Oh please. Bringing economics into these debates are pointless. Firstly - What's to stop a skiller from doing other, more profitable activities, but skilling? Choice. It is the player's choice in which to deliberately limit themselves on RuneScape, and it is only the player to blame. Secondly - Saying that raw materials would skyrocket is illogical. There are more factors than simply supply and demand. If raw materials suddenly become, say, 3 times more profitable as a result of lowered supply, then people would start joining the bandwagon of gathering these raw materials and the price goes down again. Thirdly - Were skilling ever 'ought to be' profitable? For I propose a solution: Rework the entire skilling system, so that skilling is worth doing, instead of leaving a computer on to do so. Hmm, my post does seem offtopic. On Topic: For what ground can JaGex successfully sue botting companies, other than 'copyright infringement' which can be quite easily avoided in the first place?

This thread again. Jmods have already confirmed that the drop rates for charms of Hellhounds and Rocklobsters have 'gone walkies' and is going to be fixed by the next game update.

Wow, this thread again. Botters are a problem. I acknowledge that. Suing them? You need to find a ground to sue them for, simply being the game rules is insufficient. I guess you could argue that it's the 'property' of JaGex, but I'm not sure how JaGex would argue that botting is indeed infringing JaGex's rights/whatever else you could come up with. What jagex ought to be doing is: Remove the incentive to RWT/Bot/Phish. The skills system itself is flawed, with many skills (Mining, Agility, Wc, Firemaking, Fletching) being click and wait. Free trade is unnecessary and only adds to the problem (more incentive to phish/bot), when there *are* alternatives that players will continually neglect. And the password recovery system is also flawed. As Makoto has pointed out, the first post of this thread has conflated. Not quite sure where I'm going with this, I don't even know what's the point of this thread. I'll wait for a reply I guess

Wow, there's so many stupid arguments about. About enjoying the benefits of bots and endorsing it: Just because you enjoy the result of bots being around, it doesn't mean you endorse botting to happen. The end result, may well come from alternative sources (i.e. Fix the skilling/combat system itself) and that would still satisfy the players who enjoyed the benefits of having bots around. Exploiting bots is a victim-less 'crime', so it's not exactly unethical to do so either. About suing JaGex because you can 'sue anyone': As someone else pointed out, you can't sue JaGex under US law. It seems like I'm arguing on a tangent, I'd edit and reply when I wake up

If you have good enough evidence, could always take it to the courts about negligence and failure to comply with the duty of care or something similar (about the school and the teachers for ignoring the situation)

Only skimmed through the third article so far. I felt it was a little slow in attempting to explain the statistical side of things. EDIT - Read through the second article; Ah, good old nostalgia. I completely agree - Playing RuneScape has actually taught me life lessons that I was going to be unlikely to learn had I not played RuneScape at all. Fast and accurate typing ability, word comprehension, 'trust', self reflection, etc. I wouldn't say the time I was a noob were the golden years of RuneScape, but I would say it was *my* golden year of RuneScape. I agree someone with your post, however, I've just skimmed through it. Talking about inappropriate things in the RuneScape chat is always a dangerous ground to be in, since most of the time, people have actually broken a rule when they get muted. I do agree that to mention the word 'girlfriend' isn't exactly solicitation though. Most of the time, when I see mute evidences, I typically see an angry player getting muted for something they deserved (censor evasion, random cussing, etc). It is quite rare that JaGex mutes you for something that's unnecessary, but it does happen. Hell, I've got muted for saying something with asterisks, but JaGex was smart enough to let my appeal accept. Typically, what JaGex fails to do is to take into account the context and irony/sarcasm. Yes, it's true that irony/sarcasm is harder to detect on the internet, but to be punished for something that had no intention to offend is a little harsh from my perspective. The RuneScape muting system is definitely not automated according to my personal experiences. However, there are a lot of people who are happy to report you for a minor slipup in wording, taking things out of context, for example "Going to kill black babies" when referring to baby black dragons in the Chaos tunnels. To call people pathetic for reporting someone for actually breaking the rules is a little silly to me. What's wrong with reporting someone if they're actually breaking RuneScape rules, for example: Scamming or Botting? It prevents rule breakers from continuing to break the rules, and keeps RuneScape a little safer for the community (depends on the rule). I'm sort of ranting/arguing on a tangent now, I'll just leave this here.

Learning the hard way, is learning the best way, from what I gather. Free Trade brought back the ills of RuneScape too. Scammers, phishers, hackers, botters, rwters, you name it. Doubling money is almost always a scam, and those who are legitimate are only trying to lure you into trusting them with your bank. It's not very hard to dodge scammers though...
