Tip.it Times - 12th December 2010
On the first article: I understand that it's a standard framework and it can get quite predictable, but that's because it just basically follows the rules of Dramatic Structure. I mean, put the boss fight at the beginning, the puzzles in the middle, and all the talking at the end and usually the payout seems quite minimal (As our character expressed in One Small Favor, which never seemed to pay off). I really don't mind the structure; I quest for the characters and the story and since they're focusing on those more with recent quests I have nothing to complain about.

whats the xp thing calculate at top right?
This, many people use it during pvp or td's to see how much damage they've done to plan out their next move faster.

CB training p2p
The high-priced drops don't really start coming into play until ~70, and the higher the better it gets. Don't get discouraged though, most assignments drop herbs, seeds, charms, and gems and it's still 100-200k per task (Obviously this can vary) at around 40-50 (That shouldn't take long at all).

85-99 defence
For general training purposes, yes dfs is a piece of crap since there's no monster worth powertraining on that requires a dfs. It's good for some bosses if you don't have an ely/divine, but I doubt he's going to get 85-99 def doing that.

Damage Update Question
I would agree that we won't really know, however in the BTS JaGeX said, "NPCs and boss monsters can deal with this issue because their life points can reach far beyond 990, but players' life points cannot," so I doubt this update will apply to them.

85-99 defence
Responses bolded. Note that this is a tanking setup, you'd probably be better praying piety at someplace like ape atoll or armored zombies than just tanking them. Also I'd get 90 att/str so the exp comes faster for def; I'd also recommend slayer instead of just straight melee training, but that's your prerogative. EDIT: Apparently on another thread you say you have bandos, why the hell would you use rune pl8 and dragon legs over bandos?

Chaotic Rapier vs Longsword
Based on what friends have told me, wouldn't the CLS be better in any PvP situation? This could change with the armor soaking update, if it's significant then faster and lower hits will be more effective than slow and large hits. Either way you'll get more uses out of rapier in general even if it's not the best in safe pvp, if that's your priority then get cmaul.

Dungeoneering Rewards
I'd get the the scroll of life and scroll of cleansing (Unless you're stopping at 92) before CLS, but if it's out of the 2 you listed go for the CLS.

Bandos Solo
1. You're gonna get torn a new one with that mage level, 80-85 is a lot better so the mage minion won't kill you. 2. You're gonna get crashed so fast it'll make your head spin, you'll have no way of beating out people. 3. Team GWD is pretty trash money nowadays, I'd find something more productive to do.

A new Era of Deflation?
- Can't argue with the first part (well the decreased "value" and the increased value of the products .. is actually the same, but at the moment .. that just irrelevant arguing) - If only one (few) markets are affected the value of the money is the same within the other markets and in general this would not cause visible inflation (at rates .. higher than 0.5%?) so it can't be called inflation. WHEN the affected marked affects the other markets as well and increases the price of the other products and goods then you have inflation since the value of the money is decreased in ... general/the whole economy (I can't find the words in .. english =/). That's what I've been saying :P

A new Era of Deflation?
All I was trying to say was that boss hunting won't majorly decrease inflation as a whole because the money is still in the game; price increases or decreases for that item are of course possible based on supply and demand. Agreed, though I'm not so sure there are "core" items like oil in the game that factor into almost every aspect of rs. In economics, inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time. When the general price level rises, each unit of currency buys fewer goods and services. Consequently, inflation also reflects an erosion in the purchasing power of money – a loss of real value in the internal medium of exchange and unit of account in the economy. A chief measure of price inflation is the inflation rate, the annualized percentage change in a general price index (normally the Consumer Price Index) over time. So yes, by increasing the price of all items inflation is occurring, since that means that the purchasing power of the money has decreased. And I do think inflation in certain markets is possible, it just depends on the extent to which it would affect the others (ie oil increase would cause a general price increase, but an increase in gold might not).

A new Era of Deflation?
Actually M*V=P*Q ... or in other words if the money stays the same, but the quantity of the products increases there will be deflation (M=const, and Q ^, then P falls, and the money will become more valuable). If the mass of the money stays the same and there is decrease of the quantity of the products the price will raise and there will be inflation. We are talking about a mass increase/decrease of productS, since .. the change in only 1 product has to be .. really massive to have any visible effect TL;DR - the quantity of items has effect on inflation. I do understand that, my point was that once an item is purchased the money does not simply go away; I also stated that items come in and leave the game, they don't continually build up. We are also talking about a very limited number of objects, not the vast majority of them. I suppose if we limited the debate to inflation in certain markets this would make sense... @MstrMonopoly, sorry I probably overestimated what you were saying the impact of less bossing would be, but I still stand by my position that it's effect is insignificant compared to GP in/out.

A new Era of Deflation?
Then you're missing the point of GP in/GP out. I'm assuming that these items in this fictional rs economy are obtained via player interaction, not NPC trading. When you say GP left you mean GP left per person, but that doesn't matter in terms of inflation as much as you'd think. As long as the money remains in the game, and is not destroyed somehow the items will have no effect on inflation.

