effect? :? :wall: Yes, you need to install the drivers for them all. Get your drivers disks and install them, alternatively you could use another PC/Laptop to download them off the NET. Without the network drivers you will not get network (That should be obvious). Without video drivers you will get video, but it will not be optimised and games etc will run really slow or not at all. Without sound drivers your PC will be silent. Do you see a pattern here :) I would recommend downloading them as the drivers on the disks can be outdated. The newer ones might be optimized, fix a security loophole, or even random crashes
  21. That's against the rules: http://www.runescape.com/kbase/viewarti ... le_id=2396 I'm sorry but you don't get it. You want the pop up to go away but you don't want to block it. If you want it to go away you will block it. Jagex can't do anything if you block it. It is your PC not jagex. I doubt we are supposed to encourage rule breaking on these forums, but ya at least get mozilla if you don't already have. And as far as the adds being in another tab...thats good because they won't lag you if they aren't on the screen(usually, except when it initially d/l the ad)
  22. Monitors NEVER open a monitor. You will most likely void your warranty for nothing seeing as theres nothing you can really do to fix a dead monitor. Just like most PSU's and TV's, they have capacitors that can store quite a big charge. At the very least it will knock you on your [wagon] (I've seen a capacitor melt the tip of a screwdriver, think about your finger touching it  ) And as a general rule for all computers, if you don't know what will happen...Dont do it
  23. Don't forget to install the NIC drivers and configure your computer to receive an IP from your router (if that is your setup)
  24. That's good to hear, maybe now Linux continue on its road to world domination =D> With Ubuntu leading the charge looking at this poll created this morning on engadget it'll be awhile before we see that happening, but who knows linux is the number one operating system in Mexico so they already have a start.. Ya Linux is very popular in third world countries where computers are scarce and what computers they have are old. Linux is the #1 solution (imo) for them since obviously no Mac and Windows can have issues on older hardware due to req specs. Then there are Linux distributions that can run on just about anything. And we can only hope that a company will step up with Linux, making it easy to install and easy to configure.