A new Era of Deflation?
More items with high value = overal deflation. The money has got to come from somewhere, right? Also, Emerson says that DG puts people away from doing money generating activities, but I can say just about the same of item generating activities (monsterhunting). (ie: more people dg, less people do GWD => prices go up) You're confusing inflation with a few items increasing in value. If items come out that are high value that does not necessarily mean deflation will occur unless money is taken out of the game via NPC trading, if it's just player-player trading then no deflation will occur. Also the increase of GWD armor price would have to do with the supply curve shifting to the left, nothing to do with inflation. ECONOMICS :-o Uhm, if there is a set amount of money, an increase in items (addition of high end high value items) would mean each item must cost less. (on average) I know, the most important thing to look at is the GP in/GP out balance, but I do think items from monster hunting can have an effect. That's true if there's a set amount of money and if the amount of items never decreases, but neither of those cases are true in runescape. And yes monster hunting has an effect on the prices of items, but it does not generate nor destroy pure gp so it doesn't counter or perpetuate the inflation (Unless it's alched or something). That's nonsense, of course there's a difference. As aforementioned, I'll take an example of a painting. Lets say it was worth $3000 in 1800. But now, it's worth $3,000,000. Does that accurately measure inflation? Did prices of all commodities 300,000%? No. Of course you could argue that that's only a specific example but the logic still stands. There's a difference between price rise and money devaluation. I don't appreciate your spam. I already stated that your opinion is wrong, so stop. What you did was misunderstand what bladewing is saying, and I agree with him. Your example only looked at the price rise of ONE item, bladewing talked about the general price of many items increasing. And yes, per the definition of inflation: In economics, inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time. When the general price level rises, each unit of currency buys fewer goods and services. Consequently, inflation also reflects an erosion in the purchasing power of money – a loss of real value in the internal medium of exchange and unit of account in the economy. - A new Era of Deflation?
Removing the GE completely would be a mistake, I mentioned it only to considering hypothetically why manipulation is an issue. How about if the GE just updated more often in price? 1 person at the Jagex staff that may or may not know a lot about the game's economy is changing prices on a specific amount of items per 23-24 hours, based on some formulae I assume, about supply and demand of said items. That will never compare to an open market. And, if the margins are increased more, even more manipulation is imminent, as well as the risk of cash transferring from account to account. Lose-lose situation. The ge updates automatically based on how many of the item are bought at over/under regular price and by how much. There's not enough price varience to derive supply and demand, especially for the thousands of items that'd have to be changed daily. If it's automated, then: 1) I've been lied to - Jagex said they hired more staff for this... guess not? 2) That makes manipulation that much easier 1. I doubt you were lied to, you probably just misunderstood. They might have hired more staff to help develop the system and formulas, but I can guarantee you that it would be a terrible business decision to hire people to derive something that can be discovered automatically. 2.Yes it does, but it also makes merching in general easier too which can both help and hurt the rs population.- A new Era of Deflation?

if you can't afford a BSS you shouldn't even consider using chaotic weaponry. 1 chaotic weapon for ~10 hrs = 2M you DON't get back 1 BSS for forever = 3M you can always get back I think he meant spirit shields like Ely/Divine/Arcane, not just the BSS.- A new Era of Deflation?
Manipulation doesn't cause inflation, but it amplifies it, and the item rises in price much more quickly. that is NOT inflation Exactly. Inflation is what happened to whips (and many other items) when they rose from a stable 1m to the now stable 3m~, because of the influx of cash. They're right, inflation roughly means the devaluing of money (Or general increase in the price of most goods) over time; you're just talking about general price increases of specific items which can be from inflation, increase in demand, decrease in supply, etc.- Okay Efficiency Police..have a q about Herb
Making super attacks, which you can use for ext attacks later, is a generally good way to train but I wouldn't do the pots if they are high gp/exp to make.- Hacked
And you might want to keep an eye on your computer, or know who's using it and for what; because it might not be the sites that you visit that got it infected with a keylogger.- Shadow Silk Hood
With a whip at level 70 attack you get an item with X stats, and as you progress in attack levels you eventually gain access to the CR, which has X+1 stats which in turn make it the better item. Looking at the SSH and what many people would bind in its place, a Primal Plate, at a lower defence level you gain access to the SSH with mediocre defence stats and as you progress through defence levels you gain access to the Primal Plate, which has much better stats than the SSH. The only difference being that Jagex applied a special effect to the SSH meaning players preffer it to the Primal Plate. Outside of Dungeonheim we can find examples of this like the Staff of Light and the Chaotic Staff. The SoL, much like the SSH is available at lower levels and as such has lower bonus' than the Chaotic Staff, but, because of the special rune saving effect Jagex added to the SoL, players preffer it to the Chaotic Staff even if this means losing out on some stats. Take away the rune saving effect and you'll find that players will switch to the CS as it is the next best thing, and the same would happen with the SSH if you took away it's cloaking ability, players would switch to the next best thing which would be the Primal Plate. All this would achieve is someone deciding that the new best item, the Primal Plate, needs nerfing and then players would switch to the next best item on the ladder... And so on and so on... You seem to be implying that the SSH and Primal Plate are similar items when in fact they are not. The SSH is not considered a step down from Primal Plate with an extra ability that puts it over the top, the ability is the ONLY thing that distinguishes it and keeps it above Primal in terms of usefulness. I do agree, though, that no matter what you nerf there will always be the standard "next best thing" that everyone will use; in this game there are very few ambiguous best setups.- Fight Caves Melee.
I believe they come out at half health, and note that last I heard there was a glitch that if you're doing this on task you won't get the bonus slayer points if you kill him with a claw spec. A backup plan is to have a whip/rapier in for another hit, and hopefully he won't kill you; Veng can help weaken him too. - A new Era of Deflation?
